Bro just my opinion, you should be comfortable to answer why you want to do the program, how the program will help you, what schools you applied to, why you are going to that particular school you want a visa for, your future plans after finishing the program, if you have plans on returning to the country and if the reasons are strong enough, if you have family members there, if any of them are there illegally or why they didnt return, what assurance is there that you will return, how you are financing your education, is there a strong reason the person who want to sponsor you will, how many depandant the person sponsoring you has, will the person sponsoring you have enough to live comfortably after sponsoring you.

Its around these questions you should expect BUT you need to be able to think fast because they can ask these questions in different ways to confise you and even ask a question multiple times to see if you lie or change mouth. So be very comfortable have good reasons and if possible have mock interviews with people to drill you to the point you are confident and answer calmly.

Guys, i would like to know if the response below is okay.

I am filling my ds 160 form and

I am asked, "Have you ever been refused a U.S. Visa, or been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry?"

I responded yes and in the explanation box I say "I WAS REFUSED A US F1 VISA ON THE 6TH OF MAY, IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT I DID NOT SHOW STRONG HOME TIES"

is the response okay?

Q. Where are you going to be lodging?
A. I will be staying on the school campus

Q. Why University of Colorado Denver?
A. Apart from the fact that they offer a specialization in Business Intelligence systems, I picked this school because I will be given the opportunity to learn from some of the top tech companies in the US as they have partnered with the school to educate students through various events. I would also have the opportunity to learn from various students from different backgrounds.

OR

B. If you look at some of the biggest tech companies in the world like Amazon, Facebook, Google, and others, business analytics is a huge part of their company. They are able to use data to predict people's decisions or make reasonable forecasts, all because of data. I would have the opportunity to learn from them as the school hosts regular events with them so students can learn about these things. I have been able to attend some of these events online and learned about some things like wearable tech and I feel when I resume, I will be able to learn a lot more.
Q. Why can't you do this program in your home country/ Why the USA?
A. I noticed that some of the schools in the US like the one I will be attending, hold regular events and seminars where students learn from some of the business leaders in the tech industry. This type of structure is not available in Nigeria. And i would also love the opportunity to learn from different students from different tech backgrounds

Q. What are the courses you will be offering?
A. Database management, Analysis modeling, programming with python, Business intelligence, Project management, Network designs, security, and privacy

Q. What are your plans after graduating?
A. I have two plans, on the short run because of the value a US degree has in Nigeria, I would be able to work with some multinational companies like KPMG or Deloitte as a Senior Business analyst, and in the Long-run, I Plan to create my own tech company and I know I will be successful because of the knowledge i would have the tech industry is still at its early stage in Nigeria.

Q. Do you have funding in the school?
A. No, it will be fully funded by my sponsor

Q. How will you be paying for the program?
A. The program will be fully funded by my mother (full name), who has been my sponsor since birth.

Q. What does she do for a living?
A. She owns a business that deals with logistics or transportation of containers for companies. She is also a civil servant.

NOTE. If I am asked for my bank details of the sponsor
A. This is the bank statement. Also, this is not a salary account, but her savings and investment accounts planned for my masters

Q. What is your marital status?
A. I am single

Q. Do you have any plans on coming back? or if you are granted this visa how are we sure you will return?
A. Yes, I have several reasons to return. All of my close family members are in Nigeria like my mother I have lived with for 26 years and my sisters, Father, and other family members.
Also since I am the first child and only son of my mother it is my responsibility to take over her business, which is the haulage company I have mentioned, which has provided a lot for us.
And lastly, I would like to use the knowledge to improve and grow a website I am personally working on with a small team that combines tech with the real estate sector.

Q. Have you traveled before?
A. Yes, I have been to about 7 countries

The best i feel you can do is let them know he is a legal resident of the US if they ask, is he is married and with a child you can say that and add that his responsiblilities with his family kept him ther and that he is a legal resident. Then try to sell your self as best as possible if they ask you if you have plans on returning. In my case and didn't convince them with my answer because i didnt expect it, so also prepare for other questions like what you sponsor does, how much they earn and how they will not be suffering if they pay for your education and that there is more than sufficient funds. e.t.c.

