Akintola was killed in 1966.

Awolowo outlived him and he tells the story as it favors him.

Dead men tell no tale.
You mean only Akintola and Awolowo were alive in Nigeria then?

There are several books on that era written by other witnesses. Nobody relied on tales by Awolowo.

Doing the hard part but fluffing the seemingly easy one cheesy

The guy is a special talent indeed. grin
If the coach has sense he had better convert Cunha to a box-to-box midfielder and buy a proper striker. He reminds me of Joelinton who was moved to midfield after flopping at CF.

Between Cunha and Maupay, who miss goals pass.

Personally I think it's Maupay
Maupay looks like he should be missing chances, but Cunha uses his Brazilian nationality to deceive people, then he compounds it by being able to make powerful runs, beating 2-3 people before inexplicably fluffing his lines. The guy is a special talent. grin

I suspect Ten Hag and even the clueless Murtough and co weren't 100% sold on the deal. He was super cheap and we still had to employ an high level of negotiating skills I've never seen from any of those lots. I interpret it as , "we're not that interested in your player, so accept our terms or we walk away".
You are probably right. It was a case of a low-hanging fruit.

Most of the transfers that have his stamp on them have turned out bad and underwhelming. Even Amrabat sef i no sûre.
After seeing our first few games of the season i started suspecting that Amrabat would not work as well as expected. Any player we buy now has to have speed as one of his qualities. I wouldn't blame him too much for Amrabat though cos it is still early days, and nobody expected Casemiro to fall off like he did.

For a human being to coach Antony for 2 whole years and still think he is worth anything near 50m not to talk of 80m is a sackable offence on its own.

If you have an area of weakness in which you lack expertise you should not be stubborn about it.

These are the negatives of this ear he’s talking about .

Normally u no go dey the same space with Soyinka and call him a useless man, extremist and fanatic .

If u have reservations about him , his line of thought and views on topical issues, u will find a polite way of communicating ur disagreement with him without sounding condescending .

It’s this new era that makes it easy for u to just stay inside ur house and call a Nobel Laurete recognized for his works “useless “.
It is a makanaki something.

In a way Wole Soyinka is right .When I say in a way , I mean social media has become sort of distraction that makes real learning kinda difficult .

Currently I have books I have been trying to read for months yet unable to make much more progress. Yes my job is now time demanding but the free time I don’t use sleeping or working , I find it difficult to use it for reading . Once I pick up my phone and enter social media I just waste hours getting amused/entertained by the contents therein while learning very little thing .

In fact , of recent in my quiet time I do wonder if I would’ve graduated with very good grades if it was this advanced social media age with many distractions I attended UNI . Like post-2020 when there’s TikTok , Twitter and IG where there’s always one trending issue to take off as much as 2-3 days off u e.g Mohbad case, Fatoyinbo case that year , Hakimi marital matter , Davido vs the American Only fans girl, etc . These are topical issues u will learn little or nothing from, but u will spend days following the news , discussing it on all social media platforms and even nairaland .

What I don’t agree with Wole Soyinka on is the fact that his bias towards this generation’s technology has blindsided him to see the advantages of these new technological innovations. He choose to only see and talk about the negatives which conforms to his bias . He chose not to talk about young prodigies that have used IT to put Nigeria on the world map. He chose not to talk about young talents who barely completed their college degree but doing exceedingly well today thanks to skills like programming and the likes. Some of these people are well read more than some professors sef . People who work with dashboards , who have found simpler ways of doing some of the stuff our so called professors want to do just one hard way( their own way ).

You can imagine that in Nigerian newspapers when their opening for an academic job in a university , they will still be asking a professor , Dr, Senior Lecturer , etc to send 15 hard copies of their CV , their academic credentials etc; in an age where u just need to email ur CV , do virtual interview and get ur offer letter emailed to you with little or no physical contact involved .
Soyinka made good points. He actually acknowledged that there are positives to the issue which is why he referenced the Arab Spring. He was however interested on this occasion in pointing out some of the negatives. He also noted that it is not a black and white issue. It is quite nuanced and complex as you yourself have said.

