Politics / Re: See The Best President Of America That Presided From A Wheelchair by Aganju849: 3:20am On Jul 31, 2022
PureFace1:
For Many of you campaigning against Tinubu because of health and age, although it matter it is not what matter most and a priority. One of the best performing president of America that led them through the greatest depression, economic crisis and world War 2, presided from a wheelchair.

What we should make a priority is the policies and ideas of presidential candidates and wether they have the capability to implement it.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was not healthy like Tinubu he was almost paralysed and still performed as a president, because it is brain job not a sport.

Paralysis to presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt

At the 1920 Democratic convention Roosevelt won the nomination for vice president on a ticket with presidential nominee James M. Cox. Roosevelt campaigned vigorously on behalf of American entry into the League of Nations, but the Democrats lost in a landslide to the Republican ticket of Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge. Roosevelt then became vice president of a bonding company, Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland, and entered into several other business ventures.

In August 1921, while Roosevelt was on vacation at Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada, his life was transformed when he was stricken with poliomyelitis. He suffered intensely, and for some time he was almost completely paralyzed. His mother urged him to retire to the family estate at Hyde Park, but his wife and Howe believed it essential that he remain active in politics. For his part, Roosevelt never abandoned hope that he would regain the use of his legs.

Unable to pursue an active political career as he recovered from polio, Roosevelt depended on his wife to keep his name alive in Democratic circles. Although initially very shy, Eleanor Roosevelt became an effective public speaker and an adroit political analyst under Howe’s tutelage. As a result of her speaking engagements all over New York state, Roosevelt never faded entirely from the political scene, despite what seemed to be a career-ending affliction. In 1924 he made a dramatic appearance at the Democratic convention to nominate Alfred E. Smith, governor of New York, for president, and he repeated his nomination of Smith at the 1928 convention. Smith, in turn, urged Roosevelt to run for governor of New York in 1928. Roosevelt was at first reluctant but eventually agreed.

As he traveled by automobile around the state, Roosevelt demonstrated that his illness had not destroyed the youthful resilience and vitality that had led people such as Howe to predict great political success. He also showed that he had matured into a more serious person, one now with a keen appreciation for life’s hardships. On election day Roosevelt won by 25,000 votes, even though New York state went Republican in the presidential election, contributing to Herbert Hoover’s landslide victory in the 1928 presidential election over Smith.

Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.
Succeeding Smith as governor, Roosevelt realized he had to establish an administration distinct from that of his predecessor. Accordingly, he declined to appoint Smith’s cronies to state office and did not look to Smith, the “Happy Warrior,” for guidance. Smith, already stung by his defeat for the presidency, was hurt by Roosevelt’s apparent lack of gratitude, and a breach developed between the two men.

During his first term, Governor Roosevelt concentrated on tax relief for farmers and cheaper public utilities for consumers. The appeal of his programs, particularly in upstate New York, led to his reelection in 1930 by 725,000 votes. As the depression worsened during his second term, Roosevelt moved farther to the political left, mobilizing the state government to provide relief and to aid in economic recovery. In the fall of 1931 he persuaded the Republican-dominated legislature to establish the Temporary Emergency Relief Administration, which eventually provided unemployment assistance to 10 percent of New York’s families. His aggressive approach to the economic problems of his state, along with his overwhelming electoral victory in 1930, boosted Roosevelt into the front ranks of contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1932.

Because winning the nomination then required a two-thirds vote in the Democratic convention, even a leading contender could be stopped with relative ease. It soon became apparent that Roosevelt’s strongest opposition would come from urban and conservative Eastern Democrats still loyal to Smith; his strongest support was in the South and West. The opposition became stronger when John Nance Garner of Texas, speaker of the House of Representatives, won the California Democratic primary. But on the third ballot at the 1932 convention, Garner released his delegates to Roosevelt, who then captured the required two-thirds vote on the fourth ballot. Garner received the vice presidential nomination. Roosevelt then broke tradition by appearing in person to accept his party’s nomination. In his speech before the delegates, he said, “I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people.”

