Sometimes Nollywood can be best summed up from the eyes of a stranger because some Nigerians do not see how it appeals to their base fears and desires and i think dude did a really nice job of illustrating that. How can you compare a murderer and gay man ? it is easy to be murderer (just like u planing of stoning gay people) but it aint easy to be gay . Thanks a lot for the laugh " gay people got evil spirits in them " so funny .
BTW , am not supporting gay marriage in Nigeria (as a lot of nigerians are still very close minded) but their fundamental human rights should be given consideration .
I will only support stoning gay people to death if we all support that anyone who commit any act of sin stated in the bible should be stone to death also.
When as God gave human beings the scale to weigh sins ??

Pataki: Pardon me to answer you, but there are dictates and norms which the society expects one to conform to. An homosexual is a deviant to such norms within the Nigerian context. Hence, they should be ready to dance to the tune of the law.
Stop preaching about tolerance here. It does not wash down the dictates and expectations to the law of the society. Yes but what you fail to realise that norms are not fixed, there was a time it was the norm for black to be slaves, society expected blacks to conform to that norm, it was the norm for women to be subservient to their husbands and to have no aspirations. Who decides what these norms are, do we follow them involuntarily or can we challenge them? The tune of law is played by whichever tyrant holds they flute of power, were it be the case the people blindly conformed to norms, aparthied would be all the rage still and Britain would still a 2/3rds of the world. |

~davidylan: Dont bloody hell me there.
1. In bestiality who told you the goat doesnt get a choice? Is it because you dont understand goat language? How do you know the goat did not wilfully partake in the act after it was initiated?
2. In pedophilia the child is NOT necessarily abused. That is the cheap excuse you guys use all the time. We now know of 9 yr old boys and girls who WILFULLY partake in sex and even get pregnant! Why shld a 10yr old boy be denied the "right" to have sex with his 12 yr old gf if they so wish?
3. Polygamy in the US is against the law . . . Mormons are constantly persecuted for this and YET homosexuals cry about "rights"? What?? 'Goat language' what the hell are you talking about? As for your 10 and 12yr olds, because sex is not just about the physical, (at least this is what I believe) it has emotional and sometimes physical repercussion that CHILDREN cannot deal with, which is why I am only concerned about CONSENTING ADULTS 'Goat language' thanks for the laugh. |
Politics › Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by AfroCynic: 6:16pm On Mar 12, 2009 |
~davidylan: The definition of "adult" is subject to bias. As long as a 9yr old girl can get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby, i accept an 11 yr old is an adult and HAS A RIGHT to consent to sex.
You cant spin try to spin this away . . . Only on NL will someone make the dubious claim that an 11yr is an adult, wow. Where in the industrialised world will this argument hold water, when I was eleven, I barely knew anything, much less consenting to sex. I think you are are being silly and you know it. |
Politics › Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by AfroCynic: 6:13pm On Mar 12, 2009 |
~davidylan: I think your own "argument" (if we can be charitable enough to call it that) is the weak one. If homosexuals deserve rights then why criminalise bestiality, pedophilia and multiple marriages? Bloody hell, how hard is for you grasp that, beastiality is not the same thing, the goat does not get a choice, in paedophilia, the child is ABUSED how can you compare this with two people of the same gender who willingly want to be together, how is that even comparable, e gba mi! I am not sure if you mean multiple marriages or polygamy but in any case, so long as all the adults involved are aware and make that choice, i certainly do not have a problem with it. |

Is an 11 yr old considered an ADULT?
oops my apologies @Bawomolo, does this not prove that someone people have a basic comprehension problem. How hard is it to grasp the concept of CONSENTING ADULTS. Why do you people keep compraing things are not remotely comparable in order to bolster your weak arguments? |

Dede1: There are many useless Nigerians who would want to treat harlots or sluts badly like Europeans do or even stone them to death based on religious dictates. Whose right did the sluts violate? Unlike the homosexuals, the sluts or harlots are partaking in what is natural to human beings.
In terms of procreation, anybody who drew analogy between a man and woman in wedlock but unable to bear a child and same sex marriage needs to be shot along with the homosexuals. Nobody drew an analogy between homosexuals and childless couples, someone said marriage is for procreation and I asked, if a couple cannot bear a child nko, is their marriage null? As for shooting me along with the homosexuals, well I am not coward, i speak on what I believe. Look at this fool, coming in here calling women the ugliest names he can think of, wow. I have found that those who are the most vehement homophobes tend to have something to hide. |

