PoliticsRe: At What Point Does A Nation Lose Her Moral Right To Imprison Offenders? by ACM10:
ndu_chucks: @OP,sir, your epistle is a few years too late. Why did you not ask this question before the amnesty given to MEND and the youths of SS region?

The truth of the matter is that the amnesty program which was implemented in the SS, in favour of MEND, is a great success, by any measure. It significantly reduced the killings, kidnappings, and negative economic impacts. It is time to support the President in his latest effort at resolving the Boko Haram issue. I fully expect your support.
This is one of the problem with Nigerians. Mention one country in the world apart from Nigeria that grants amnesty to terrorists and capital offenders? The truth is that Nigeria is a nation of impunity, petty thieves are given maximum sentence while the real offender are given national merit awards. How long do you think that we should continue down this road? With the introduction of the dangerous dimension of tribalism, I wonder if there will ever be a respite. I think that Boko haram went too far and they should be used to set a precedence. Anyone who thinks that amnesty will solve the Boko haram problem must be living in a world of fantasy.

Hope this dude is seriously saving now. Hope he will not start requesting for government help decades from now or bemoan Nigerians for abandoning him to the life of poverty and misery. I will spit on him if he ever accuses Nigerians of abandonment. He should be wise now, get a financial advisor and plan for life ahead. Nigerians will surely get tired of his brand of music someday, especially when a new act comes up. lipsrsealed

Katsumoto: Mods

I have a suggestion to reduce the number of e-wars in this section.

Stop sending threads that have relationships with ethnic groups or champions to the front page. If you can, don't select any politics section threads for the front page.

The topic below should be the sort of topic from this section which should be on the front page.

For the first time, I'm endorsing your comment.

Yea, BUY signal on my 4Hrs period. Though it's too risky to enter now, unless you plan to use a wide stop loss.

Most brokers allows most trades to exceed one minute. Maybe you are scalping. In that case, beat them in their own game by making use trailing stop.

This thread must hit frontpage. It will be injustice if it doesn't. Similar thread that disparages the person of late Prof. Achebe made it to frontpage. So I expect this one to be pushed to frontpage to balance out.

PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 12:00pm On Mar 29, 2013
ACM10: Why are you playing hide-n-seek game? You boldly stated that 90% of Aburi provisions were promulgated. Then I requested for the copy of the Aburi accord with which you arrived at that figure. Many agreements were left out in my copy, while others were watered down to the level that will be unacceptable to the other party.

Sometimes it can be frustrating debating with you, especially whenever you starts to play your hide-n-seek game. No need to respond to you again if you do not produce your copy of Aburi agreement or show us how you got your ridiculous figure of 90% honoured and 10% rejected.
Katsumoto I'm still waiting for you to provide evidence to back your 90% and 10% claims. Otherwise, I will regard it as a spurious claim. Please be fast! Let's move on from there to the main issue which is Aburi agreement.
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 7:15am On Mar 29, 2013
Katsumoto: So there are different versions of the Aburi accord? grin
Why are you playing hide-n-seek game? You boldly stated that 90% of Aburi provisions were promulgated. Then I requested for the copy of the Aburi accord with which you arrived at that figure. Many agreements were left out in my copy, while others were watered down to the level that will be unacceptable to the other party.

PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10:
Katsumoto: It has been almost 20 hours, yet no Biafran can articulate the provisions of Aburi that were not addressed by Gowon's Decree 8 of 1967. After 45 years of blaming Gowon for the Civil war, Biafrans should know the provisions of Aburi by heart.

All they have been pointing out is that not all provisions from Aburi were implemented. Gowon, from a position of strength, acceded to most of Ojukwu's demands. Yet Ojukwu, from a position of weakness, rejected approximately 90% of his demands to hold out for 10% (HOS not having the power to fire regional governors). And in the process millions of people died with Ojukwu escaping to avoid capture. Biafrans need some deep introspection.
I wanted to leave this thread, but your wild claims keep drawing me back. You made a claim yesterday that all Aburi provisions but one were honoured by Gowon. I asked you to produce the Aburi agreement in your possession , for us to analyze the provisions that were honoured and the ones that were left out. So far, you've not produced any.

You keep regurgitating the internet claims without any proof to back it up. If I may ask you, how did you arrive at 90% and 10%. At your level, I expect you to read internet write-ups like a critic, but all you do is to swallow every internet claims hook, line and sinker. Have you ever bothered to research if those claims from your sources are based on truism?

I pledged within myself to let you be on this thread, but I feel that the first bolded is an indirect jab at me, thereby necessitating my response.

I'm back from work and ready to have a debate with you on Aburi provisions that were honoured and the ones that were left out/watered down if need be.

Katsumoto: Soon I will adopt Sagamite's policy of dealing with idiots when I address you.

