Yeah whatever by the way blogs are also social networking sites contrary to your earlier posture!

stop trying to defend your ignorance, stop using twitter as a yardstick for blogs cos it is not a blogging platform, comparing nairaland to not twitter, there is a big difference between a social network with microblogging capabilities and a blog.

Seems you made the wrong quote here, I was replying him on how reliable the figures I posted were.

Now about the twitter, nairaland ish that's your opinion, there's no standard definition of what a blog should be or shouldn't be. You're entitled to yours I have mine, no need to shout "ignorance"

Nairaplus: How come you are privy to their account transaction? Or how were you ablr to come up with these figures. Let me quote Seun:

Who said I must have access to their transactions to estimate their potential incomes? Does Forbes have access to the account transactions of folks it profiles? Simple investigations can enable you piece info together.

For many young Nigerians making money as a blogger is a pipe dream, better to get a full time job that pays a good salary such as a bank job than just sitt behind a computer with internet access and upload information to share with an online audience. But that may be utter rubbish going by the impressive incomes these Nigerian bloggers earn from their blogs. We profile them in descending order.

Top 5 Bloggers in Nigeria by Income

Here's our list of top 5 money making bloggers in Nigeria;

Linda Ikeji: Earns between N3 million – N4 million monthly

If you’re looking for an example of how to earn money absolutely free of charge with zero investment online here in Nigeria then Linda Ikeji’s story provides ample proof. She practically runs a blog on a free platform – blogger – without paying for domain or web hosting or even better yet a professional SEO consultant to help her optimize her blog to build an online audience that runs into millions of fans. She’s what you’ll call the Arianna huffington of Nigerian blogosphere except that she’s more biased towards entertainment gist and human angle stories. She recently completed a second house for her parents in addition to the 2 flashy cars she owns worth over N10 million, Linda can prove many wrong you can succeed in Nigeria without being born with a Silver spoon in your mouth and from doing something trivial as well – blogging.
Her blog: www.lindaikeji..com

Oluwaseun Osewa: Earns more than N2 million monthly

Innocent and cute looking Seun founded Nairaland in 2005 and was so confident of building wealth with it that he dared anyone interested in buying his website to pay N25 billion for it. Today Seun can afford to sleep all day at home as his website runs on auto-pilot – he hardly creates topics nor does he moderate topics posted – and the best part of it he doesn’t need to hire anyone for any reason. We could nickname Seun the Mark Zukerberg of Nigeria except that by page views and may be layout nairaland still has a long way to go when compared to facebook.
His blog: www.nairaland.com

Bamidele Onibalusi – at least N1.6 million monthly

Young but very hard working Bamidele Onibalusi is one of the quiet money making bloggers in Nigeria that very few people will ever hear about. He knows only too well that making the money and building a reliable brand means more to him than being seen and heard hence why he’s strictly about freelance writing and his private life but the young Nigerian article writer has made a name for himself with US based companies that hire him to write for them through hard work and perseverance. 6 months of consistent guest blogging has made him the world’s leading expert on guest blogging and why he has a huge number of aspiring writers as fans.
His Blog: www.writersincharge.com

Uche Eze Pedro – at least N1.5 million monthly

She started Bella Naija as a hobby, sharing magazine publications, mostly lifestyle to her audience like Linda Ikeji using blogger. But having built such a large audience it dawned on her to take on a more corporate brand hence why she registered “Bella Naija” domain. Today she’s Nigeria’s 4th highest earning blogger and an employer of labour as well.
Her Blog: www.bellanaija.com

Japheth Omojuwa: at least N500,000 monthly

Japheth may not be a household name to many Nigerians on the regular blogosphere but find your way down to micro-blogging platform twitter and a powerful personality emerges in @omojuwa with 95,000 plus followers and commanding an influence that has made brands trust his power to influence consumer choices. Japheth gets paid to make brands trend on twitter or simply just for talking about football via: #MTNFootball. His regular blog: www.omojuwa.com is among Nigeria’s 100 most visited websites although nothing to compare with a few others making mega bucks by the side.

Education / Abuja’s 5 Most Expensive Secondary Schools by Abujafood: 8:24pm On Dec 23, 2013
A popular saying goes "if you think Education is expensive, try ignorance" that may seem to be the expression by these Abuja based schools which provide very excellent Schooling experience for a few priviledged kids at what most people might call outrageous amounts.

One might argue that if standards are not compromised then indeed these schools may have the world class standard expected of them but their fees well we leave you to judge.

In order of how expensive they are here are Abuja’s top 5 most expensive schools;

American International School of Abuja – N3.2 Million
AISA is Abuja’s most expensive School with School fees starting from $13,000 per annum for kindergarten to as high as $19,300 for 9th to 12th grade (high Schoolers). This doesn’t include other charges and fees such as clubs that parents are expected to pay as well.

