The Beer Barn has grown to be arguably one of Abuja's top sports bars. The Beer Barn is located at No 72 Amino Kano Crescent, Wuse 2 - Abuja, which is a great location as it is easy to find. The Beer Barn occupies a very large space on the second floor, but also has a large balcony that acts as an extra space for mingling and lounging. The first time I stumbled into the Barn, I was surprised at how packed it was. People were everywhere, the music was so amazing I had to go and hail the DJ. The DJ was brilliant as he transitioned skilfully from some of Nigeria's hottest new tracks like Banky W's "Yes/No", Whizkid's "Beat of Life" , to major American hit tracks like Ke$ha's "Crazy Kids", and Chris Brown's "That Nigga". The crowd was a mix of young university students, a few expatriates, and young professional men and women winding down for the evening. In most Abuja restaurants and lounges you will find mounted wide screen TV's and the Beer Barn is no exception to this rule. And of course you would expect it from a Sports Bar. The Arsenal game I had missed previously was on screen, a perfect mix of socializing and catching up on my football, I had finally found my spot in Abuja. The drinks menu at the Beer Barn is rich and full of variety. It is mix of well known spirits, global beer brands and wine but what really caught my eye were the cocktails; Martini’s, Sex on the Beach, Tequila Sunrise, Bloody Mary’s ,Cosmopolitan's, and so many more. I chose the Mohito which was a refreshing mix of lime juice, mint and kick. Later on in the evening I chased it down with a Long Island Ice Tea. I particularly like the fact that all their cocktails cost just N1,300. Gwarinpa is a hilly town you’ll find along the major interstate road if you’re coming in from Gwagwalada heading towards Asokoro. It was designed to be a model city among others and so far has been meeting standard as a middle class town in Abuja. It is rapidly growing in popularity within Abuja as one of the top choices for new homeowners in Abuja. Here are a few interesting things about Gwarinpa: Houses The houses tend to be duplexes or single story buildings and they are spread across various The arrangement of houses along the road is quite unlike what you’ll find in Wuse or may be Maitama where the roads are broader and houses larger in size. Here you’ll find them facing the road directly and they’re mostly duplexes or small blocks of flats. Landmarks Some landmarks that standout are the Punk Palace - home of Charly Boy, Chambian Plaza, Drumsticks, Mr Biggs, the Gwarinpa Model Market, Gwarinpa Estate to mention a few. Pedestrian and Motorists The narrow roads might not be safe for some pedestrians who want to cross the road especially at nights. The main roads in Gwarinpa are known as 1st Avenue, 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue of which smaller roads branch out. There is no barrier in the four land carriage way and the fact that commercial tricycles popularly called Keke Napep are everywhere competing with larger vehicles for every available space on the narrow roads makes driving and walking during rush hours a dangerous feat. Social Amenities There aren’t any street lights but the roads are in excellent condition except for a few places with pot holes. Gardens and parks like the sort you would find in central Abuja are rare to find in Gwarinpa. The drainages do their job especially during rainy season as you will thankfully not find any floods on the roads. Social Life Gwarinpa has a few standard night clubs, hotels and restaurants like eetsumore restaurant and bakery which is based here. Besides commercial establishments such as banks, schools and shops which accounts for much of daytime activities, social life isn’t very pronounced. http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/abuja-places/898-gwarinpa-district-abuja.html |
Some people have said they've made staggering amounts of money online via twitter! For instance @Omojuwa made over 1 million in March 2103 via twitter through corporate promotions for brands Another lady @zegbua we met at the last #AdoptaTweep held in Abuja said she made over a million naira in December 2012 also via twitter! Many brands and businesses meanwhile are grumbling that they're far from reaching their set targets online? Join the debate: Is twitter a great marketing tool or is it just sheer luck that a few individuals have had success? Waiting eagerly for comments! |

anitank: None of you have answered the question oooThat would include you too! |
I've discovered that many people ask these questions for various reasons. They may want to know how well you value your skills or might use it as a yardstick to picking who they want eventually in case there's a close call among interviewees. But don't be afraid to ask for a reasonable amount. If you ask for too little you'll be paid little if you get the job. If you ask for too much you might be dropped. So ask for an amount that's slightly higher than the industry average. Hint: Start by knowing how much is the industry average then ask for an amount that's a little above it. e.g N60K - N70K if industry average is N50K |

