Botragelad: Come on, stop spouting nonsense! Focus on reality here. A Russian base in Mexico or Canada is hardly comparable to the severity of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is a sovereign nation that's been invaded by Russia twice, in 2014 and 2022, under false pretenses.
ARussian base in North America wouldn't hold a candle to the actual war Russia's waging. And let's not forget, NATO is a defensive alliance, not some aggressive entity forcing its will on others. European nations, many of whom have experienced Soviet imperialism firsthand, are choosing to join NATO's collective security framework of their own accord.
Can't you see the difference between NATO's expansion, driven by European nations' desire for security, and Russia's unilateral militarization of its borders? Or Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 and invasion of Ukraine in 2022? These dirty act from Putin directly violate the Budapest Memorandum, where Russia guaranteed Ukraine's sovereignty in exchange for denuclearization. 🤷🏼 So you are not aware US was at the verge of invading Cuba because of the weapons USSR placed there that resulted in the cold war?? The US would have invaded the country, had USSR not followed the path of reasoning and removed them. |

https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/29/i-am-not-made-for-war-the-men-fleeing-ukraine-to-evade-conscriptionThe autumn cannot arrive soon enough for Dmytro, when his handlers have promised to get him out of Ukraine. For the past month, the 31-year-old photographer from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been holed up in his flat, rarely stepping outside, to avoid being conscripted into the army. “I want to leave the country. My mind can’t take being trapped here any more,” Dmytro said.... Since the start of the war, thousands of Ukrainian men have illegally crossed the Ukrainian border to dodge conscription, despite a nationwide ban prohibiting men between the ages of 18 and 60 from leaving. Attempts to flee the country are expected to increase after Ukraine’s recent adoption of new sweeping mobilisation measures, which allow the military to call up more soldiers and impose stricter penalties for draft evasion. “I never thought about leaving until the mobilisation laws were introduced. But I can’t stay in my flat forever,” Dmytro said. Through friends who had already fled, Dmytro obtained contacts and approached individuals online promising to facilitate his escape for a hefty fee, starting from €8,000 (£6,800). “I am not made for war. I can’t kill people, even if they are Russians. I won’t last long on the front … I want to build a family and see the world. I am not ready to die,” he said. Dmytro was unsure if he could trust the handlers, who had recently raised their prices to meet the growing demand, but said he saw no other options. More than two years into Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s armed forces are desperately short of soldiers. Many of those initial soldiers are dead, wounded or simply exhausted, leaving the military to recruit among a more reluctant pool of men. To fill the ranks, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, last April signed a controversial law that lowered the mobilisation age from 27 to 25. Under the new guidelines, draft evaders can lose their driving licence, have their bank accounts frozen and property seized. Even before the latest mobilisation drive, more than 20,000 men are believed to have fled the country to avoid service, some of them swimming and drowning in attempting to cross Ukraine’s border into Romania. In April, Andriy Demchenko, the head of the Ukrainian state border guard service, reported that at least 30 Ukrainian men had died attempting to cross, though the real number is probably much higher, as some bodies are very unlikely ever to be recovered. As mobilisation officers roam the cities to draft men of military age, many such as Dmytro have hatched plans to leave, fearing they will not survive long on the frontlines. |

lexy2014: what is wrong with telling the US that they are lucky to have the ocean that separates them and that things may go wrong for them in the future?
what was said to him that prompted him to say so?
how does "incorrectly declaring to them that they have been alone from the beginning" make a spectacle in front of the media?
how does Zelensky folding his hands across his chest suggest that he was disrespectful to his hosts?
how did Zelensky roll his eyes and what is the opinion of uncle sam that he shrugged off?
did the same uncle sam accept or shrg off zelenskys opinions?
what is the correlation between rolling eyes and shrugging at Uncle Sam's opinions and not wanting peace?
how is does one equate to the other? Go and rewatch the video. For a moment, Trump was quietly observing until Zelensky made that statement and he changed it for him straightaway. It was at that point things became heated. There is a lot wrong in speaking to your benefactor like that. That is emotional blackmail and a veiled evil wish. Trump returned his negative utterance pronto declaring "they will feel good and very strong". How can someone that needs help come and be saying "ha, you don't know tomorrow oh, hmmmm, things can go awry for you tomorrow oh". That is a terrible person. Virtually everybody will cut the person shut right there. Now I am not saying you have to maintain a servitude, beg beg posture when you need help, but you have to be diplomatic and very picky in your utterances. Anything contrary, the end result is that you'll be ridiculed and you'll get nothing. And that is what has happened. Please think am now. You have someone you are sponsoring, say in school, and during a rendezvous with your entire family members the person kept declaring "I have been alone from the beginning". It is disrespectful if you want to be sincere. Nobody will tolerate that. I wont even tolerate such utterance from the child that came from loins. I've committed an amount multiple times some other families annual budget to you and you have the audacity to be telling me to my face, in front of my entire family that "I have been alone from the beginning". Invariably saying my support has been non-existent. No! That is incorrect. They have not been alone. They were kept afloat by US weapons, financial and intelligence support. He's trying to be clever by half! He's being arrogant and cunny. Trump was right to interrupt and correct him that they have not been alone. Though Trump as a person can be brash and imposing, but Zelensky himself is a diplomatic disaster. |

