ICAN is not a meal ticket. There are thousand of ICAN holders without jobs. I have given him my advice and he has not quoted me wrong.

Is it all about money? I don't like unstable people around me. Why will somebody read Engineering and all of a sudden remembers he needs to write ICAN. Nigeria youth are not after their passion but money.
If it continues like this, then we should forget about development in Nigeria.

Please I have a question, I learnt that after passing the ACCA applied skill level you can opt to write Oxford Brookes University project and be given Bsc in applied accountin. Now my question is after getting the OBU degree can one apply for NYSC exemption certificate with it

Oxford Brookes University is a recognised University and as such you can be enrolled for NYSC or given exemption letter where applicable.

Why not continue in your field. If you think you are going to make money with ICAN you better think well.

The bank made a mistake with my exams payment I.e paid for the wrong stuff which i have email and call ican many times. Which ican said that they are working on it, I should not worry as long as paid the right amount I will write exam however less 4 days to exams they have not email or call me to inform me about my status.
By the way I email them every day for the last 3 weeks

I had similar issue when I was a student. The way ICAN staff handles the Institute is far from professional. They will keep turning you until the day you are lucky to get their I.T guys number you will never get it solved. Just tell them to forward ur call to the person in charge of I.T and in less than 20mins the issue will be over. Never you go to the exams without it being solved. You may be disappointed that your name is not in their registered exams list.

You are expected to check the site 3 days after application to print a docket. Sometimes docket printing is done a day to exams.

I once stayed in Kaduna before I moved out. Many people also left after the 2001 Sharia and Miss world crisis. If you are a Christian and a non Kaduna indigene I'll advice you that you should restrict your journey for survival up North to Abuja. Your life and the lives of your family is more important than the so called greener pastures you are looking for in the North. Opportunities are universal even in your village. Be wise!

I know if I start talking about this particular bank, people will be wondering if any sensible person still patronize them, but you can't blame me cos its not my fault.
In NYSC camp we were compelled to open account with any bank our tag number falls under as we were divided among the banks present. After the account was activated people were receiving 2050 naira from keystone but I was not given, I waiter for days but mine never came and I simply gave up on them. We were all given our ATM cards when leaving camp and 1050 was deducted from those that received 2050. After the stress we went through, my dearest bank was unable to pay us allawee and we had to supply another bank details to receive that.
After my first allawee I decided to transfer some amount into my keystone account and they removed 1050 immediately (in my mind, yea that should be for the card). Two months later I received a debit alert of 2050 on my phone with a message stating(ATM RECOVERY FEE). I visited their nearest branch the following week and hitherto, they couldn't explain why the money was deducted. I requested for a refund (for where, maybe next year)

The other time Access bank charged me 350naira for SMS alert and I was wondering if we were chatting, even my Whatsapp doesn't consume 350naira per month.. I ttayya for all of them!!!

ICAEW in England admits only accountant to their school just as Law school and you go through rigorous training b4 qualification. ACCA admits every one both mechanic the same pattern ICAN follows. That's the reason ICAEW is respected more in England over ACCA. The Law, Medical , Engineering profession don't give platforms for non related fields to be admitted into their profession. ANAN follows ICAEW model. ICAN realising this is coming up with something similar and naming it university .

CCNA or any computer networking knowledge makes you to prevent hackers via computer network. You can on your own configure an online or LAN network with your axcounting skill. Note most accounting softwares e.g Sage and SAP are run on computer network. Most companies would prefer an accountant with such knowledge over the other without the knowlege. Your can also go for CISA and CRISM etc.

My background is accounting from secondary to uni to ACA. I'm not saying don't go for ICAN or ACCA; go if you can but note that ICAN, ACCA and auditing firms are destroying the accounting profession. Every Dick and Harry is now a Chartered Accountant. Firms are looking for value you add to their organisation not just your title. I gain jobs with my knowledge of my CCNA skills together with my accounting certs before other candidates with only accounting skills.

Let me tutor you are little the relevance of Accounting can NEVER fade away inasmuch as the business world exist....IT rules the world rightly but only professionals in their respective fields can key into it.

I have ACA. The truth is bitter. Check the numbers of Chartered Accountant ICAN and ANAN are producing besides CIMA and ACCA. The supply exceeds the demand thus making the pay low. If our universities can update themselves with up to date syllabus an average graduate would be able to perform what the CAs are doing.

And where are the jobs. ICAN/ACCA members are even offered 70k jobs. The supply far exceeds the demand. Rather than gathering certificates with the beggerly mentality of seeking someone to create the jobs and employ you; create the job.

The relevance of professional accounting is fast fading away. Any sound person who is not Chartered can perform what an average Chartered Accountant can perform. Look beyond certification. Create that job, I.T rules the world.

Don't make any payment until you verify from ICAN office close to you. Because if you under pay; you may not be inducted.

There is no benefit that comes with an induction, it is all scam.

I only did ICAN because I am a graduate of accounting. And no serious recruiter will turn you back because you have not done induction.

I guess you're just starting out, ICAN is only good for starters to show you're serious. Anything after that is what you can do.

What has ICAN helped you achieve that you wouldn't have achieved ordinarily.

Nigerian professional bodies are all fraud. If you're a candidate in the CFA program for example, you will not be required to pay annual dues like your professional bodies do in Nigeria.

You'll not understand what I'm saying because the system you have now is all that you know. I would argue the same way back in the day.

I understand your points but if you have ever gone through ICAN annual financial reports which are on their website you would see how it has been run. With ICAN, you can be exempted upto ACCA finals. With ICAN partnership with CIMA you would only write a paper to qualify as CGMA. All this partnerships goes with huge amount of money. HND holders will tell you ICAN breaks the barriers in their job progression. CITN induction is more expensive than ICAN even CIFIAN that is yet to be passed into law pays about 280k for induction. The list goes on and on.
