nihilistjnr: I'm not so sure about this.
I mean Russia has been showing a LOT of restraint in this war, primarily because they're trying to colonise Ukraine, not level it. That's why we're hearing reports of missile strikes with only 5-10 people reported dead, and why the Ukrainians still have electricity anf Internet.
In one of my rolese which ended las month, I worked with an offshore software engineering team entirely based in Ukraine, from tech lead to developers to testers, and them dey dey online all the time. They just all have guns in the corner. Stand ups dey funny die
I think it's an entirely different conversation if Russia was trying to annihilate the Ukrainians, and extrapolating from this, a different conversation if US was trying to destroy Russia or vice versa In terms of Russia vs U.S in a non-nuclear war i think the U.S military flogs them. The only issue is that if the carnage gets to both countries' homelands the American civilians don't have the resilience of the Russians. So even if they are winning on the field they might force their government to sue for peace rather than suffer wartime conditions. Plus, historically speaking invading Russia is usually a bad idea. I think the Mongols were the last to have unqualified success doing that, and that was a proto-Russian state still in its infancy. |

Wars have more often than not been wars of conquest rather than annihilation, but we are still able to tell which army is on point and which one is not. Apart from their bullying expeditions in places like Chechnya and Georgia this is the first time the Russian military is facing an opponent that has some capacity to fight back and they are making a dog's dinner of it. |

Ellexy: Players have bad tourneys here and there. Mbappe had one in the last Euros. To me he deserves a place in that team, I no just understand Enrique. The number one thing Enrique is looking for is a ball playing goalie and in that regards there are several Spanish keepers better than him. What is the point of carrying a keeper that will force your team to change its style of play. The single most important player in a possession based team that wants to keep p[laying out from the back is the goalie not any of the outfield players. That is why the first thing Pep did when he got to City was to kick Joe Hart out. |

raumdeuter: The main reason Ukraine is standing now is the massive support in Cash and military hardware from NATO and particularly the US
1 vs 1 no foreign interference, Russia will level Ukraine in 2 months flat The cash and military hardware would not be so effective without the incompetence of the Russian military both in terms of technology and quality of commanders. Many analysts have been saying this for a number of years. Most of them got to their positions due to politicking and even on the field tactical decisions are being made by men in suits. The underlying issue this addresses though is that question people have had for decades, a theoretical war between the U.S and Russia. It now appears that in a non-nuclear conflict the U.S would wipe the floor with Russia. Like beat them like a bad habit. |

A40: This war has really demystified Russia. When corruption and nepotism meets conservative military leadership. Reminds me of the French Army before the 2nd World War. Big reputation but not really good on the field. Although to be fair it is not like people expected anything spectacular from the Russians. Since their embarrassing failure in the Soviet-Afghan it has always been about the nukes with them. Now, that was the war that demystified them. What people didn't expect was the resilience of the Ukrainians, although based on their antecedents maybe it shouldn't have been such a huge surprise. |

Bjteensdes24: And please Doc, can Garnacho play the right wing too in case Anthony is being subbed or still not taking on players? That wing needs to be functional too We can try Pellistri there. He can do a job there. Garnacho should be introduced slowly into the left wing and not used all over the place. |

patrickmuf: Antony has a very sweet left foot and should play closer to the goal...To reach his full potential, he needs to be more disciplined on the ball and play direct football...If I'm EtH, I'll have him watch videos of Messi and Robben often...If he is plays more direct football added with the fancy flicks and skills once in a while, he'll be a superb player...
As for Garnacho, I'm very happy for him. He just needs to keep focus and he'll go on to do great things...His performance should see Sancho step up or be ready to sit on the bench...
Do we have any good right winger coming through the youth set up? We have only 1 winger in the reserves and that is Sam Mather who is right footed and just okay. He mainly plays under-18 (he is a 2nd year scholar). I like him but apart from good decision making nothing spells star in his game play. He also resembles McTominay in a way which may be why i am suspicious. In the reserves now we use 3 no 10s behind a striker (to tell you how bad our winger situation is). In many games we have Shoretire, Hansen-Aaroen, Omari Forson playing behind the striker. No width and no pace. |

Lana1: One guy on twitter said he used the spin to draw out defenders and create space for Caesimro to run into. I wonder how some people watch ball at times Like someone said what does it profit a man if he has to do so much in order to try to beat a man when a feint would have done the job more efficiently. It was obvious ETH didn't like it when he said such a move must be functional i.e use it to beat a man and give a good pass. That kind of move is okay when we are leading 3-0 or 4-0 not when the game is so tight. Like Emerson Royale who was doing no look pass the dying minutes when Spurs were desperately looking for a goal. Some of these Brazilians dey get brain touch. |

patrickmuf: I didn't watch the game but from the highlights, Malacia started abd was later replaced by Shaw, I hope he did not injure himself?
Also, I notice how we now mostly cut back for those at edge of the box to shoot...We had many opportunities with the cut back. I hope the players improve their shooting...
Garnacho looked like everything we expect from Sancho...The drive and skills to take on and beat defenders is enough to open up spaces for others...Garnacho should see more game time... Garnacho was coming late for team meetings and training during preseason. That is why ETH delayed using him. The guy is a disciplinarian who always thinks long term. Garnacho is a baller. He is very direct and beating a defender 1v1 comes easily to him cos he can go either way at speed. Those guys parked the bus and he still skinned a few of their defenders while his counterpart on the other side was doing DJ Spinall. |

I find it intriguing that a country like Ukraine with little or no air defence system is not only defending but counter attacking both on air and land . NATO has been providing support with weaponry and intelligence. Russia's military prowess is overrated in terms of quality of equipment and military commanders. They just have population advantage and nukes. |

Searchingvictor: It seems the drop+ball dribble is only suitable to left footer. It's rare to see left footer with these stop over, roll back, drag back etc kind of dribble. I don't think it matters. George Best lived and died by the shoulder drop and feint, and he was right footed. Baggio also used a lot of shoulder drop and feints though he had a few tricks as well and he was also right footed. Apart from the Cruyff turn Johan Cruyff also used a lot of feints and shoulder drop and was right footed. Rivelino was the 1st (and probably still the best) master of the elastico (snake bite), and he was left footed. Denilson was wavy with his stepovers and was left footed. |

ChristoBam: Only people that didn't watch Ronaldinho play live say he's a better dribbler than Messi. Showboating a lot of times doesn't make you a better dribbler. True. Stylistically Ronaldinho wins but Messi is more efficient, and it is all due to style. Mastering the shoulder drop+ball control+change of pace is the most efficient way to dribble on a football pitch. It beats step over, elastico, pirouette, roll back, drag back, Cruyff turn etc but it is just not as aesthetically pleasing as most of those moves. |
