udezue:Lol, you proved to me that that I am wrong because Ini Edo listened to Igbo music? who let you out of the asylum? Fool, and who told what ethnic group I belong to? |
I think afamz has screws loose, dude you have let your ethnocentrism blind you, the truth is that Yoruba and Igbo both have niches in the entertainment industry, I cannot tell how many non nigerians think chineke is the 'nigerian' for God. I laugh and explain, so don't be mad that the music is pretty dominated by the Yoruba language. End of. |
@Afamz, dude you are very very ethnocentric, I swear it kills you to even think that they Igbo youth growing up in Lagos would rather express themselves in Yoruba or Pidgin. Get real, it is what it is, like some fool that says because Igbo music was playing at Ini Edo's wedding, it means Igbo people aren't making songs in Yoruba. BTW, Lagos is not a semi anything, if you wanna know why only yoruba people call Lagos Eko, it's the same reason you do not call Germany 'Deustchland' or Japan 'Nippon'. Lagos has other ethnicities but the soul of the city is Yoruba, to deny that is to be a hater, plain and simple. |
It is a lie. . . .rise in fuel prices will not cause inflation It will cause deflation. . . in people's wallets ![]() |
chiogo:Damn, I just have to shake my head, i think you're a 'black girl lost' African names have level of difficulty ? It depends who is judging it, it's easy for you to pronounce English names because you have been forced to speak their language, if you could only speak Igbo, I am sure you'll find their names difficult to pronounce too. |
Lol @ Chiogo, I am currently in South London amongst lilly white people, do you think I'll change my name to suit them, hell no.My name is my identity, it tells people where I come from, who my people are. You think i care if they cannot pronounce it? so long as they pronounce it as close to the proper sound as possible, I am alright. It is very simple minded of you to say you cannot name your child an Igbo name because white people won't be able to pronounce it. I have read some things on nairaland but this take the biscuit, wow. |
DeReloaded:I think this is a slight over simplification, Bollywood blew up in nigeria because it was cheap and readily available and there was a cinema culture then. This is the same reason that nollywood has blown up, it is cheap and readily available, you know. i agree with one hundred per cent about nollywood selling out, just look at how many of them put on this wack American accent? look at the names of the characters in their films, pure nonsense. |
RichyBlacK:That's what I am saying, Chiogo displays that typical eastern mentality, 'what is white is right' so you would rather call you son Jim that Emeka? you're mad. Do you think white people think about how easy it'll be for you to pronounce their names when they are naming their children? so why do you care what they think? |
Lol, at the fool that would rather give her children English names than her own cultural names or as she put it, 'local' names. It shows how stupid and shallow some Nigerians are. Brain washed bull sh!t. |
I dunno but I think Shayo by Bigiano, I was told that is the most popular song at the moment. I think this argument is redundant, it is obvious by examining the facts that Yoruba is the language of popular Nigerian culture whoever says otherwise is just in denial. |
Lol, it seems Re-loaded is just trying to get a rise out of you all and you are letting him. I still maintain that if the cultural was in east, the most popular language would be 'Igbo' but since it isn't, let's just accept that it is what it. |
londoner:It is not common for Yoruba artist to sing in other languages that is why I admired D'banj for making that Igwe tune. I think because Lagos is the nerve centre of Nigerian culture, it is more likely that other non Yoruba will use the language, as soon a yoruba based in Abia makes a song, I will be a happy bunny. |
I do not get why Afamz is so reluctant to admit that the culture of Lagos is Yoruba, ask African China as a man from Ajegunle which language he uses the most, Naeto C reps Yoruba more than Igbo, that is just the way it is. Yoruba language is the most prevalent in music. |
I think Afam is an igbo ethnocentrist. Dude you are in denial if you do not think that Yoruba is most commercial language, dude, I could care Naeto C does not understand Yoruba, he uses it in his tunes. Dude, Rugged calls himself 'opomulero' i think that is a Yoruba. I think it hurts you to admit it, that's all. I love it that they people use other languages, it shows that the country is getting closer. Dude, don't let it hurt it, Igbo kwenu. |
