Events5 Abuja Night Clubs To Know by Abujafood(op): 7:00pm On Oct 25, 2013
https://user319764.websitewizard.com/images/A-New/nightclub-lights.jpg

Clubbing – the act of going to night clubs for partying and hangouts - is such a popular lifestyle among out going, fun seeking folks within Abuja and many take to it as a weekly ritual. Here in Abuja the number of night clubs probably number over 50 when we consider those offered by hotels as well but not all Night clubs meet with what every typical ‘clubber’ would crave for.

What you’ll typically find at these night clubs; prime location, security, layout design, drinks, DJ and entry fees. It may surprise you but in Abuja if the price isn’t high, the club isn’t fly.

Club Storm – Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2
This is no ordinary Abuja night club as it attracts a number of notable events including album listening parties and known for hosting many top rate celebrities including; Denrele, Burna Boy, Melvin and Beverly (BBA chase), M.I, Brymo to mention a few and is also Abuja’s newest night club. You’ll find Club stormm at Obum Place just opposite Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

Klub Vanity, House of Cubana
Klub Vanity a night club you’ll find at the House of Cubana in also on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse 2. Well this club gives Club storm a run for its money in terms of attracting the crème de la crème of Abuja partiers and Night hangers as it is a world class night club. Just be ready though to throw a lot of cash as its drinks don’t come cheap and there seems to be a run for who will out spend the other.

Krystal Lounge, Aminu Kano
This is another night club in Abuja worth its salt. It’s worth knowing if you want an option from the previous two listed and where else than the popular Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse 2.

Sofa Lounge, Adetokunbo Ademola
While they’re known for high quality leather furniture and for bringing in celebrities like Kerry Hilson for their face of Sofa pageant, Sofa Lounge is a night club per excellence. Their impressive interior and bar is a major attraction of fun seekers within Abuja.

The Hut, Aminu Kano
For lovers of Chinese cuisine in Abuja, the hut catering is a leading choice but they also have an upscale night club. Make that two actually as they have an exclusively VIP night club which you can access by a stairway or just their regular night club which is in a basement. Bottom line a cute night club.

Education7 Of The Best Secondary Schools In Abuja by Abujafood(op): 5:39pm On Oct 21, 2013
Looking to send your ward to a great secondary school in Abuja? We’ll advise you to do a little background check on these schools as well to inform your decision on which schools to pick. Here are some of the top Secondary Schools in Abuja in case you’re searching for where to start;

American International School of Abuja

They’re the best and most expensive Secondary School in Abuja. Running an American based Education system this is a school patronized by the high and mighty of Abuja including Governors, ministers and diplomats and of course members of the local expatriate community. They have a very effective management team in place and your wards are in safe hands not forgetting their high academic standards.

Lead British International School – Boarding and Day (Gwarinpa)

This is another high class secondary situated in Gwarinpa. They have all the facilities in place that any standard 21st century school should own. Although they run a British style academic curriculum the school is wholly Nigerian – owned and managed by Nigerians.

Regent School – Boarding and Day (Maitama, Abuja)

This is a British run secondary school with very high academic standards. They employ only British trained teachers with Nigerian assistants. They have an effective school system in place that will ensure all round training for your child.

Loyola Jesuit College - Boarding

This is a Catholic owned Secondary school located in Gidan Mangoro along karu-Karshi road on the outskirts of the city. The school is wholly a boarding school using centuries old strictly catholic inspired curriculum and they’re stiff with upholding their principles nevertheless the school is up to date with modern trends in all round child Education.

Nigerian Turkish International School (Day School)

Another of the big schools patronized by the high and mighty of Abuja, this school has one slight disadvantage though which is that it’s location is within a commercial hub (Monrovia street in Wuse 2) in the city center possibly a bit of distraction to the pupils but in terms of having sound facilities and management in place, it’s one of Abuja’s best.

International Community School, Jabi

Targeting mostly the expatriate community in Abuja the ICS now at the more serene Jabi district from their previous location at Wuse 2, the ICS is a school that provides an enabling environment for world class qualitative learning.

