8. The hijab should not be for fame

Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah have related the prophet to saying:

"The one who wears a garment designed for a worldly fame, Allah will make them wear a garment of humility on the Day Of Resurrection then he will be set ablaze."

The garment of fame is any garment a person wears to make themselves look famous. This applies whether the garment is highly precious and shows admiration to the life of this world or if it is chosen of a low quality to show lack of interest to this worldly life. The person may put on clothes with distinct colors so as to draw attention, act proudly and/or arrogantly.

9. Concealed ways of display

Examining the various conditions about the hijab one can clearly recognize that many of the young Muslim women are not fulfilling these conditions.

Many just take "half-way" measures, which not only mocks the community in which she lives, but also mocks the commands of Allah.

They consider what they put on now wrongly as "hijab" So, O Muslims, be mindful to Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and do not deceived by those who "bless" this action of yours and conceal their true intentions. Do not be deceived, and there is no excuse to follow the evil.

If you are sincere in achieving Al-Jannah, then be mindful of these things, insha'Allah

4. Hijab must be roomy, and not tight.

The hijab is a safeguard against fitnah. If it is tight, it will be descriptive of the woman's body and this violates and defeats the whole purpose of hijab.

5. The hijab must not be perfumed

On the authority of Ad-Diya' Al-Maqdisi, the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Any woman who perfumes herself and passes by some people that they smell her scent, then she is a Zaniyah (adulteress)."

6. The hijab shouldn't resemble the dress of a man

Imam Ahmed, an-Nasa'i reported the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to have said:
"Women who assume the manners of men are not from us and also those of men who assume the manners of women."
Abu Hurairah narrated that: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) CURSED the man who wears the dress of a woman and the woman who wears the dress of a man."

7. The hijab must not resemble the garments of the Kuffar

Abu Dawud and Ahmed have related the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"The one who take the similitude (manner) of a certain people, then he/she becomes one of them."

Abdullah bin Umar said:
"The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me wearing two garments dyed in saffron (orange), whereupon he said: these are the clothes (usually worn) by the Kuffar, so do not wear them."

Alhamdulillah,

With all due respect, this performance outfit is not the hijab that Allah has commanded the believing women.

Here are some of the conditions of the Islamic Hijab.

The Obligatory Conditions For An Islamic Hijab

1. Covering ALL Of The Body
It is an agreed position by many respected scholars that the face and hands of the woman must be covered. Some scholars say it is permissible to uncover the face and the hands of the woman as long as there is no fitnah (infatuation) caused by this action.

Two things must be taken into consideration

If she is beautiful and beautifies her face and hands with external substances, or
The society around her is corrupt where men do not lower their gaze, then it is prohibited for her to uncover her face and hands.

On the authority of the wife of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Umm Salamah said:

" When the verse was revealed that they should cast their outer garments over their bodies' was revealed, the women of Ansar came out as if they had crows over their heads by wearing outer garments.

2. The hijab must not be a display
The hijab itself must not be a display. Allah ordained it so as to cover the beauty of women and not for showing off. Allah says:
"And not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent." [Noble Quran 24:31] .

AND
"And stay in your houses and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance." [Noble Quran 33:33] .
It is in no way logical that the hijab itself be a source of display.

3. The hijab must not be transparent
The purpose of wearing hijab must be achieved. In order for the hijab to be a cover, it must not be made of transparent material making the woman covered only by name, while in reality she is naked. The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is quoted as saying:
"In the last part of my Ummah (nation of Muslims) there shall be women who would be naked in spite of being dressed, they have their hair high like the humps of the Bukht camel, curse them, for they are cursed. They will not enter Al-Jannah and would not even perceive its odor, although it's fragrance can be perceived from a distance of 500 years traveling by camel"

This indicates that a woman could cause herself a grave and destructive sin if she puts on a garment that is thin and transparent and which clearly shapes her body's features.

"Knowing" Allah can NEVER be restricted to text. Text however is FUNDAMENTAL guide

The texts are sufficient, it's our understanding of the texts that vary, and that's the reason for the variation in our knowledge of Allah.

Secondly, any gnosis or inspiration that contradicts the texts is out rightly from a misguidance from shaitan

When the shepherd chased the wolf, the wolf turned towards him and said, ''''Who will be its guard on the day of wild animals when nobody except I will be its shepherd. And while a man was driving a cow with a load on it, it turned towards him and spoke to him saying, ''''I have not been created for this purpose, but for ploughing." The people said, "Glorified be Allah." The Prophet said, "But I believe in it and so does Abu Bakr end `Umar."

