An online business is one which you can run online. Think of any business that involves you finding customers online, receiving payments and making delivery of goods and services online. It simply is a business that you could do over an internet platform. Your customers find you online, they make payments to you while you deliver whatever it is you are being paid for. Opportunity According to a recent global study of internet penetration Nigeria has roughly 9% of its over 150 million people connected to the internet, that translates to roughly 14 million people. There are 5 million Nigerians on facebook and over 3 million on twitter. More than 900,000 Nigerians are registered users on Nairaland to mention a few online market places where it’s possible to showcase goods and services to an online audience here in Nigeria. The market is enormous but to tap into this opportunity, you’ll have to do what many brick and mortar businesses can’t do or are not offering. For instance price, can you offer a high value product for less than average price? Also consider rare commodities. Products that are hard to find in many shops can also be sold online. Some people are doing good business online in Nigeria selling cakes through their websites, designer shoes, bags and even cars. Challenges The major challenges with doing online business in Nigeria are Trust, payment method and shipping/delivery. First how do you win the trust of Nigerians to buy what you are offering? That is the main challenge, if you can overcome the trust issue then you still have to find a convenient and safe method of processing payment. Will people pay you by direct bank deposit or electronically? Also consider how to deliver the goods to the end user. How long will he/she have to wait to receive his/her goods? Which method of delivery will you use to deliver the goods? Then the idea of doing business online in Nigeria is also relatively new as not many Nigerians are keen on patronizing online merchants but that doesn’t mean there are no opportunities. Startup Requirements A professionally designed website A website is your online shop. It’s what you use to display your goods and services to the world to appreciate and patronize. If you really want to make money through your website then it must be professionally designed and made to look like what any serious business will own. A good website starts from N15’000 Online Marketing Tools In this era of people being active on social media; facebook, twitter, nairaland and so on it would be a sin not to have marketing tools to help you penetrate this market. You need to have a facebook page, a blog and an account on twitter and nairaland if you want to exploit the marketing opportunities. If you don’t have the time or know the turf, you can hire someone to do your online marketing for you, they come with various titles such as; social media manager, web content marketer or Social media consultant and so on. Just found this on Forbes and thought I'd share it https://b-i.forbesimg.com/parmyolson/files/2013/06/Faces-of-the-Future-4.jpg In 100,000 years: The human face is proportioned to the 'golden ratio,' though it features unnervingly large eyes. There is green “eye shine” from the tapetum lucidum, and a more pronounced superciliary arch. A sideways blink of the reintroduced plica semilunaris seen in the light gray areas of the eyes, while miniature bone-conduction devices implanted above the ear work with the communications lenses on the eyes. According to Forbes Magazine, the human species is going to undergo several physiological changes including the in the eyes and face. The eyes are expected to be large and very powerful and possibly wirelessly connected. We'll also have larger nostrils for breathing in other planets as well http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2013/06/07/how-the-human-face-might-look-in-100000-years/ http://www.abujafood.com/lifestyle/gadgets-a-tech/1247-how-the-human-face-would-look-like-in-100000-years-time.html |

