For every anti-war demonstrator, there's a pro-war demonstrator also.
I find it curious how you guys are hell-bent on the US pulling out of Iraq abruptly, thereby plunging Iraq into more chaos than it is in now. Yet if they do that and the bodies start piling up, you lay the blame once more on Bush.
If the US pull sout sharply and the struggle for power commences in Iraq, you'll still be sitting down in your comfortable chair in Lagos without a care in the world, wouldn't you?

Even the most die-hard democrats are pushing for the US to release an accelerated timetable for withdrawal, not an instant disengagement from Iraq.
Same explanation, same support for a wrong and unwarranted invasion based on lies.

Tomorrow you will still make these exact statements when Iran is invaded and the resulting chaos becomes even worse than what we have in Iraq today.

almondjoy:
Thank God Americans do not think like Ngerians. They may have underestimated the Iraqi situation, but are thinking through the whole damage control process carefully. Whatever the reasons selfish or genuine, for going there,-----past, present and future--it is in world's best interest for stability to be restored to the region since they started the ball rolling. Nigerians would have long cut and run like all "abandoned" projects they embark on.
Very wrong my dear, don't let your likeness for anything US blind you.

Nigeria went into a country at the height of a bloody civil war and restored peace in that country and today we even have a woman president - Liberia.

Nigeria went into another country and restored law and order and even reinstalled a democratically elected government - Sierra Leone

Nigeria did the same thing in another country Sao Tome I think.

So, don't even compare the US and Nigeria in the area of conflict management.

And Nigeris didn't have to use atomic bombs in civilian areas to achieve any peace.

Meanwhile, thanks for bring this issue that has helped to show how effective Nigeria is in the area of resolving war issues, maybe they should send some people from Pentagon to come and learn a thing or two from Nigerians in the Defence HQ.

Err. . . Afam said this: "I have written exams set by whites and I know how easy the exams were."

If I understand that clearly, he was simply telling us that the exams set by whites that he personally had written, were easy. He didn't claim that all oyinbo exams are too easy. Besides, "easy" is a relative term, if you know what I mean.
Davidylan is a pathological liar so I never bothered to reply that lie as that is his way of life especially when he begins to fumble on issues and at the same time will expect people to waste time disproving his many lies.

I admit im a bit fascinated by your reply. I don't claim my blog is perfect , but white text on black background is as stark a contrast as black text on white. Besides, I'm aware there are problems with my design, and you're the one that asked for a review.
I asked for a review, I got them, agreed with many and objected to a few. Asking for a review does not mean that all the comments must be accepted or that feedbacks must be correct.

My comment on your blogs was to show that you can never have any consensus on what the best design is or would be even if you tried to have very basic denominators.

onydchic:
If you're not going to take advice in good faith, why ask for it? You're doing that jusification thing again. I don't have a problem with functionality. I'm sure your site is swimming with it. My point IS that it LOOKS POORLY designed. There are a lot of design errors you really should take into account. Did you even read the other points I mentioned?
Again, I don't know if the only way you will believe that I took your advice if for me to agree with everything you stated. I won't do that because I have clearly pointed out what I object to and why.

If it is poorly designed as you claimed why don't you point to a website that you think is cool by your own standards. My dear, we all have things to learn from one another and believe me no one in the area of web development or web design can claim to know it all.

onydchic:
Honestly I can't really think of an entertainment site, right now because I don't visit many, but visit sites like Technorati, Netscape, Facebook, hell, even Google. Flash and colours arent flying across the page, but they look like the layout was well thought through. Tables are aligned, ads are non-distracting, pictures are adequately padded, colours are consistent. And you know what? They are functional. Highly functional.

Let's not get carried away with this 'functionality is key' concept. Your site still has to look appealing.
So, visiting Technorati, Netscape, Facebool and Google will bring ideas that will turn the poor design into a good design even when these sites were set up for entirely different purposes using different web strategies?

I am not against the site looking appealing but a website that is not appealing but highly functional is far better than a website that is very appealing but not functional. On this statement lies my idea of a successful website.

This is supposed to be an entertainment portal where users can and should find information easily without any problems.