Olumawu College, Wuse 2

A bit on the middle ground, Olumawu is relatively more affordable than the other schools on this list, but also of high standard. Founded in 1993 by one of Nigeria’s leading Educationists Margaret Olumawu, the school has lived up to its reputation of providing qualitative secondary schooling to Nigerians.

BusinessWhat Kind Of Business And How Much Capital Do I Need To Start In Nigeria? by Abujafood(op): 11:49am On Oct 14, 2013
This question keeps repeating itself in many ways from people asking what kind of business can I start with N1 million or N500,000? etc. Or I have N50,000 what kind of business can I do with it?

There’s a problem with this kind of thinking which is that the person asking it is looking for a business he can start with a certain amount of money in order to make profit. If it’s that simple then any kind of business is suitable for anyone but that is not the reality on ground.

The problem isn’t with the amount of money or the kind of business it’s more like is the business in question right for you to do? Forget about the capital needed to start but ask this question: what kind of business is suitable for me to start? Once you can answer this then finding the capital to start should follow suit.

On the other hand if you have money but don’t know what to do with it and haven’t found a profitable way to invest it, do the wise thing which is to put it into an interest yielding deposit like treasury bills or buy real estate with it till you can truly say to yourself this is the kind of business I want to do because I understand it well.

Dangote owes the success of his business to understanding it like he was once quoted as saying “I don’t invest in any business I don’t understand” same applies to Bill gates, Mike Adenuga and any other successful business man you know.

To answer the second question “how much capital do I need to start?” that also depends on the kind of business. Some businesses require no start-up capital like the service based businesses while others such as retail businesses require start-up capital ranging from a few thousands to even millions of naira.

Good luck as you search for your next big business venture to set up.

Food5 Popular Fast Food Eateries In Abuja by Abujafood(op): 6:04pm On Oct 10, 2013
Typically in many Nigerian urban centers people hop into fast food eateries to enjoy specially made meals, the kind you find at parties. It is a favorite meeting point for people on dates even business meetings and other social gatherings. Here in Abuja we’ve taken time to assess the 5 most frequented eateries and critic them using; Service Delivery, Ambiance, Location, pricing and Menu.

Southern Fried Chicken

We respect this eatery for always being neat and having courteous staff. Their meals are well prepared and stylishly too. All their branches are spacious but they have a modest menu. Expect to find the usual suspects for pastries and a few continental dishes – jollof, fried rice but no local delicacies. Their meals are moderately priced. Our major problem with them is insufficient parking space for customers.

Chicken Republic

Wherever you find this franchise in Nigeria you’re always sure of one thing – cozy interior and ambiance and really tasty meals. Chicken republic has made a name for itself as a good alternative to many foreign brands in the fast food industry able to rub shoulders with them but we think their menu is a bit too stereotype.

Drumstix

Perhaps Abuja’s most popular eatery judging by the crowds that throng all their branches whether it’s Gwarinpa, Asokoro, Garki 2 or Wuse 2 they have a rich assortment of snacks and confectioneries but not much in terms of local delicacies. We however respect their Shawarma, ice cream and Suya really tasty. Parking space may be sufficient or not depending on branch.

Kilimanjaro

They enjoy quite a lot of patronage from many Abuja residents and for good reasons. Their meals are very tasty hardly a fault to find in any of them except their meat pies. They offer competitive prices for meals and the ambiance is a bit casual but not bad. Parking space is never a problem for them as you’ll always have somewhere to park – you’ll always find them within major shopping malls like the 911 and Ceddi plaza.

Chicken Capitol

But for their convenience which is unkempt and their not so tasty local delicacies, Chicken Capitol should be a leading Abuja Fast Food eatery. But they have great shawarma and chicken and their ambiance is just okay.

AdvertsThe Quarter Café - The Best Café In Abuja by Abujafood(op): 12:44pm On Oct 09, 2013
For people who enjoy taking coffee especially the espresso makes here in Abuja you have various options at your disposal.