Then a time will come upon the people when a group of people will wage a holy war, and it will be said, "Is there amongst you anynone who has accompanied the companions of Allah''''s Apostle?'''' They will say, ''''Yes.'''' And so victory will be bestowed on them. They will say, ''''Yes.'''' And victory will be bestowed on them."

Then Albany is free and far from the misguidance of the shia sect.

Be truthful just for once with yourself. An average 9 year old cannot be the same in body and vital female organs necessary for reproduction as an average 18 year old. If there is any, it could be maybe 1 in every 10 child. How does that 1 child now become a justification to marrying out every other 9 year old child? Because that's what your people are doing.

I must be frank with you, you submissions do not look like they are from an erudite.

As for your first point, my point is not that will she be like a 18 year old, my point is that a girl can be mature by that age.

also an eighteen year old is not like a thirty year old in maturity in any aspect.

as for your second point, you cooked up that understanding from yourself. My point is that Any woman who attains puberty and maturity is fit for marriage irrespective of her age. Isn't it possible that an 18yr old is not mature yet, will you still marry her off even if she is yet to be mature.

hibee14eve:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Among lawful things, divorce is most hated by Allah.” (Reported by Abu Dawud) The spouses should avoid divorce as much as possible. If they have difficulties and problems they should try to work out their differences and seek help from their relatives, friends or professional counselors. However, if the differences are irreconcilable then divorce is permissible, but it should be done in a decent manner.

The hadith is weak, unfortunately it's very popular among students and lecturers of Islamic studies starting from the ssce level to PhD. in fact it's like a verse of the Quran to some of them.

may Allah save us.

Of course no one loves divorce but in many cases it's the only option left after all means of reconciliation have been exhausted.

your understanding of the article is faulty!

The point of the article is that being underage or not is a function of the development of the person (male or female).

Unlike your dogmatic belief that there's an age that a person suddenly matures and attains puberty at the stroke of midnight of 18th birthday, Islam as a realistic religion observes the variation in individuals, this variation is also present from tribe to tribe.

So, the question you should be answering is 'what's your justification for the 18yr tag'?
I assure you, it's baseless, in scientifically and culturally.
Only the western dogmas swallow the crap hook line and sinker.

OAU Campus and Myopia of the Aging Detractors
Written by: Aboo Aamir Al-Atharee

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem

‘…they have hearts but cannot ponder with them, they have eyes but cannot see with them, they have ears but cannot hear with them. They are like animals, rather they are more astray. They are the unheedful.’ [7: 179]

Epilogue

Myopia is a physical ailment that affects the eyes. Its sufferer does not see except what is closer. If there is a gorge he can fall into afar, he goes ahead until he falls inside.

Speaking figuratively however, myopia is a mental aberration where its sufferer does not think deeply but very narrowly and shallowly about issues. He is fanatical, self-righteous, pompous, dictatorial, draconian, parochial, intolerant, bigoted, and unreasonable.

Any follower of the self and whims is always myopic; obeisance to self-desire is sickness.

As for the sincere follower of the Qur’aan and Sunnah, he is enlightened and cultured. He sails with the divine texts as they sail.

The Gist

Obafemi Awolowo University is one of the universities established after the independence of Nigeria. It is located in South West Nigeria where the Yorubas are largely found. In fact, Ile-Ife, the town hosting the University, according to Yoruba legends, which are largely flawed, is the origin of the Yoruba race. Yoruba, being one of the major tribes in Nigeria, is made up of different religions – Islam, Christianity and animism. There has been that age long debate that who is higher in population between the Muslims and Christians in Yoruba Land. Facts however point to the fact that the Muslims are in the majority. The major cities of Yoruba Land such as Ibadan, Oyo, Eko, Ede, Iwo, Oshogbo, Shaki, Iseyin, Ikire, Ode Omu, etc. are mainly populated by the Muslims. Islam predated Christianity in Yoruba land; only the uninformed will dispute that. The population of Muslims in Ibadan alone will swallow Ife and Ilesha combined where Christians are believed to be more.

The Muslims being referred to here is in the loose sense. We all know that the Yoruba Muslims are among the least confident about their religion this is largely due to prevalence of ignorance about the Deen from many of them.

