Ibime: None of those guys played in 100 pass per game system, and only ran 8km per game in their time, plus the half-turn was not a routine method of receiving the ball for possession football, so you cannot make the same comparison across generations. Their skillset and physical characteristics may not even translate into the modern way of DM possession footie. Some of these like Mathaus and Koeman are long-range passers, not necessarily high volume passers. You make a good point about different eras but i am certain Pep would have been a god in this era. He was only unlucky to play in an era Diego Simeone, Stuart Pearce, Sensini and other goons were allowed to slide tackle all the tiki-taka out of your brain. Also technique is more than just passing the ball. My main problem with Alonso and even Scholes was overdependence on their passing. |

Ibime: That's why I said he's in the top 2. You already know who my number 1 is. Are you sure he is top 2? Where do you place Pep Guardiola, Koeman, Rijkaard, Matthaus, Redondo? If some of those older guys had played in this modern era of tackle-less football they might have been even better. |

Ibime: Fa fa fa foul!
Alonso is in the top 2 most technical DM of all time. In World Cup 2010, Alonso was averaging 120 passes per game, and 100 for Bayern. I have never seen midfielder reach 120 passes over a sequence of games in all my years following passing stats, not even Xavi.
I watched Alonso live in stadium playing for Bayern, not under canopy and saw how he dominated possession against Yaya Toure and co even though Bayern had only 10 men. Although he did make defensive error in that game sha.
Fernandinho used to be an AM in Brazil before converting to DM. He is technically very good, don't be confused by his work ethic
Kante is good on the ball for a normal manager, but not to play DM in an ultra-possession team like Sarri or Pep team. Xabi Alonso was good but he is Xavi's junior. Xavi averaged over 120 passes in a competition TWICE and his accuracy was much better than Alonso's. |

So the team doctors and physio are watching like spectators as Lukaku keeps adding weight every week. Not to talk of their inability to get certain players fit.
I can’t think of one department in the club that does not require work. |

Hazard is a shakushaku dancer who does not understand what is important and what he needs to do in order to get to the highest level.
It was not the complexity or distance of Neymar’s pass that made the goal. It was his intelligence and understanding that quick interplay with Mbappe and racing up the field would be better than twerking in one corner or one spot like Hazard would have done. |

Those ladies are too good for that second tier level already. Beautiful football and nice goals also. I always watch their matches. Luckily they are usually early kick offs. Actually recently I have been watching the full matches of the women and the highlights (if there are any) of the men. |

HanksAnuku: France won the World Cup. Bakayoko is French.
You wey no hail from manchester dey say 'we we' when talking about your beloved red devils.
How much more Bakayoko born and raised in France?
France won the world cup. Anybody with French kpali is also a winner The French oloshos who went to Russia to offer moral support did more to ensure a French victory than Bakayoko. I didn't watch the World Cup, does Bakayoko have a winner's medal or does he have the same right to it as a mashed up who.re in a Marseille whorehouse? |

Ibime: Is he playing box to box now?
Don't confuse role of CM in methodical build-up play of Sarriball to box-to-box.
Kante played B2B at Leicester and won the league.
Kante remains a better B2B than DM.
This should lead me to conjuring up an infamous phrase to be remembered on par with "They are still gelling" or "Aguero is finished".
Hear it . . . .
"Not every CM is a box2box"!!!
DEM NO KNOW BALL!!! Most definitely. Xavi for instance was not box 2 box. |

HanksAnuku: Bakayoko is from France so he too can say "we won the world cup" And you no shame to say this kind thing? While his mates like Umtiti, Lemar, Oga Paul were actually working assiduously to ensure the World Cup went back to France Bakayoko was back home cheering along with all the pregnant women and primary school children. I no go shock if we find out he was among those who lined the Champs-Elysees to wave the tricolor as his omo inu like Killah Mbappe, Dembele and Pavard were welcomed home like war heroes. |

HanksAnuku: that was afrodoc2 actually Yeah i did say that. He is struggling to adapt to the new role but i believe that might be partly due to the Sarriball slow pace possession footie and over reliance on Jorginho. He would adapt better to the role if it was a faster paced, less possession oriented system. Last last, generally speaking even at DM is not the player he was 2-3years ago, even last year it had become apparent he no longer covered up to 70% of the world again. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 2:18pm On Nov 25, 2018 |
Lana1: Notice that Hensben is nowhere to be found to remind us of how he always said Hazard will excel in an attacking system. Baba has disappeared just like Hazard's goals.
But the moment Hazard manage find one goal again and boom he's back to remind us of how he always believed in Hazard.
I've never seen a more inconsistent attacker that is constantly always been placed in the same bracket as C.Ro and Messi! Hazard has hoodwinked even some of the best minds in the Chelsea fanbase. It was when Nihilist started arguing for Hazard having Messi talent level that i knew it was more than oju lasan. This guy will go though 30 eke market days easily without scoring a goal and then he will score one goal and his fans will come out and say "you see, we told you he is better than Neymar and as good as Messi". |
