equlibrium:Great advice..young girl, must u be in a relationship?! what happened to building a strong CGPA and falling in love with ur studies and building a great career thereafter. U need to fall in love with urself and ur studies. Be comfortable being alone. Pour ur love and passion into ur books. Only girls with poor self esteem and inferiority complex have d need to be in a relationship to validate who they are. No one ever regrets working hard at school. I am very sure u will marry neither of these 2 boys in future. Pls leave both of them and fall in love with ur studies, u will never regret it |
Hello thread, 1,400 for 1gb is real. I just got mine this morning. Rajo is a truthful businessman |
tomakint: Another 'excellent move' from the Jonathan's administration! My Pension-compliant Mum even confirms to me that her monthly pension is now stable and adequate!Jonathan did not do this, Obasanjo started it, get your facts right please |
AjanleKoko: Everybody is doing their best to de-emphasize educational achievement. It's hard not to see that most are consoling themselves over their poor performance at school.God bless you bros. It is very wrong to de-emphasize a degree grade. Being able to finish your degree with a good grade shows how resilient you can be in the most dire of situations, whether you can deliver in the big games, whether you can hold it down when the academic stress is much, and you can stick to the rules and you can perform well even with poor facilities. Pray, how do you think you will succeed in the world of entreprenuership that's so fuzzy and needs so much effort if you can not follow the simple rules of -"attend lectures, prepare for exams and pass exams". Let no one console himself for his poor grades; if u're not cut out for academics, don't waste ur and your sponsor's time and money, learn a skill/trade or buying and selling! |
Rockyfancino: I myself was shocked when I saw this post about the phone...Keep deceiving yourself. May that sorrow-filled story u posted about urself come 2 pass. Fraudsters like ur type block the way for truly needy people who need help |
Interesting thread, but this issue is just an over-flogged issue. To the HND graduate, simply get your Bsc degree and quit whining. I am a graduate of Adopoly, and believe me, it has been fun in the labour market. This is my 5th job, i change jobs every 2yrs, salary more than 5times what i started with. I'm lucky to be in a field where your output is more regarded than your degree or certifications. Bottom line, a graduate's performance is not measured by the type of degree or lecturers who tutored you (tho' it culd). In this internet era, a self-taught graduate from the worst poly in Nigeria can have access to what a student at Stanford or Harvard has... thanks to youtube. We are all in Nigeria, the education sector and employment is all bleeped up...deal with that and stop the useless comparisons. If HND holder come establish company, make una Bsc holders no gree work there unto say na HND get the company. Useless country, dull citizens. Countries like China, Japan, USA, even South korea, Brazil are making progress, useless people debating HND vs Bsc. The disparity is a way to give a false sense of advantage to Bsc holders so as to lay claim to the few available jobs. Abeg, make una continue to waste una time, boys gat money to make....idiots ! |
AjanleKoko: Big Data - the new buzzword, bad guy!, u're on point Sir. I've been doing a lotta research on this lately....great minds think alike ! |
hmm.. Very thought provoking thread. I remember my 10months at home after NYSC too, it was hell. Even my father once asked me if i had done something bad in school that has cursed me from getting a job. Anyways, unemployment starts right when some people gain admission into higher institution. I mean, how could you study courses like political science, history and international relations or general courses like biz admin, sociology e.t.c Best bet for graduates of those courses is to go into self employment...and if you read engr or other lucrative courses, how good are you at them? If you played out your time in school, you've started creating your unemployment my dear. In my case, i knew that what we were taught in school is crap, i set my mind to re-read everything and update my knowledge. I used to study overnight even during NYSC, ppl thought i still had a carry-over in school...i was simply getting set for the labour market. After the 10months, when the jobs started coming, no one could stop it. I'm on my 5th job now, after the 1st one in 2007, with over 5times my starting salary, and lots of PP by the side. Jehovah, i praise you. Guys, u must be strategic in your thinking!, if you read a specialist course in school, be very good at it, if you read a generic/not-so-lucrative course, start hustling, become self-employed. You can always do some menial jobs to get the startup capital. Money is just less than 10% of what you need to startup. If people see your sincerity, trustworthiness and a sound business proposal, they will invest in you. So many people wish they invested in me then, cos i've added value, and i'm still adding value. If you're employed and u've got some spare cash, invest in these human potentials, the returns they could bring later in life cannot be estimated. Imagine if someone had 4 paid tuface's studio sessions when he was still a broke-ass, such a person would literally be sitting on an oil well now Oga Jarus, 1 + 1 is not always equal to 2. Infact, i rate the guy that started a poultry business higher than u sef...not taking anything away frm ur 1st class tho. My 2 cents. |
