And while doing what RR said, take some time and read through few parts of this thread. Seeing is believing.

You need to prepare yourself.

PS: The school is state university.....good and refusal on your passport has nothing to do with your visa. Only if question arises, then you defend yourself.

masters degree in speech communication in America You have to prepare yourself very well for your interview.

topzy2000: Hi Guys,

I just started following this thread after my interview and am amazed about the wealth of information found here.

I did my F1 Visa Interview in Lagos on the 9th of May and was denied. The summary of it all and what I suspected went wrong was I gave the VO a cover letter with Fixed Deposit statement (7million) from my Dad alongside his bank statement which was about 1 Million.

She spent more time looking at the Bank Statement than the Fixed Deposit. Wondered whether I should have put the account statement in the first place.

She then looks at the bank statement and looks up some figures pasted in her cubicle. I guessed there's a certain amount she was looking for or maybe the exchange rates.

My School is IIT (ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY). The fees are quite high and the fee for one year inclusive of accommodation on the I-20 is 36,000 dollars which is roughly 5.8Million. The school has good courses thats why I choose the school despite the costs.

Now I have booked an appointment for next month, I am thinking of taking the 7 Million Fixed Deposit with an account statement of the exact fees for a year (6 Mill). What do you think?

Do I need to get an affidavit that my Dad is sponsoring me or is it necessary? What else do u advise. Other interview questions were ok.

WHY WOULD YOU WANNA SPEND 5.8Millions just for 1 YEAR where some people are paying less amount or even FREE

I plan getting GRE and Toefl. But then, don't I need to fill the schools I want to attend in the GRE/Toefl form? I saw some good schools that are 'topping their leagues' when it comes to Msc. in Clinical Psychology, but their tuitions scared me off. I don't want to put my hope on a scholarship that I may or may not get that's why I settled for MSU. Is there another way I can go about it? I mean, apply to a better school with a high chance of getting scholarship; a full-scholarship for that matter. Pls I need your assistance. Thanks

Focus on your GRE , get a high score on it, then you have high chances of getting a full scholarship without spending cent's.

pinkyz: @loverencha thanx broda,..and congrat to you too. please can we talk more privately? i wasnt given scholarship? did you apply for one?...were you given a toefl waiver or u wrote toefl exams

pinkyz: i got scholarship, because once you get admission, you automatically have scholarship,...am based in kaduna thats why i choose abuja which is close to me.i havent taken any standardized test. irrespective of the waiver letter,..i will still write the toefl to be on the safer side,...am wishing we all gud luck

In Minnesota How can you got a scholarship without any standard test? I was in the school last week, helping a dude that has good scores on his Toefl and SAT with his admission and scholarship process. Talk to the school and know your stands about the scholarship with no standard test. Moreover, they take High school transcript more serious than Neco and WAEC.

Thanks .

This is not about knowing it all, they are basic things to look out for on campus , atleast you spent 4 years at the school already. According to your claim, you have been to America before Imperiouxx that advised you.............so WHAT KIND OF STUDENT ARE YOU bingo?

How is staying in ND different from staying in Nigeria? That's the question you need to ask yourself. I chose to live in NM because I don't have to be in the midst of Nigerians to live my life (though hard but fine). Just embrace it once you get the main thing - GA and live your life to the fullest. It's just for short time, after then you can move to city for hunting either job, money or wifey.......lol

You said it all

technolee: Master imperiouxx, many thanks to you for you response. Uni. North Dakota (UND) just offered the admission without a scholarship statement yet. I mailed the graduate school and my department anyway and I hope to get one be it tuition waiver, TA,RA etc. What I need to know more about is live at UND as compared to texas, west virginia, oklahoma, etc is it worth staying there. Thank you once more as I await your ever dependable suggestions

Life in ND is low key life but you will surely enjoy your study life.ND is one of the cheap state for students.

Ok then, go to your school's physical plant for job like ground, car pool, carpentry, moving etc. 8am to 5pm (8hrs) @ $7.50/hr or base your state's minimum wage/hr. If you have a good supervisor who can accept you as research assistant(though I no no ya field), then it would be absolutely muuuuuah!. I have never worked elsewhere than in my lab since I got here - either during semester, summer break or winter break ........It's always lab4life! cheesy

Still wondering how someone will spend 4 years in a school and doesn't know anything about job and OVERSEA everything that is going on within the campus.`Someone that pass through school and school pass through, should know all that in less than 4 years. just saying tongue tongue

Am studying in America presently, Many of white kids do always saying i dont speak good English but in my English class i got A and even A in my Speech class which some white kids got C's,so speaking english fluently does not qualify you as an intelligent or educated person..