Loyola Jesuit College – N2.2 million plus per annum
Perhaps you could argue Abuja’s toughest school for the rich, here Academic and spiritual activities are taken very seriously with no room for sloppiness. The School charges N2 million per annum for each child and that’s just for fees and boarding facilities. But you can be sure of one thing – your child’s Education is in good hands.

International Community School – N1.9 Million per annum
Abuja’ school for the international community better known by its acronym ICS is Abuja’s 3rd most expensive school. Their new location at their permanent site in Jabi gives them an exclusive preserve but in addition they’re fast picking pace as a school with growing popularity among the international community in Abuja.

Nigerian Turkish International College – N1.6 million per annum
Operating a Turkish based curriculum for the Nigerian environment the NTIC is a world class school in Abuja situated on Monrovia Street in Wuse 2. For your money’s worth this school offers excellent academic and extra-curricular activities.

Regent School Maitama – N1.35 million per annum
A high quality British based Education for your wards is a watch word at the great Regent School in Maitama. School fees vary but presently pegged at N1.35 million per annum for Senior Secondary.

redcliff: Your figures are wrong. Lagos alone is 17m.

That is still in dispute. NPC figures are 13 million or thereabout LASG figures 17 million.
Travel / Top 5 Cities In Nigeria By Population by Abujafood: 8:06pm On Dec 20, 2013
Nigeria is Africa’s largest country by population and the country with the highest number of black souls together living together on the planet. With an estimated population of 170 million people in 2013 as against 140 million in 2006 one would wonder which cities contain so many people and why. Here are the top 5 most populated cities in Nigeria.

Lagos (Estimated: 13 million Inhabitants)
By population Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city with an urban population of 13 million people who mostly reside on the mainland. The other part of Lagos surrounded by the Lagos Lagoon – the Island – is the high brow part of the city where fewer people reside due to high cost of rent and general living costs. Lagos used to be the national capital and is presently the economic capital of Nigeria accounting for 65% of the country’s manufacturing and 80% of international trade that must explain why the population is ever growing plus the fact that there are almost equal opportunities for all to succeed.

Kano (Estimated: 11 million Inhabitants)
Kano is the largest city in Northern Nigeria and Nigeria’s second largest city. As the commercial capital of Northern Nigeria it accounts for the highest volume of trade and commercial activities in that region. Naturally the population of this part of Nigeria is expected to raise sharply due to early marriages, polygamy and cultural practices which encourage women to have as many as 19 children during their child bearing years.

Abuja (Estimated: 2.8 million Inhabitants)
The capital city of Nigeria has been attracting folks from all over Nigeria particularly since 1999 making it Nigeria’s fastest growing city. Most migrants to Abuja are from the North and Middle belt regions with Igbos of South Eastern Nigeria attracting the largest number of migrants from Southern Nigeria. Most people who come to Abuja from the South especially Lagos want a fresh start while others want to exploit the heavy government spending and perceived cash filled city. Most of the City’s inhabitants reside on the outskirts of the city and in satellite towns.

Ibadan (Estimated: 2.3 million Inhabitants)
Ibadan the famed former largest city in West Africa has been overtaken by Lagos, Abuja and Kano. The so called city of ‘firsts’ Ibadan in South western Nigeria is predominantly a Yoruba town with trade and Agriculture as the mainstay of the local economy. Migrants from other Yoruba dominated states account for the growing population.

Port Harcourt (Estimated: 2.2 million Inhabitants)
Port Harcourt the so called garden city of Nigeria and Capital of River state is the 5th largest city in Nigeria. The local economy is supported by petroleum industry but trade is another major source of attraction to many folks looking for greener pastures mostly from Niger Delta and South Eastern Nigeria. The city’s population is fast growing and could overtake Ibadan in a few years time.

Education / Top 5 Private Universities In Nigeria by Abujafood: 7:01pm On Dec 13, 2013
Private Universities in Nigeria are gradually becoming the darling of many in search of qualitative Tertiary Education. With the unpredictable academic environment in government owned Universities many consider gaining admission into private Universities to be a good decision.

With a 6 month old ASUU strike just about to end you can understand why a 4 year course in a Nigerian Government owned University could last 5 years or more not to also mention corruption among University staff, cultism to name a few.

So one can relate with many parents and guardians who opt for private Universities in Nigeria - which among others have been labeled expensive or even overrated.