However since the advent of Christianity in Yoruba Land, the Muslims have been in trouble in the hands of the Christians especially their narrow-minded Lagos-Ibadan press axis who take cue from the Western press agenda of painting everything about Islam and Muslims black. Till date, Muslims are derided and scorned at by the Christians. Very unfortunately, this blackmail has made many Muslims to forsake Islam for Christianity. The Christianization project of pre and post-Independence era is still being narrated by the survivors among the Muslims. How many Muslims were forced by the Ajayi Crowthers of this world, though clandestinely, to become Christians all in the name of modern education!

Those former Muslims, and those who later followed their footsteps in the 80s and 90s have become a scourge upon Islam and the Muslims.

However there were some Muslims who stood their grounds in Islam such that despite the onslaught underneath the modern education they scaled through with their Islam albeit wounded, these Muslims today themselves are a menace upon Islam and the Muslims in a way. They are mainly Muslims in names but Christian in thinking and ways of lives. Many of them seldom pray in the Muslim ways. If you see their kids you will not mistake them for Christian folks. Many of them had taken spouses from the modern Christian ladies who made sure they were religiously subjugated.

This last cadre are among the many Muslim professors and doctorate holders of today. Majority of them are worse against Islam.

This piece focuses on the shenanigans of the last set of people vis-à-vis the synergy with the other groups. One thing seems to be clear today, the three enclaves – the Xtians, apostatized Muslims and Muslim academia, now have same enemy. Their enemy is the Sunnah and those who call to it.

The Sunnah is the pristine Islam; just that.

‘They know what is manifest in the life of this world while they are unheedful about the Hereafter.’ [Q30:7]

The Setting

Obafemi Awolowo University is the setting, do not forget. What obtains there happens at virtually all the campuses in South West Nigeria with a degree of obnoxiousness from one campus to another. One of those evil places where the Muslim professors, save few, are wreaking havoc on Islam is University of Ibadan.

The Plot

The university was not established for the Muslims but it was established for Nigerians, and Muslims are among Nigerians.

All of 70s, 80s and early 90s saw a very cosmetic Islam on OAU campus. An Islam where little regards were given the ethos of the Deen. Stories were rife of Muslim brothers and sisters freely mixing and doing all sorts of ‘good things’ together. That was the era that produced the bulk of the present day Muslim professors and doctors who are at helms of Muslim affairs today on campus. So you should understand the mindset.

Late 90s and early 2000 was the turning point for Islam on OAU campus, Sunnah – the tradition of the Prophet of Islam – began to be emphasized. Muslim brothers and sisters began to be very serious and committed to Islam vis-à-vis the Sunnah. Muslim sisters began to put on big hijabs, brothers started to keep beards and disallowed their garment to trail the floor. Above all, the texts of Sunnah were being carefully studied with considerable implementation.

‘..they were youths who believed in their Lord and We increased them in guidance.’ [Q.18:13]

The Muslim professors and doctors were indecisive. They were caught unawares. They did not know what to do. Should the boys be curtailed or should they look on? The voices against the boys were soaring but there were some few voices among them that were indifferent and many times be supportive (just as it is today only that the latter dare not show an open and express support).

And when the Sunnah took a Salafee dimension. That was the climax. In the Salafee Dimension, the Sunnah is enthroned and openly preached with better implementation embraced by many students. The Salafee Dimension was a liberation of a sort – from the shackles of all manifestations of blind partisanship and unions, flawed thoughts and reasons. Many Muslim brothers and sisters underwent unprecedented transformations from lackadaisicalness to seriousness. A Muslim girl who entered the campus with mini skirt would very soon adopt the hijab and eventually the niqaab (face veil). The enemies branded that hypnotization, or on the least brainwashing. Why would a hitherto carefree person just transformed and became a religious person overnight? It puzzled them. And the wanna-be Muslim boys dropping music and social life for the Qur’aan and Sunnah. A year plus you would see him having committed the whole of the Qur’aan to memory. Something must be wrong somewhere, our professors thought.

And there was a threat against the professors, in their imagination. If the boys and the girls were not stopped at all costs, their own future was in a jeopardy. How? The boys would ‘capture’ their own sons and daughters sooner than later their sons would begin to speak the Sunnah in ‘quarters’ and their daughters would adopting the proper Islamic dress alongside the Niqaab which today is seen as a sign of backwardness.

That threat was the last straw.

Campaign of calumny and blackmailing then began. The press was brought in. Remember the first exposure by TELL Magazine in one of its editions in 2001 or 2002, ‘The Local Talibans’?! In the story, the brothers were maligned as would-be terrorists just as the Talibans of Afghanistan, not known to the detractors that the Da’wah on campus then was completely against the standpoints of the Talibans, and in extension, Al-Qaeda, just as it is today against all the false calls such as those of Boko Haram and the Muslim Brotherhood. The detractors know, especially our professors from the 1980 era, but they did not give a damn. The boys must be cut to sizes at any price.