I finished HND upper credit in 2005, got a job in 2007 after NYSC, and on my 5th job now, with more than 5times my starting salary. The truth, friends is that the University or Poly does not make you in life. Self development is the key. I've read more books outside school in my 5years in poly. The same crap computer science taught in Unis is also taught in Polys, except some few private Unis now. I'm lucky never to have experienced discrimination in my career, though i've started my PGD and BSc (University of Wales). In my little life, i've assisted UK Msc students with their project works (with proof!), and when i sent my PGD project to my supervisor some months ago, he was so amazed at the quality that he asked me if i was copying from a book!. This a PHD holder FYI I will never advice my househelp to go to a Poly, cos talks of this discrimination can be so demoralising. For the bros about to start his PHD in the US, pls dont come back. Some low-life will still talk about your HND when you come back. |
Just like a big bros side here, i really didnt know much about what people study in schools, but i just didnt like Medicine cos i considered it boring. I had my sights on geophysics cos of the opportunity to work in Oil industries. My first attempt at JAMB was woeful, luckily, i passed my polyjamb which is chose Mineral Resources Engr. Fate favoured me, somehow dad's friend helped me into Computer Science. 2nd semester, 1st year, and i fell in love with Programming. 5jobs down the line since 2007, 4industries, i've been writing programs every single day in over 5 languages as the job demands. Thank God, fate and my dad's friend for choosing this career for me, tho i still have hopes of getting into Engr (Instrumentation/Automation things..) |
Very interesting thread here, and nice read. I am a HND Computer Science holder, finished HND at 20, but my parents could not afford to send me to a university then. I finished NYSC in 2006, started working in 2007, and got my 5th job in December 2011. I have experienced discrimination in the labour market but i have chosen to close my eyes to it, studied very hard, and looked for other job opportunities to circumvent it. I started active programming in HND 1, written final year projects for even Msc students studying in the UK (with proof!, no lies here). The Nigerian educational system is so bad, and i wont rate a Bsc holder over a HND holder or vice-versa. Everyone should be assessed on merit, not on any perceived status of degree. For the Bsc holders having a false sense of security in their degrees, keep deceiving yourselves. For the HND holders, please do not wallow in self-pity but let your desperation force out the creativity in you to become entrepreneurs. Nigeria needs entrepreneurs and not book-cook and pen-rogues. Finally, i will not allow even my house-help to go through the HND program to prevent them from facing this initial hurdles of discrimination. The polytechnic or university does no make an individual, you make yourself through sleepless nights of study and God's favour. |
dayokanu:Seconded ! A precious brain about to be wasted on book-keeping |
Happy birthday dude ! |
It's happened several times cos i saved my babe's number in my favorite contact list, a wrong sms meant for another new catch. It usually brings up a serious quarrel thereafter, that all affection for the new girl gets lost, lol Let me here ur experience peeps |

candylips:, wrong, not only programming involves brain racking, enterprise IT security and enterprise networking are nightmares, there are always many ways bad guys can hack your system which u have to be constantly on your toes guarding against. candylips:, true, very true Back to the topic, i have been a programmer for over 7yrs and it has been fun all the way, there have been challenges, but you get past them, and what more, without losing a single life. paulo882:true, very true Generally, medicine at the MBBS level is tougher than IT, but IT on a life-affecting level as embedded systems for time-critical systems in mass deployments is a no-failure-allowed area |
I say a big thank you to God, the all-wise, the giver and preserver of life I say thank you to my mum, who stood by us when dad was making mistakes and wasting his future thank you to dad, you thought i would never be anything, you never really knew who i was, you thought i could never make it in life because i chose not to listen to your wrong advices, thank you, God heard your wrong words and turned my life for good, thanks for providing the school fees anyways thank you to all my friends thru school, that made me know i was different, that entrusted their assignments and academics into my hands, thanks, you made me confident and responsible thank you to my first love Lydia, babe, you wont know what you have done, i can't quantify it. thank you to Mrs Onwuegbu for helping me get into JSS 2 from Primary 4 thank you to my primary and secondary school teachers for always asking me questions in class, urging me to learn more than others thanks for Femi Kayode for giving me a chance at my first job thank you to my present boss, i have learnt so much under you thank you to my girlfriend, thanks for trusting your future into an unknown guy via a blind date and, thank you to me, say my head no reject good, thank you my head say u no gree accept second best |
Mardi Gras:Very very funny |

segzz5:Chei ! U really had fun ! Na all the games be dis, can anyone beat this ? ! memories mehn ! |
ilosiwaju:My guy, God bless you real good, Most sensible post so far on this thread. Make dem dey shout for one small achievement. The journalist suppose go celebrate am inside him room, instead of letting opening up his arse for ridicule. Wrex:Guy, if you have written one single application in your life, you wont be moved by the guy's "so called" achievement. I started writing codes at age 14, became a graduate at age 19 out of this same Nigerian system. I can code in over 7 languages fluently. Instead of sitting down to claim bragging rights, i'd rather move forward and keep learning. Just because everyone here doesnt flaunt their credentials doesnt mean we dont have stuff. Abegi !, go siddon. orisirisi |
Among Best Global IT Developers, joke of the century Just like saying aba boys are in the league of Albert Einstein laughing my frigging arse off If na me, i go beg them make dem no loud my achievement sef. kati kati |