Criteria for selecting these Private Universities
Do these Universities have standard academic programmes running? What about quality of their infrastructure (admin buildings, staff quarters, recreational facilities, hostels) and facilities (laboratories, classrooms, libraries) and the overall standard of their products when compared to other Universities in Nigeria? These are the criteria used in assessing them.

List of Best 5 Private Universities in Nigeria

Covenant University (Founded: in 2002 by Bishop David Oyedepo)
This is Nigeria’s best privately owned University having practically everything a modern day University should have in terms of facilities and infrastructure. What’s more is the caliber of staff the University has on its pay roll – experienced lecturers from both within Nigeria and a few ‘imported’ but renowned lecturers. We give it to them for being the first University in Nigeria to incorporate entrepreneurship training among its students but the drawback it’s too religious a school.

Madonna University (Founded in 1999 by Reverend Father (Professor) Edeh)
Madonna University is the first privately owned University in Nigeria. It runs both undergraduate and post graduate programmes in its 3 campuses located at Okija, Elele and Akpugo. While the strict adherence to catholic tradition is used in running this University and it may seem quite good to ensure disciplined behavior among students it must however recognized as a very harsh institution. None the less products of the University are taught self-reliance and career focus making them highly competitive in the job market.

American University of Nigeria (Founded in 2005)
The University known for using American based Curriculum for its academic programmes – it runs a partnership with American University in Washington DC - became the first Nigerian University to adopt the “one student one laptop” policy as a way of bringing its students up to 21st century compliant modern e-learning. The university has the most modern ICT infrastructure and has in its payroll expatriate lecturers with their wealth of knowledge and skills obtained from US institutions.

Bowen University (Founded in 2001 by Nigerian Baptist Convention)
The university with its 3 faculties currently runs one of the best Academic calendars among Nigerian Universities. Bowen is a fast evolving University ranking constantly innovating itself through its management practice and Academic programmes.

Igbinedion University (Founded in 1999 by Sir Gabriel Igbinedion)
Just like its sister schools under the Igbinedion Education center family, the University maintains high academic standards and quality Academic infrastructure although we could argue too expensive for the type and quality of programmes it runs but still a leader among private Universities in Nigeria.

Business / Ways To Earn Good Income As A Nigerian Student by Abujafood: 5:14pm On Dec 12, 2013
Many Nigerian students wonder what they can do to augment the income their parents/guardians hand them every semester as they rush to school

Scholarship/Bursary Awards
If you’re a first year student in any Nigerian University it’s always wise to draw up a list of scholarship awards available to Nigerian Students just when you gained admission into whatever institution of higher learning you’re at the reason being that from year 2 many Nigerian students are no longer eligible for some of these scholarship awards. The amount awarded as bursary or scholarships could range from N50,000 to N150,000 per annum depending on who is giving the award.

Freelance Article Writing
If you can write well especially articles then during your spare time you could make some cool money for yourself writing for freelance article websites such as odesk and elance. Visit their websites, register, create a portfolio of articles, a professional profile and start writing your way to some cool cash. The money is usually paid via western Union.

Blogging
Are the likes of Linda Ikeji, Omojuwa Japheth, Jide Ogunsanya and Laila Ikeji not enough reason to take to blogging? These people are Nigerians living in Nigeria and making good income from a part time activity as blogging. You actually need less than 4 hours a day to do serious blogging but warning though it’s not an easy road to travel but brace yourself if you’re serious.

Teaching/Tutorials
There are many secondary school leavers who want to gain admission into the University but don’t have someone knowledgeable enough to teach them. Here’s what you can do, arrange for some serious fellow students like you to organize tutorial classes and charge them peanuts. You’ll get a mad rush if they know you teach well but charge little. You can even organize tutorial classes for University students for courses where there’s mass failure or students have difficulty passing.

Freelance Marketing
If you’re not always busy you could use your spare time to help businesses look for customers. There people who pay for referring leads to them or actual buyers who make a purchase for something they’re selling. Good examples of what to market on freelance basis include; Apartments, land, cars and industrial machinery but you have to learn the ropes here and be patient because one good deal could put a lot of money in your pocket.

Education / 5 Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities for Nigerian Undergraduate Students by Abujafood: 6:45pm On Dec 11, 2013
If you’re a Nigerian undergraduate student whether in the University or polytechnic and you happen to be doing well academically or may be not it does pay to know about these scholarship opportunities because they may offer you much needed financial assistance whether in form of tuition or even ‘maintenance’ cost for many Nigerian students who may find survival in school very difficult.