With the depression the only issue of consequence in the presidential campaign of 1932, the American people had a choice between the apparently unsuccessful policies of the incumbent Hoover and the vaguely defined New Deal program presented by Roosevelt. While Roosevelt avoided specifics, he made clear that his program for economic recovery would make extensive use of the power of the federal government. In a series of addresses carefully prepared by a team of advisers popularly known as the Brain Trust, he promised aid to farmers, public development of electric power, a balanced budget, and government policing of irresponsible private economic power. Besides having policy differences, the two candidates presented a stark contrast in personal demeanour as well. Roosevelt was genial and exuded confidence, while Hoover remained unremittingly grim and dour. On election day, Roosevelt received nearly 23 million popular votes to Hoover’s nearly 16 million; the electoral vote was 472 to 59. In a repudiation not just of Hoover but also of the Republican Party, Americans elected substantial Democratic majorities to both houses of Congress.

In the four months between the election and Roosevelt’s inauguration, President Hoover sought Roosevelt’s cooperation in stemming the deepening economic crisis. But Roosevelt refused to subscribe to Hoover’s proposals, which Hoover himself admitted would mean “the abandonment of 90 percent of the so-called new deal.” As a result, the economy continued to decline. By inauguration day—March 4, 1933—most banks had shut down, industrial production had fallen to just 56 percent of its 1929 level, at least 13 million wage earners were unemployed, and farmers were in desperate straits.

In his inaugural address Roosevelt promised prompt, decisive action, and he conveyed some of his own unshakable self-confidence to millions of Americans listening on radios throughout the land. “This great nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and prosper,” he asserted, adding, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

The drivers here knows what to do, atleast they can "TRY"....But they don't care because it is one of them...Deep down, some of them are happy that one of dem don scam successfully...if it's the other way round and someone took their 900 naira, they will post the person papa, mama and ancestors join..An average naija has criminal tendency, they only react if they are not the one enjoying the loot, or atleast one of them.....

Why hasn't Uber itself helped him by placing a lien on the driver's earnings? It's simple: cash or card is the approved payment method, anything outside of it is your own personal business. Drivers get scammed here because of transfers, it's difficult to park in public places in Lagos and wait for alert, so many driver's have lost their wages as a result of this.

When they tell you to hold your cash before your enter ride, e get why. You no fit enter danfo dey tell driver say na transfer you wan use pay.

Former Governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomole said Atiku is destined never to become the President of Nigeria, according to him becoming the president of Nigeria and leadership bothers on character, he said "Atiku desparation is so obvious,

he is so desparate that in 2003 it is on record that Atiku Abubakar challenged his own boss President Olusegun Obasanjo then that he should not do a second term as Nigerian president and in the end they fought Naked at wuse market, subsequently, Atiku decamped to join ACM(Action congress of Nigeria), I was in ACN then, we offered him the ticket, like father Mbaka will say, he became like a big bird, like a vulture that could not fly,

and he lost that election, once he lost, he returned back to PDP, he contested again in the primaries against Goodluck Jonathan and He lost the nomination, and because he has only his interest in mind, he(Atiku) decamped again from PDP and returned to APC, he joined us in Lagos, rolled out the dollars, and president Muhammadu Buhari has to say to the APC people and myself inclusive, I have no dollars to give,

I do not have intel or item, I do not have foreign account and even if I have I will not give, all I offer is all my heart, the APC guys

Crime / Re: Advice Needed Urgently About These Security Guys Please by Aganju849: 4:17am On May 27, 2022
professore:
Dear nairalanders this issue seems small/trivial but it is not, and it is bothering me. Personally, I have not been lucky with friends, they end up becoming envious and bitter for no reason, but obviously because of my qualities so I am very careful with people and I "choose" my friends wisely (I choose them). So I will like to go straight to the point now.

I relocated to a new house. So after a (very) long walk from my house there is a gate one must pass through to get out of the place and then you can begin to see bikes, etc. What I noticed was that throughout the first month I got to the area, the gate was unmanned as it was free. Soon after that I started noticing the presence of a security guy (he should be in my age bracket or 3 years older). Each time I went out or came in he would ensure he seized an opportunity to greet me even when I deliberately looked away "welcome Sir" and I would say "well done". But I was not comfortable with this because I noticed he wasn't greeting other people that passed through, so why me? Like he came there to get to know me. Moreso, I have always known the best thing is to avoid people you really don't want to have anything to do with (he won't find me a job or add anything to my life and I really don't want to know him). Note that, I walk alone here as I know nobody. So as time went on he would greet me then I would just act like I didn't hear.