Many thanks for your time but I am not bound to agree with everything you put down just as you obviously disagree with some of my positions.

Ultimately this forum will teach you one or two things in life.

You don't have a right to ask people to write on any particular topic, in fact what reasonable people do when they see content they believe don't make sense is click the back button, I do it quite often, learn to do so it will reduce the level of frustration you are experiencing here.

The irony of it all is that it is still the same people that complain about the "from my inbox" threads that will be the first to rush there and rather than assimilate the content will start to divert attention from the main issues raised while insulting others in the process.

Learn to engage in other social activities as it seems that your whole life revolves around this forum as that may be why you must register multiple IDs anytime you are banned.

To Afam ansd Davidylon,

If you guys actually think those exams you two are bickering about is the yard stick the Europeans used in measuring and came to the conclusion that they are superior, then I may disappoint you by saying that you two are actually militating the old mans point, exams are only meant to test your memory and to some extend mere mental exercise, I call it brain bashing. Exams are based on informations you already had afore knowledge of, or test of your application of informations you had afore knowledge of in different but equivalent perspective. this guys are mostly basing their assumptions on creativity, the guys that came up with those informations you learn before the exams are the creative guys, you guys are killing yourselfs over nothing.
I know why exams are written, not just to test memory but to solve the basic problem of supply exceeding demand be it in the area of admission, job seeking etc. This is the main reason for exams because there must be a fair way to say yes to some and no to others.

However, if people cannot even understand the basic information here is it the creativity issue that you want to delve into? Good luck to you. You must understand your target audience before you pass information across to them lest you be wasting time and energy.

Not surprised at the lame attempt by some to reduce the whole issue to exams.

It is normal for one to face issues and also respond to insults accordingly. Not doing so will give people like you the time and energy to insult anyone that disagrees with you while hoping that your insults won't be responded to, in kind.

What makes you think you can insult people and not be insulted back? Do you really think at all? You will be the first to insult and you will be the first to complain about insults, your hypocrisy is stinking.

Formalizing Apartheid With A Peace Initiative
-by: Neta Golan and Mohammed Khatib

Next month the US plans to host a regional meeting to
discuss peace in the Middle East, or at least peace between
Israel and the Palestinians. The maneuvering, deal making
and negotiating about what will be on the table has been
going on for some time.

But the details of the agreement being discussed have been
a well guarded secret but for the steady flow of leaks and
trial balloons. Deciphering this information combined with
facts on the ground, one can put together a clear outline
of Israel's 'next generous offer.'

Political maneuvers can be spun to sound good if the
details are kept vague, but when held to scrutiny it
becomes obvious that the upcoming Israeli offer is not so
generous. Like the Oslo Accords and the 'disengagement'
from Gaza, the peace process being cooked now is a move
to consolidate Israeli control of all of historical
Palestine while taking a large portion of the Palestinian
population off Israel's hands. The devil is in the details
that follow.

The agreement on the table offers Palestinians what
Israel's president Peres calls 'the equivalent of 100% of
the territory occupied in 1967.' According to Peres, Israel
will retain its major West Bank population centers, also
known as settlement blocs, which Peres claims make up only
5% of the West Bank. In exchange Israel will offer to give
the Palestinians the same amount of territory elsewhere.
According to Peres, Israel will exchange land in Israel
populated by Palestinians who hold Israeli citizenship.
This will allow Israel to remove some of its Arab
population, which most Jewish Israelis perceive as
'demographic threat' to the nature of the Jewish state.

When Israeli politicians like Peres talk about retaining
5% of the West Bank, they do not include occupied East
Jerusalem. Israel illegally and unilaterally annexed East
Jerusalem in 1967-68. Hence, Israeli sources claim there
are 250,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank, completely
discounting the estimated additional 250,000 settlers in
occupied East Jerusalem.

Israel's settlement blocs are being created and built as
you read these words. For years Israel has been creating
population centers on strategic land that will carve the
West Bank into disconnected islands, maintain Israeli
access to the West Bank water resources and surround and
strangle Arab Jerusalem. The de facto annexation of this
strategic 9.5% of the West Bank's land behind Israel's
apartheid wall has already taken place. The 'peace' process
will simply make it official.

