Ibime: Kanu usefulness to Super Eagles ended in 1996
And we still paid Kanu tax till 2011 while he messed up our structure
15 years of gratitude paid to him for Olympic exploits. Baba even refused to retire even while on wheelchair at Portsmouth. Our gratitude is exhausted and turned to hatred for the last 7 years of his Super Eagles career Because of age-grade performance between 1993 and 1996 (just 3 yrs o) the guy used our gratitude to hold us to ransom for a whole 15 years. Majestic gratitude. |

This front page thread emphasise what I was saying the other day about Morocco and CAF.... Every award is Morocco. Every hosting right, Morocco.
Anybody thinking Senegal can win tonight is dreaming. CAF will do everything possible to hand Morocco the trophy.
The last time a host country lost AFCON final was 2000 AFCON that Nigeria lost to Cameroon in Lagos. Ever since then, any host country that makes final always win. The trend will continue tonight.
N.B: I am supporting Senegal to win, but all indications point to a "MOROCCAF" triumph. You are supporting Senegal to beat Morocco, but you didn't support Nigeria to beat Morocco. Your case will be settled on judgement day. |

ovoP: Also the centre backs where confused alot in his system. They didn't know when to step up or when to stay. The mid CB In a 3ATB system is suppose to step up and act as a 3rd midfielder. Which begged the question, why not just play an extra midfielder. Maybe he can only coach that formation. Or he believes he can only coach that system. He obviously didn't trust himself to succeed with any other formation. We sha should stop these disjointed appointments. Coach and player styles should be in sync. |

Spurs fans are crashing out over the haram football Thomas Frank is giving them. We have to be extra careful with our next manager. Many of these managers who seem to be overachieving in small clubs are suspect and are not built for the limelight. |

MRTA7: Either Berrada or Wilcox or both needs to be sacked at the end of the season. Let us see what they do this summer. Christopher Vivell has a good reputation. I think the first thing is to remove Berrada from football matters. Let him deal only with the business side of things. |

akwesenana: Do you think he'd have been sacked if he didn't make that outburst after the Leeds game? Personally I think it's not yet Uhuru as those guys up there look clueless. My theory. They were going to sack him at the end of the season or after the world cup when managers became available. That is why they decided not to get him more players for his 3-4-3 this January. He went to meet Wilcox to get him more help to implement his formation and that one said no that he should work with what he has. Amorim read the writing on the wall and spazzed out. They quickly decided to sack him since they already knew he was going in the summer anyway and the compensation money was already in their budget. You are still right though that it is not yet Uhuru. These guys seem to be fond of making decisions and changing their minds soon after. |

patrickmuf: Amorim has shown he is a terrible manager with the poor job he did at Leverkusen...One think I noted yesterday was the fact that Bruno was not all over the place like was the case in Erik Bin Laden's era, he was posionally disciplined, and it help us contain City in the middle of the park...Pep had to sub Foden after the first half for Cherki who was also subdued. No matter what happens going forward one can't take away the fact that it was a coaching masterclass. Let's pray for more of such for the rest of the season. They said Carrick and McKenna were the ones who did the coaching during Ole's tenure. Talking about the City players, so many of them ghosted the game. Haaland and Foden had no impact. Semenyo did nothing all game (Pep has to move him to the left). Another quiet ghost was Rodri who i suspect is terminally finished. That knee injury seems to have wrecked him. The only Ballon d'Or level player on that pitch was Ballon Dorgu. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 10:24am On Jan 18 |
But then you have to question the wisdom of the top guys who went for a strict 3-4-3 coach in the first place.
Fingers have been pointing at Berrada as the person who pushed for Amorim. Ashworth didn't want him because of the formation issue but that one wanted Southgate. Wilcox also didn't want Amorim because of the formation issue.
I think Amorim's sack is linked to Wilcox finally getting control over football matters above Berrada.
The formation is only part of the problem though. All our struggles pre-Amorim came in a back 4 formation. Wilcox and Vivell have to work hard at improving the squad and appointing a quality head coach. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 10:13am On Jan 18 |
patrickmuf: No, we used to have a dysfunctional setup. How many times did Maguire and Martinez face the kind of pressure we used to face under Amorim's setup? Of all the sins of Amorim his cardinal sin was playing his 3-4-3 which requires a 2-man midfield when NONE of our midfielders is suited to 2-man midfield. That was what made his set up dysfunctional and that was what led to our defence being under so much pressure. Asking 2 men who can't do the job of 2 men to do the job of 3 men. |

