kikero: I don't work for the power companies
Infact I have had cause to exchange words with some disco officials at one point over issues with a meter they promised and did not bring( ended up paying estimated billing. )
I also believe they are part of the problem too and also think they don't meter enough
But I have also read around the issue , and while no expert , have unearthed a lot of information to see that power problem is not just about government does not give us power.
One other thing. When I was a student, I lived in an off campus residence , something like flats. Out of 40 of us living in that flat, less than ten of us were paying the NEPA bill for the whole place
It was that experience, that woke me up to the nature of the beast.
I will conclude that when I blame Nigerians for not paying their bills, I kind of hate myself. If I was in power, I would try to give every Nigerian free electricity
But the sad reality is there is no such thing.
Good evening to you too. Bro, you're simply blaming the wrong people There are two sides of the same coin you're trying to blame. People aren't paying enough, there are bypasses but in the same vein i don't see you talking about estimated bills, ridiculous spending on fuels and diesels to generate that same electricity. Hell, people literally buying their own metres, install poles and do all the maintenance associated with it On the same hand as someone already mentioned,it's not the job of your customers to provide money for you to start your business. You simply provide the business and they patronize. That is the sole reason why capitalism exists. The people who can afford to provide this electricity should be simply allowed to take charge and then the govt simply acts as a middle man between them and the customers by making favorable policies that balances both sides of the equation If you raise the money for what we generate, who will now pay that money. If you say we pay #60 for each kw,how will that money be generated when majority of Nigerians are living below that poverty line??. Your argument simply makes no sense tbh |

kikero: And who controls the revenue and the generation bit
Private companies the discos and gencos
TCn is dependent on the revenue they raise
Besides we need 100 BN dollars to fix our transmission. Our budget for this year isn't up to 30 billion dollars All am saying is we need to break down that sector as much as possible and as such individuals should be running the show. I don't see the reason why states who have gas/hydro shouldn't be able to sustain themselves and have to put a chunk of whatever they generate into the national grid. If individual states are able to generate their own electricity and are able transmit within, these takes a lot off whatever weight is being put into the national transmission lines. It's not rocket science |

kikero: What do you think the discos and the gencos are for?
Newsflash...since 2013 power has been decentralised..
Generation and distribution are in private hands. Only transmission is run by government, and that for national security issues That is a filmsy excuse. Transmission is still part of the phase by which power gets to the final consumer and the govt should have no business in it. |

chloride6: I know people will give answers like
1. Petrol Stations and Generator Sellers
The answer is not that rubbish.
Light is just like telecoms (MTN and Co) it is a business.
It is the lack of revenue that is killing the industry. The industry needs to significant capital investment which can only be justified if they are collecting enough revenues. But only so many people are metered and only so many people pay bills. The CBN has been footing almost 30% of the light bill in Nigeria, but politicians wont let you know.
If people were paying MTN bill the way they pay NEPA bill, will MTN have survived?
That's the short answer. Then the govt needs to decentralized the whole thing and put it firmly into the hands of individuals. |

Faithful007: Nigeria's power issue is multi faceted. Actually we should be generating more than we do now, like about 15000mw from available capacity. But there are three problems. Firstly there are gas shortages due to poor gas network. Then the hydro plants experience low head or something like that. Thirdly, our transmission network needs overhaul. Also gas is still expensive due to high production cost rising from insecurity and lack of indigenous companies, from there consumers don't pay back (owing arrears) so the discos owe the gencos, about 500 billion ngn currently. So the gencos find it more difficult to purchase gas. The first step to sufficient power is to rebuild the the entire gas network, from there we can now have modular plants that will not need a centralized transmission system. But before that, gas production costs in Nigeria need to come down so that investors can be attracted to rebuild our gas network. These are the major issues. Very well put. I don't see the reason why the sector can't be like the telecoms. I feel other alternatives to gas can be pursued. Coal is wasting in Enugu. More dams can be constructed across the country. These are alternatives to gas. All these will generate more direct/indirect employment opportunities |

tesppidd: If that figure is true then why would anybody want to let him go?
Esp when detailed stats prove that he's still the best?
I repeat let's leave all the noise; no club in the world can let a 33 year old Messi leave. Maybe at 35. Messi is not even looking to be slowing down,so at 35,he will still be producing this numbers. In today's football,30+ players are still on top of their game. 35yr old Silva just signed for Chelsea and is getting into the first team, Ibrahimovic is still playing as if he's in his mid 20s. Ronaldo is still here not to even talk about Messi Messi still has at least 3 years ahead of him and you can guess what 3 years+ means for both the sporting and financial side of the game for any team that has him |