You could try out just any Café and get just any kind of drink and service you find or alternatively choose a really good Café and get served really good coffee in a really good setting with waiters that know how to make you feel at home.

If what you want is a world class feel, something so special that you’re immediately reminded of Starbucks then it must be the quarter Café.

The rich selection of coffee drinks available from them including Cappuccino, Mocha, latte Machiatto and a host of other espresso variety beverages that many Cafes in Abuja fall short of in terms of quality make.

The average Café in Abuja may try to offer their customers a great feel of richly made coffee beverages but they fall short in one department – lacking the trade secret world leading coffee beverage makers know about, the ‘magic’ that makes for a perfect Café experience.

As food critics we’ve tried really hard to fault all cafes from looking at how well their coffee is made including checking for inconsistency in the brews to looking at overall service delivery and a near perfect reflection of what world class cafes should look like we have since found only one Café that stands above board – the quarter Café.

While we’ll expect your coffee to be made with freshly ground coffee beans – that is bean is ground and made in an espresso machine while you wait – we find that at the Quarter Café it’s exactly that way a key factor that determines whether or not your drink would taste as well as you’d love.

Away to what you should experience besides the drink we love the interior décor which is world class very Parisian reminding first time visitors who have been to Paris or other typical European Cafes what enjoying freshly made coffee brews should feel and look like.

On a scale of 10 we rate the quarter Café 9 and we dare say no other Café in Abuja compares to them.

The Quarter Café is located at 6, Tapeta Street in the Serene British Village in Wuse 2 (off Thaba Tseka Street off IBB way) and you can reach them via telephone on: 08184144444

Actually it's hard to tell cause what most people would overlook she makes a big deal of. She's not the only one who can get angry that is what his problem with her is since she also can offend others as well yet people don't flare up at her.

Jobs/Vacancies5 Work At Home Job, Income And Business Opportunities In Nigeria by Abujafood(op): 8:37pm On Oct 03, 2013

For many Nigerians finding a job to do at home or even business opportunities doesn’t come easy. They always have this impression that businesses must require huge capital outlay to start something and that you must have a shop or office to do a business or even work. That is not always the case as a few people have found ways to earn an income online and offline from home in Nigeria. If you’re a Nigerian looking for a job or a stable source of income you may want to look at these 5 for a start.

5 Income making opportunities for Nigerians
While I’ll recommend these income making ventures to Nigerians I’m also careful to state that they require some work to make anything meaningful of them. See them as real jobs or businesses although you’re running them from home.

Freelance Writing opportunities for Nigerians
There are some Nigerians who make a decent income from writing articles as freelance writers on some contractor websites such as elance and odesk. What do these websites do? They create a market place for people who know how to write to meet with clients who are looking for writers. You get paid a particular amount of money per article based on the agreement reached with the client and there is no limit to how much you can make as some people earn as much as $2000 per month writing not more than 100 articles.

Events Planning and management for Nigerians
Events planning and management is a growing industry in Nigeria. Not very many people are making money from it anyways but that is due to our believe that we don’t really need professionals to help plan our events including weddings. How wrong indeed is this mindset because expert event planners can actually save you a lot of cost and headaches in planning your events especially weddings. A few Nigerians who know how to market this service are smiling to the bank even though they work from home.

Online Marketing for Nigerians
Businesses are always looking for ways to market their products and services. These days the online medium is becoming the fastest and least expensive ways for service oriented businesses to reach local markets online using blogs, social networks and business directories. However this line of work needs time and patience to master but the rewards are quite impressive overtime ask Linda Ikeji and Bella Naija for proof that it works.

Tailoring as a Business Venture
If you know how to sew decent native attires nothing stops you from using your balcony or a room in your flat as your base. Word spreads fast if your work is excellent you won’t have to do too much marketing as people who see the wonderful works you do will connect with you for business.