‘They dispute it out of oppression and pride but their hearts know it reality.’ [Q.26:14].

Incidentally, the enemies at the time were multi-facet. The big brothers at the MSSN so-called higher hierarchies, Osun Area Unit and B-Zone, were becoming impatient too. The spate of the Da’wah on campus was not in tune with laws of the Federation of MSSN higher hierarchies. One of the earlier thorny issues was the Islamic Awareness Programme, yes, that same IAP that you are being criminally tagged with today. The MSSN upper hierarchy said their ‘National Assembly’ did not allow any lower unit to change a nomenclature that had been part and parcel of the MSSN. That was Jihaad Week! They said you can’t call Jihaad Week another name but Jihaad Week. The question then was: Said who? Allaah or His Messenger? And that was all.

They were told calling a programme Jihaad Week would definitely require a proof from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may the choicest benediction be upon him. The word ‘Jihaad’ is too technical to be loosely used. Agreed, it has many connotations which Da’wah is speculatively one of, but when you tag your programme ‘Jihaad Week’ you are either saying all of Jihaad is now what you do in that programme or you actually want to fight the real Jihaad. The former is more likely. The abuse of word that might arise from that informed the change in the nomenclature to a befitting and non-disputable one, Islamic Awareness Programme. But the big brothers lose their cool and became vindictive.

So it was not long after that when the alliance between our professors and the big brothers became cemented. After all, they now faced the same enemy.

Year 2001 was very interesting, according to reports. It was the beginning of the ‘battle.’ The professors (save some few) had pitched their tents against the boys. You would remember the article ‘Grasping the Burning Coal’ in An-Nur Magazine with the clear tagline, ‘…beaming the light of pristine Islam’, in its masthead.

Year 2002 (the year of this writer’s cross over from ABU Zaria) was turbulent. The leadership of the Muslim students were rejected by the professors. The selection process was not properly carried out, they alleged. So also was 2003, the leadership remained rejected. In fact that year was more turbulent. The lead story of An-Nur Magazine in that year was about that. The cover story was ‘It Has Been Turbulent.’ So came 2004 and 2005.

All the while the Da’wah moved on in the face of the attacks here and there. You would recall when it was alleged that the inner reading rooms in Awo and Faj Hall Masjids were copulation centres between unmarried brothers and sisters! Allaah’s curse upon the liars. And the eventual demolition of the inner rooms in the name of reconstructing the masjid. You would recall the ejection of the brothers from Awo Hall Masjid all this while with Daily Prayers being observed in the open field, under rain and shine, beside the Awo café.

Every year, new attempt new dimension all borne out of that disease we mentioned at the top of this write-up – myopia. In fairness to them, they thought well during the ‘Mojo Crisis’, that was the only time the professors rallied round the boys. It was a 100% gain for Islam. They would also praise the boys’ effort during the reception organized for a new professor of English Language who just had his inaugural speech. The boys were practically the ushers, servers and cleaners at the event. The Professor became one of most embittered foes afterwards when he was privileged to head a fleeting office.

Do not forget the big brothers at MSSN hierarchies. They were firing their own salvo too. The TMC guys too were raising their heads having taken Post Graduate Hall as a base. The Tijaaniyah people too were daring. Some of them would come with their ‘tesbiu’ and ‘nankali’ sheets into the Masjid to dare the consequence. The Ahmadi deviants were underground plotting. All of them against the Sunnah and its callers. The professors were in the forefront of the battle against the Sunnah.

2005, 2006 and 2007, the selection process was all inclusive. At least to douse some tension, if that was what they wanted. The big brothers would not mind to come over from all afar to attend the selection processes so also were the professors! Indeed the tension was down during the period. But that was an attempt and a ploy. One would wonder what was so special in Awo and Faj Hall Masjids that vested interest was in display.

It was always the best coming out save a regime that nearly destroyed the Salafee foundations. Well Allaah was the Best of planners. It was failure after failure for the detractors.

So it has been same thing since 2008 till date. We are in 2017, is that not? Effective seventeen years of fight between Sunnah and Bid’ah, righteousness and its opposite.

And that battle rages on. This time the detractors seem determined, but they are aging if nobody has told them.