The thing is that Bartomeu is very useless. Thiago is on the market for a relatively cheap price. He wont need to adapt to our style of play and will give us everything. A Thiago/De Jong double pivot will be very nice. Why are we not going for him?? |

I do not see any club in the world that would have let Messi go at 33. They don't wear the shoe.
A player who just won Ballon dor 9 months ago and who at 33 still statistically had the best individual performance in Europe. Coupled with his commercial value!
Everybody can yap and yap and tap all day and all night, But no club would have let this Messi go without a fight to keep him. Absolutely. I said it yesterday that the only way that guy was leaving this season was through the courts and I don't think neither him or the club wants to go through that route. La Liga,Barcelona and probably the Catalonia govt are all going to be involved |

tesppidd: How much could the Messi brand generate for Barcelona the next 1 season?
Really have no idea, am just asking.
If it's in the region of hundreds of millions then it would not be such a bad gamble to let him on for one more season and then lose him for free. I heard he generates in the region of 200 million per annum. Don't know if it's true though but that man generates a lot of money through tourism for Barcelona(Spain). Not to even talk about what he brings into the league through sponsorships and TV deals For the president of Argentina to publicly tell him to come back means they know his true worth |

The money is the least interest for fans and the club, yet it's obvious the money is needed. Even if there's a bid for him worth a £ 1 billion, there's just this nagging realization that the club is never going to be the same without Messi. And we are too scared to face that reality. Even if he decides to play for three more years, can you really say the fans would be fully prepared then to see him go or even retire? I know I am not. And I'm not alone. Yeah,I know. He's irreplaceable and a treasure. But the truth we must all come to face is that we can't offer Messi anything at this point. |

BlueAngel444: forget the delusion of appropriate replacements. Did barca buy WC players yes or no?
and who did Madrid replace? Modric was a flop in his first season, Bale has barely played a game who did Perez buy? Expensive teenagers, promoting and loaning out youth players. Your club bought two great GK to replace Valdes who did Madrid buy? You guys have bought defenders more times than Madrid has considered. Ok how about midfield, Pogba Madrid wanted where is he? What about VDB we had an agreement with? Apart from last season Madrid spent 200m+ to sign players the last time was likely when we signed James Rodriguez (who is about to join Everton for a quarter d price we bought, it was 2 or 3 seasons ago he played a season for us).
barca fans have been in a fantasy world for far to long. It's one thing buying world class players,it's another replacing the ones that are already there. Barca's tiki taka depends on highly technical players. Xavi moves out for Rakitic. Iniesta moves out for Coutinho who plays in Iniesta role then is played in Neymar's role . Neymar goes out for Dembele who is in and out of the hospital. Coutinho/Neymar leaves only for Griezmann a CF/SS to be played LW. De Jong comes in,same positional play problem. Hundreds of millions spent. Only worth while replacement was the GK position which Valdes was never good in the first place Madrid. Casillas goes for Lopez. Decent goalkeeper that was replaced by Navas. Varane comes in. Marcelo,Ramos playing at their prime. Swap deal for Kroos and Alonso. Di Maria goes for James. Casemiro goes out on loan and comea back better. Modric improves after flopping. Bale inconsistent but still delivers at the right moments. Benzema/Ronaldo all banging in goals. Ronaldo goes,in comes Hazard Difference between the two clubs is very clear. Madrid might not be spending big but they know how to replace each player that leaves. Kroos for declining Alonso is good deal. Barca on the other hand are bringing in WC players only to play them out of position. Only Neymar/Ter Stergen are only two good signings and TSG wasn't even a wc class gk when he came and took quite some time to settle in |

disstroyy: Like a Stage-2 Cancer patient, Barça would sure be thankful for the extra time. Hopefully, the Messiotherapy 'chemotherapy' would save the club from what seems right now like imminent death.
Bartomeu did what he had to do for the club and for the league. If you followed the developing stories, Bartomeu kept insisting he's not interested in any deal which doesn't involve Messi staying at the club, regardless of who was ready to buy him.
Bartomeu knew he'd take the blame so he quickly sacrificed someone in his stead - Abidal. Too bad everyone wanted from heads rolling.
There'd be major changes definitely. Team. Messi would get the players he wants (except Neymar). Barcelona would want to avoid another scandal like this one.
I really don't trust Koeman's coaching ability but I know things would never like they've been in the last five years at Barça. Maybe it's because we've been judging every coach with the Guardiola yardstick. It was always going to be a disaster if he ended up leaving both from sporting and financial angles. He just gave us a soft landing which is very highly much welcomed but we're going to still lose badly cause he'll now go for free Thing is honestly don't see much changing. Which player does he necessarily want if not Neymar?? The kind of changes the club requires at this point is not something that'll be done in 1 ,2 or 3 seasons and unless we're going to win the champions league next season which frankly doesn't happen, there is not much leverage for us to keep him with. Neymar is certainly not coming back at this point. The thing at the end of the day is that we're losing this war. Cash out on him unpreparedly this season will see us badly hit from what I've already mentioned. Losing him next season will give us some time to adjust for his departure but we see us lose him for free.smfh |