For the average modern day Abuja woman mastering how to cook many African dishes is a desire which might never happen. This has nothing to do with poor cooking skills but rather the fact that learning how to prepare the cuisine of various local tribes is far from readily available. The good news is that it’s now within their reach. As an African woman preparing African delicacies rather than western cuisine is an attractive alternative to your family’s dietary needs. That informs the desire of Sweet Pots and Dim Concepts to bring to you essential culinary skills in preparing a host of African Cuisine in Abuja. Makes more sense to me to chase the one you like over the one that likes you! But it can be painful when the one you like doesn't like you back and after all your chase you're now left with one option - settle for the one you don't like - well that's if you'd rather not stay single! |

Personally I ditch any mechanic that messes up! It's always better to patronize car maintenance/repair companies rather than illiterate quacks who want to cut corners to make money from you. Many of them will steal parts from your car and replace them with faulty ones so you can always come back to repair or change one thing or the other. |
https://www.auto-insurance-knowledge.com/images/Carrental.jpg Abuja can be described as a melting pot of people settling in, stoping by, or in transit. It is one of those cities that acts as a meeting point for people from diverse backgrounds passing through the capital city. In places like this, car rental services flourish. This is because they offer comfort and convenience to visitors that need to get around the city but don't want to rely on public transport. Taking a taxi in an unfamiliar city may cause anxiety to those who are conscious of security issues, so car rental services provide a great alternative. Here in Abuja there are places where taxis are not allowed, including most hotels and government buildings. Renting a car can be a convenient transportation choice in Abuja. So how do you know which car rental company to choose? Here are 5 tips to help out: Read Car Rental Service Reviews Reviews can help you gain an insight into what to expect from a prospective car rental company. If they have poor service delivery or are too costly you’ll know once you read other customers experiences. Do they have a Functional Website? If a business or brand doesn’t have a website but serves a modern market then it isn’t an encouraging sign, especially from a customer relations perspective. How can you be convinced that this business will offer you reliable services when you can’t interface with them conveniently online? An online precedes is a necessity for all types of services especially car rental companies. Fleet of Cars It is important to preview the fleet of cars the car rental company offers. Why is this important? Because it allows you to know if their car service meets your specifications and demands. Early Bookings Just like with airline and hotel bookings, always make early reservations so that you can take advantage of great discounts that could save you money. Does the car rental company enable early reservations? Booking early for an Abuja car rental service is a smart move, as you can avoid the risk of settling for whatever car is available. The earlier you book the better service you will get. Ask the Right Questions One thing you should do before you proceed with you search for a car to rent is to ask the company the right questions. Ask them what other options they have? Do they offer any discounts/promos at the moment? Are there hidden charges with the service? Smart questions at the right time can save you from overspending and also help you in avoiding awkward situations when the bill comes. http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/bite/1183-5-useful-tips-to-rent-a-car-in-abuja-.html |
In the Civil Service that's where it's worse! To secure a job in some govt agencies you either need to know someone powerful e.g Senator, minister, DG or pay hard cash for instance: CBN - N1 million Immigration - N300K Civil Defence - N250K and so on. This is coming from some people who said they were asked to pay various amounts for Jobs into these agencies. It's well! |
If you were in a Nigerian primary/secondary school during the 90’s, then you probably came across these shortbread cookies...ring any bells yet? I ‘m still in love with these cookies, and can devour an entire packet in one day. Well, you can’t imagine how ecstatic I was when I realized that I could make my own shortbread cookies in the comfort of my home. Though, they may not look as professional as the “Walker” shortbread, they definitely taste as good and I have adapted the typical shortbread by adding some sesame seeds and “orange zest” which was used in a “shortbread wedges” recipe in one of my cookbooks. I made these shortbread cookies this Easter and I’m glad they turned out well. Believe me when I say that this is one very easy dessert to make. