kambo:all these are good courses too !. These courses make you a well rounded computer scientist. The students and teachers just need to look outside the walls of the institution and be conversant with the current trends. There is nothing wrong with the theories taught in schools if the courses are taught WELL and with the goal of practicalising the theories. |
I work as a computer programmer in one of the leading state universities in Nigeria. I develop web applications and desktop software and maintain the existing web applications, generate reports from the web applications' databases and monitor the applications databases for inconsistencies. I used to love the job when i had to develop software all alone and unrealistic deadlines. But the job has become so monotonous now that almost everything is running smoothly, that at times i feel like resigning and just sitting at home to read, but i have been advised severally against it as there are thousands waiting to take this job. Big ups to our jand brothers and sis, thanks for giving us hope that we can also get there. |
@javalove, wasup with your links http://www.jajitech.net/apps/s_dev_mv.php?s=0 thru to http://www.jajitech.net/apps/s_dev_mv.php?s=8 Was browsing thru your portfolio, but my browser hit dry land in the mid-ocean of your website ![]() I am impressed with what you have done though, and still want to see the others ![]() |
javalove:@javalove, Please describe the projects you have done with Java, won't mind learning a few things from you. Thanks in advance. |
chukxy:Use the jar tool. |
I dont even try gaming cos that needs some form of mental alertness too, and movies too take a lot of time and you always have to remember "what happened in the last scene", so when my brain gets jammed, it means I AM TIRED, I JUST NEED SLEEP. Gisting with friends doesnt help either cos i could make use of the energy instead by sitting alone quietly to think |
I just keep working on the code till i feel sleepy, and then shut down my computer with my eyes half closed. But before my brain gets jammed on the code, i try to attack the code in small bits like mice biting off a large chunk of cheese, that way i code a little, and test well, and be sure the computer is not playing magic, when i'm sure the little part is working, then i move on and on till i get stuck or need fresh ideas or need to overhaul the whole project altogether, then i just start feeling sleepy automatically ![]() |
Dr Kitaun:This is one of them philiptowo:see CU graduate philiptowo:Come slap us because we talk now. CU graduates are not super-humans. We are all still Nigerian graduates. All graduates should be tested on their personal abilities and not on the name of their schools. finish. @moyinmc Wait till other graduates start cursing you before you know say you don mis-yarn. What's our business if you've got money to send your daughter to CU. You come to run your mouth on nairaland just because you have a few millions. Tables do turn and tables will turn madam. Even people wey get heavy dough no dey make noise, na small millionnaires like una dey make noise. If you've got a serious attitude problem like this, i wonder how that your daughter would behave. |
rookie:That is what i'm trying to say. These students are just spoon-fed ! Who wont finish with first class given the right materials, conducive atmosphere and all that. In public schools, you strive to get the latest materials yourself, nobody spoon feeds you. Just because they finished with first class does not mean they are any better than public school 2:1 graduates. Any good 2:1 candidate will challenge those first class CU graduates any day |
God bless you 9ja4eva for speaking what you know about the school. It is not about any "pull him down" syndrome, but speaking the absolute truth and nothing but the truth. Let's always speak the bare truth about things and not let these people keep pulling wool over our eyes. Having 20 first class graduates makes it look like those that went to public schools are dullards. If these 20 schooled in public schools, less than five will finish with first class, and if our public school first class graduates went to these schools, they would finish with "super first class" ![]() Forcing students into religion is crap. Man is a free moral agent, as such, he should have the right to choose his path in life. Even God sef no dey force person. Given the choice again, i will still prefer a sound public institution any day In public schools, you mix with people of various character, rich or poor, influential or common man e.t.c and you face so much distractions and attractions that it will take a set mind to achieve, that is what i call excellence. and you can stand any challenge later in life No be some set of bread and butter, spoon-fed, rosy-cheeked children. |