https://leadership.ng/sites/default/files/styles/panopoly_image_full/public/news_articles/saka.gif The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria Mr. Steve Evans, has described the celebrated porting of the comedian Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka as a mistake, noting that he will return back to Etisalat fold after 90 days. Speaking in Lagos yesterday at a media Roundtable on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) , Evans noted that “We all make mistakes in life” and the decision by Saka to port from Etisalat to a rival network MTN Nigeria was one of such mistakes on the part of the comedian. In what could be regarded as one of the official statement by any high ranking staff of Etisalat since Saka ported over a month ago, Evans said he is hoping Saka would realise his mistakes and port back at the end of the 90 days grace period given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for subscribers to port back to any other his original network. The CEO noted that Etisalat was well prepared for the MNP and has built and expanded its network to accommodate over 30 million subscribers which is double its present capacity. He noted that his company has recorded very impressive results since the MNP kicked off on April 22. Though he refused to provide the details but said he was satisfied with the report he was getting from his men on the field. Furthermore, Evans maintained that his company has improved tremendously in its Key Performance -indicator (KPI) ratings. http://leadership.ng/news/070613/saka-ll-port-back-etisalat-after-90-days-ceo |
Deadline for this vacancy is now July 15th, 2013! Applications are still welcome! |
The Phd holders are obviously saying half a loaf is better than none! No time to be selective with jobs just apply for the ones available! |
There is this prestige that many Nigerians have with being called graduates. Most young Nigerians who want to build a career only think of white collar jobs and you can’t secure one if you don’t have a university degree or a Higher National Diploma from a recognized polytechnic in Nigeria. The examination body responsible for preparing students to gain admission into Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria is the Joint Admission and Matriculation board (JAMB) while the various Universities and Polytechnics conduct separate examinations to admit deserving students into various department through an aptitude test known as Universities/Polytechnics Matriculations Exam also known as Post UME. Market Opportunity There are at least 1.7 million Nigerians who would want to take the 2014 Jamb/UTME examination and majority of them lack sufficient experience or knowledge on how to prepare for these examinations. An experienced tutor/instructor who understands how the process works from time of registration till admissions and eventual matriculation stands to gain a lot especially in the big towns and cities all over Nigeria. In some cases intending JAMB takers (JAMBITES) pay as much as N5000 per month to prepare for 4 subjects, imagine if you had 40 students to teach per month, that would be N200,000 to say the least. Challenges But it a good idea always sounds good until it’s tested. There are many challenges you’ll face such as suitable location as many students tend to judge a prep center by its location which is not easy to find. If you’re using under a tree or behind someone’s house it makes you look like a quick buck. Also you’ll have to deal with examination touts and mercenaries as some of them might want to poach your students into patronizing them. It’s common these days to have people waiting for already answered questions sent to their phones in the exam halls thanks to touts who may give your business a bad name if you’re not careful. Business Strategy There are several strategies you can adopt to make money for yourself apart from charging fees. You can sell handouts, JAMB scratch cards and key points for your students to study at their own leisure time. Another strategy will be to have both morning and evening classes. Morning classes could start by 9 am and end by noon Mondays to Fridays and 10 am till noon on Saturdays while evening classes could run from 4 pm till 7 pm Mondays to Fridays and 4 pm till 6 pm on Saturdays or probably give Saturdays off for evening classes depending on your capacity. As stated earlier you’ll also need a good location like a shop space in a busy neighbourhood or very close to a university/polytechnic area or where there are many secondary schools. This is just a marketing strategy to put you close to the students. Requirements You’ll need to have one subject teacher who is really good at each subject. For instance someone can specialize in chemistry and physics, another teacher may take biology and geography, another might take Maths, while literature and English can go to another teacher. You pay your teachers per class taught like say N500 per class with each class lasting for 1 hour. Start-Up Capital Rent – N60,000 Stationery (Marker board, pens, textbooks etc) – N50,000 Furniture (10 benches and desks) – N80,000 Generator set – N20,000 Others – N20,000 Total – N230,000 Conclusion The business is not for everyone as you need to have a passion for teaching and an eye to hire good teachers. There are many graduates of colleges of Education who are unemployed and many of them would be glad to teach for a small fee. Overall it’s your reputation that will sell your business for you so strive hard to make it work well for you. http://lagosbusinesses..com/2013/06/how-to-start-jambutme-tutorialprep.html |

When I read news like this I feel sorry for Nigerians incarcerated in police stations. I know the case of a man who was missing for 3 months only for the family to discover he was locked up and tortured at a police station in Festac Town. Others were bailed and released but because he was so poor and had no phone to contact family members he was left there until someone luckily managed to reach his family on his behalf before they rallied money to pay off the arresting officers. What was his offence? He was around Alaba Market area when police came to arrest some suspected thieves so he said anyways and he just happened to have been around when they started arresting people indiscriminately. |

We would often times love to take great photos with our cameras or mobile phones but how often do we realize how poorly taken our photos are? What’s equally worth considering is what causes the mistakes in the first place. Here we’re listing 5 common photography mistakes and their causes: Blurry Pictures One of the top complaints from amateur photographers is that their images have come out blurry. The simple answer to this problem usually is that there isn’t enough light reaching the sensor, so the camera struggles to take a sharp image. Various ways to solve this issue include using a tripod or a monopod (a must in low light conditions!), choosing a higher ISO setting for faster shutter speeds or using flash to freeze any movement. Too Much Contrast in Photos A photograph with too much contrast has a strong difference between light (highlight) and darker (shadow) areas of the image. This is very apparent in photographs taken on a sunny day. Use flash to fill in the dark shadowy areas of the image and try underexposing the image by one or two stops to see the difference it makes. Picture Subject is too far In every photograph we shoot, we want something engaging in the frame. If your subject is too far away, it will not make much impact. You can move closer by using a good quality telephoto zoom lens or we can crop the image later with your image editing software. Remember to shoot the image at the highest resolution possible because cropping reduces the quality. Low Resolution Photos Shooting at a low resolution may allow you to store more images on your memory card, but it is a bad idea. Using a low resolution setting means that the image quality will suffer, and you won’t be able to print large photographs without noticing the pixels. Additionally, every time you save a jpeg file it loses some quality. If you start off with a small file, your editing options will be very limited. Buy additional memory cards and take your photos with higher resolution and avoid low quality files! Overexposed Pictures If your photograph is too bright and lacking in detail, then it is overexposed. This means there is too much light hitting the sensor. Overexposure can be particularly bad on bright days or with light colored subjects. To correct for overexposure, you can try underexposing the image by choosing -0.5 or -1 and seeing if more detail has been retained. Additionally, use spot metering for accurate results - pick a grey mid-toned area in your image as the guideline. http://www.abujafood.com/lifestyle/fashion-a-style/1242-5-photography-mistakes-and-their-causes.html |