Is either they win it now or they…

But what do they want? Return of music loving Muslim students, like those guys and girls they hurriedly showcased of recent? An end to full-Qur’aan Imaams at the Masjids; an Imaam that cannot recite Faatihah and Qul-Huwa-Llaahu properly is okay. TMC and MSSN of old can resume their feud. The Masaajid would need more ropes to tie enemies as it used to be in the past. While the university should brace up for student activists hiding under the cloak of Islam. The Shia-like protests are about to come back. Hurray! You know Muslin Leninists can be brutal, just wait and see.

Well, the matter is for Allaah to decide Here and There. They must be told that falsehood can never overpower the truth no matter how daring the former is. Let us assume they eventually succeed in their gang up against the Sunnah on OAU campus such that they stop the activities of the Sunnah there. Then is that all? Sunnah is dead in OAU and beyond, really?

‘They want to extinguish the Light of Allaah with their mouths. Allaah will indeed perfect His Light even if the unbelievers detest it.’ [Q.61:8]

By Allaah, unless they stop being myopic, they will spend the rest of their lives in pain and agony. Sunnah has come to stay. It will continue to sparkle in their faces. A time is coming, Allaah willing, when they will have no choice but to come to terms with the Sunnah, graciously or otherwise.

But it is better they take a cure for this their myopia. Once again, they should be told that they are aging. Hmm! The Honourable Scribes are writing. O Allaah we beg for Your Pardon.

Epilogue

This writer believes there can still be a proper reconciliation between the parties on the basis of Sunnah alone. Let the Sunnah be the arbiter; not the whims and desires.

As for UNIFEMGA and the other Muslim Graduate Forum, stop the lip service, be proactive and stand up for justice. All the shillyshally only portrays a feeling that the outside world has eaten some consciousness in you. You have to wake from that nap and act.

And that UNIFEMGA voice peddling those ugly lies should fear Allaah.

‘You shall die and they will die, all of you will stand before your Lord to state your disputes.’ [Q39:31]

Caveat

This writer was a student in that university between 2002 and 2008 so he is a living witness.

*DON'T DESTROY SOMEONE WITH LIES, YOU WILL BE RUINED WITH THE TRUTH (5)*

CONCLUSION

This is as much as my initial reaction to that UNIFEMGA release will be. In summary, it’s all lies and false insinuation. They made sure the MSSNOAU never got registered and registered their cronies instead. The IAP isn’t a strange programme in OAU, the Jihad Week is. The MSSNOAU has always been a peaceful group which never gets involved in protests against the school or even school politics. The UNIFEMGA as the name implies is largely made up of oldies no more in touch with present realities. As such, the bulk of OAU Muslim graduates do not associate with them. Where is the Islam in a group that should be mediating but is actually fuelling the crisis with naked lies? And all of these, dribble back to the ego of one man; the Chief Imam who pocketed the Muslim Community and UNIFEMGA save a few such that his word is law; and beguiled the MSS.

Lastly, it is my hope that I have clarified all the raised issues and will be willing to listen to any COURTEOUS fellow who needs clarifications or answers. If reconciliation is possible, no one is against that, but if it is impossible, maybe it’s time to negotiate our mutual existence. Students shouldn’t get devoured where they ought to have safety – with their elders.  Live and let’s live!  Leaving the MSSN nomenclature isn’t the issue at all since they already have a group bestowed with that by them. But can others just be allowed to exist? Why force your views on them? So to be Muslim in a university, you have to be MSSN? I don’t think even Engineer Odeyimka would say that. Innocence is found in youth as victory is found in truth!

JIHAD WEAK

The traditional programme of MSSN is Jihad Week as is widely used in various schools around the South West at least. But in 2003, the MSSNOAU branch decided to break with this tradition. With the prevailing post 9-11world and misconceptions about the Jihad word, it was changed to something more endearing and pleasing. It is silly to undermine the institution while scaring people away from the intent; to learn Islam.

So the name change to reflect what we intended – Islamic Awareness Programme (IAP). While this was being done, the bulk of the present UNIFEMGA-MC foot soldiers who still haven’t mastered English grammar (such terrible lot!) were in primary schools or even kindergartens. So when they question the IAP name not being traditional to MSSNOAU, tell them it was changed before their elder ones ever heard about OAU. So if it’s possible that someone does a 5-year course, goes to NYSC, comes back for his MSc and then his PhD and he never witnessed a Jihad Week, why is the IAP becoming a problem today? It is even on record that UNIFEMGA have in the past been part of this IAP especially the Reunion Nights and pep talks. So where is Engineer Odeyimka bringing this lie from? Sadly, lying to me gives me no problem, the only problem is I won’t ever believe you again!

