Diademk07: Harrop has got the speed. He's not as lightening as forwards like Walcott but that doesn't mean he's not got the pace. He's faster than Januzaj for example.
Moreover, he isn't a forward but a midfielder. I'm quite sure he will make it to the next level even if it's not at United because the main thing is that he's got the technique and the brain which are the 2 most important things. He is going to be 22 soon, he won't make it at United. Gomes, Chong and Gribbin obviously have more talent. Heard that Gribbin has a poor attitude though. |

Diademk07: I would still have preferred Mitchell deployed in the striker role over some strange midfielders. It's about giving the team a good shape and a focal point but rather the team looked muddy with no shape whatsoever.. There's no way any player can even develop in the ugly setup. They are just getting by because they are talented and not because of any coaching because as far as I'm concerned, the coach is rubbish.
That said, Kehinde isn't a AM nor forward. He's a proper CM. In fact, he was often deployed as a CDM and he looked quite good in the position and while Harrop looks like an AM, his best display for me was in the central midfield against Sunderland. That was where I got to know he's not only got the technique but the brain and the tenacity for that role.
You could see yesterday that Harrop was often dropping as far deep as in front of defence to build up the play and he made plenty of tackles as well. The player I can liken him to is Marchiso. He's got lovely technique, agility, intelligence, fantastic movement and he's quite aggressive just like Marchiso. I'm not still sure of how great is his vision even though I've seen him pull off some lovely through ball but how consistent is what I don't know hence, the Marchiso comparism.
I love willock though. He's a proper flashy box-box CM. The player I don't like is Redmond and that El Filtroui whatever? El Fitroui has no hope making it at United, he is that poor. Kehinde looks like he will develop more into AM in my opinion but i confess i have not seen enough of him as he is usually a sub. Willock and Redmond both cover lots of ground but are a bit lacking in technique in my opinion. Harrop's main problem is not technique or even vision but next level pace and power. He is tough but just not naturally strong enough in my opinion and lacks the pace to leave markers for dead. I predict he won't make it at United. |

Diademk07: I know but Mitchell is a striker, even if he's not as clinical nor talented as Rashford. He could still do a work there but the coach would rather play a midfielder which I don't get because players on the wings are midfielder also.
I meant the reserve coach BTW. Moreover, it isn't just about the striker but the strange way he often prefer mediocre players over the talented players. For example, I do wonder what that Redmond of a player is doing in the midfield over the likes of Harrop, Kehinde et al. You have a fair point in a way but watching Demi in the reserves he would not have made it in top grade football playing CF. Maybe the manager moved Demi backwards to give him a better pro future. I will agree with you that the manager (who i believe is Nicky Butt by the way) tends to prefer physical and defensively more solid true midfielders like Redmond and Willock in midfield to players like Kehinde and Harrop who are more of AMs/forwards. Where i will agree with you fully is that the reserve team plays crappy football, i prefer watching the academy. |

To score 30 goals in 36 games. So he was averaging almost a goal per game. EPL must be for mumus really. WHen you consider that we have varous mumus like Chris Sutton winning the top scorer award or Dion Dublin even the only striker with 2 k-legs. aka knocking knees Hasselbaink even Le Sulk Anelka
You wont be surprised why obese Yakubu, Benjani mwuruwuru and Adebayor are living legends of the EPL
That kain league suppose dey pit latrine for all man to dey take a dump on Hasselbaink we know, Anelka we know. BUT who is Marek Mintal nitori olohun? Fredi Bobic? really? Theofan is Gekas? Michael Preetz gave Martin Max who gave Sergei Barbarez who gave Martin Maz back lol. Gerd Muller, Eusebio, Puskas are some of the greatest European strikers to play the game. Muller was the greatest poacher ever but stats alone do not tell the story. Pure strikers in Europe it is between Eusebio, Puskas and Muller. Di Stefano above all 3 if you consider him European, Cruyff above all 3 if you consider him a striker. Very good debate to have, however what is not in debate is Marek Mintal and Alexander Meier top scoring in the German League I am very happy Dayo quietly agreed only Mr nobodies have been dominating the Burndisliga for the last 2 to 3 decades, he had to go back to the 70s to pull Gerd Muller out of the sack lol. The preponderance of evidence however convinces us that with otondos like Meier, Grafite, Mintal, Gekas, Christiansen, Dzeko winning top scorer that league must be used to tamba Only a league used for douching could have produced so many otondo top scorers in the space of a dozen years |
fair enough. with four wingers, remember Mata also found a spot on the wings. also if we will sign a new RB, Valencia is also freed up to add competition on the right side. we still have a matter of Januzaj & Lingard to consider.
more realistically, di Maria is going no where after only a season. Depay or Reus may also require a season to settle in & we experience a di Maria-sque routine 2.0.4
I'll personally keep one of RvP or Falcao, buy a Carrick replacement, Rafael & Valencia to keep fighting for the RB except an Alves is willing to join us, sign an Evans replacement(if necessary) add a young forward & return Nani or buy Reus.
this CB thing is just dicey cuz of injuries, for me. if @ least 70% of our current CBs can be fit @ every given time, that's all!
this will be good enough for next season
There is ZERO utility in keeping falcao...or RVP for that matter. We have to ensure we improve our forward play and these 2 geriatric men wont help us going forward. U have a point regarding mata but no way is valencia going to ever compete for winger position again.....God forbid bad thing. We need a younger faster CF to move to the next level next season , make no mistake about it. If not it will be another "nearly" season |

coogar: ashley young adds balance to the team. he attacks & he defends. di maria just attacks & more often than not, he loses the ball. there were rumours van gaal nearly took his head off at anfield with the number of times he lost the ball.
his pass to rooney that should have made it 3-1 was a bad pass. his assist to mata was also a bad pass, mata had to improvise with that volley. hell, even the assist for rooney on saturday was not accurate - rooney had to apply a rare technique and a magnificent finish to score that goal.
di maria is a wonderful weapon to have in a squad but he does more harm to the team than good. you cannot have di maria ahead of blind in a big game from the start. he would expose daley blind's lack of space cos di maria is a notorious defensive liability.
and this is why valencia & young are keeping rafael & di maria on the bench. we all know the former are inferior to the latter but LVG knows the duo that is more likely to stick to his instructions.
rafael & di maria are hot-headed. they would force creativity even when it's not on and then lose the ball. LVG's philosophy is centred around possession. i think you need to understand his philosophy before laying the blame at the feet of the players.
they have been instructed to keep the ball if they are not sure the attack is on. this is why valencia passes back to the more creative players and maintain the shape. you cannot pack 11 creative players on the pitch - it's unbalanced. I agree. This was one of the reasons Herrera was on the bench earlier in the season, until he learnt to be more disciplined tactically and patient with the ball. Di Maria for all his world class talent plays a lil like an i.d.i.o.t at times. He starts risky dribbles/runs when they are not on and often in dangerous areas of the pitch. Bench him so he can learn the same way Herrera did AND THEN he can move to the starting line up. |