Most of these scholarships just require Nigerian students to send in applications through their websites or directly through their offices. You may be required to write aptitude tests as well so get yourselves ready for that too. The scholarship awards may be cash donations/grants from the scholarship awarding institutions. Some Below we list a few scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students doing undergraduate programs to take note of;

PTDF Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme
The scheme is funded by the Petroleum technology Development Fund, a parastatal of the federal ministry of petroleum resources. It is one of the best run scholarship schemes and awards

MUSTE Scholarship
MUSTE stands for The Mankind United to Support Total Education (MUSTE). It is a Scholarship scheme founded and funded by Mr Jim Ovia former CEO of Zenith Bank to provide financial aid to deserving Nigerian youths. The successful candidates receive funding for undergraduate study for the duration of their undergraduate programs and covers tuition and maintenance allowance. Over 1000 awardees have won various scholarships since 2003 when it was founded.

SPDC Joint Venture University Scholarship Award Scheme
This Scholarship Scheme offers first year students in all Nigerian universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from the SPDC Joint Venture for the full duration of their course. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills-base among young Nigerians.

University of Sheffield - Nigeria Merit Undergraduate Scholarship Award
Every year the University of Sheffield in the UK offers two scholarship slots to Nigerian nationals or Nigerians permanently domiciled in Nigeria.on merit. Each scholarship is worth £7,000 per year of study for all undergraduate programmes except Medicine and Dentistry. Students of Medicine or Dentistry will only receive the scholarship in the first two years of study. The scholarships usually the form of a fee reduction.
Note: Applicants cannot apply for the scholarships before being offered a study place at Sheffield.

NLNG Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme
The scholarship aims to promote academic excellence among Nigerian students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Note: you can’t apply for this scheme if you’re in your second to final year, a part time student or a beneficiary of another scholarship scheme.

Celebrities / Nollywood - Nigeria's 20 Year Old Movie Industry by Abujafood: 9:47am On Dec 11, 2013
Nollywood, is Nigeria’s version of Hollywood - the movie industry born out of the need for Nigerians to tell their own stories in their own way using cinemas and home videos. She became official in 1993 with the release of Nigeria’s first ever commercially produced home video “Living in bondage” starring Kenneth Okonkwo and a host of other Igbo stars. The movie which became a hit with local audiences gave many other actors and actresses hope of making a meaningful career for themselves and investors as well who saw the profit making potential.

By 2013 - 20 years later - Nollywood is one of the most lucrative sectors of the Nigerian entertainment industry producing movies in their hundreds and offering employment for many hitherto unemployable folks.
Movies produced are done mostly in English, Yoruba or Hausa depending on which region the movie’s audience are based. The Hausa have their separate coinage – Kallywood – and is extremely popular in Northern Nigeria where many Hausa speaking folks watch them alongside Indian movies.

The Yoruba movie industry on the other hand is highly prolific with many actors and actresses actively engaged in various movies almost on a weekly basis making it a massive movie factory. The English sector is dominated by Igbo traders who call the shots and parade themselves as marketers with the actors and actresses mostly from south eastern Nigeria (Igbo speaking part of Nigeria).

Notable Nigerian Actors and Actresses
Some notable actors and actresses in Nollywood include; Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade – Ekehinde, Rita Dominic, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Noah, Desmond Elliot, Richard Mofe Damijo, Tonto Dike, Funke Akindele, Aki and Paw Paw, Joke Silver to mention a few.

Some Problems Nollywood faces till date
Piracy is the main problem hampering the growth of Nollywood as it’s almost impossible to produce a movie in Nigeria without the pirates having a field day at the expense of the movie producers. Law enforcement against piracy is very weak making it difficult to arrest and punish offenders. Also the shot callers in the industry are traders who are only interested in the commercial success of movies but not the quality. As a result movie production standards suffer as quacks and inexperienced script writers, movie producers and other important personnel are poorly chosen to make a movie happen. There’s also the problem of poor government support since the enabling environment for the industry to really boom has continued to elude the industry due to failure of government to enact policies that favour it’s growth.

Achievements of Nollywood
Nollywood has become Nigeria’s biggest brand ambassador to the world as almost all of the black world including the Caribbean, West and Central Africa and even Africans living in the developed world look to them for entertainment and connection with Nigerian lifestyle.

Nollywood has also created employment for millions of people either directly or indirectly making many millionaires out of people who may have never had a chance to be financially independent.

The industry has also given some prestige to theatre performances and acting as a profession. Nigerian Actors and actresses who prior to the 1980s were scorned and looked down on by many as nothing but drop outs and people with little hope for success in life now command respect locally and even globally as they are often times viewed as role models by teeming fans.

Nollywood has also balanced the World’s misguided views about Nigerians as our movies give accurate description of Nigeria and its people.