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare and requires little physical labour on your part. The orange zest gives the cookies a nice tangy taste that compliments the crunchy sesame seeds. INGREDIENTS 1 cup flour 1/2 cup salted butter (1 stick) 1/2 cup icing sugar 2 teaspoons grated orange/lemon zest (optional) 2 teaspoons sesame seeds/poppy seeds (optional) *If you use unsalted butter, then you can add 1/2 a teaspoon of salt* PREPARATION To get your orange zest, I would suggest using an orange that is has an orange or orange-yellow skin colour. After washing the fruit, use a grater to remove the coloured outer skin, but not the bitter inner white pith. In a cake mixer or food processor, combine the butter, flour, and icing sugar and mix until the batter forms moist clumps (you can also use your hands, which I did) Then add your grated orange zest and seeds and process/mix just for a few seconds Then using a rolling stick, roll out the dough evenly, after which you can use a cookie cutter of your choice to form cookie pieces Preheat your oven to 300-350C depending on how hot your oven can get, and then line your baking tray with parchment paper or smear some butter on the tray to prevent cookies from sticking to tray Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the cookies are set Serve with cold yogurt or iced tea . I served mine with vanilla yogurt...it was sweetly satisfying. http://www.abujafood.com/food-matters/the-recipe-book/1185--easter-menu-dessert-zesty-sesame-shortbread-cookies.html |
This is not new especially in Abuja. Notorious places where this happens include; Utako Market Area, AMAC Estate even the national assembly car park is not spared. Lesson: Don't ever leave any valuables in your car when you're out. Park close to entrance by security posts etc. More anti-car theft tips if you reside in Abuja |

(Adapted Using Abuja as background case) Many Nigerian shoppers are unified by one simple trait. They often love the finer things in life, yet paying for these items may be quite a big problem. This is because the price of goods and services in the Federal Capital are higher than in any other city in Nigeria. Traders also often times exploit buyers who may be naive about the average price of goods. Yes, shoppers in Abuja usually get served the short end of the stick. So below we would like to share a few helpful money saving tips to guide you on your Abuja shopping adventures. Watch Your Spending Limit Although this may be painful, set a maximum ceiling to your spending. This will minimize the risk of buying what you don’t need or paying more than you should. A mindset motivated by a limited spending budget always looks for the best available shopping item at the best price. Next time you are in Wuse Market or Silverbird Entertainment Center try thinking within this mindset. Depriving yourself of what you like in place of what you need is very difficult but it would help save you some extra Naira. Pick a Suitable Market Place Not all Abuja Markets or malls offer the same kind of convenience or value that various shoppers are seeking. While some shoppers may want value in terms of low prices others may want exclusivity but we’re assuming you want to save as much money as you can on your shopping experience. Therefore we recommend shops that aren’t located in expensive or exclusive parts of the city as they tend to stock more expensive items. Easy isn't it! Avoid Touts or Middlemen In some popular Abuja Open Markets especially those that deal in the sale of electronics or automobile spare parts it is not uncommon to run into touts who aggressively shove the latest Iphone or other trending gadget in your face. Don’t sucked in by the lure of an instant bargain. Never ever buy from these types of sellers because most of them unreliable as well as possibly dangerous. They just hang around pretending to have whatever it is you’re looking for while they ask you to wait so they can get it for you. What they’re doing is they move into another shop, pick up the very item you want then bring it to you at a higher price than you ought to pay. By the way there’s no warranty for such products. Haggle till you get the right price One trick we use when in the process of buying a product without a fixed price is to continue haggling until the seller becomes angry or refuses to sell. Try walking away, if the seller doesn’t call you back then you know you’ve found the real price of the item. Compare Prices Another tip for finding great prices is to visit as many shops as possible comparing prices to know which shop or store has a reasonable price. This method is quite time consuming but if the item itself is expensive and reasonable savings can be made, then an extra 30 minutes spent pounding the pavement is worth the exercise. If an expensive drink costs, for example N5,000 in one shop, another shop might be selling the same drink for N4,000 what determines price oftentimes could be cost of rent, sellers margin and age of stock. Good luck! http://www.abujafood.com/news-digest/bite/1172-5-money-saving-tips-for-the-abuja-shopper.html |

Orikinla: See the Official Top 10 Most Popular Nigerian Celebrities On Twitter on http://totnaija..com/2013/04/top-10-most-popular-nigerian.htmlHmm... So there's an official and unofficial list interesting. But you're talking of most popular not most influential judging by level of engagement the number of followers you have on twitter doesn't necessarily translate to influence, rather it's the engagement between handles and their followers that determines influence. So ask yourself does Pastor Chris, Wizkid etc have more engagement than Nasir el-rufai? |