Again, oga admin, abeg change the title of the thread to "Is There Any Hope For Those Of Us who Finished With 3rd Class?". You can't be unfortunate to finish with a 3rd class, the reality is "You finished with a 3rd class". Do you mean you were unfortunate in not less than 8semesters ?. Even if you had a setback in 1 or 2 semesters, you could have bounced back powerfully to compensate for the other semesters, that is why it is called "cummulative GPA" I spoke to a friend just before we left school, he told me that the best students in his department was guyz who were so poor that they had to do farm work on weekends at their villages to make ends meet. These were local, village inidigenes who understood that the way to the top is thru hardwork and no excuse for their laziness. If you can read, write and write, you will finish at worst a 2nd class lower |
debosky, og2711, and gongo_aso, may God bless your souls, may you always prosper in whatever you do for saying the truth and sticking to the truth. What is all these stupid talk about someone 'sorting' to get 1st class or a 1st class graduate not being able to defend himself. Agreed, a 1st class graduate may not be a great orator or an extrovert, but a 1st class graduate is very capable. Don't ever miss great orator skills for technical ability or intelligence. You will even be surprised to discover that most of these 'loud speakers' and fast talkers are not sound academically. On the other hand, most 1st class graduates are introverts who may not like talking too much, but are silent, efficient machines. Not posessing great oratory skills is not the same thing as "The guy cannot defend his certificate" Agreed some 1st class graduate may have crammed and dumped down answers when they where in schools, but it takes serious effort to finish with a 1st class. And, you can never sort to get a 1st class. And God in his impartiality will never allow a first class graduate to be wrongly classified with a third class graduate. You can't eat your cake and have it, and what you sow is what you reap. You can not have wasted your time in school with laziness and lazy excuses, and expect to be treated equally with someone who labored hard to finish tops. Also this stupid talk that you came out with a 3rd class because you didn't have money to sort is rubbish. The only semester in school when i had the best result in my class was the semester when i was poorest. Even having no money didn't make me have time and money for frivolities, and clubbing and girls and other academic vices. You can be a poor student and still be the best student. So, if you are still an undergraduate and digesting all these negative postings, you have started creating your unemployment, but if you sit tight now, there will always be a job for you cos God will always remember your labor and sweat when you were in school. By working hard in school and facing your studies, you are signing a contract with God which he (God) will honor and reward you accordingly when you finish school. For a 3rd class graduate, you have heard it all, double the effort you did make when you were in school now, and hope for a miracle. Peace. |
Though i don't use any of the three (I code with wordpad for desktop apps and dreamweaver for web apps), but i read that one of the strengths of Eclipse is its support for custom-built plug-ins which can be added to the IDE enabling third-party developers to extend the functionality of the IDE by creating plug-ins for the IDE, also i think JBOSS is very good in Enterprise development (J2EE), (very good i must say) especially with new additions like Business Process Managament, JBOSS rules engine e.t.c I haven't tried any one them though |
It's not much about getting results now, but being able to write code that works now, and can be extensible, reusable and easily maintainable later. When you use patterns (which rely heavily on interfaces and encapsulation), you can easily replace implementations, or reuse exisiting code and maintain existing code. I think that is what separates a hacker, and a software architect. A hacker just writes quick and dirty code that works now, but a software architect (programmer with experience) writes code with solid design experience in mind and uses proven patterns which makes the software easy to be extended later. Imagine when a hacker wants to add new functionality to already made software, then he has to go into heavy brain-racking sessions, in the end patching up the code with more disorganised code till the whole project comes crashing down, and cannot be fixed any longer that you just have to abandon the software project. In essence, patterns -- Provide ready made solutions (not code snippets, but design ideas) that prevent you from reinenting the wheel in common recurring problems -- Makes your code industry and standard compliant since everybody understands what trick you are trying to play in a particular code block A good analogy is the difference between Queen's English and Nigerian English. Though you will communicate using any of the two, but you will be conforming to standards when you speak Queen's English. |