Blogging
These days blogging is becoming an all comers affair. Almost everyone has a blog but very few people know what to do with it when it comes to making money online. While this is closely related to online marketing there’s a slight difference in that blogs are simply dedicated information sharing websites for periodical entries. See them as an extension of magazines or a person’s voice online the only difference is that a blog can build an online community with which the blogger in question can connect with real people online through comments and emails. These presents a money making opportunity in form of adverts or sale of products that appeal to that audience.

If you’re a Nigerian and you’re unemployed, try out any of these opportunities or better still look inwards for more ideas that could lead to setting up a profitable venture for yourself. Best luck!

Instead I prefer the 'balangu' version. Balangu is well prepared and far better than 'suya'. Whenever I'm in the Northern area, I always relish my 'balangu' with 'gurasa' and chilled bottles of beer.

We may all differ about what constitutes good suya – based on health concerns - but we all agree it should taste good. Grilled meat in whatever form is something to look forward to if you enjoy a once in a while treat at some of Abuja’s popular suya spots. Down here what to expect when taking suya in Abuja;

In Abuja like in many Nigerian cities Suya is served mostly in the evenings beginning from 5 pm when the fire is put on till late into the night sometimes early morning. Most people who take it upon themselves to enjoy this special meat grills see it as a light meal for outdoor hangouts with friends or dates.

Variety and Pricing
Price of most Suya in Abuja starts from N200, what you can get for that amount is a single meat steak usually beef but occasionally lamb, gizzard, liver or kidney. There’s also Chicken Suya but usually goes for N1200 or more. Sometimes as a substitute you can have grilled fish served with chips and other coduments or even shawarma starting from N1000 (although it’s not regarded as suya).

How Suya is Served
Suya could be served on a flat plate if you’re eating it within or served as take-away usually on newspaper wrapped in black nylon (popularly called leather) and it’s usually with an assortment of sliced tomatoes, onions, lettuce and granulated pepper or even local masa.

Popular Abuja Suya Spots
Most of the tastiest Suya in Abuja is sold at recreational gardens or along busy roads. So far the most popular Suya spot in all of Abuja is Yahuza suya and they’re in Garki 2 (Garki Supermarket) and Wuse (behind AP plaza and near Amigos Supermarket). But a few other suya spots also make themselves felt at various parts of the metropolis such as along Salt lake street in Maitama (near Blinkers plaza) or the Sharwarma spot of Drumstix in Asokoro near AYA or along Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse 2.

Health implications
However keep in mind the health risks of taking Suya namely; bad breath, tooth decay and potential risks to your liver (from eating red meat). Shawarma seems more healthier than Suya although more expensive but for an outdoor treat especially on a date, it might be worth it.

Warning
Instead of having beef, lamb Suya or any other form of red meat, opt for Chicken, grilled fish or shawarma instead as they are both nutritious and relatively less harmful to the body.

TravelTop 8 Abuja Supermarkets To Know About by Abujafood(op): 5:22pm On Sep 30, 2013
One thing about Abuja that makes it stand out readily from most Nigerian Cities is how easy it is to spot a supermarket in town. Almost every neighbourhood has a super market and we don’t mean corner shops where household provisions are sold but large sized super markets that stock a large range of consumables including; electronics, household gadgets, edibles, clothing to mention a few. We’ve taken time to note some very popular supermarkets in Abuja and here’s our list:

212 Super Market (Usuma Street, Maitama District)

This is one of those supermarkets that seems designed for diplomats and Nigerians of the higher income class especially Ministers, Ambassadors to mention a few. That explains why things are expensively priced at this store but you won’t be disappointed by their rich selection of high quality groceries mostly imported of course. They a small parking space and are strict with its usage ensuring only customers use them they open 12 noon till 10 pm daily.

Sahad Stores (Area 11 and Central Area)

Sahad Stores is one of Abuja’s oldest big supermarkets. This is perhaps Abuja’s biggest wholly owned Nigerian Supermarket if we take into account its two branches which are very large. There’s hardly anything under the sun you can’t find in this supermarket. The supermarket is relatively cheaper than most of those on this list. Parking space is a little inadequate and there’s always traffic around the supermarket area.