^^^ Yeah indeed we're honored to have interviewed him! |
https://integritynigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Japheth-Omojuwa-670x4382-670x318.jpg Do you remember the Arik Air vs Omojuwa episode in 2012, Occupy Nigeria and Save Meka twitter trends? Those were Nigeria’s own version of the online social media “Arab Spring” as many Nigerians spurred on by messages they saw via @omojuwa were moved to take action that had impact which was felt nationally. Japheth Omojuwa suddenly emerged as a thought leader in Nigeria especially among the youth which in one of the reasons he is one of the most influential Nigerians on Twitter. While Japheth tries hard to deny being influential or even being a celebrity it’s quite obvious he is as he’s easily a recognizable face. Just as we started interviewing him, a few fans of Japheth stopped by to greet him and take photos with him. It was quite interesting knowing that young educated and internet savvy Nigerians can easily spot Omojuwa in a crowd that’s a privilege only celebrities enjoy. Although born into a privileged background, Japheth didn’t enjoy the life that young kids born with a silver spoon were known for rather he grew up like most of us encountering the suffering and smiling lifestyle most Nigerians are used to. Today however the story is different. Why? Because Japheth earns an eye popping income from tweeting and blogging that most people with lucrative jobs can only envy. When we pressed him to declare his earnings Japheth insisted that he’ll only give us a range in which case we’re talking of a six digit tithe payment in March 2013 meaning he must have earned at least N1 million in March alone. Between January 1 and March 21st Omojuwa had disbursed over N400,000 worth of gifts mostly recharge cards to his followers on twitter and travels abroad to speak, consult and share insights with a global audience at least once a month on the strength of his influence on young Educated Nigerians. Japheth has always been a special person judging by his antecedents which date back to his childhood years. While at King’s college in Lagos Japheth was versatile and academically sound - belonging to a number of societies such as the school’s press club, the JETS club plus being an athlete (the anchor leg) for the King’s college relay team. He was also in the football team. But he was also a very bright student earning himself an academic scholarship at king’s college for most of his secondary school years. So who is Japheth Omojuwa besides the controversial, influential, social critic and activist? “Some people say I’m controversial, others say I speak my mind, but I’m not an activist, rather just an ordinary Nigerian who’s an active citizen that cares about the future of his country and wants to make a difference”. Interesting our take on this is that Japheth is being prudent and modest. He admits to being a global citizen. Japheth is a good example of someone who creates his own success by his terms using a rather unusual occupation (blogging) which he uses to “amplify his ideas, portray Nigeria in good light”. All these has enabled him gain a respectable portfolio as a major contributor to many platforms such as the Punch News Paper, Abuja Global Shapers, Heinrich Boll Foundation among others where his ideas and contributions are greatly res. Although Japheth has a B.sc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Agriculture Abeokuta - now known as Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta - he’s a researcher on oil and gas, a publicist, public speaker and consultant. On his views about Abuja – incidentally Japheth lives in both Lagos and Abuja as he doesn’t like being in one town or city for long – he describes her as “potentially the best place to live in Africa, a carefully planned city but since the plan isn’t being followed it could be abused. But he admits that he loves “the hills, roads which are wide and beautiful plus the fact that you could easily run into powerful people anytime or anywhere within the main city”. To Japh, Abuja is a great city for a busy person to live in. His favorite hangouts include; River Plate Park, Burger Lounge plus numerous shopping options, beautiful hotels, event places to mention a few. In his spare time Japheth listens to music (all kinds), reads, loves to hang out with friends, travel and of course tweet. He is on Twitter all day engaging his very passionate and enthusiastic followers and fans. His last words for Abuja “Commit to the city as much as you want the government to, by not throwing things out of your car and complaining government isn’t doing enough to beautify the city, we have a responsibility to make the city a better place”. It was a pleasure having Japheth as our spotlight personality for the month of March 2013. We wish him success in all his endeavors. http://www.abujafood.com/people/spotlight-on/1176-japheth-omojuwa-a-blogger-making-a-difference-in-nigeria.html |