Jobs/Vacancies / Things Nigerian Job Seekers Should Have While Searching For A Job by Abujafood: 10:04am On Dec 10, 2013
One of the major problems with the typical Nigerian job seeker is being ill-equipped and prepared for the job search. The truth is that most Nigerian graduates adopt weak job search techniques and hence why in addition to being unemployable find it hard to secure jobs – in any case jobs are scarce.

But to make it easier to find employment any serious Nigerian job seeker should keep the following at the back of his/her mind;

An online Profile

In this day and age failure to have an online presence whether through social media (facebook, twitter, linkedin) or even owning a blog of your own can add some enormous amount of leverage, giving your potential employer an idea of just how productive or otherwise you are – it wouldn’t make sense to refer them to mischievous online activities. A professional online profile enables you to build a reputation online that could sell you even during a job interview.

Effective Contact list

A list of contacts made up of other serious job seekers, recruitment agencies, HR personnel in various companies, active members of professional organizations or even online communities of professionals on linkedin or facebook is an excellent way to boost your job search as many of these contacts have access to information about vacant positions. They could be your next referral for your dream job.

Additional Soft Skills

Many Nigerian job seekers have few soft skills. By soft skills we mean skills not directly connected with your job but which makes it easier to get on with colleagues and clients. Skills like excellent written and spoken skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, problem solving and so on. These soft skills happen to be a huge advantage in the job search but many Nigerian job seekers miss out on it.

Bankable work experience

The catch 22 which many Nigerian job seekers face is this – you are not likely to be employed if you have no work experience but how would you get the work experience in the first place if you’re not employed? The solution is to volunteer (work for free with relevant agencies or companies) or participate in internship programmes that will enable you acquire both skills and work experience.

Business cards

Believe it or not a business card is a respectable asset to possess as a job seeker. It not only shows you’re professional but indicates readiness to take up responsibility plus it’s an excellent branding tool. All these qualities are desirable and serious employers who note this wouldn’t mind giving you a chance to prove yourself.

Family / Traffic Jam In Abuja – The Usual Suspects by Abujafood: 9:30pm On Nov 27, 2013

Driving through some of Abuja’s busiest roads especially in the hot near skin peeling afternoon heat can be very frustrating and irritating. There are many reasons to feel this way besides the harsh weather - very annoying motorists who drive as if the road is meant for only them or the Cash carrying bullion vans that try to maneuver their way through the sea of cars waiting for the traffic lights or wardens to beckon on their end to move.

Traffic jams in Abuja happen for many reasons but these are the usual suspects in case you ever find yourself trapped in one and want to know whether to take an alternative route or wait out the traffic to flow.

Main Causes of Traffic Jams in Abuja
These are the usual suspects in case you are held up;

VIP Movement
Whenever the president, his vice or the first lady happen to be passing by, the security agents responsible for their safety won’t just offer them protection, they’ll ensure that you – the average Abuja motorist wait till the special VIP passes your route. So if you discover that vehicles are practically held up around the city gate, secretariat road or even within any of the major roads in Garki or Wuse, then there’s a good chance the president is passing by for a major engagement or is already within the vicinity. Hold your breath and be prepared to take a nap as well.

Road block/Check Point
Especially around major public holidays there is this heightened sense of vigilance by security agents as they mount check points at major roads to ‘sniff’ out potential Boko Haram terrorists who may want to forment trouble. Although since April 2012 Abuja hasn’t witnessed any terror attacks and one would wonder if the road blocks/check points are responsible for this.

Road Crashes/vehicle breakdown
When two or more cars are involved in road crashes, they’ll likely be injuries and damaged cars but also bottle necks if the road in question is narrow. Especially within Garki district around Area 10, 2 and 8, any major road crash could spell traffic jam. But also look out for heavy duty vehicles that breakdown on the highway, they often times take up a whole lane, sometimes even two.

Heavy downpour
When the heavens cry heavily, motorists thread softly on Abuja roads as visibility is often very poor and driving fast could be dangerous. The safe thing to do oftentimes is just drive with your parking lights blinking and at a slow speed which incidentally causes other motorists to slow down and lead to build up if the road is narrow or it happens to be rush hour.

Rush hour
For most Abuja commuters coming from outside the city into town e.g Kubwa-Suleja-Zuba axis or Nyanya-Maraba axis, rush hours 6 – 9 am and 6pm – 9pm always means hours moving in snail speed traffic. The mass of cars entering and leaving the city even with little street lights can mean a lot of time is spent moving in and out of the city in ‘go slow’.

