South Africa has the 36th largest budget in the world where Nigeria is ranked 8th. You littraly can not match the raw spending power of South Africa if South Africa wanted to throw every thing In to defence

but its an advantage in flat terrains and desert like in algerians territory and borders wink

from wiki :
for Abrams Height 2,44 m
fot T90 Height 2,22 m only 20 cm difference
Yeah, low profiles are useful in open fields as you become a smaller target to hit.. In the bushvelds, 2,22m is not high enough. A Ratel is almost 3 metres for reference.

"I really couldn't care less about South Africa blah blah blah....."

That's what his response will be. Meanwhile he cared enough at the time to make a nice bold post about Biro, claiming how we can put the matter to rest. But we'll have to wait and see, perhaps JF-17 isn't cancelled.
For everyone' sake it better be coming otherwise someone here might commit suicide.

The day it comes we should prepare ourselves for an FJ-17 post in every 2 posts, which is no harm BTW.

The numbers are crushing. Sadly with a low profile, you won't see much in the southern African bush.

I've lost all hope.

I'm no longer borthered with how the situation develops.

Did the minister even mention the Mig-29 at all? He only really spoke about the Yak in passing terms.

If you have a link please post.

There's a very simple answer that some will find difficult to swallow. Its easy making nice drawings, but something completely different when it comes to fabrication. Drawing is nice, actually making is not so easy.
With my limited CAD knowledge dictates you design a product you can actually fabricate. Looking at the ARA CAD I see that they could have actually produced the vehicle simply because they used edged angles which are easier to produce if your fabrication knowledge is still limited.

They made errors by placing the wheels just below the hull when they could have been at least 50cm further on the sides. That would have afforded them space to place the compartments above the wheels.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ActivateKruger: 10:49pm On Sep 24, 2017
You know, I have been studying the ARA original design vs the actual product (because GreenandGold had been posting his modifications).

I wonder how Proforce managed not to stay true to their own CAD designs.

You just had to drag Nigeria into your daft argument, The amount NAF spends on Jet ful per month alone is enough to cover the cost of any SAAF and NAF friendly exercise.

It’ll be wiser to say we don’t have a requirement for such exercises, or just occupied with the war on terror.

I mean who are you to say what Nigeria can and cannot afford undecided
He clearly said "for example". Anyways Henry was the one who jumped in on the conversation.

You don't even know what you're saying, and you expect a reply. You just want to talk for the sake of talking, probably to try impress people here.

Any exercise is conducted with certain goals. If one of those goals is to expose your pilots to real world situations, real world opponents using the best equipment they can use against you (within limits of OpSec)...what value will be gained putting Gripen against Zimbabwean Hawk for example?

South Africa plans to host Exercise Lion Effort 2018, which will hopefully see a host of Gripen users come to our shores next year.
Exactly what he should understand

There's no point in doing airforce exercises with countries like Angola, you're not helping the SAAF pilots but you're only helping the Angolans instead.

answer the question, because we all know that south africa gripen jets have never undertaken any dogfight training exercises with a foreign air force in south Africa or foreign country grin grin grin grin
Without an ability to refuel the SAAF Gripen in the air then you'll know how expensive it would get to fly beyond SADC. The DoD is operating under a shoestring budget so the Air Force can't afford such extravagants.

According to CNN, the Navy Super Hornet locked onto the Su-22 Fitter at a range of 1.5 miles. The Super Hornet launched an AIM-9X, and the Syrian pilot loosed flares to lure the infrared guided missile away from his fighter. The trick worked, and the American missile missed. The Super Hornet then launched an AMRAAM missile which, using radar guidance, is unaffected by flares. This time the Fitter went down.
The fact that most of the times when West and Russian equipment meet in the air, Russian equipment eats the dust time and time again.