Shop Rite Abuja (Apo District)

Like its counterparts in Lagos, Enugu and Port Harcourt, the Abuja Shop rite is very large with a large parking space and an everyman’s delight. If you hop into shop rite to buy anything and can’t find it, there’s a good chance that no other super market in Abuja has it.

Dunes Super Market (Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama)

This is another upscale supermarket targeting high end Abuja folks especially the expatriate community as the supermarket is short on made in Nigeria products as all items on sale are imported and of course above average market price. There’s more than enough parking space within the exclusive Dunes Plaza for shoppers.

Next SuperMarket (Mabuchi District)

By Land Area covered this is Abuja’s largest super market on Ahmadu Bello way just after the bridge linking Wuse 2 to Kado district and Gwarinpa. Like Shop Rite the super market is richly stocked and affordable.

Exclusive Stores (Wuse 2)

This is a very popular super market in Wuse 2 that stands on three floors with a basement area. The Super Market is every inch a modern world class shopping Mall and it’s a shoppers delight any day. There’s also a restaurant and a café located within the stores.

Park N Shop (Wuse 2)

This is another very popular super market located a few blocks away from the popular banex plaza but our problem with this supermarket is its steep price for most of its items as it’s one of the most expensive super markets in Abuja. There’s ample parking space but in our

Classic Super Market

This is a new entrant among those on this list. Located on the busy and popular Gana Street the SuperMarket is very impressive with well stocked items but the price is slightly more expensive perhaps due to its location in an upscale part of Abuja.

TravelTop 6 Of Abuja’s Most Popular Landmarks by Abujafood(op): 7:20pm On Sep 27, 2013
Landmarks make it easier for people to find their way around a huge city and could be a major tourist attraction within a city. Here in Abuja these 6 landmarks easily standout serving as reference point for locating places within various Abuja districts.

The Silverbird Entertainment Center
Mention Cinemas or Abuja’s best place for a hangout and you shouldn’t be surprised if anyone replies Silverbird. This 5 storey gigantic Mall and entertainment center is a landmark that you should know about specifically if you’re looking for a fun place to hang out with friends on a visit to town or you happen to be on a visit to Abuja and you’re bored.

City Gate
The so called entry point into the city center from the Abuja international Airport. It’s the entry point for first time visitors to Abuja especially expatriates into the main districts of Abuja; Asokoro, Wuse, Garki, Maitama and Central Business District. This Icon is presently undergoing a facelift and should be a source of pride to the city.

Eagle Square (Central Area)
Famed for hosting major national events such as party conventions, hand over ceremonies, labour day celebrations and independence day celebrations to name a few the Eagle Square is one of Nigeria’s most symbolic icons you can’t miss it if you happen to be driving through the so called three arms zone or the national secretariat.

Banex Plaza (Wuse 2)
The biggest shopping Plaza in Abuja, Banex has a bus stop named after it and hardly anyone who has had anything to do in Abuja’s city center is oblivious of this land mark.

National Stadium
The national stadium built in 2003 at a whopping cost of N38 billion remains one of the biggest and easily most recognised monuments in Abuja. Of late it has been at the receiving end of neglect suffering from dilapidation but it still remains one of Abuja’s easily recognised Icons.

Millennium Park
People from far and wide visit the millennium park on weekends and public holidays as it makes a name for itself as the most popular relaxation spot within Abuja attracting massive number of visitors from far and wide.

casiello: I hope someone answers this question. I myself I am pondering which professional course i register for. Problem is that I'm average in mathematics, I've always been average in mathematics since my primary school days and sometime detest maths. Now most professional course seems to be calculative intensive and the last thing I want is to find myself studied a professional course where I struggle with the numerical section of it. Any advice or insights from peeps here will be appreciated.
Actually being proficient in Maths isn't such a big deal when it comes to learning project management!