If you ever get caught up in one of the Abuja traffic, look out most times it’s one of these suspects.
Travel / 5 Popular Bus Stops Within Abuja by Abujafood: 7:13pm On Nov 20, 2013
These bus stops were chosen based on how well known and strategic;

A.Y.A (Asokoro District)
When arriving Abuja from the Nyanya Axis, A.Y.A the popular bus stop in Asokoro district is the first you’ll run into this very popular and busy bus stop. It’s just adjacent the flyover bridge connecting Ecowas Secretariat with parts of Guzape district and parts of Asokoro close to the presidential villa. If you’re coming into Abuja from Lafia you must run into A.Y.A

Area 1 (Garki District)
One of the oldest and busiest bus stops in Abuja. Area 1 bus stop connects to Durumi, Garki, Galadimawa, Lugbe, Wuse and even Asokoro districts. From here you can pick a bus heading to almost any part of Abuja. But be careful when crossing the road or bridge especially during rush hours as some motorists drive recklessly.

Berger (Wuse/Utako)
It might be safe to say Berger bus stop in sandwiched between Zone 6 in Wuse district and parts of Utako. It’s a very busy bus stop which becomes a mini market at nights as traders occupy vantage positions along the road to attract pedestrians and sometimes motorists. Be on the lookout though for miscreants.

Nicon Junction (Maitama District)
On your way to Gwarinpa from Berger is Nicon junction. Named after Transcorp Hilton (formerly Nicon Hilton Hotel) it is the entry point – if you may – into Maitama district for most pedestrians or workers in Abuja who don’t own cars.

Banex (Wuse 2)

There are two axis for this bus stop. One is via cab through Wuse Market terminating at Aminu Kano Crescent directly adjacent to Banex Plaza while the other is along the highway after the Kado-Wuse 2 link bridge. If you’re looking for the easiest way to link Wuse by Public transport from Area 1, Gwarinpa or Jabi then you should know about Banex.

Adverts / Enjoy Very Tasty Chicken, Fish Grills For Your Abuja Parties In African Style by Abujafood: 12:14pm On Nov 18, 2013

When out at parties in Abuja we’d love to have very tasty grills - especially spicy chicken - made to our tastes. That explains why some people wouldn’t mind driving far into town to buy Chicken Suya or Chicken Sharwarma to serve their guests with if for anything at least the thrill of being a good host.

But you don’t have to travel far to get served very tasty grills when you can simply place a call through to a company that will show up at your party to make whatever grills you want or if you prefer delivery, it will arrive at your doorstep.

That company is UG grill a leading food brand serving some of Abuja’s best made grills in African style. They’re a team of young, vibrant and very trendy professionals who after gaining acclaim from family and friends about the excellent touch they put into making fantastic grills came together to start a business that has since gone places gaining even more recognition from far and wide within Abuja.

“We noticed that people always wanted us to prepare their grills for them and seized the opportunity when they urged us to start a business out of it” So says Oluchi Oji popularly called Lulu, the manager of this fast rising grill spot.

At various business fairs such as the Designer’s Market Place and lately Fusion Lifestyle Ug grill has made a very strong showing that has attracted friends and fans alike.

As Lulu puts it “people invite us to add colour to their events” they don’t just supply you grills but keep you entertained with cool music and Jovial staffers that keep both belly and heart in shape.

If you’re having a social event such as a pool party with a minimum of 30 guests wouldn’t it make sense to treat them to some Nkwobi or Asun? The ones the guests would delight in often turns out to be small chops; peppered gizzard and snails, grilled chicken or fish with chips, Nkwobi and the new one – Boli which is roasted plantain. These are some of the interesting meal additions you get when you have UG grill serve you some of their very excellent grills and you can have them delivered in style.

Lulu has another surprise for all Abuja foodies “palm wine”. The freshest and very best in all of Abuja if you doubt it ask for your money back anytime you’re served but the long list of DMP fans who showered accolades on them for bringing “Palmie” to Abuja know better.

In addition to all these is the highly unique peppered gizzard and tasty Boli which you’ll not easily find another of their kind in Abuja. Lulu puts it this way “some people say you haven’t tasted good coffee till you try Starbucks coffee, you haven’t tasted well made peppered gizzard or Boli in Abuja if it isn’t from UG grill”.

That must explain why at the October Edition of DMP UG grill ran out of gizzard and plantain shortly after opening for the day. The mad rush indicating how many other people missed out on a uniquely tasty experience.

It all started in April 2013 and the dream is gathering steam, providing only excellently made grills that suit your occasions and Events. UG grill is just a phone call away.

Family / 6 Of The Craziest People Who Grace Typical Abuja Weddings by Abujafood: 6:23pm On Nov 08, 2013
Abuja is a city with many fascinating twists and she’s well represented by all manner of people who love to express themselves in whatever way they can. At social events everyone comes out to experience a good time but not everyone’s wishes ever come true especially at Wedding receptions when the bride and groom with their family and well wishers are expected to grace the occasion for them.