Shadomaan7:

Okay thanks. Yes, he is legal and he went on an F-1 visa but got a job and they filed for his H-1B visa which is totally a legal route.

But he said he told the VO his plan is coming back to Nigeria when he finish his master’s during his F-1 visa interview then so I’m afraid they might want to question my own intention of coming back to.

Do you have family members in the us?
What do they do?
If they went there for education why have they not returned?
What is the assurance you will return if you are grated a visa?
If you uncle sponsors you, will he have enough to take care of himself?
What is the cost to study your institution?
So you uncle should have a substantial amount of money to pay for this and still have enough for himself?

I put this questions above from my experience, because it might not be the questions you might expect that they will ask you.

Victoriaog:
Good Morning everyone. kindly help me review my revised transcript.

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning, Can I have your passport and I-20
Me: (Passes them)

VO: Where are you going to in the USA?
Me: I am going to the US to study and acquire my masters degree in mass communication with concentration in journalism at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

VO: how did you know about UALR?
Me: I carried out extensive research using academic websites. I used usnews.com, gradschools.com and then google.com. I further streamlined my search to schools whose courses aligns with my area of interest

VO: how many admit and which
Me: 4 admit
University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Missouri, Kansas City, Texas tech university, Lubbock and Arkansas State university, Jonesboro.

VO: why did you choose UALR?
Me: Checking out several schools and speaking with different professors from these schools, professor Timothy Edwards' warm approach and timely response to my numerous inquiries gave me comfort. His interest and teaching experience in journalism was really something that caught my attention and I am willing to learn under him.

VO: Why this course/ what will it do for you?
Me: During my summer internship at orange fm Akure, I happened to work alongside a couple of journalists, Through observing them and their passion to work. My burning desire and Interest for journalism grew more. This degree will make me stand out amongst the rest in professional and academic work as well as give me an edge over others in research and analytics evolving world of media and communication when i return to Nigeria

VO: what’s your study plan
Me: I would be required to complete 33 credit hours of course work in 24 months inclusive of 6 credit hours of core requirement course, 3 credit hours of electives courses. A few of my courses include special problems in mass communication, media criticisms, news media publishing, special topics in journalism, images of minorities in the media.

VO: who’s your sponsor
Me: My uncle will be sponsoring me

VO: why is your uncle sponsoring you
Me: My uncle who was trained by my dad is willing and capable to pay back and he has always been a driving force for me to always advance in life and career.

VO: what does he do
Me: He used to work as a geology professor at Wesley University Ondo and adjunct professor at Federal university of Technology Akure before he went into the oil and gas industry.

VO: why USA and not Nigeria
Me: what is best about acquiring advance studies in the US is that the qualification i earn is globally recognized and on top of that the education system in the US has been known historically for its academic excellence. I will also like to intern with CNN or Bloomberg where I will gain experiences that can't be gained in Nigeria. This will give me a better chance and offer when I'm done with my masters and it will boost my chances to getter a better job in Nigeria. It's a great start for my career path.

This matter is 50/50, so people have mentioned that they have people in USA and the VO did not ask much question (to my best knowledge AOS is legal especially for F1 holder)
I'm of the opinion that adurajoseph brother has done some illegal thing (maybe drop out of school or something) that's why the VO questioned him.
Just try and ask your brother every single details about is movement since he got to USA and have some of his details with you

Okay so to clearify, he hasnt done anything illegal. He went there for his masters in international business and finished at the normal time, while he was in school he dated, during his opt he got married. Works at Tesla. Has visited Nigeria twice (for his wedding and for a visit). Has legal residency. Also has a business there using the knowledge from his course and pays his tax. I know that for sure. So with that profile, i wonder if there is still a red flag there?

Wow! Am so sorry. Is your sister in Nigeria? I also have a Brother in the US who's on his OPT at the moment but my older sister who's sponsoring me is in Nigeria. She has a Masters from the UK and his back to Nigeria. Sometimes the VO wants to know if you have sufficient 'home ties'- Your parents and other siblings apart from the one in the US.

Please reapply and prepare to answer questions about your brother. Also, talk about your own unique plans. I will suggest you change interview location too and fill out a new DS-160.