lucabrasi: first of all, whoever you are,if you cant reply to comments in a matured manner, then desist from making all these infantille and juvenille retorts with me!!
the point of the comment is not about the way our politicians behave, but what is acceptable, few examples,in spite of the general perceived acceptance of gays and lesbians in the uk for instance, how many prime ministers or cabinet members are gays??
in the british police force which i have been opportuned to do some research on in my degree programme, how many gay and lesbian officers are heading police stations or hight posts or even being treated fairly?bearing in mind that is a country supposedly fair and tolerant, the point of this is that, even though there is a high level of moral laxity in the uk,the fundamentals and what is acceptable is still tied to christianity ,as for sleeping with girls old enough to be their children,it is simply a vice which like other stuffs is immoral, that doesnt equate to justifying gays and lesbians which is far worse.
well, how does the country treat its neediest?bearing in mind you are lumping everybody together? now you are blaming the rest of nigeria, including a lot who are doing an awesome job for the failings of some leaders.
you are asserting that gays and lesbians are being denied their rights, going by this,i guess the law should allow minors who are willing to go off and marry men old enough to be their great grandads, girls hauled off to be prostitutes(by their own free will mind)should be allowed children going out of their own volition to be housemaids should be allowed e.t.ci wasnt making a personal reference to yourself just generally on the need for us to examine ourselves,i still maintain that in a country where religion is the moral compass both for average nigerians and the government, homosexuality, bestiality and other vices of these nature which we were not born with but smuggled into our country has no place and must be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand, now there is dogging in western countries where you can have sex with your partner in a public place, bestiality, objectum sexual e.t.c Lol, half of what you wrote is fantanstical nonsense. I live in London, i have done so almost all my life and never have I come across any instance where it has been said or suggested that bestiality was some sorta acceptable norm, please stick with the truth. As for gay police officers not being treated right, they will at least have some some legal recompense because the law regonises their rights as fellow humans. This society is by no mean perfect but gay folks here can have civil union and go about their business, of course there are still homophobes because a change in law does not mean a change in hearts but it is a start. I am a staunch believer in the idea that any two adult or more , of full mental capacity, who decide to be together should be allowed, I do not know how people segue from this into bestiality and/or paedophilia (unless they are stating their own sexual desires, hmmn?) this is a society that puports to have such high moral has it priorities mangled and excercises such as yesterday's help to make this clear to the world. |

lucabrasi: the problem is that homosexuality is a vice which is devilish, demonic and evil aberattion imported just like tokunbo cars, neoliberalism, moral decadence e.t.c from abroad which has no place in our country, culture the saudi arabians will not suddenly allow pork eating because its popular in the western world neither will they allow the holy grounds of mecca and medina to be used for a porn movie simply because many people will buy the movie @oyb well, there are religious extremists who cannot be excused, but the point im trying to make is that, religion plays an important role in every sector of governance in nigeria hence the reason for my former assertions,we dont have any conclusive survey or empirical research to fall back on,but an overwhelming majority of nigerians rely on religion either islamic or xtianity in governance and to a lesser extent traditional worship, remember the video of the traditional worship of one of the governors in the east which was discountenanced in a court of law, the point is that religious influences is all over the government This is the biggest pile of rubbish I have read in a while. Religion only plays a prima facie role, if truly it governed the way our politicians behaved, they would not be as corrupt as they are be it in terms of federal funds or sleeping with people young enough to be their offspring, essentially we live in a society where the moral fabric has long ago rotted, leaving in its wake chaos. With all our so called moral supreriority to the west, look at how this country treats it neediest, they are subjected to the capricous nature of messed up society where money is the arbiter of life and death. At least in the west, they recognise that being homosexual does not render you subhuman. Denying someone else the right to be who they are, is denying yourself the right to be who you are, you just do not know it yet. |

AfroCynic: Because an adult forcing himself/herself on a child, armed thugs depriving people of their lives, limbs and belongings is in no way comparable to two consenting adults being together, loving each other, that's why. Please show where it is I suggested this to be the case. someone posed the argument that marriage is for procreation and I feel it is a rather redundant one, some m/f couples cannot procreate, does that mean that their marriage is invalid? Some people procreate outside of marriage, what does make of them? Marriage has to be more than making children because the former is not necessary in order for the latter to come about, you dig? So what then would be your opposition to gay couples having their own union? |

georgecso: @ Badriyyah & Co I beg make una cool down and we should not result into persoal attacks
The BIG question is CAN SAME SEX MARRIAGE LEADS TO PROCREATION?
Thats is if you really know what marriage entails otherwise I think this is public display of selfishness and lust of the highest order that could spell doom to our fragile society. If the sole purpose of marriage is procreation, what about couple who are unable to have children what does that make them? To be honest, I think the way any society treat its minority is indicative of of its collective morality. Gay people exist, it is not a European fad, it is a human thing and so long as that is the case, we owe to ourselves, to our conscience to treat them as such. I think the disservice we do to each other is to assume that it is not talked about means that it does not exist, do not fool yourself. That these people could risk life and limb to present their case at the national assembly says a lot. I think it is a shame that any so called democracy in 2008 should pass law discriminating against ANY minority in its society, this is my take on the matter. |