In March 2006 the newly formed Kadima party was elected to
implement Ariel Sharon's 'convergence plan.' According to
this plan, the non-strategic settlements outside of the
settlement blocs would be dismantled. The evacuated
settlers would be resettled in the 'blocs' behind the wall
that would in turn be annexed by Israel.

On April 14, 2004, President Bush wrote to then Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon, 'In light of new realities on the
ground, including already existing population centers it
is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status
negotiations will be a full and complete return to the
armistice lines of 1949, ' This letter was subsequently
ratified in both US Houses of Congress.

Israel took this as a green light from the US to keep what-
ever areas they can fill with settlers. Therefore, despite
the Road Map requirement that Israel freeze settlement
expansion, Israel accelerated the creation of so called
'existing' population centers in strategically important
areas, otherwise known as the settlement blocs.

In the same letter to Sharon, Bush also stated, 'It seems
clear that an agreed, just, fair and realistic framework
for a solution to the Palestinian refugee issue as part of
any final status agreement will need to be found through
the establishment of a Palestinian state, and the settling
of Palestinian refugees there, rather than in Israel.'

Consequently, in the offer to be made by Israel,
Palestinian refugees will be allowed the right to return,
not to their homes, but to small, non-contiguous parts of
their original homeland, divided into disconnected
territorial units, with no chance of maintaining a sustain-
able economy and with no control over water, power, or
other necessary resources. They will be allowed to return
to a cage, with Israel manning every door.

Israeli plans, backed by these US guarantees, create
an unlivable apartheid situation for Palestinians. But
Palestinians are not even likely to receive such a
'generous' apartheid offer in November. Now, with less
than sixteen months left in the Bush administration, Ehud
Olmert lacks the political clout to carry out Israel's end
of the deal. Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak recent-
ly stated his opposition to what he called 'withdrawal
from Israeli principles that have stood for 40 years,
merely to gain favor in the eyes of an American president
who is leaving office in a year.

Therefore, at the Olmert's administration`s insistence, the
goals of the regional meeting have been watered down to a
joint statement that will outline the basis of the future
agreement. Olmert is demanding that the joint declaration
include a reference to Bush's April 2004 letter to Sharon
and to the Road Map.

Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni's stated objective
is to declare a 'transitional' Palestinian state with
'provisional' borders, an option that appears in the
second phase of the road map. When Israel accepted the
road map in March 2003 it attached '14 reservations.'
Israel considers these reservations as integral parts of
the road map.

Israel`s fifth reservation states: 'The provisional state
will have provisional borders and certain aspects of
sovereignty, be fully demilitarized, , be without the
authority to undertake defense alliances or military
cooperation, and Israeli control over the entry and exit
of all persons and cargo, as well as of its air space and
electromagnetic spectrum.' Such a state would be squeezed
between the separation wall, Israel's demographic border',
and the Jordan Valley, Israel's 'security border' with
Jordan.

With the Jordan Valley making up approximately 30% of the
West Bank, under this scenario Israel would likely retain
more than 40% of the West Bank. This transitional
Palestinian state would consist of a series of isolated
Bantustans, or as Sharon, who fathered the plan, preferred
to refer to them, 'cantons.'

In the past the Palestinians have pressed to have this
option of the temporary state removed from the road map,
since the history of Israel`s occupation shows that
'temporary measures' are almost always permanent. However,
Palestinian negotiators now accept the possibility of a
temporary state on the condition that they receive
international assurances that the third and final phase
of the road map, that includes a permanent settlement,
will be implemented within six months. Israel has no
intention of accepting this condition.

It is questionable whether Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas will be able to accept this offer without a timeframe
for a permanent settlement. But perhaps he is not even
meant to accept. For if Abbas refuses another Israeli-
American 'generous offer' his rejection could be presented
to the world as more proof that there are no Palestinian
'partners for peace.'