That may be because where there are sane people they’re bound to be crazy people as well even at weddings and we have profiled 6 of these kinds.

Gate Crashers
Imagine having a wedding reception where the number of uninvited guests is more than those invited. Thanks to gate crashers this so often happens as people looking to have a good time at the expense of invited guests force their way into wedding receptions usually with the help of an invited guest. The 'gate crashers' often times turn out to be lousy and noisy – chatting away at the top of their voices or making indecent jokes – that way killing some of the fun the wedding reception is supposed to offer guests.

Free loaders
When it’s time to serve the meals or take home souvenirs this class of wedding guests make their presence felt. They won’t ask for enough, that’s not their style but more than enough of whatever gifts they can help themselves with. If each guest is expected to leave with a mug for instance, trust the freeloaders to go home with 3 or more.

The Shameless Gossips
They feast their eyes on everyone or thing that walks in. A young beautiful couple shows up and you’ll hear them talking about how so and so used to have a fling with the husband or how the wife was once jilted by her former lover. Their shameless discussion of other people’s private business is not restricted - not even in the wedding arena. Another annoying thing they do is comparing and calculating what others are wearing in monetary terms.

Life Partner Seekers
Although it makes perfect sense to socialize at a wedding reception – after all it’s a social event – most people in this class of crazy wedding guests go the extra mile. They’re looking for potential suitors and not necessarily there to celebrate with the bride and groom. When you notice a well dressed girl in high hills with a subtle but seductive aura, chances are that she’s single and hoping one guy would ‘catch her’. They could potentially be a distraction

The Show-offs
What would you call someone who on arrival at the wedding arena starts greeting people noisily and shaking almost every hand he can reach out to? A show-off especially if he’s rocking an expensive designer wear. Even the ladies do this with fake friendly banters and hugs to people they probably saw that very day but acting like they haven’t seen them in years. The show-off simply wants others to take notice of them and how well off they are.

The Gluttons
A bottle of beer for some men is just the appetizer. How about serving them 6 bottles as their normal ration for a session? Never expect the gluttons to take a reasonable amount of edibles, they’re like cows that feed without a stop button only of course till the other guests give them embarrassing looks or if the ushers refuse them any more food/drink requests.

If you are invited for a wedding in Abuja, well we guess any wedding at all be on the look-out for these peeps they won’t fail to make you regret seating close to them.

Events / What You Need To Host An Abuja Event by Abujafood: 6:44pm On Nov 05, 2013
Abuja may be the administrative capital of Nigeria but it certainly isn’t the nerve center of our economy neither is it a force to reckon with for social life at least not in the same league as Lagos. Speaking of social life Abuja doesn’t rank well for well planned events although a few events held in Abuja such as the DMP and Runway still give events held nationally a run for their money.
Many reasons could be attributed for why Abuja events fail to live up to expectations - both in terms of planning and actual attendance – the fact that it’s largely a civil service city and the high cost of socializing within the city center means only a priviledged few can afford to rock certain Abuja events.

Tips for a hosting a Successful Event in Abuja

But despite all these you can still have a memorable event people would talk about for a long time to come whether it’s your wedding reception, a school reunion, a product launch or a birthday party here are a few tips to guide you in your put in place a memorable Abuja event.

Get adequate Media Coverage and Publicity

This would largely depend on the kind of event. Obviously an event targeting family and friends such as a wedding or birthday wouldn’t really need publicity but how about a business fair or a concert? Good Media coverage usually adds credibility to an event besides also creating awareness for it. Common means for generating buzz for an event include; use of bulk SMS, radio jingles and recently social media namely; facebook, twitter and popular blogs like bellanaija and Linda Ikeji. It’s always wise to include photo sessions for posterity sake if the event is a periodical thing – monthly, quarterly, yearly etc. Media partnerships of various kinds with print and electronic media, online media or any other form of mass media could be solicited through press releases and partnership requests.

A good Event plan

A well planned Event is a science as well as an art. There are things you should and shouldn’t do during an event and these are addressed in an Events plan. It’s never easy to plan an event especially when it’s on a large scale but with a professional Abuja Events planner you’re on your way to putting in place a successfully planned and managed Event.

A good Abuja Venue

Events must happen somewhere or they won’t be events any more. The venue for an event is the most important thing to consider after the logistics of course. A poor venue naturally kills the appeal to appreciating the essence of that event. If you choose an open space for a wedding reception on a very hot Saturday afternoon you won’t be surprised if half your guests walk out less than half way through. Hence a suitable events venue is a must – one that rhymes with the theme and essence of the event.