Find the provisions that weren't implemented or sod off. This is my last response to you. You don't have the faculty to engage in stimulating debate yet you want to be at the forefront.
I always treat you with respect. Hope it will continue that way?
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 10:36pm On Mar 27, 2013
Katsumoto: Dude,

The onus is always on the person making the charge. What school did you attend?

If Ojukwu accuses Gowon of not implementing the Aburi accord, Gowon would reply that he implemented decree 8. It is then left for Ojukwu to point out which provisions were left out. You have to tell us what was not implemented.

The problem here is that most Igbo sons shout about Aburi but they don't even know what Aburi is about. Can an Igbo son state what wasn't implemented as part of Decree 8 1967?
@Bolded. . .is it really necessary?

@others. . .were you taught in your school to make a bold declaration without having all the facts available on the ground? Why should I be the one to do your homework for you? I gave you an option of sharing your work with you by producing the Aburi agreement in my possession after you have produced yours. But all you want is for us to swallow your conjecture without questioning it.
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 10:28pm On Mar 27, 2013
Katsumoto: Please read decree 8 that I provided. Regional governments had the powers which they had before Ironsi's unification decree.
Why are you like this? Are you mischievous in real life?
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 10:24pm On Mar 27, 2013
Andre Uweh: The issue of conferderation was not implemented and Gowon did not show signs of implementing it.
Ojukwu did not go to war as he did not declare any war. Biafra was attacked, first by Shuwa of the fiorst division. Biafra defendeded her territories
Mr Andre, don't jump the gun. Let's take it gradually.
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 10:23pm On Mar 27, 2013
Katsumoto: You chaps keep shouting Aburi accord. I have provided decree 8 which was to address Aburi, please intimate us of the Aburi provisions which were not implemented.
How sure are you that decree 8 addressed Aburi agreement? If you are convinced within yourself that Aburi agreement was sufficiently addressed, then provide the full agreement and I will provide the one in my possession for us to analyze. Let's place your comment on the truth-o-meter.

Katsumoto: Please tell us which ones were not honoured. We are all here to learn. I have stated what I believe to have been left out.
By stating the one which was not honoured, you must have been in possession of the full agreement. Don't say "I believe" bro. The agreement were either honoured or not. There can be no in-between.
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 10:01pm On Mar 27, 2013

Exactly! that's why I frown at people who distort facts.

Katsumoto: Don't be silly, I said Awo's feelings were not relevant to the question Joeyfire posed. What is the relevance of Awo to any coup in 1966?

If you think that Awo's feelings are relevant, then elucidate further.
Stop speaking grammar. I believe that my question is clear enough. But pls don't use foul language on me or else. . .
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 9:55pm On Mar 27, 2013
@Katsumoto,

Would you want us to analyze the contents of the Aburi accord to see the agreements which were honoured and the ones which were not?
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 9:48pm On Mar 27, 2013
Katsumoto: Oh lord. Why must one have to explain everything?

Of what use is Awo's sympathies for the plotters if Awo was not in the military? Would Murtala have installed Awo as head of the military government?

I was responding to Joeyfire's comment that Gowon was not the most senior officer at the time of the coup. Murtala would not have executed a coup to install Ogundipe, Ojukwu, Ejoor, Adebayo, Njoku just because they were his seniors in rank. Gowon was accepted to the plotters because he was a Northerner.
Don't give me an impression that you are shying away from my question. According to you, Awo was not sympathetic to the cause of the coupists. I would want to accept that, but I want you to convince me with your evidence(s).
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 9:43pm On Mar 27, 2013
dayokanu: Someone who possibly didnt know about any coup until he was released and two coups have taken place would be sympathetic to which one?
You failed to answer my question. What evidence(s) does Katsumoto have to state boldly that Awolowo was not sympathetic to the cause of the coupists?
PoliticsRe: Why Gowon Can't Write His Memoir by ACM10: 9:40pm On Mar 27, 2013
Katsumoto: Ojukwu planned for war, he just didn't plan adequately. Did Ojukwu not utter these words - "on the specific question of whether there is a possibility of contact with the North, the answer is at the battlefield". Pre-1967, was there any nation that achieved independence without negotiation or force? Why would Ojukwu think that secession would not result in military action?
If he actually made that comment, you have to take into cognisance the time, context and the prevailing circumstance of the period.

Gowon did implement the agreements at Aburi except the requirement from Ojukwu that the Regional Governors could not be fired by the Head of State. Ojukwu calculated that Gowon would fire him once the agreement was in place and preferred to go to war for that. Even the American diplomats praised Gowon for the extents he went in implementing the Aburi accord. Before the January coup, each region was able to elect its governor. Now when Ironsi appointed Ojukwu, why didn't Ojukwu insist on the people voting for their governor? If Ojukwu could be appointed by a military head of state, why should he insist on not being fired by a military head of state?
C'mon Gowon did not implement the Aburi agreement, Why is it hard for you to say things the way it is?
