The truth of the matter is that the amnesty program which was implemented in the SS, in favour of MEND, is a great success, by any measure. It significantly reduced the killings, kidnappings, and negative economic impacts. It is time to support the President in his latest effort at resolving the Boko Haram issue. I fully expect your support.

ACM10: Why are you playing hide-n-seek game? You boldly stated that 90% of Aburi provisions were promulgated. Then I requested for the copy of the Aburi accord with which you arrived at that figure. Many agreements were left out in my copy, while others were watered down to the level that will be unacceptable to the other party.

Sometimes it can be frustrating debating with you, especially whenever you starts to play your hide-n-seek game. No need to respond to you again if you do not produce your copy of Aburi agreement or show us how you got your ridiculous figure of 90% honoured and 10% rejected.

All they have been pointing out is that not all provisions from Aburi were implemented. Gowon, from a position of strength, acceded to most of Ojukwu's demands. Yet Ojukwu, from a position of weakness, rejected approximately 90% of his demands to hold out for 10% (HOS not having the power to fire regional governors). And in the process millions of people died with Ojukwu escaping to avoid capture. Biafrans need some deep introspection.

If Ojukwu accuses Gowon of not implementing the Aburi accord, Gowon would reply that he implemented decree 8. It is then left for Ojukwu to point out which provisions were left out. You have to tell us what was not implemented.

The problem here is that most Igbo sons shout about Aburi but they don't even know what Aburi is about. Can an Igbo son state what wasn't implemented as part of Decree 8 1967?

Of what use is Awo's sympathies for the plotters if Awo was not in the military? Would Murtala have installed Awo as head of the military government?

I was responding to Joeyfire's comment that Gowon was not the most senior officer at the time of the coup. Murtala would not have executed a coup to install Ogundipe, Ojukwu, Ejoor, Adebayo, Njoku just because they were his seniors in rank. Gowon was accepted to the plotters because he was a Northerner.

Katsumoto: Ojukwu planned for war, he just didn't plan adequately. Did Ojukwu not utter these words - "on the specific question of whether there is a possibility of contact with the North, the answer is at the battlefield". Pre-1967, was there any nation that achieved independence without negotiation or force? Why would Ojukwu think that secession would not result in military action?

Gowon did implement the agreements at Aburi except the requirement from Ojukwu that the Regional Governors could not be fired by the Head of State. Ojukwu calculated that Gowon would fire him once the agreement was in place and preferred to go to war for that. Even the American diplomats praised Gowon for the extents he went in implementing the Aburi accord. Before the January coup, each region was able to elect its governor. Now when Ironsi appointed Ojukwu, why didn't Ojukwu insist on the people voting for their governor? If Ojukwu could be appointed by a military head of state, why should he insist on not being fired by a military head of state?
