The reason they call it Christian School is to teach/build values into the children and make a difference, but the opposite is what is seeing here......no need defending evil, this is the reason there are crimes all over the place

Churches are meant to reflect Christ, yet monsters are in church. My opinion is not a defence but a reality check. We need mechanism, internal and external, to check our schools.

Reality check, trash like rhis happen in most schools. The fact that they go unexposed doesn't mean they are immune. The fact that it is a school owned by a religious organization doesn't mean that angels school there. Just like any other gathering, you will find good, bad and ugly people in almost every church (exvept we choose to pretend). Our resentment towards a sect should not necessarily be because they share different views but rather a condemnation of what is wrong.

Restructuring is also not in the 1999 constitution, so why do you think some people clamour for it?

The constitution is not greater than the people, if the government and the political class of Nigeria decide that a referendum should be held, it will be.

And who says government cares about the clamour? As long as the National Assembly do not accommodate referendum via constitutional amendment restructuring and other agitation will be a futile effort a waste of energy.
And who are the people? IPOB? Joke of the century! You guys should better find better ways to dissipate your energy.

Referendum was conducted in 1961 to allow the British Cameroons, who were too small to be a country, to decide what they wanted. North British Cameroons voted to be part of Nigeria while the South voted to join Republic of Cameroon.

In 1963, there was another referendum where a disputed part of the Western Region who were not Yoruba decided they wanted their own separate Region. Over 80% voted to be separated from the Western Region and the new Region became known as the Midwest Region. After the war, this Midwest Region was called Bendel state and in the early 90's, it was further divided into Edo and Delta state.

Referendum is not new to Nigeria.

My point exactly. Not under the 1999 constitution. As far as the 1999 constitution as amended is concerned, the word referendum, though laudable, is a dead end

The South-East Governors’ Forum has described a report that it accused the Federal Government of killing members of Indigenous People Of Biafra members as a ’’tissue of lie from the pit of hell’’.
The Chairman of the forum, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Uzor, further described the report as a figment of the imagination of the writer.
He said the report was intended to embarrass the forum and bring confusion between the governors and Federal Government to thwart the peace processes initiated with IPOB.
“The originators of the falsehood are trying to sabotage the process of moving the zone forward and achieve lasting peace in it,” Umahi said.
He noted that although it was the forum’s responsibility to protect the people’s lives and property, including IPOB members, it should not be linked to politics.
“The writer and his paymasters, failed to appreciate the peace agreements reached between the governors’ forum and leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, during its last meeting in Enugu.
“The forum, therefore, wishes to assure the public that the communiqué raised during its last meeting with IPOB leadership still stands and anybody circulating any contrary report is Ndigbo’s real enemy.
“Such reports should, therefore, be disregarded as there was no such meeting against the Federal Government by the forum,” he said.
Umahi noted that he was quoted as issuing the statement at a time he was outside the country on an investment drive for the development of his state.
“The forum is working in synergy with the Federal Government and other federating units towards economic and regional
integration and development of the south-east region,” he said.
The governor urged members of the public to disregard every attempt by amorphous groups to instigate crisis between the zone and the Federal Government.

Education / Nigeria Third Contributor Of Research In ‘bogus’ Journals – Study by adexway(m): 12:29pm On Sep 07, 2017
Nigeria is among the top three countries globally to get low-quality research published in ‘predatory’ journals, a research has shown.
A 12-month investigation by a team of researchers led by Dr. David Moher from Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Ontario, Canada, found that Nigeria contributed five percent of the scientific studies in bogus publications behind India (27 percent), the US (15 percent).
Iran and Japan, which contributed four percent each, were pegged at fourth and fifth respectively.
The investigation, published in the journal Nature, also showed that majority of papers in suspected biomedical predatory journals (57 per cent) are from high or upper middle-income countries, with many coming from prestigious institutions including the Harvard University in the US.
Largely unknown a decade ago, there are now an estimated 8,000 predatory journals collectively publishing more than 400,000 research studies each year.
These journals offer to quickly publish research findings, typically at a lower cost than legitimate journals but do not provide quality controls such as peer-review.
Predatory journals are also difficult to search, meaning that health-care providers and researchers can rarely learn from the data in these journals.
The journals were randomly selected from well-known but controversial lists compiled by University of Colorado librarian Jeffrey Beall.
The US National Institutes of Health was the most frequent funder mentioned among the very few articles that credited one.
“Our research debunks the common belief that predatory journals are only a problem in low-income countries,” said David Moher, a senior scientist at The Ottawa Hospital and associate professor at the University of Ottawa.
“Predatory journals publish research from scientists around the world, including those based at prestigious high-income institutions.”