As for the home ties, I have a sister here, mother, father, stepbrothers here in Nigeria.

Also since I am my mother's firstborn and her only son I plan to return to take over her business and improve it with the knowledge I have gotten. It is from the business that the school funding and family wealth came from. I really hope it is a good enough home tie.

I also have a startup website although not registered yet, it is publically available for everyone to see and use. I don't know if I can use that too.

A VO would find it hard to give a person a with close relatives living as residents a non -immigrants visa .
It is a big big red flag
IN FACT THE BIGGEST RED FLAG OF ALL!
That shows the person have no home ties to Nigeria cos his home (family) is at America
except it is an immigrant visa

Please I would like to understand this very well and where the red flag is and how to correct this.

My family is here in Nigeria. it is just my Brother (Stepbrother in fact) that is there in America (He is married and has a child) and people (Extended family members) have visited him and have always returned. He is a resident and has a good job.

Please, how is that a red flag?

and given that I didn't specify that clearly in the first interview, is it going to be okay once they know and I let them know?

Please, be honest.

you should'nt have done this (tell the VO that your brother is now a resident )
(THIS IS A BIG BIG RED FLAG)
you had an extremely good profile
been to the US twice.
good statement of account
and good course of study.

You should not expose your one bit of red flag.

A VO would find it hard to give a person a with close relatives living as residents a non -immigrants visa .

To be sincere you messed your profile cos this information would be saved for further interview you want to have.

Just try and prepare to look for more home ties that would prove to the next VO .
Like you being married or getting to marry soon
A good job with a multinational company

If i go back, is it possible to clear the air about this.

Hello guys, i went for my interview yesterday and got rejected. Will post transcript soon. But for some background.

I am applying to the for masters in information systems and specializing in business analytics. No funding 43,000 sponsored by my mother with a surplus of this available balance in her account. I have a good travel history. Been to USA 2x as an adult, and travelled to over 7 countries, 4 outside africa, never stayed more than a month, schooled in Ghana, mom has always been sponsoring me. And owns her business.

When i went for the intervew,
the VO asked if i have a relative there
I honestly told him yes, because i have visited him during my first travel there.

He went as a student there and during his opt he got married and has a kid. And only visited nigeria twice for the wedding and to see the family. And he works with Tesla.

Surprisingly the VO was really drilling me why he didn't return after his studies, and that "if he didn't return what is the assurance i would?", I was honestly nervous at this point because i didnt expect that type of question.

He also drilled about financing the masters which i feel my mother can and will pay as she sponsored my sister to also do her masters in canada with no issues and my mother has enough savings to sponsor me for a year.

I was told i didnt qualify and was given a yellow paper stating the reason. Which talked about ties to return but when he told me i didn't qualify i believe i heard for financial reasons.

To be honest i got really nervous when he started really probing about my brother even tho he is there LEGALLY. What do you guys feel?

I want to reapply because i feel i can defend my reasons, what do you guys feel? Any advice?

You can talk about exposure. Learning in an environment with different people from various countries in the world would benefit more than in your home country. If you have funding too, you can leverage on that as well.

Is it also okay to say that "I also feel there are things I could learn from businesses in a more developed country that I can apply when I return". Is that okay to add?

Hello guys, I will be going for my visa interview on the 6th.
The program I would be going for is a Masters in Management in information systems and specializing in Business intelligence systems.
I am unsure of how to explain "why am I not doing it in Nigeria?".
I did my research and I discovered that two major schools (Covenant university and Lagos Business school) offer that program already.
I know for sure that the standard of education is light years apart, But I don't know how to articulate a convincing reason.
How would you explain why you are not doing such a program in your home country?

Hello everyone, Please I would appreciate your opinions on my query.

I plan on doing my master’s in data science in Canada next year (fall) and I need some advice on schools or advice in general on schools in Canada that I could study management in information systems or Business analytics with my qualification as stated below.

I came out with a second class lower in economics, It is quite difficult finding schools with my qualification in Canadian universities.
But I am able to get admission into two schools in America (the University of Colorado Denver and Northern Illinois University).

Please, any person that has insides into some safe schools I could look into in Canada to study information systems or Business analytics would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Please, can anyone either recommend safe schools that could accept me?