Israel would then be 'justified' in implementing its
convergence plan unilaterally. Unilateral 'convergence'
will make it possible to create a situation in the West
Bank similar to what unilateral 'disengagement' has
created in the Gaza. Gaza's residents, 70% of whom are
refugees from what is now Israel, are currently isolated,
starving and under total Israeli blockade from land, air
and sea.

Olmert, Bush, Blair and their accomplices in the 'Quartet'
have vast, sophisticated and boundlessly resourced PR
machinery that, through unlimited access to an uncritical
media, can put a compelling 'peace spin' on an apartheid
process. During the November meeting they will assure the
world of their commitment to a Palestinian state (with
the appropriate Abbas/Olmert/Bush photo ops).

They will promise to commit millions of dollars, funding
Palestinian 'institution building' and humanitarian aid
and arming troops in order to 'keep the peace' inside the
Bantustans. Arab states will normalize relations with
Israel, strengthening the 'moderates' of the entire region,
thus softening the Arab street as a prerequisite for an
American led strike on Iran.

Even the participants in the summit realize that the
Israeli occupation is no longer sustainable in its current
form. If we, the peace and justice community, manage to
expose this latest maneuver for what it really is, Israel
could be forced into fair negotiations for the first time.

For this to happen we must mobilize immediately. It is our
job to educate the rest of the world about what these talks
really mean and the truth about what is happening. The
writing is literally on the wall and on the ground. It took
many months if not years to expose the ugly truth behind
the first 'generous offer.' Let's not make that mistake
again.

Maybe they do not know the different between graphical entertainment site and entertainment portal site.

Afam, I do believe in simplicity and functionally to bring customers attractively.

Good job in programming on entertainment portal site. If graphic design is not your bag, i suggest to have partner with artistically visual designer who know how to incorporate your programming dynamically.

Like me in the past, I was hired by old-fashioned traditional graphic designer who do not know nothing about web programming---all i do is sliced his graphic work to be employed actions/behaviors resulting in my programming on the website much easier and quick-turnaround project. He does not want to upgrade his graphic skills dramatically due to his age---near retirement.

He paid me so handsomely that was suppose 50/50 or 70/30 split, it was my 100% earning, because he was the one sent me 18-months accelerated Visual Communication school. After I earned my 2004 bachelor degree with my 3.90 GPA Summa Cum Laude replacing my 1999 Web Development certification, he disappeared with no forwarded address that i wanted to thank him.
Thanks for your comments. I believe your first sentence summarizes the whole issue.

Basically all the entertainment websites I have been asked to visit don't have much to offer apart from say a flashy home page. From soundcity.tv to mtvbase.com the story if the same, others implement basic forum and news sections apart from pictures of artistes and non dynamic chart system.

Simplicity and functionality will rule the web (it is already doing so right now) and what this means is that your website must be fast, easy to use, useful etc

I am on the look out for a good designer not just someone that knows how to use flash because I can use flash well.

Many thanks for your time and good luck.

"This was a failure to follow procedures — procedures that have proven to be sound," Newton said.

A six-week Air Force investigation found fault with several officers, who have been relieved of duty, Newton said. He said the 5th Bomb Group commander at Minot was relieved of command, among others. Newton did not name them.

Newton said the 5th Bomb Wing, which operates the B-52 has been "decertified from its wartime mission."

He added that the August incident was isolated but a result of a problem at those two air bases.

"There has been an erosion of adherence to weapons handling standards at Minot Air Force Base and Barksdale Air Force Base," Newton said.

After arriving at Barksdale, the B-52 sat on a runway for hours with the missiles before the breach was known — meaning a total of 36 hours passed before the missiles were properly secured, officials have said.
Of course, someone must take the blame, the several officers that have been relieved of their jobs deserve to be relieved of their jobs, I am sure they are aware of the implications of what I firmly believe to be an internal revolt according to the very first thread.

So, the August incident was isolated but a result of a problem at those 2 air bases.

Considering the fact that issues pertaining to nuclear weapons are very serious and deserve all security checks, precautions and verifications trying to explain away the incident is an effort in futility because even the pilot that flew the plane would want to confirm what was loaded on the plane before take off especially when one is talking nuclear weapons here.