Akpan107:
Owerri – The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday said he would ensure that the Naira was equal to the dollar in value, if voted into office. Buhari stated this during the South-East presidential rally of the party at Dan
Anyima Stadium, Owerri. “It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s
economy,’’ he said. He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected. Earlier, Gov Rochas Okorocha had urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates at all levels, noting that a vote for Buhari without support to others at the state would amount to nothing. Okorocha said Buhari would address the problem of electricity, bring back the kidnapped Chibok girls and promote industrial growth. He said that Buhari was loved by the people in the region and urged them to elect him and other APC candidates during the March 28 and April 11 general elections. Former governor of Anambra, Mr Chinwoke Mbadinuju and former Minister of Education, Chinwe Obaji, were formally welcomed to the APC at the rally. The rally was attended by APC supporters from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and Imo. (NAN)

Apologies to this NAN correspondent, but i can see any direct quote by the President elect as to making the naira equivalent to a dollar. All I see is a quote of him expressing reservations on the situation of the Nigerian currency. Howbeit, only a gullible man will take such a promise serious, that is if the president elect did make such claim.

I think Nigerians must accept the fact that our economy would be a huge set back for Buhari. I do not envy him as is assumption of office comes at a dire time. However, we do need courageous and goal driven individuals to turn things around, not a committee setting government or a proud and evasive minister of economy. Hopefully, the National Assembly will complement the efforts of Buhari. But, with all this downtown, it will take focus and resilience to get things right.

More importantly, Oshiomhole has broken the jinx of the PDP in Edo state and with the decamping of PDP stalwarts like a former governorship flagbearer of the PDP, Charles Arhiarhe, former governor, Osunbor, business magnate, Captain Osha, and yet to be announced Rice Man to the APC, only Esan Land will be left to the PDP. Politics / Yuguda’s Revelations On Bauchi Attack Shock Presidency, PDP by adexway(m): 6:30am On Jan 26, 2015
REVELATIONS by Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda on the stoning of President Goodluck Jonathan in the state during a campaign rally was said to have shocked the Presidency and the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Yuguda, in an interview with the BBC Hausa service, said that the stoning and the attack on the President were carried out by members of the ruling PDP.

Before now, the Presidency and the ruling party had accused the opposition All Progressives Congress of being the mastermind of the attack.

Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Prof. Rufai Alkali, and the PDP Presidential Campaign Office, however insisted that the attack was carried out by the APC.

But Yuguda, a member of the National Executive Committee of the PDP, insisted that those who organised the youths that threw stones and pelted the President with sachet water, were members of the party from Abuja.

The governor said, “I am sure and let the world know that the people who did this thing were PDP members and those politicians in Abuja were the ones behind it; they were not APC members.

“They found these youths on the road and gave them brooms and satchets of water and they instructed them that when the President was passing they should raise the brooms and throw the satchets of water at him.

“They did that so that the President would think that Isa Yuguda is against him. They have been telling him in Abuja that we are not supporting him. They did that to show the President that Isa Yuguda is nothing in Bauchi, to show that despite being an indigene of Bauchi, Isa Yuguda could not be respected with his guests in Bauchi.”

Yuguda also said that he and members of his cabinet were not aware of the plan ahead of the rally, saying they were taken by surprise.

Reacting to the governor’s statement, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Ibrahim Jalo, said that only the governor was in a position to clarify his statement on the matter.

Jalo said, “How can my party be organising stoning? Anyway, Yuguda has spoken on the issue. He should be the one to clarify his position on the matter.

“I was in Bauchi that day and I saw what happened. The governor said it was done by PDP members. Ask him to speak further on it.”

However, a presidency source described the governor’s statement as unfortunate.

“How can he speak like that? We have condemned it; the party has condemned it and now, he’s blaming the party for this. That’s bad,” a presidential aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak officially on the matter, told our correspondent.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said he was happy that Yuguda was able to summon the courage to clarify what happened in the state.

Mohammed said, “Governor Yuguda’s interview has vindicated the APC and confirmed our position that the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan will stop at nothing to scuttle this election.

“It is sad that in their desperation PDP and Jonathan are ready to bring down the nation.

“Thanks to Governor Yuguda. The whole world now sees the hypocrisy and perfidy of President Jonathan and the PDP.

“In Jos, Kano, Bauchi, Rivers and other states we have witnessed electoral violence, PDP are the instigators and aggressors.”

But the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP presidential campaign organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, warned the APC on Sunday to stop blaming the ruling party for the attacks on the President.Source:punchng.com
Politics / Lawmakers Vow To Fight Poll Shift by adexway(m): 5:23am On Jan 24, 2015
Members of the National Assembly on Friday kicked against the call by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), that the February 14 general elections should be shifted to give the Independent National Electoral Commission time to distribute over 30 million outstanding permanent voter cards.

The lawmakers said the postponement of the elections would lead the country to constitutional crisis.

The House of Representatives spokesperson, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, said the House would not back any proposal to shift the polls.