One other important issue here is; is OAU the only school not ‘celebrating’ a Jihad Week? Absolutely not! Lead City University, Ibadan MSS does ‘Dawah Week’, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) does Islamic Awareness Week and so do many other schools.

So this IAP has been an annual programme and Engineer Odeyimka has actually lied by claiming it is a strange programme. The DSA, if she were competent enough should also know this. Ask even Christians and they will tell you they know no Jihad Week but IAP. The DSA in tandem with these fringe elements from the Muslim Community even illegally froze the bank accounts of the MSSNOAU. When they discovered this wouldn’t change a thing, they resorted to threats; when this failed, they resolved to lie. That is why you saw that unfortunate piece from the UNIFEMGA president. It is on record that they instigated the President of the AWOVARSITY, owner of the hall used for the said programme to write a bogus security report implicating the brothers and sisters for destruction of property.

The honourable person refused and funny thing is he is even a Christian! A professor from the Agric Engineering department has been fingered as the arrowhead of this shameful plot.

May God bless that man who stood by the truth and elevate him and his children to higher places. Even when the electricity supply to the venue was deliberately switched off, the students were still calm and conducted themselves peacefully as the school’s security operatives therein present can confirm.

CALL TO DISUNITY

This is what has been on since then till the last year when they got some willing boys registered as the new MSSN in OAU. This new MSSN was pushed through in a shadowy manner before the departure of Dr Durosinmi as DSA. Save for the letter from their “parent body” and staff advisers, there was no way they could have provided all the other things needed for registration.

Documents like the secretarial reports of the last Annual General Meeting and Financial Statements, and names with details of members could never have been submitted by the group. But the rigmarole was set into position. In a single incident, Nigeria’s future and even today was once again sold out by the unexpected twins of academia and religion! This small band which has been predictably bootlickers have grandstanded before their paymasters that they have the students with them, but this fraud that has seen their UNIFEMGA paymasters shower them with unaccounted cash is becoming clearer by the day. Hence this desperation to by any means hang the dog! Interestingly, these foot soldiers who have been operating on Radio Biafra as they can’t even step in the hall mosques have been chastised for failing to attract any crowd to their failed programmes.

It is on record that the Jihad Week of this group even with all the money spent by UNIFEMGA had ridiculously low attendance while the Islamic Awareness Programme they badmouthed was a huge success in terms of crowd, acceptance and resource persons.

THIS SESSION AND ITS MANY ILL FIRSTS

This new session has witnessed unprecedented events in the annals of OAU Muslims. It started out with an orientation programme by this group for themselves as students shunned their programme. Inevitably, for the first time; there were two different Muslim Freshmen Orientation programmes. Then the Imam with the support of the MSS tried to announce his new executives. This brought back the 2010 memories as the shout of No! No! by the students infuriated the Imam to such an extent that he proceeded to grab another brother by the scruff of his neck. The video of this unfortunate incident even made it to YouTube. The next line of action was worse; the new DSA, Dr Akinola was dragged into the scene. She made a lowly release which should never come from the most unprofessional of administrators and got it reported in some newspapers. She alleged Boko Haram like links, called a group of more than 5000 members an unpopular splinter group, and in a way never expected of an African mother, deliberately lied and called the sisters prostitutes. Interestingly, she was hailed on by the MSS, UNIFEMGA and the Muslim Staff community whose bidding she was doing. Note that by the Muslim (Staff) community, we mean a small but powerful clique that has hijacked the noble body for its own ulterior motives.

There are still many upright members of that community, just as in UNIFEMGA also who do not have a say in how things proceed. Dr (Mrs) Akinola, a wife to Professor Akinola, a respected activist and pastor is such a willing tool in the hands of Imam Sanusi such that you have to wonder what the connection is. Well, the fact is the DSA is Professor Sanusi’s patient at the OAU Teaching Hospital. So it doesn’t get any easier to manipulate the woman.

Together, they tried to forcefully close down the students’ mosques and this was again resisted by the students. This is the type of man the Imam is! He wouldn’t care if the mosques were shut, as he didn’t care when sisters in veil were forced out of OAU and those around are/were harassed. The same way UNIFEMGA and the rest do not care if their recent false accusations end up giving their adversaries scarred lives behind bars, loss of studentship (which they are currently pushing for) or death (when you impugn terrorism on one today, it’s akin to murder). So a Jihad Week programme held this year and it also was the first time that two different such programmes will hold. UNIFEMGA and co are really having a success breaking the ranks of the Muslims. Now, a little about the Jihad Week.