JimD: Russia's military has been severely weakened. 300k soldiers lost since the start of the war.
If I were Trump, this is the time to actually be more aggressive with Russia and get Putin to back down. He would have secured respect for the U.S. and easily gotten access to Ukraine's minerals.
Ukraine has lost more soldiers though. But as small as that country is, they weakened Russian defence.
And even if there was to be a ceasefire (which I doubt), Putin will never forget the role the U.S. played. U.S and Russia may be friends now, but it's just for a short moment. History doesn't lie! Russia's military bore some heavy casualties but not severely weakened. The military is still very potent. Russia only committed a fraction of its forces to the war and maintains like 60% as a deterrent in case of another front opening up during the war especially with NATO. Russia's military doctrine is more of a slow grind. And despite the slow grind, they will keep advancing. Support Ukraine with another 300 billion dollars and you'll see that in the next 3 years, they will still lose more territory. And war has its cost. As Russia is bearing the cost, so also is the US and its Europe allies even though their cost is only financial, but cost is cost. That is why the thing dey pepper Trump and a number of Americans. Russia has adjusted his economy to war time economy and can go on with this war for ages. |

MERCHANDISER: I just watch all Zelensky's video with Trump now. his actions at the Oval Office show that he doesn't have the experience or skills needed to handle politics and international diplomacy. His behavior was either a sign of inexperience or of someone high on drugs, and it raises questions about his ability to lead Ukraine during such an important time. Whether you like it or not, Ukraine is a key country in Europe right now, and it needs a strong, capable leader. I think it's time for Zelensky to step down and let someone more experienced take over.
What he did during his meeting with the U.S. President was embarrassing. Even someone like Putin, who is one of the most powerful leaders in the world, wouldn’t act that way. The idiot reiterate the same propaganda narratives in front of the American leadership, who are well-informed through their extensive intelligence networks, was both tactless and counterproductive. Claiming that Ukraine still has sufficient manpower to continue the war, accusations that Putin violated the Minsk agreements, and assertions that Russia disregards prisoner exchange deals—all delivered in such a setting—only serve to undermine Zelensky's credibility. saying these things in front of the U.S., a country with global intelligence and the one providing Ukraine with support, makes no sense. It’s clear he us not being honest, and it hurt his credibility.
The fact is Zelensky doesn’t really want peace because if the war ends, he might lose his position as president. Peace would also mean he’d have to answer for his actions and decisions during the war. Ukraine deserves a leader who can handle these challenges wisely and work toward real peace and stability. You are very much informed. I doff my hat |

JimD: What most of these shallow thinkers like the op don't know is that:
1. Trump is only after Ukraine's minerals. Ukraine's minerals will help the US develop AI chips and military equipment. That's what Trump is after.
2. Any cease fire deal agreed upon will likely be broken by Putin. Trump thinks he can control Putin as master negotiator . But Putin is more strong headed. He has broken all past agreements with Ukraine.
3. If you want to end a war, you don't use the biased approach Trump is using. You blame the aggressor, not try to cow the oppressed into submission. He is going to escalate things further. And Ukraine will have to bank solely on NATO for support. Trump does not want his country to be drawn into an endless conflict. They have already financed the war to a large extent and have seen that Russia cannot be defeated militarily by Ukraine except the US and others put boot on ground. And that in essence starting a World war 3. They do not want that! You cannot just allow your country to be drawn into a war when there are options to avoid that. That is the same mistake this Zelensky made that resulted into this senseless war. Now despite all his mouth from the beginning to date, more than a million lives have been lost, millions have fled the country and they have lost more than 25% of their geographical space. This would have been avoided if he had used diplomacy and tact with Russia from the beginning. You cannot come with empty hands and wants to dictate terms using only emotional blackmail. It doesn't work. What the US is simply telling him is that they have tried for you. Despite our support, Russia is gaining ground slowly. After 300billion dollars have been spent in support, and going to 4 years, 25% of the country have been lost. It's commonsensical that if you continue on this path, you'll still be loosing ground slowly except we up our support significantly. Upping our support significantly without anything to gain in return no longer makes sense to us. Why should the resources of our country be used to finance your war and you still have the effrontery to even be saying you have been alone from the beginning. You guys should not think it twice, survival of the strongest is still the mantra out there despite all the cool and nice new world order. |
