Wonderful! From which language does the word 'aikebulan' originate? |
Is it the good animal called assss or good buttocks? [don't mind the censors] @ Etairus, I feel u. |
Divine inspiration? So what does it mean: good animal called ass or good buttocks? |
Thanks all. @Adrenalin, does it mean you easily pick a quarrel with someone? @mama-gee, mama is obvious, what is 'gee'? @donjon, I still don't get the meaning. |
Thanks pal, now your ID makes a lot of sense. |
Thanks for your contributions: we are all entitled to our opinions! |
Nairalanders, how did you get the user IDs that you use on Nairaland? I'll set the ball rolling: Abojupupa is mine. Got it from the fact that I'm fair and it means 'One with a light face.' What's yours? |
1. Oju mewaa ko jo oju eni. 2. Ai rin jinna ni a ko ri ebuke okere. 3. ile laa wo ka to so omo loruko. |
And when you've used all these methods and caught your man, let's have a feedback o. You hear? |
@OutlukBabe (f), Nature has made every living thing polygamous. The agama lizard lives in its own colony with a number of lizards. So does a cockerel. Humans tend to be pretentious. After going through matrimonial vows in courts and in churches, many people look out for other people and bear children out of wedlock. Why do we deceive one another in the name of civilization? |
No. The guy won't marry them at the same time. Rather he will marry them one after the other. In addition, he will put them in different districts or towns such that each wife lives independently of the other wife. And yes, the women must be aware that other wives exist and they can go visiting, spending week-ends with their fellow wives and returning to their own houses. This way, it reduces rancour. |
@ ada_beke I take your word for it . My suggestions in solving this problem are the following: 1. I guess the matter can be handled by individual students. For instance a student should not go alone to a lecturer's office, especially in cases where assignments have to be submitted. 2. Students should try their best in their courses (there should be no fear of failure once they have prepared adequately for tests/exams). so they can confidently challenge low grades/failures politely. Alternatively, they should take their failures in good faith, not going around begging for marks. 3. If a lecturer persistently harasses a student, the latter should try and get them on tape and use the evidence against the lecturer. 4. The student can be more religious (wearing muslims' hijab or dressing like a Scripture Union member); looks like this class is hardly harassed. |
The ladies are as guilty as the Lecturers/professors. Some deliberately go to the lecturers just to be noticed. Imagine a female student asking if she could follow her lecturer for lunch! Some go to the lecturer's office to GREET him; especially if he teaches a compilsory course! Yet some want to associate with lecturers considered to be influential, so that they could get some sort of protection. @ada_beke I am not aware of female lecturers/professors asking out their male students; can you shed more light on this? |
OK; Provided the guy is intelligent, strong and relatively rich; and the ladies are accommodating/tolerant of each other's weaknesses and less possessive. It may reduce the number of unmarried ladies as well as the rate of infidelity/promiscuity in the country |
Ever read The Plague' by Abert Camus? Made the most uninteresting reading so far. |
Hi Nairaland. We don't pray for bad things; but they dohappen. What is the best attitude if armed robbers come visiting in yor house or office/ |
O ga o. O dabi pe awon ladies nikan ni won ti master mixture English ati Yoruba. I even learnt from friends that ladies don't encourage guys to speak yoruba or a mixture to them. |
What beats me is that without being taught, speakers know whether an expression is correct or wrong; they do not just mix the two languages anyhow. Compare the two statements below: 1. MI O LIKE BI FRIEND E SE TREAT MI LANA 2. I KO FERAN HOW ORE YOU SE ME YESTERDAY Many people will agree that the first sentence is acceptab;le but the second is not. |
@moyola, you said this is a strategy when you don't want others to understand what you are saying. are there other reasons why people use it? @ ayomiful; it looks like people just want to show off with the language, not that they cannot speak only yoruba. Or can we all try and 'speak' yoruba on this thread? |
Yoruglish? What is it? E gba mi; se won ti so kinni yen di language niyen? |
Children labour to learn their mother tongues and students labour to learn English; but no one learns to mix English and Yoruba; yet people mix the two languages effortlessly. People believe it's fashionable to mix the indigenous language with English. Nairalanders, What do you think? Could you display your skill in combining English and Yoruba? Mo feel pe o nice lati mix sentences mi. |

So, gurus in the house, what do you say to the current beerish regime in the stock market? |
Dear Colleagues. I got acquainted with a lady in our school without any emotional attchment, mind you. Later, my younger sibling met the person in my school and toasted her. She did not say yes or no. This thing dragged on for so long and I realized that I have developed an interest in the lady too. Really, though she has not said so, and I have not said anything in terms of relationship to her, I think she likes me. She confides in me, comes to my office regularly And calls or flashes me. I contemplate marriage. Please, do I go ahead and marry her or I should just close my eyes nd look elsewhere? |
Give details: What field; where tenable; etc. |
Hi Nairalanders. could you give me tips on establishing a standard primary / secondary school? What basic things must be provided before a school is open to students? |
No way friends. It's just like asking if a virgin would marry married man who already has a wife or two, |