Raumdeuter no dey forgive person. He has carried that grudge for nearly 30 years.
BTW Kanu provided multiple assists in major tournaments, especially later when he was coming on as a sub and playing like an AM or false 9 instead of a true striker

Same thing I did to Osaze in 2004 despite his having a stellar tournament 😂 It was actually Okocha that abandoned Cele on the left flank not Mutiu. LOL My view is that if Kanu and Okocha had been more direct and stat oriented and less interested in flicks and drag backs that set of players would have achieved more. |

larride: Why Egbon Dayo come leave Papilo dey drag Okocha everyday?
Na Kanu suppose dey collect those dragging Okocha has his own issues. Notably in 1998 when he monopolized the ball dribbling and shooting from impossible angles while Denmark was scoring goals. If you watch that match though, you will see that many of the Nigerian players did not come to play that day. The whole country (with the players) was overlooking Denmark and thinking of a QF match with Brazil. Okocha now decided to play superhero, and he made a bad situation worse. Okocha was generally a defensive liability in midfield in an era where many teams played 2 robust midfielders. That AFCON 2000 final, Cameroon had a rugged midfielder like Marc Vivien Foe. They also had 2 scoring attackers in Mboma and Etoo. IMO the combination of a luxury midfielder in Okocha and a non-scoring star attacker in Kanu made that generation underachieve. |

Issa Hayatou hand dey for that decision too 😂 Yes I know that’s why fans scapegoated Ikpeba but it was an instinctive reaction borne of his deep knowledge of Nigerians’ vindictiveness and unforgiving nature. Posterity has proved him right. |

He was the one that actually gave Ikpeba tension by missing first. |

Unlimited22: My papa still never forgive Victor Ikpeba This is why Osimhen and his people dodged the SF penalty shootout. There is a possibility Ikpeba’s penalty crossed the line but someone else that day definitely missed his. He shall remain nameless but let’s call him the 0 goal king. The 1st mistake was made in the lineup when Bonfrere Jo opted to play Mutiu on the left in front of Cele. Mutiu kept drifting infield leaving Cele to deal with Lauren (then known as Etame Mayer) and Geremi alone. Apart from soldiers nobody as suffered for Nigeria like Cele did that day. The 2nd mistake was playing Chukwu Ndukwe ahead of Aghahowa or even Ikpeba. He was so stinky he was taken off at halftime even though he scored a goal. The game swallowed many players that day including our 0 goal 0 assist king. Okocha was one of the few to keep his energy and technique and scored a left footed volley to level things at halftime. When penalties came Okocha scored his while our 0 goal king aka king of dragback but not score, missed his. P.S It was actually Okocha that was played on the left ahead of Cele that abandoned him not Mutiu. LOL I tried my best. |

Ibime: Nigeria has reached 16 semifinals
By law of probability, assuming all semifinalists are equal, we should have reached 8 finals which we have, thus we win our semis 50% of the time.
Where we are underperforming is in finals where we have reached 8 and only won 3 instead of 4 if we performed to averages. You can blame Cameroon for most of our defeats, especially Roger Milla.
We have only won finals as host and against Zambia and Burkinafaso lending credence to the chokers tag
We have lost finals to Cameroon (3x), Algeria (1x) and Ivory Coast (1x) 1984 Cameroon were better than us courtesy Milla but mainly Dr Theophilus Abega. 1988 we were robbed as Henry Nwosu’s good goal was ruled offside. That was the tournament Issa Hayatou was elected CAF president so they were probably giving him a welcome gift with that final officiating, 2000 was the year we truly choked in Lagos. I was there live. |