klassnic:@klassnic You have really done justice to the topic. You may not re-invent a new design pattern entirely too, you may just extend what the GOF or magnificent seven or whoever has done. You may also invent new patterns too, but i think what the GOF or magnificent seven have done is the base for other works, similar to what Newton and others have done to Physics. Also, if the design pattern is well documented by stating symptoms of the problem, the solution, code samples, UML diagrams, applicability scenarios, and the pattern's anti-patterns, then the inventor may travel to wherever on vacation, and his pattern will still be used effectively (e.g. the GOF and others are not in Nigeria, but their works are being used). But you can't think of deveoping new patterns in mission-critical assignments, you just grab the most suitable pattern in that case. |
@poster, what language do u need the script ? |
ThiefOfHearts:@ThiefOfHearts You have really made my day with the way you have rained curses on d guyz advicing the poster, i'm sure you had a very crazy new year celebration, or what culd explain your choice of such strong words so early this year I culdn't help giggling reading all your curses. @Poster If you are not in a long distance relationship with your guy, i see no reason why he should cheat on you. It's even no excuse if he is miles apart from you. @all Teaches every other lady to be careful not to get into relationships with playaz. If na one nite stand, or you two just dey help each other, then he is free to go down with any other girl, but if na relationship, the faithfulness should be intact. Relationship is more about faithfulness. Happy nu year all. |
proud to be a Libra ! ![]() |
Thanks guyz, i really love this thread and the way nairalanders have been replying professionally to the thread. I have had no such experience though, but reading all these has been worth the while. Wish all threads on this forum could be replyed this way. Peace. ![]() |

Congrats, and keep practising. But i want to know which code worked, cos there were many suggestions. |
Hi blackracle, i've got d latest dumps for LPI101. holla me at melchol4life@excite.com, or drop your number on this forum Later |
That still won't work. The $parish variable still won't work 'cos the variable won't be substituted. use $data = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM address WHERE name ='{$_POST['parish']}'" or die(mysql_error());instead of $data = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM address WHERE name ='$parish'" or die(mysql_error());that way, u won't need the $parish variable again and your code will work fine. That error is too small to spend days on. Hope this helps |
Got ma first job(Job section), got many useful sites(Programming, General Discussion sections), reduced my boredom in the office(Romance / Sexuality section), gave me latest gists in the ICT world (Programming, Webmasters, Phones, Computer sections). Those are basically d sections i visit. Thanx Seun for putting up this magnificent forum. |
worldbest:Hi worldbest, send me the book title to melchol4life@excite.com, or tell me the aspects you are interested in, and i may help you find it. warm regards |
kelechiodo, Pls stop humilating yourself before the world. That was a clever way of insulting the babe. If you really loved the girl, you would have learnt how to pronounce the girl's name while carrying out your "research" on how to approach her. Maybe you got her on a platter of gold that is why you treated her anyhow. She just paid you back in the same coin. Stop being tribalistic and get correction from ppl here. Get out of that tribal mentality cos the world is now a global village. Travel over the country and hear some igbos speak flawless yoruba and yorubas speak fluent igbo and other languages too. Your interest in the babe is enough to make you even learn how to speak yoruba fluently. Go get your igbos babes instead. I know those ones won't bear a fraction of what you did to the yoruba girl. |
@ markos:Hi markos, i'm pleased to know that you are a SAP consultant. Pls where can i get quality SAP training in Nigeria. Pls give me the contact address. Thanks in advance |

my2cents:Yeah AJAX is the word Go learn some AJAX and integrate it with whatever (ASP, PHP, JSP) you are using. |
Hi, i can teach you how to implement a database driven website using ASP+Msaccess, PHP+MySQL, Java (J2EE). Reach me at melchol4life@excite.com |
Use PhpMyAdmin and don't waste ur time with SQL codes for mysql, then note the SQL query generated for future reference |

Congrats, and keep practising. But i want to know which code worked, cos there were many suggestions.
or die(mysql_error());