DID MSSNOAU DECIDE NOT TO REGISTER?

Acting on instructions, Dr (Mrs) Lateefat Durosinmi, the then Dean of Students’ Affairs used every machination to prevent the MSSN registering on campus. She came up with a denigrating law prohibiting registration for any society without an approval letter from its parent body. What is this about? Dr Durosinmi is the wife of Professor Muiz Durosinmi, a past chairman of the Muslim Community who himself was handpicked by the Chief Imam in a bid to oust the eminent geologist Professor M. AbdulRahman who was always sympathetic to the cause of the students. Dr (Mrs) Durosinmi, herself a high ranking member of the Muslim Staff Community knew of some intractable disagreements between the MSSNOAU and the broader MSS.

In collusion, the MSS and the Muslim Staff body (which should read Imam Sanusi) decided they wouldn’t give this letter of approval.

The DSA even circulated a release around school warning new students off the MSSNOAU. As it has become tradition, they were doing the jobs of islamophobes while wearing the garbs of Muslims! And when they talk about the MSSNOAU not being registered, this is what happened. They deceitfully don’t ever paint the full picture that we tried over and over to register but this new ‘decree’ that was never applied to anyone before or after us was the albatross. Note for the sake of brevity that our issue with the larger MSS was in one word; INDEPENDENCE, and if in two words; INDEPENDENT THOUGHTS!

What sort of university students look on as some non-students (that is what these MSSN careerists actually are, people who are already grannies who for the quest for leadership have for decades stuck to MSSN; Muslim STUDENTS Society of Nigeria! Grand Students!) condescendingly kick them about even against established religious dictates? They would restrict your resource persons to only those who subscribe to their ideas; they would at their own whims throw off basic religious principles for those of their leaders.

While religious tenets may be open to different interpretations, bidding to restrict everyone to your own declared thought is anathema to sound reasoning, upward mobility and progressive thoughts which should be the hallmark of young vibrant university students. This rejection of these debilitating thoughts is what has brought the strange bed fellows of the MSS and the OAU Muslim Staff together to fight a common enemy; kids they should be fathers and mothers to but have decided to make adversaries of!

It has been brought to my notice a press release issued by the president of the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) about some supposed “recalcitrant group” “usurping” the name of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria on the OAU campus. In the said release, he would go on to make damning accusations about the conducts of this group bordering on instigating violence and even failed veiled attempts at religious extremism and terror potentials.

As someone who knows the issue at stake inside out, I have to clearly state that the said release in full of lies and innuendoes. The only use I can possibly find for it is as an instructional material on ‘How Not to Lie’. While that has not a bit surprised me, I have to admit that I marveled at the kind of father who would put such weighty lies on kids who by providence interestingly are of the same age as his own children. People who shoot arrows into the sky and cower under the mortar should remember they have children out there in the wild too. Given the present Nigerian situation viz the unholy acts of some supposed Muslims, one would expect a reasonably constructive address of such personal problems turned societal as this MSSNOAU issue. I call this personal knowing all that I know that at the base of this issue is the ego of just one individual; the Chief Imam of OAU Central Mosque, Professor Abubakar Abefe Sanusi.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
I really don’t know how to make this brief but I’ll try. The genesis of this issue is difficult to put a date to but we all agree it goes back to around year 2000 as a conservative estimate. As old-young relationships are, the students had some fall-outs with the lecturers and the scope of the trouble got escalated when the students quite correctly felt let down by the chief Imam in a case they had against the school authority. This was the case of Muslim sisters using the face veil. The then Vice Chancellor, the revered Professor Roger Makanjuola would later allude to this fact vindicating the students in his memoir “Water Must Flow Uphill”.

And in a bizarre manner, I watched the chief Imam literally beat his chest inside the Awolowo Hall mosque that he instigated the niqab ban “because you disobeyed me!” You see my point about a personal problem? This problem, wherever it heads or ends, is a product of the ego of this Professor Abubakar Sanusi.