Your point about the distractions is 100% true. Internet is a huge avenue for learning but if you are not focussed you will lose your way in an endless cycle of videos and memes which take you away from meaningful learning. Then you watch videos and you see mediocre people with limited knowledge abusing and insulting academics and experts either based on their feelings or just to trend.

Overall the internet and social media are net positives to society but they are not perfect and one has to be aware of the potential pitfalls.

He's still a bit part player even in the Aussie league it seems. I just like the way he strikes the ball... almost like Greenwood's- although I'll need to watch him play a game to conclude.

Great talent tho. Needs to develop in a stable, friendly environment.
Yeah he is still young and his decision making is not the best. He has the physical tools to be a proper thought. Like you I have only seen highlights and yeah he strikes the ball quite well.

Scouted by Bayern.
Oh I know Irakunda. Speed, dribbling, shooting.
I think Bayern would be a good place for him for him to develop. He can develop well with Tel and maybe join Musiala.

It is always difficult to predict if his performances will translate to Europe. Aussie league is not high quality.

Thanks for the explanation.

Although they are competent and well trained doc in gov hospital but their lackadaisical approach is damn.

Their nurses seems worse
If you doubt the existence of gods, government hospital matrons will change your mind. Those ones are deities with more power than Otem or Obatala. They pepper everybody, whether patient or doctor…..you fit collect.

With regards to the attitude, there indeed is a need for serious re-orientation in public hospitals. They often behave like they are doing the patients a favour rather than delivering service. The heavy workload and shortage of both staff and equipment probably contributes to the poor attitude though.

You see why 'Gov hospital " is regarded as a death traphuh

They don't give 2 cent about their patientshuh?private hospital remains d best..na money wey dey yab man
It really depends on the particular public hospital and the private hospital. There is a bare minimum standard below which most public hospitals (at least secondary and tertiary centers) won't go, but private hospitals can sometimes scrape the barrel when it comes to unethical and unsafe practices.
Then again, the top private hospitals will be better than the public hospitals in most cases cos it is the same specialists but working with better equipment and in better environments.

From attack to defense is a mess, shey unreasonable coach no go find how to fix issue ehn? Just leaking goals with reckless abandon.

McTom score some goals like this and he's back to the starting line up as if his primary duty is to score goals. Then you begin to wonder why our midfield is shit. Abi na the 60m wey he use boy Mount to come dey sit for bench.

Make I just catch any Seven Hag disciple one on one first.

I think Nigeria is already there. the only thing masking it yet is the seeming no limit to the shege tolerance levels of residents, which is made possible by nothing other than brainless tribalism.
it is already too late to correct. what we will see is a gradual removal from clannish loyalty occasioned by biting hardship as more families fall below the poverty lines. rebel groups will find easy recruits with a morsel of meal.
it may take as much as 40 years or as little as 5, a complete collapse of the union is inevitable. even elite soldiers can only hold out for as long as hunger and thirst permits.

For you to say it is inevitable that means it has not happened yet, which is what i am saying. You are arguing with me while saying the same thing that i am saying. Things can get worse. There are levels to collapse, levels Nigeria has not tasted yet.

When Somalia really collapsed there was no central government and even the capital was divided up between different warlords. In Haiti as we speak parts of the capital are under the control of gang leaders and no government official will attempt to go into those zones.

There are levels to collapse o. People thought the country had collapsed during Jonathan’s tenure until Buhari got into office. People thought Buhari was the nadir but so far Tinubu’s era is not going well.
In terms of security you might think this is the worst until the breakdown of law and order in the NW and NE starts happening in the South and you have swathes of land completely outside government jurisdiction.

As bad as things are, we have not reached the level of countries like Haiti where the government does not control even the capital or Colombia where large portions of the country have witnessed continuous military conflict for decades. Somalia is an accurate and proximal reminder of what real collapse is.