The US government have tried their best in trying to explain this but they need better damage control experts in this area.

Wait a minute, it seems that some of you are working yourselves up over nothing.

What do I care about certain individuals who cannot stand views not original to them not responding to my comments? It seems some of you don't have a life outside this forum.

@naijaking1,

Please, stick to the issues you are debating with these people, I really don't need anyone to comment on my behalf, I am capable of handling these people who have a penchant for insulting people that disagree with them.

Make no mistake about it on this forum I have never insulted anyone for disagreeing with me, however I frequently respond in kind to insults people direct at my person for not agreeing with them.

The question is, why would one resort to insults if he/she is confident in his/her analysis or position? Only people that are afraid of losing out in any debate are used to attacking personalities rather than issues.

Whenever I make mistakes I admit them, it makes me a better person, only a fool will continue to argue blindly when facts and common sense are against his/her position.

Even on this forum when I made a wrong accusation on Kobojunkie I apologized and moved on. No one is perfect but the typical Nigerian will rather go to war than accept a mistake and that is where the problem is.

And to cap it all those who will always insult others will be the ones that will shamelessly turn around to accuse others of insulting them when their insults are responded to, in kind.

Bottomline, the likes of Kobojunkie and Davidylan are inconsequential in the scheme of things based on their style of discussion, nothing more, after all I don't know them so would not have any reason to be against them as individuals.

I only hope they keep to their promise because some of the lies and inconsistent posts they make on this forum is a disgrace to the level of discourse that ought to be taking place here.

Stick to the issue and stop going personal. I have overlooked some of your insults in the past and for good reasons too.

I am not interested in any superiority challenge between the whites and the blacks (loosely speaking) because I have seen intelligent blacks just as I have seen and worked with very unintelligent whites.

That some whites believe that whites are more intelligent than blacks don't make it a fact.

Why are Nigerians breaking academic records in the UK and US? I have written exams set by whites and I know how easy the exams were.

Someone makes a comment that some of you ignorantly attributed to scientific study and one of you was foolishly bold enough to ask anyone that does not agree with the Dr to go and do his/her own research.

Now it has been proven that no scientific study supports his claim, his peers condemned the statement and the man stated he couldn't have made that comment, implying he was misquoted and here you are trying to play with words as regards his apology does not mean anything.

If the man cannot stand by what he was reported as saying why should I bother with people here that are suffering from identity crisis?

Unfortunately, some black people have accepted the common belief of the white man that they are superior to the black people. Like I stated earlier, I am certainly not interested in any superiority contest but it is rather unfortunate that some of you use your state of mind to judge the black race.

Put differently, you can be inferior to a white man in terms of intelligence that's you own cup of tea.

Afam, can i contact you? i want to have you on a project
If the project has to do with PHP and MySQL I am game.

With these two, as far as the web is concerned all options are on the table.

Just make sure you take the design aspect far from Afam.

Its too official . . . if you know what I mean wink
Loosen it up a bit

Header
[li]The look of the title is boring, you need to change that[/li]
[li]Dont like the fonts[/li]
[li]Dont like the menus, shorten them and use drop down menus. Also the spacing between them are not equal[/li]
[li]The search box is much too large, check other music sites and see what i mean[/li]
[li]Take the login . . . to the extreme right[/li]
Finish with the header and lets take a look at the rest of it.
Thanks for those comments, I will change some of the things you pointed out especially the 'too official look'.

You and I know that you cannot satisfy every one and online people will never like the same thing no matter how you try to find a common denominator, this is a fact of life so we must live with it.

Once again, thanks.

Hm, where to begin. As can be expected Nairaland. Useful reviews are rare and far-between. I usually dn bother reviewing such sites, but you seem like you want to make a difference so,

First, I believe what's killing many nigerian websites is this mentality of multi-tasking and it's-mine-so-ill-do-it-alone. If you know you have weaknesses in design, then why don't you get someone who's focal point IS design, instead of creating something's that sub-par, and justifying yourself?

