Illegal firearms are more common in South Africa than you actually think, you can even rent one for a crime or buy an AK47 from Mozambicans for a price of a sneaker (there're documentaries about that). Yes you're right about other objects being used for murder in the continent, a good number of murders around the country are committed with sharp objects. However, those happen mostly in informal settlements around drinking spots.

Interesting statistic. People have always believed that South Africa had the highest gun murder rate in the world.


It's now official, South Africa is even safer than the US.

The train with the fastest speed currently in Africa is 160 Km/hr, I haven't seen any fabrication, and that is what Nigeria is getting, until trains with higher speeds start arriving, it remains the fastest train in Africa.

First, Algeria and South Africa have trains that are currently doing 160km/h. Morocco has built and is now testing their 300km/h train. Now for someone to say "we will have the fastest train in Africa" at 160km/h is totally stupid when it doesn't even break the record of existing ones while it's even further behind a new one that's already going through tests.

This is a common trait displayed by some people in this very thread who often come with "we have the biggest, largest, best in Africa" talk. So that is why I asked if it's a national thing not to bother yourself with facts.

Don't think African Warrior was set out to replace our current S2000 Pattern or our webbing for that matter, for the most part the project is set out to upgrade the R4(Possibly a replacement),Modifying the kit to suit Women, surveillance systems, Upgrading of the command and control system and in the last phase an integrated helmet system!

New patterns and webbings we discussed, maybe not with African Warrior but it's along the same lines.

Is fabrication of facts a national thing? On my feeds this morning is a claim that "Nigeria will have the fastest train in Africa"... Upon reading the article it states that at 160km/h it will be the fastest train on the continent. WTF, no one researches in the land of the eagle.

Rooikat's main mission is reconnaissance. The biggest reason for its mobility was to run away from tanks, not take them on directly. The suspension system and drivetrain were more important than the gun.
Make contact with the enemy to fix his position and then retreat and let the G-5's and Airforce do their job. Also for doing probing attacks for various reasons like gauging enemy strength to find weaknesses in their defensive lines. Same with the Eland it replaced.

Ratel 90 was the fire support vehicle for mechanised formations in the SADF. We did train with Rooikat in that role during manoeuvres though.
Ratel 90 and Eland 90 contacts with tanks in Angola was not how we were supposed to fight. It was done out of necessity. The terrain was also a bit of an equaliser. You never take on tanks with armoured cars if you can avoid it, no matter how big your gun is.

I personally remember them as kids, we called them the "Stabilities" . They had light blue Inyalas for patrols during and after the elections. I remember it (the Nyala) passing by street with both doors open and I thought what a cool vehicle, you could literally go through it. (of course it was my first time seeing one).

There's a project to replace the Rooikat.

It was never a tank destroyer. The gun on the Rooikat will be effective against many targets found in SSA like technicals, IFVs, APCs etc.

upgrading to 105mm will increase the tail. Remember ops are planned around logistics. A 105mm round means the vehicle will carry less ammunition this equates to more support vehicles. An upgrade should be the proposed hybrid drive and maybe new ammunition specifically for fire support against dismounted infantry.


Focus should be on a new Main battle tank(120mm or plus gun).

So there's a planned Rooikat replacement? I thought the Army was on "we don't buy anything anymore" mode.... If they have money to spare then how about they go back to the CSIR and finish up the African Warrior programme and get us some new patterns and some 21 century webbings.

Actually it wasn't just a scout, Elands did that perfectly. It was also for selectively destroying enemy armour behind enemy lines then hit the dust back to the safe zone.

The 76 is no longer powerful enough against modern armour that's why the SANDF downgraded the Rooikat 76 to a fire support vehicle not the tank destroyer it was initially designed to be. If you had to take it to a modern conventional war then the 105 is the way to go.

Not uncommon for the era.

The Rhodesian army, for example, was majority black for allmost the entirety of the war and if you excluded conscripts the old SADF had a major component of black soldiers. The number 40% sticks in my head for some reason.

As for the police, they too had huge black, indian and colored components. Jacob Zuma's father was an Apartheid era policeman.

I wanted to give him a reason but I deleted it....


Anyways, when joining the military you think about your personal decision internal politics don't feature. As much as their own black people served under the British.

I love it for so many reasons, the way the SANDF secures their helmets when they arent wearing it is unique and kinda old school, her Pat83 webbing is full of gear - which is great, because Pat83 can be very ugly when loose and baggy, then there is the way she is holding her R4 and finally, its a chick but she manages to have a great military bearing

Didn't you read the scholarly lecture from Nigeria's Chief of Air Staff? Or as usual u turn a blind eye. Save for air-air refueling, Nigeria still has force projection capabilities even to SA if there is a peculiar need as in the case of Gambia despite heavy involvement on the home front. Money is not our problem. Fuel is not our problem. We have shown capacity and strike capability in the past, in the present and if need be in the future. That's a fact validated by NAF as I've alluded here many times that the Nigerian Air Force can deploy on multiple centers of war.

Nigeria is a federation with nigh-independent governing entities of the centre in Abuja with full paraphernalia of office and budgets at it's own discretion. Yours is a unitary system whose revenues, budgets and administration are centralized. Nigeria's informal output alone trumps your whole economy by the billions. Understand that our formal economy is by far larger than yours and Nigeria's economy alone will total about 50% of Africa's output in some 20 years on present trajectory. That's the reality and would be reality. Nigeria is beyond your matrix of power. Don't compare us ok! We have challenges, but so do others. We don't share potentials. Never will.

No china, Zimbabwe will have a GDP half of all Africa combined. It will be so because I say so.

Anyways it's a know fact that the Nigeria government is less efficient in collecting tax. There's not much big companies in Nigeria which are big tax contributors.

That simply means the figures do not represent facts.

Same as South Africa, municipal generated capital has not been taken into consideration.
