Amoto94: I don't want a system player knowing that the club can decide to fire at any time and sign a new coach who may not know what to do with such player. He excelled in Sevilla because La Liga is not that physical and the pace is slower than EPL. He is well suited to playing as a RCB but he can also play as CB and RB. I agree that his height might be an issue (as a CB not RCB) but i don't get why you think he is slow. He is quite fast and definitely quicker than most of the CBs in the Premier League. |

TheLequte: Enough chances. Too much space to attack, too much time to shoot, comical errors and mistakes, etc. They were sluggish and slow both physically and mentally- and you could see that they were putting in all their strength.
Brazil just scored Zambia. The free kick wasn’t fast and it was a few inches away from the GK. It still went in In almost all other sports you still see that the women are athletic and extremely fit. It is only in football that even some of the best female footballers look sluggish and unathletic. It is worse with the goalkeepers. Those ones usually dive as if they are pregnant. |

Imagine posting YouTube clips of Goretzka like he is one unknown player from the Peruvian league. He is a good player that we all know but he is not on Pogba’s level. If they want to name 5 players responsible for Bayern’s UCL success I don’t think he will make the list. |

Oasis007: I think it's time to bin both Martial and Pogba. Bin both at once and use their Returns to get Haaland. Pogba is likely to run down his Contract. He seems his mind is firmly set on leaving to join Madrid or PSG, why forcing him to stay?
We should get a CDM and hope on VDB to offer something better to the Squad this Season. Elanga can easily make Martial Memory fades away. If we get Haaland i would switch Sancho to the left and keep Greenwood on the right, at least to start the season. However i don't think we are in for Haaland. This is probably Dortmund or Raiola trying to hurry Chelshit up. I don't think Elanga is ready yet. He can stay around until January but ultimately i think he needs 12 months on loan playing football on a regular basis. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 11:43am On Jul 25, 2021 |
BlueMann: We lost the plot rather quickly in the second half, especially the fourth quarter. Game eventually ended 84-65.
Our free throw shooting was just atrocious (12/24, 50% wtf!), their shooting from downtown was much better and we were turning the ball over like kilode. In short, we were our biggest problem.
I hope we sort it out ahead of our next game against Germany on Wednesday. On paper, our most difficult fixture is out of the way so I'm more confident ahead of that game.
Germany also lost their first game BTW. I changed the channel after seeing that we were hellbent on throwing the game away. The FTs never looked like going in, the 3 pt attempts were mostly hurried, and the turnovers and ball handling has to be the worst i have seen in a long time. |

swiz123: Actually, my memory does. You don't watch all Chelsea matches It does not say anything about a high ball though which is what you stated in your post. I recall the action very well and the moment he suffered the injury and I knew it was an Achilles’ tendon immediately. There is a classical mechanism and reaction to an Achilles’ tendon rupture (which CHO exhibited) and it does not involve going after high balls. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 8:02pm On Jul 24, 2021 |
swiz123: Unlike most of you guys here, I know how to access a player without any atom of bias. I know the qualities I look out for in a player as regards to his position.
Odoi's dribbling is average, has poor judgement and his shots lack accuracy. These are qualities that differentiate good wingers from average wingers. I will be honest, I don't rate Odoi... I doubt he will prove me wrong
If my memory serves me right, Odoi got injured trying to control a high ball which he failed to. Such disappointing first touch was a red flag.... Technically gifted players do that with ease.... Never mind getting injured trying to the it If you are talking about his Achilles’ tendon injury then your memory does not serve you right. |

Jodera: This bolded got me cracking up
Well, my own take is that the way people(players) responds to serious injury differs psychologically. There are some that might hit the ground running immediately they come back, some might take sometimes later than others. But any player that takes years and still claim it is injury either is weak mentally or is simply not talented enough (except the case of ACL injuries).
I see Owen as someone who has a weak mentality(the former) and belloti as Someone who isn't talented enough(the latter).
As for Odoi, he still young and have time on his side. Not all injuries are equal. Owen had 2 or 3 injuries each lasting about 3 months as well as several 4-6 week injuries as well as a 10 month injury all by age 27. His hamstring was gone by 25 and his knee followed shortly after. No hamstring no change of pace, no knee no change of direction. Belloti’s longest injury lay off was about 1 month. He also never suffered any of the catastrophic injuries like a ruptured ACL (Michael Owen) or a ruptured Achilles’ tendon (Odoi). Those are potentially career altering injuries. |

GloryIsaac: To clarify.
It doesn’t matter the formation between a 4231 and 433. In-play, both function similarly. There’s usually a defensive midfielder, and two midfielders playing upfront.
As the match progresses, based on abilities and coaching instructions, players may switch occasionally.
That’s how Fred played alongside Casemiro and Lucas Paqueta in the Copa America. Fred and Paqueta move upfront, while Casemiro holds sway in defense.
At United, it’s supposed to be same, but Fred can’t venture far from his position into his preferred area because it exposes McTom, and inadvertently the defence, and vice versa.
This was why the Bruno, Pogba, Matic midfield worked till Olé ran them into the ground lmao
So it really doesn’t matter how the formation looks on paper, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. The midfielders end up doing basically the same job on the pitch. Not exactly true. The 2 formations are similar but there are functional differences between them and i don't think the players do basically the same job. 1) In a 4-3-3 there is no place for a no10/SS the way Bruno plays it. None of the 3 midfielders in a 4-3-3 would be as advanced as Bruno. 2) In a 4-2-3-1 the 2 deep midfielders are actually quite disciplined (or at least they are meant to be) and you don't get a true box to box midfielder. In a 4-3-3 you only need one disciplined holding midfielder while the other 2 can play box to box roles (OR more advanced roles). 3) Also crucially in a 4-3-3 you don't get such a difference in attacking and defensive responsibilities between the players like you get with Bruno and the rest of our other midfielders. Think of Kroos and Modric for instance who play in a 4-3-3 OR when D.Silva and KDB played in City's 4-3-3. |

nihilistjnr: Other accounts say that Obaseki was an ally to the king till the very end. Your screenshot doesn't suggest any kind of betrayal either That's neither here nor there though.
The one that is busting my head is that you think the whites must have had a counter jazz to mitigate the effects of human sacrifice on an industrial scale, rather than just accept that the jazz did not work Obaseki's change of tone was AFTER the British had conquered Bini. The British essentially left him to rule in the Oba's stead and he allegedly got comfy with being the biggest man on campus and forgot about the exiled king. |