The site, I don't know. If you don't have an eye for aesthetics at all, then you can't understand the way i feel. EVERYTHING's WRONG. If it has all the functionality in the world and it's not easy on the eyes, people will get bored and walk away, not expectin much. Kinda like a bashed up car with fancy features.

1. The colours. What exactly is the colour scheme? I always say this, before u start throwing up a css, it helps tp create a graphic of what you ultimately want the site to look like. Photoshop is my tool of choice. Play around. Try to avoid using so many unrelated colours. Cos thats the only way i can describe using orange and maroon in one place. Try online colour scheme choosers if your not too good with complimentary colours.

2. The gradient header and footer thingy? No. Just no. Nothing screams unprofessionalism like graphics that look like they were created in MS Paint.

3. The different navigation bars are inconsistent in width. Why aren't they straight and alignned at the edges?!?

4. Fonts too big and too drab. Refrain from using Arial. It's easily one of the dullest fonts EVER. IMHO. Try stuff like Tahoma, Verdana, Georgia, and Trebuchet MS for dynamic text, then try other fonts for headers titles that won't change often (which can be saved as images). http://dafont.com. Just don't go crazy.

5. It's boring. Thought it was an entertainment site? Add more graphics, use rounded edges for corners, put images, SOMETHING. I don't think you've visited enough sites, or you would have seen what im talking about.

6. For goodness sake please do away witht that HUGE orange ad. Ads shouldnt be so distracting from the content. It's annoying.

7. Just start design again. I didn't talk about functionaity because thats not my area. I strongly suggest getting a graphic person.

Peace.

Thanks for your comments. Your preferences will certainly not appeal to many people all over the world so you must also realize that what you prefer may be what others dislike.

I clicked on your blogs and wanted to see one or two things I could pick from there but the color combinations were harsh to my eyes. Does that mean that you don't know how to choose colors? Maybe that is not the case so my point is that as regards preferences especially with colors there will never be an agreement except for what I believe remains the best in the world - black text on white background because that combination is the most readable combination that cuts across both old and young people as regards the eyes.

The content in bold above is interesting and I will use this opportunity to discuss them.

First, I believe what's killing many nigerian websites is this mentality of multi-tasking and it's-mine-so-ill-do-it-alone. If you know you have weaknesses in design, then why don't you get someone who's focal point IS design, instead of creating something's that sub-par, and justifying yourself?

Your belief is wrong because you don't know why a dedicated web designer is not working on the project. I have setup web projects for clients in Nigeria, UK and the US and the websites are doing well. I believe so much in simplicity and functionality and on the web these are the things that matter. Websites that are not task focused don't survive.

To make things easier, point to an entertainment website that you believe you like based on your own preferences so that others will look at it and learn from the site. It is very possible that I did not search enough but I doubt if you have an entertainment website that incorporates as many features as what you have on the site.

Just kindly point me to a website where EVERYTHING IS RIGHT and we will take it from there.

Believe me, I have taken your advice as regards what I could change on the website but those things I have strong reasons to object to I have equally stated so do not imagine that I do not appreciate your comments, I do but we must be realistic about our expectations.

Thanks for your time.

I actually said "hardly ever" because i'm unwilling to take a stand on something i'm not entirely sure of. But YOU are guilty of starting defamatory and inflammatory threads with unverified and illogical (at least to any truly intelligent person) information.
Of course, anything you don't approve of is defamatory and inflammatory, how convenient and how stupid of you.

Do not waste your time bothering yourself with someone else's position on anything, it only leads to frustration. I dismiss every nonsense I come across on this forum, make my point and move on. Yet it is people like you that cannot stand anything not original to you that are quick to abuse others or insult them for having opinions that you do not expressly agree with.

Unfortunately, it is only people under your direct control that you may have the right to force your opinions on, the moment you get out of your home you face the real world where people are free to believe what they believe regardless of what you think or feel.

Trust me, with your style you will self destruct, I have seen many people like you end that way, it's just a matter of time.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

On 2010 world cup, shifting the venue to another African country won't be a bad idea because if South Africans can effortlessly kill one of their best then they won't think twice before killing, robbing and maiming foreigners during the world cup in 2010.