BlueAngel444: it's not like Messi will win UCL next season or even lift la liga. This guy focused on the few faults or few fake people and ignored the mass prostest of fans that showed him love and submit. Indirectly he has looked down on his teammates. Disappointed in a massive player i used to have respect for.
a lot of clubs have done far worse in transfer than barca. Look at the teams Ronaldo has played with, if it were Messi he would have gotten Ferguson fired or removed the board in Juventus. Or staged a protest when Ronaldo's "friends" like Ozil, Maria were been sold. If Barca play relatively well,we will win La Liga. Madrid won it last season cause of obvious reasons and that's even thanks to us having all this problems and only losing the league after the pandemic. The priority was never La Liga/Copa Del Rey. On your point that Messi looked down on his team mates and has forgotten the fans means you are not in tune with the various issues that currently is affecting the club. These few individuals are the root cause of our issues which has ultimately been transferred to the sport on the field Again, bad transfers are a problem too many of the current issues. Besides the issues of Madrid and Barca are way too different. We've lost Xavi,Iniesta,Neymar just like Madrid but unlike Madrid we've not replaced appropriately As i said before,Messi is not exempted from the blame. He's the captain and very much a centre of the whole tussle. But the real blame goes out to those who makes those adminstrative decisions |

Barca seems to be losing on all ends. If he stays and is unwilling to play or plays rubbish, Barca will still pay him the huge wages through out the season and he'll walk for free. Lose.
If city buys him, they'll recoup the cash outflow for him, with his presence alone in England(imagine how sales of shirts and other commercial activities will thrive just because of Messi is in England).
But will you trust barca to sign the right player with the money from his sale? Imminent Lose(hopefully not tho) If we are to keep Messi,Bartomeu has to go and Neymar will be priority number 1. I don't see any of these happening so it's better we just cash out on him at the moment |

Suarez has nobody to blame for his woes but himself. The club accepted him during his trying times and fair play to him he has proven himself but man has wasted the last 4 years.
He should be at least 200+ goals for the club. Messi on the other hand is ready to go a whole season goalless if he could give Suarez a chance to win the Balon dor. Why didn't he care about his football again. He became so complacent that he didn't care again so far he and Messi still remained friends.
The club on the other hand has been nothing but fair to Suarez and has given him chances upon chances. Madrid will never tolerate their Benzema putting in those Suarez Champions league numbers for more than 4 years now. The fans will eat him alive if he missed half of the chances he misses on a regular match day at Barca. The day he stops performing is the day another striker replaces him.
Madrid can be very ruthless but that is why they're where they are today. We on the other hand try to make it a more than football type of thing and while it's good, really makes us look soft and as a big club we should be taken more tough decisons |

Messi has a hand in the rubbish we’ve condoned for the past 2/3 seasons. And that’s his relationship with Suarez Spot on. I said it that with Messi around,Suarez felt he was untouchable and that's why he would put out rubbish performances and nobody will take him off or give him a sit on the bench I love players having such relationships and stuff and that bonds them well on the pitch. And yes, the Bayern match exposed us. But it was inevitable. We knew a day like that would come. And boy, it came strong and hard He has always been complacent. Messi goes out injured,he carries the team and plays extremely well. Messi comes back and somehow,he goes back to his old self The inconsistency is so annoying that you feel he does that on purpose. He's maybe looked around and seen that with Messi around and nobody looking to replace him,he's untouchable at the club Bayern match was definitely a no brainier. Liverpool trashed us with Origi. He scored 21 goals last season, yet that was rubbish based on the stats which showed the amount of goals he could have scored with the amount of clear-cut chances Messi created for that guy!
We celebrated Messi having 20+ assists, if suarez had been the sharp striker he was last season , Messi would have been the only player on in the 30+ assist level. That's how much suarez as dropped and how much Messi has suffered. Nothing like age for Suarez. He's been like this for the past 5 years. He misses easy chances and scores goals top strikers won't even think about attempting. He's been complacent and felt untouchable at the club. Science in improvement in fitness levels in football this days has made it possible for players to play up to 35. Auba is 31 years and look at what he's been doing for Arsenal this past few years with little to no service. Lewandoski the same. Imagine if any of this guys had Messi behind them.