Venue Decoration

At a corporate Event recently held at a popular Abuja hotel one noticeable thing was just how archaic the hall seemed. The venue seemed like a high school assembly hall without any decorations to give the guests an idea of what the event really wanted to capture but for sign posts and ushers who showed guests into the hall you may have thought you missed your way.

Equipment and Support Services

Things like projectors, lighting, seats, refreshments, music/entertainment, guest appearances to name a few have to be well defined and put in place. All these should be captured in the Event plan.

Family / Re: In Abuja If The Price Isn’t High, The Stuff Ain’t Fly by Abujafood: 7:09pm On Nov 01, 2013
kreami diva: My dear,u're correct.

My DH would prefer to buy clothes for his daughter in Abuja with high costs while the same clothes goes for cheaper amounts in owerri.

He says the cheaper one in owerri is the fake one. In Abuja, the cost of renting a shop is higher than the cost of renting a shop in owerri hence the need for the Abuja people to increase the prices of their goods. The cost of the shop would be included in the cost of the goods they sell.

My cousin came back from the states after ten years and wanted to register companies. He asked me how much it would cost to register a company and i stupidly quoted the normal figures (25,000 naira for 1 million naira share capital which was for all the payments i had to make at CAC )thinking i was doing my cousin a favour.

He contacted some other lawyers he knew who gave him triple the amount.(he paid 150,000 naira each for three companies of 1million naira share capital not express o. It took up to 4 weeks for his documents to be ready!) He left me and went ahead to register the company with those other guys because in his mind, for me to have given him low prices, maybe i didn't know my onions!

Tell me about it!

Abuja is the fourth most expensive city in Africa according to a recent survey of hundreds of cities globally. Funny enough, neighbouring Cities like Suleja, Keffi and Madala are far cheaper than Abuja despite their proximity so why is Abuja such an expensive city to live in?

Expensive or not Abuja has a peculiar attribute you’ll find among its residents – disdain for cheap items and love for more expensive stuff. Let’s see good examples;

First case – Rent
Within the city rents are outrageously high but very few occupants who live within high brow districts would opt for cheaper alternatives even on a platter of gold. A comic twist to rent issue is how the law of supply and demand is defied in Abuja for rents in exclusively ‘posh’ districts - less demand should mean falling prices but every year despite few tenants occupying high brow Maitama and Asokoro you still find the rents outrageously fixed at millions of naira and a few high flying folks jumping at them even when cheaper alternatives exist at Lokogoma, Kubwa or Lugbe for just several hundreds of thousands.

Second Case – Shopping Malls
With exception of Shoprite in Apo many well patronized shopping malls are more expensive than your regular supermarket. What’s so special again you may enquire? Seems the same old need to identify with a higher class drives people to places where they’ll likely spend more money than they should but hey! It’s their money isn’t it?

Third Case – Restaurants and Bars
What it costs to down a bottle of beer at a regular bar on the outskirts is N250 for a stout if however you were to have such a beer within the city center especially in an upscale bar you should expect to pay not less than N500 a bottle – same ingredients and quantity. How about restaurants that charge N3000 per plate and yet have more customers than they really need? Is it the food or simply the feel of belonging among elite diners that drives people to these places?

Fourth Case – Automobiles
How much does a second hand car cost in Abuja? Depending on grade and make a good one that wouldn’t give you headaches should start from N500’000 if you reside in Abuja whereas for as little as N400’000 you could get same car in Lagos or Lokoja but that’s not the strange part if you offered same car for sale at two different prices you’d likely find people chasing the more expensive price. Can’t understand why this is but the car dealers have no reason to complain.

Reasons for this trend
There could be several reasons to explain this;

Lots of money to spend in Abuja
There’s so much money in circulation within the city. About 60,000 families in Abuja spend more than N10 million per annum. Fact is the disposable income of many Abuja residents is relatively higher than most parts of the country hence why prices of goods seem high. But the residents may have also formed a stereotype insisting on patronizing merchants with a large overflow of customers even in spite of how much it may cost them.

Regimented City
Abuja is also organized into districts that are set apart by great distance so if you reside in say Kaura district and need to go shopping there might be only two supermarkets around your district and the ones that cost less might be a great distance away hence why people may still choose to purchase at a higher price from local stores.

City of Wannabes
But perhaps chief of all reasons would be that Abuja is a city full of fake high flying folks, people living above their means and trying to belong to a social group that indicates class and prosperity.

If you ever have anything to sell and you realize it isn’t enjoying the kind of patronage it deserves work on the ‘packaging’ which ironically also implies making it more expensive and you’d be surprised at how well received it would be - that is if you target the right market.