Later they became two, they would greet me then I would just pass on my own. Now it's well over a month, that I stopped responding to their greetings, but they still greet me despite silence.

One day, for the first time I saw someone I know in the area and we went through the gate together, we saw one of the two security guys, he didn't greet me, it's about two weeks now and I have not seen that particular security guy there (the question is why?)

Now, the other one is always there. This morning he greeted me as always, I gave no reply as usual, when I came back in the evening same greeting, then I stopped and stared at him, I wanted to talk but I changed my mind and walked away and he saw that. So I went out again and this guy now really stood up greeting me like a pal of his.

Nairalanders what do you advice that I do, this is not normal, what interest do they really have in me. Because if you know someone is not responding what a normal human being should do is stop greeting. I think the devil want to use them. Because as it is, I'm enraged by this act and I know the intent is they have is not pure.

Thank you pals.

They want you to be dropping small bar for them, like 200 once in two weeks, then sallah, christmas, 500. That's how they survive because their salary is very small.. Those are essentially underemployed people, imho more of a security risk than anything else

Politics / Re: How Politicians Pushed Me To Contest, Collected All My Savings – Ex-ig by Aganju849: 11:15pm On May 26, 2022
ArewaNorth:
A former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mike Okiro, has revealed how some unnamed politicians allegedly “swindled” him out of all his savings when he contested Senate seat after retirement.

Okiro, who spoke in Abuja at a programme tagged: “Presidential aspirants’ media interactive platform” organised by New Nigeria Dream Initiative (NNDI), explained that some group of persons tricked him to join the political race after he left office and gradually collected all his money till he was left with nothing.

The septuagenarian lambasted Nigerians for always collecting money from politicians when seeking elective positions, saying they are the problems of the government and “we have more faults than the politicians”.

The former police boss and 13th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, who served between 2007 and 2009, cautioned Nigerians to say “enough is enough” in 2023 by rejecting politicians’ money during the voting process.

He said, “Nigerians will talk about the leadership deficiency, but I say no, that is not enough! It takes two angles! If leaders have deficiency, we have followers’ complacency! Because if leaders are behaving, we just laugh, wave at them, and say walk and go! And they will do the same thing again.

“But if we say no! Enough is enough, they change! You go, they give you money for votes so that you can vote for somebody whether the person can perform or not! They give you N5, 000 and you look for four years. That means the N5, 000 is your due for four years.

“I am talking about this thing because once in a time, the politicians have faults but we have more faults than the politicians. I have an experience, let me share the experience, I corrected myself and I said bye bye to that thing.

“I contested election in Abuja here, Senate. I was on my own when they called me to come and contest. I said I have just retired, they said no, come and contest! I said Okay, I will discuss with my wife. I told my wife and she said I am afraid.

“So, they would come to me and say we want to go here, bring money; we want to do this, bring money; we want to do that, bring money; I gave all my savings, nothing again to give. They came one day, I said I was not going to give more money because I have nothing to give you.

“They told me the former man was not doing very well but I should come and try. You want me to give more but where do I get money from? I said okay, let’s do it this way, assuming I now go to borrow money or sell property to give to you, and I am elected, of course, the first thing I will do is to pay back that debt and all the property I sold, I buy them back.

“I know that after four years, there will be another election, I will reserve money for that election so that I will not borrow again. You people are the fault of this government. We should say no to election vote sellers.”

He added that Nigerians should jettison voting of political parties and ensure they bring in someone with good track records who can deliver dividends of democracy to them.

He added, “We’re not going to follow bad wagons, we are going to vote for people irrespective of their political parties. It can be A B C D or UAW or whatever party. We will look at individuals. Is he good?

“Look at his track records! Look at people who are qualified, not where they come from, irrespective of the party they belong to, to make sure that if they rule us, the dividend of democracy will reach everyone.”
