Hello house,
I wrote a while back about how my visa interview in February went.
I left Lagos around 11:25pm on Monday, March 5 aboard BA at 35 weeks. A copy of Fit to fly from my Doctor was collected.

Lagos to London was a full flight and was smooth, i didn't get enough leg space, food was good and entertainment was ok. We arrived Heathrow around 4:55am London time. The waka to our boarding terminal long well well. After every every, i found a place to lay down to wait for my next flight which was for 9:55am.

London to Miami was about 9hrs50mins, the flight was so scanty and we all had an entire row to ourselves, food was good too. One hostess gave me plenty snacks and water to hold while waiting for my connecting flight.

We got to Miami around 2 pm and proceeded to the immigration queue. I think it was only our flight that arrived at the time so the queue was short and moved fast.
CBP: hello, can i have your passport?
Me: hello
CBP: how long are you here for?
Me: 11 weeks
Then he stamped me in and returned my passport

Me: im here for child birth o
CBP: ok

I couldn't find the page he stamped so i asked him how many months he stamped me in for and he said 6 months.
I proceeded to claim my luggage and the duffel bag i kept my foodstuff was a mess, my yam flour had poured all over and my bag was white so i was stopped by an officer from agric. The officer i met at agric is a talkative, he sha talked about how his Cuban grandparents were cheated by USA blah blah blah. He checked my luggage and counted the $5,600 i had on me. Nothing was seized and he helped me make good of my messy bag. That was how i left to wait for my connecting flight to Houston on American Airlines.

Miami to Houston was 3hrs+, flight was super windy and we got there 9pm Houston time on tuesday 6th march. I was super tired and waited for my host.

I used Dr Xydas and HNWMC and gave birth on 24th april. Breakdown of my expenses:

Dr Xydas: 2000
HNWMC: 2000
Pathology: 97 (for baby and i)
Epidural: 650
Paed: 728
Follow-up paed: 250 (used Texas Children paediatrics)

BC was delivered about 2 weeks after birth,i paid $75 for next day delivery. SSN got in via mail. I didn't get a near date for DH's appointment to notarize at the embassy so when i got the document the same week (monday)we were to return, i pleaded at the Houston passport office to get LO's passport the same day (Tuesday) which was granted. I applied for VOA on Wednesday and i got it the next day.

I added baby's ticket on BA with $423 and paid at the airport. Cash wasnt accepted.

Left Houston to London 4pm on sunday 27th may, i was mad when i discovered i didn't get baby bassinet, i complained and they said i didn't book early enough as we had many nursing mothers on-board. Fortunately for me, the seat next to me was empty. Food wasn't so great. Got to London around 5am and left for Lagos around 9:55am. Got a bassinet seat this time around but my baby didnt really use it, i carried him for most part of the journey.

Got to Lagos past 6 and went to the VOA office, they didn't want to take cash but they did after a while. My son was stamped in for a month.
And that was how the journey ended.

To the people who helped me when i needed help: brooklyn20, zinny, and Ramj. Thank you so much, favour shall locate you at every point of need.

To the friends i made here Dollarsolution and MadameW, thank you for the chats and everything even if we never met in person. Lines will always fall unto pleasant places for us.

To all Nairalanders, i love you all

10 days inclusive of weekends. But if you are really in a hurry, you can discuss with the representative that will bring the form that is if you havent given birth yet.
I think its possible to expedite it immediately after you have your child.
I intended to pick up before but when i calculated my uber money i decided to do next day delivery which costs $75. $30 delivery takes about 4 weeks or so.
So i think you can get it earlier if you indicate the option of expedited BC right from the hospital.

As for me it was after 10 days i requested for a next day delivery of the birth certificate via their website. The website is at the back of the copy of the BC form given to you at the hospital. Its $75 and will require you to book with a credit card and the scanned copy of your passport data page.

superdoll:
Oh ! I learnt it takes atlleast 2 weeks for it to be ready. And i read @chinemeze17 post where she said she used expedited service for $75 and recieved it same day. She has not been replying though.
Please @chinemeze17 if are reading this kindly shed more light

Thank you

all the lab tests are covered in your doctor's fee at Dr Xydas' office

2. For those that used Dr Xydas/HNWMC, do I need to do labs here or are they covered in the fee paid? As much as possible I don't want to incur additional cost in the US on labs.

Thanks a mill for your response.[/quote]

Good day all,
It may sound cliche that this thread is a lifesaver....i was introduced here on NL by a friend some months ago and its been bliss. I did a lot of reading here.

I went for my first interview ever on Thursday, 8th of this month (yesterday) at 7:45am in Lagos.
After many many, i was brought forward by the woman organising the queues because of my belly.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning with a smile

VO: where are you going to in the us?
Me: houston, Texas

VO: why are you going there?
Me: to have our first child

VO: do you have a doctor
Me: yes. I have contacted dr N, would you like to see the correspondence?
VO: yes please. I gave it to her

VO: what do you do?
Me: i own ....... an interior design and gift packaging company

VO: do you have any staff and how many?
Me: yes. 3 (i quickly included that my DH is sponsoring me as the income that i filled in the form is very low)

VO: what does your DH do?
Me: hes a registered arc and he co-owns a blah blah company. He gave me an introduction letter, would you like to see it?
VO: yes please ( i gave it to her and she read it)

VO: whats the name of your DH company?
Me: told her. I have his company docs here, would you like to see them, she said no

VO: how many years has he been working?
Me: 5

VO: have you ever travelled out of the country before?
Me: No ma'am

VO: why the US?
Me: US offers my child the bonus of dual citizenship with a better medical care

VO: where will you be staying?
Me: intown suites. I have made a booking, would you like to see it? (She said no)

VO: whats this trip going to cost you?
Me: 14k, i have my budget sheet here, would you like to see it? Hands it over to her

VO: lets see if you can afford this?
Me: i passed my DH statement of account to her. (She flipped through like 4 pages)
VO: is this your DH only account?
Me: no ma'am but this is for his savings and he has more than enough to cover for the trip. She then said ok

VO: how many weeks do you intend to spend there?
Me: 8 weeks

VO: do you have friends and family there?
Me: no. I dont

VO: is your DH going with you?
Me: no because of work. However, if his workload reduces, he will come and witness the birth of our first child and assist me bring the child home

VO: tell me about your DH current project
Me: i told her until she nodded and said thats ok

She started to gather all my docs together and i knew it was the moment of truth

VO: since you are going for childbirth, i would advise you to keep these docs cos you will need them at POE
Me: i knew it was a done deal and told her yes ma'am

She then brought out the white paper and circled the address and was trying to explain some things i didnt hear
She smiled for the first time and said 'Goodluck on your childbirth and have a nice day'
I smiled back and said thank you ma

As i said earlier, i had read almost all the visa interviews on these threads that i knew all the likely questions and had rehearsed my answers (which were through anyway). So, i was not tensed, i was unsually composed. Though before i was brought forward, i saw one elderly VO smiling a lot but when i got closer i saw she denied a lot of people. My VO was in Window 6 and she had this straight emotionless face. There was this other male VO rejecting everyone and sipping his cup of coffee as blue papers were flying right, left and center from him.
I just prayed for favour, i had all my documents and i knew i wasnt committing any offence. Though i was just sceptical being a first timer.
You guys should also notice how i was literally forcing all my docs down her throat. I spent between 10-15mins with her as she went through all my docs one after the other twice.

Thank you NL.

In this light, please who knows about any cheap TICKET to Houston first week in March, abeg help a sister.