2003 – 2010
Now how did we get here? Following the great upheaval that followed this into 2003, 2004, a reconciliation committee was set up comprising the students, the Muslim staff, the broader MSS and UNIFEMGA. The committee looked at the selection of executives which had by then become another sing-song on the lips of the imam. They resolved to select the executives together with a mandate that subsequent ones shall be selected by the students with the Muslim staff community and MSS as observers in order to ensure transparency and equity. This became the tradition and there was never a problem with this until the year 2010 when the imam’s ego hit new heights. This time, he would no longer be an observer; he wanted to be the head of the shuurah (the selection committee). Not only that, he would reserve the right to select or deselect anyone he so wishes.

The intent behind this laughable suggestion did not take much time to manifest; he would later select a parallel executive council filled with names of the children of his cronies and other members of staff plus some unfortunate ones. This same year, after prayers at the OAU central mosque, he pronounced the MSSNOAU proscribed in a bizarre tale that didn’t end till he physically assaulted Mutiu Jimoh for daring to ask a question. So much for an Imam fighting in the house of Allaah!

The other major events of that year included his announcement of a set of executives at a shameful ceremony at the central mosque wherein the announcement was roundly booed by the vast majority of students. This majority has however ever since been referred to clandestinely as a “splinter group”. Note that the MSSN people were on ground that day even though they have many times denied this implicative fact.

The imam would also later lead his selected Imam into Fajuyi and Awolowo Hall mosques one night and crudely instruct him to lead prayers. This was also resisted by the students and they both left in ignominy. At that point, this new battle line became bolder.

AbdelKabir:

actually in the deen of Allâh, what anyone thinks about it is of no importance, its a deen that has chains of transmission down to the prophet himself, so its a done deal and a personal opinion does not matter, except in rare cases(and its given by qualified scholars – ijtihad)

what else is there to expatiate other than the clear words of the prophet “Shave all of it or leave all of it.”
quoted plus the explanation of the scholars in the OP? Al-halaal bayyin wal haraam bayyin, the permissible matters are clear and the prohibited matters are clear.

Actually, I copied the article from the link I posted.
Though I read it before posting but I don't know how I didn't notice that part.
I wouldn't have written that if it's my article because of the kind of platform and society I am.

However I will like to emphasize the authenticity of the statement because it's the Christians who started it even in Nigeria, and it's popular with the Christians especially the pastors. it's even kinda of a pastor haircut so to say. The Muslims who do it are being dogmatic.

I don't mean any offense against anyone but the fact has to be said even if some people will be bittered by it.

@Empiree, the only point worth replying is the last.

Dhikr are of two groups:

# Restricted Dhikr: these are those that Allah has ordered that they be said at specific place, time, manner, situation and a specific number. Examples are the dhikr of sujood, rukoo, entering and leaving the toilet, home, mosque, dhikr of morning and evening, when the wind blows, when the thunder strikes, when the rain falls etc.
One has no right to increase or reduce their number. Also, we have no right to attribute a specific number, time, manner or place etc to any o these restricted type of dhikr except with evidence.

Benefit: there's no authentic narration that says that any dhikr of this category is more than 100 times . So if anyone says say the dhikr 200times, it's out rightly an innovation.

# The second category is the dhikr that Allah and His messenger alyhissolaat wassalaam didn't give any restrictions, one should not restrict it rather he should say as much as is easy for him such as saying astaghfiruLLaah, subhanaLLaah, AlhamduliLlah, Allahu Akbar etc The true believer and devoted one is the one who fills all hi free time with this type of dhikr.

The saying of sadaqaLLaahul Azeem falls under the first category because it is restricted to when finishes the recitation of the Quran or a session of recitation, and Allah and His messenger alyhissolaat wassalaam gave not ordered us to do that.

It's not the meaning of the statement that has problem, it's the application.

well, since you chose to get involved, how about you answer this:

"Quran Competetion" is a worldwide program in Muslim world. It was started by a Malaysian in the 60s. Saudis do organize it these days but there is no daleel for it but if you have one kindly post it from Quran and sunnah.

So my question is, Saudis do it s well they are innovators or not like those who say "sadaqaAllah azeem"?.

They are completely different, it's only a person who is completely ignorant of Usool fiqh that will be confused by such.

The competition falls under what is called Masaalihul mursalah -if you've ever heard that- just like the compilation of the Quran, Hadith, the building of madrasah, the breaking of knowledge into several fields, the building of Madrasah etc.

The saying of sodaqallahul Azeez is a dhikr attributed to a specific event. Attributing a dhikr to a specific time, place or event is an act of legislation that only Allah has the right to.

So, this is one thing and that is another, don't get them mixed up. See Imam Shaatibiy's book al-Muwaafaqaat for details and further clarification.