He said, “The call for postponement of the elections is a decoy for third term agenda and as a House of the Nigerian people, we will resist it.

“There is nowhere in the world where 100 per cent of registered voters must vote in an election.

“It will be a breach of the constitution to postpone the polls by whatever guise. This is a ploy and we know where it is coming from.”

Deputy House Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, also said postponing the elections would not serve the interest of the country.

Ogor said if insufficient PVCs was the major reason Dasuki cited for the call for the postponement of the elections, INEC should admit those with temporary voter cards to vote in line with a resolution recently passed by the House.

He said, “INEC should speak up and tell us the way forward instead of keeping Nigerians in suspense.

“Let voters use TVCs and PVCs in line with the position already taken by the House. No eligible voter should be disenfranchised.”

The House Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, also described the call for postponement of the polls as a trap for third term agenda.

Gbajabiamila had moved the motion asking INEC to allow the use of TVCs since it was apparent that many voters might not get the PVCs before February 14.

He said shifting the polls was a ploy for third term agenda which he warned would be resisted by Nigerians.

“The NSA has no role to play in the distribution of PVCs,” Gbajabiamila said.

The same sentiments were shared in the Senate, where senators asked INEC to go ahead with the poll.

The Senator representing Oyo South, Olufemi Lanlehin, said non-distribution of the outstanding PVCs was not enough reason to call for the elections postponement.

He said, “It is true that INEC has not performed up to the task concerning PVCs distribution. The situation affects all and sundry; it affects political parties and every geo-political zone. So, it is not as if it is only one particular region or group that is affected.

“The election should not be postponed for whatever reason. Since the issuance of PVC affects region, the result of the election will not affect any part of the country adversely than others. No part of the country would have advantage above another. So, the call for the postponement is unacceptable based on the reasons given.”

Similarly, the Senator representing Plateau South, Victor Lar, said the elections should be conducted because the number of registered voters is substantial.

He said, “The issue of elections is a constitutional provision. The constitution has clearly stipulated that at least not more than 90 days to the expiration of the tenure. So, the February 14 elections should be conducted.

“We must also realise that the issue of security is a serious matter. The number of registered voters is substantial. It is for the National Assembly to decide either to suspend the elections or not.”

Also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment, Dr. Bukola Saraki, asked Nigerians to reject attempts to postpone the polls.

Saraki, who spoke at a campaign rally in Fufu, the headquarters of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, asked lovers of democracy to prevail on the Federal Government that the elections were held as scheduled.

In the same vein, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties has stated that the reason adduced by the NSA to call for the elections postponement was puerile and dummy meant to deceive the international community as well as portray Nigeria in bad light.

In a statement by its publicity secretary, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the CNPP said over 60 per cent PVCs had been collected nationwide by anxious Nigerians yearning to participate in the February 14 polls.

The statement read, “CNPP is worried that NSA has joined some anti-democrats to plant land mines to scuttle our Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.

“Dasuki’s statement clearly exposed his gross incompetence in his primary mandate to secure the country; hence the Boko Haram insurgents escalated since his appointment on 22nd June, 2012.”

The Buhari Support Organisation also agreed that the consequence of the postponement of the polls could be disastrous.

The group said in Abuja on Friday that the shift would be tantamount to rigging.

The Head, (Media, Information Management and ICT) in BSO, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, who spoke at a press briefing entitled: “February 14: A date with History”, appealed to the international community to prevail on President Goodluck Jonathan to abide with the Abuja Accord sponsored by two world reputable men of peace: former United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan and former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mr. Emeka Anyaoku.

He said, “It is expected that the NSA should be conversant with the security implications of his call that the elections should be postponed.

“We condemn such provocative and crisis-prone statement from such a top government official.”

However, INEC on Friday foreclosed shifting the polls.

The electoral body said February 14 remains a valid date for the presidential election irrespective of the challenges confronting it.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said at a workshop on “Mitigation of violence in election” in Abuja that at no time had the commission sat down to review the date of the election in spite of the challenges confronting the PVCs distribution.

He recalled that the commission released the timetable for the poll about a year ago and has been vigorously working to abide by the date.

Responding to the NSA’s call for the postponement of the elections, Jega said, “I don’t want to comment on this. Like everybody we read it in the papers.

“In any case whatever I communicate is the INEC’s position and the commission has not discussed this matter and taken a position on it.”

Jega reiterated the INEC’s position that the elections would be conducted with only the PVCs which he said had been tested and proved to be valid.

He added that the PVCs would be distributed till February 13.

“Therefore, anyone calling for the use of the temporary voter cards in the February elections is only drawing us back,” he said.

Jega, however identified the Federal Capital Territory, Edo, Rivers, Bauchi, Plateau and Imo states as places prone to violence on the ground of the outcome of the primaries conducted in the state.