Naeto C is th only genuine star from the above list and what is the name of his biggest hit please? I am not tryna say one language is better than the other, I just made an observation and people are getting all defensive about. |
Afamz, let me break it down for ya, what is the name of Kel's current single? 'Waa Wa alright' is that Igbo? To be honest, 2shotz is the only Lagos bron artist (I think he was) that expresses himself in Igbo and English, which is still a good look. Rugged Man>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> what is his biggest hit to date? is it not that 'opomulero' joint? How many songs have Psquare used Yoruba? African China mixes it up with Yoruba all the time, it's just standard practice to the guy. Faze, he also mixes with Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin. I loved that D'banj made that song in Igbo, to me that it what it's all about, artists being able to express themselves in any language that can appeal to the masses. Lagos might be a cosmopolitan city but it is without a doubt that the cultural theme of the state is Yoruba, to deny that would just be silly. I love that Lagos is mixed, it's beautiful but it's still what it is. Btw, I cannot stand Ill Bliss, I think he suffers from ethnocentrism. |
@Nkierubaby, but will he blow ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Lol, I would not call N.gga raw a star, he is known but he is not a star. |
I love that you have taken up my topic, let's see what the responses are. I reckon it is because for a song to be a national hit, it has to suceed in Lagos, in order for it to succeed in Lagos, it has to have some Lagosian flavour, that is Yoruba or broken English. D'banj can make a song in Igbo, it's safe and smart for him to do so, he has nothing to lose, he is already a megastar, but if an artist is looking to make it, they need some of that Yoruba(lagosian) flavour in their songs. my two cents. |
I think some people here are too stupid to see that these pics are almost perfect representation of this wackness of Nollywood. Look at the first three pictures and if you still don't see, then you're DUMB and I mean that. |
I am digging this track, the beat and the video. |
This is the best summation of Nollywood I have ever seen. |
I think this was a foolish over sight on the part of GLO. They really should have tried to include other ethinicities. I mean, Funke AKindele is cool and if the aim is to represent the company as young and upwardly mobile, I am sure they could have found an SS actor to also include or a Kannywood actor. Will their campaign have the desired effect in the north, hmmn I think not. I am a pretty open minded Nigerian but when I read that list, the first I thought I had was 'wow this is very Igbo-centric' and any one who claims they did not think the same is a damned liar, yes I said it. It may cause trouble for GLO in the long run, as a matter of fact, I hope it does. |
Oh, my list was rather short before, There's this dude, he wears glasses, I think he's called Tony Umez or something, dude always has this begging for kitten face, I hate it. Mumu, Odeh. Those two Aki and puf puf or whatever it is they are called, I cannot stand them, 4 foot nothing chasing full sized women, nonsense. I absolutely abhor Eucharia with her ronald mcdonald make up, she and Clarion Abiola Peters Chukwura. I really like Rita Dominic, I think her accent ( as well as Genevieve's) is the best in Nollywood, it's Nigerian but it's an educated one, I love it. |
Stephanie Okereke is my number one, I do not dislike her as an actress, as a matter of fact, I think she can be a fine one if she drops that fake yankee accent, she cannot even pronounce some of the words properly, couple that with the fake accent, it makes her almost unbearable. Hank Anuku, the guy is a fraud, I have seen a couple of films were he sounds like a regular naija dude, all of a sudden he's yanked up ![]() Desmond Elliot, that lover boy thing is so tired now. With this said, he was pretty good in reloaded which is the best nollywood film i have ever seen, i recommend it to anyone. it's new and I watched in online, I am gonna buy it now. |
@ Ofakosibe, I will not be voting for any of them because none of them 'keeps it real' they're all rapping like yanks, I hate that. Also, most of them have sub par lyrical content, so I do not rate them. I'll vote as soon as you add me to the list. |
