OK South African army is 250 years old then!
Bwahahah, Liar grin grin

South African army is only 104 years old.

"The South African Army is the army of South Africa, first formed after the Union of South Africa was created in 1910."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Army

Nigerian army is 150 years old !

"The Nigerian Army yesterday commenced celebrations to marks its 150 years in existence. The Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major- General Bola Koleoso, said at a media briefing in Abuja that the 2013 Nigerian Army Day Celebrations (NADCEL) will hold between June 28 and July 6."

MikeCZAR:
A. 4 Frigates.

1. Operational standby:

Last year SAS Isandlwana was on standby when her crew were called to rescue yachets from the Cape to Rio race experiencing difficulties.

This ship is also used in exercises.

2. Operational:

One frigate is on normal patrol at sea.

This one again is also used in exercises.

3. Refit:

One is refitted with new various systems excluding weapons.

4. Training:

To test and qualifying new frigate crews whom just finished training on simulators and passed their tests one frigate is used to train and qualify crews. Officers are tested on this platform.

With this cycle the navy won't experience having all 4 frigates in dry dock undergoing refit or maintenance after operations.

Again lessons are learned from each frigate like what difficulties are the vessels experiencing at sea.
South African navy is dead !

Only 1 frigate....and no diesel !

You don't know who was counting and who was not, do you Auguby? Do you?

Nigerian defence HQ published its figures because it was inside the war zone, and is a recognised insitution. Any other recognised institution that is based inside the war zone can come forward with it's own count....let us see it...name that institution

Number estimated by escapees.

The BBC does not trust your claim together with the world at large. You can downplay number of casualties in Nigeria but you can never solve the problem. BH will come and kill 100 and you will come out and claim it was only 10 and in the mean time is not solving anything. It will only send message to the world that BH is not just bad as we thought and that Nigeria is not needing any international help.

Numbers given by escapees, do you know who an escapee is? Someone who was too afraid to wait and verify anything so he runs away from danger.

Your escapee reporter did not wait behind to count a whole 2,000 dead bodies, he has already escaped from the town before battle ended, he has no figures that he personally counted.

You killed your own argument. Telling lies has a way of backfiring on the liar

Whose logical reasoning? Yours? Lol.

The same logical reasoning that makes you think that this thread is an international research site? So typically nigerian.

A military researcher will use a peer reviewed source. Information that does not need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Not some website in die plattelande van wus Afrika.

Sorry bra, nairaland Is useless for research. Even Wikipedia is better. Nairaland is no more than an entertainment value site that no one should take seriously beyond that.

Bwahah posters are researchers like beegeagle is a researcher? A rumour monger that occupies the gap left by Nigeria's weak military publishing industry? Sure man. A site that is 80% SA and Nigerian offers insights on who has the best military in africa.

SHOW ME ONE PAPER THAT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED WITH THIS FORUM AS THE SOURCE RELIED ON.

Just. One.

I don't want your logic man. It's kak logic
Last year, an American academic researcher came on this same nairaland forum to ask us for information on military medical corps for African militaries.

Henry, Patches, Andrewza, Mike and others posted information and photos as well as web links for the researcher.

People use the web link we sources copied from nairaland without telling anybody.

There is currently no naval war in anywhere in the whole world . All the world fights against today is piracy, and Nigeria leads Africa in that area. NNS Thunder can sink 31 of the 36 naval forces in Africa, they won't even know when the Thunders 76mm main gun hi..ts some of them 10km away

UPDATES ON BAGA BY GEN. CHRIS OLUKOLADE (Defence Spokesperson)

@GENOlukolade: My attention has been drawn to a sponsored opinion in a Chadian Newspaper, The Government of Chad does not share this sentiment.

The Sponsored piece on Chadian Paper Al-Widha claims Chad Govt refused to cooperate with our Military because we are allegedly corrupt.

It is merely another remark to trumpet the campaign of local and foreign sympathizers or collaborators of terrorists operating in Nigeria. None of those meaningless allegations of corruption has ever been proved. They are just diversionary and a tool for detractors.

South Africans' false information busted ! shockedshockedshocked

Only 150 people including Bokos died in Baga

.[/size]

The Defence authorities have faulted the claim that over 2,000 people were killed in the Boko Haram attack on Baga, the headquarters of the Multi-National Joint Task Force on January 3.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, said this during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday. He said that 150 people including a large number of members of the Boko Haram sect were killed in the confrontation.

Olukolade explained that many of the residents of Baga and the nearby communities had fled the area because of incessant attacks on their towns by the Boko Haram sect.

He added that many of the residents of the community were able to flee the area while the battle between the soldiers and the insurgents lasted.

Olukolade said that the figures being reported and attributed to eyewitnesses were exaggerated.

“…It is however necessary to inform Nigerians in the interim that the exercise so far has not corroborated the report on the casualty rate which was put at 2,000.

“From all available evidences, the number of people who lost their lives during that attack has so far not exceeded about 150 in the interim. This figure includes many of the terrorists who were bearing arms and got killed in the course of their attack and battle with troops.

This is standard for any navy in the world

The so called 1/3 rule

We just finished major naval exercises, repars and maintenance must be done. Vessels suffering damage during a year of high tempo operations is not unheard of and is to be expected.

Further, that Valour Class that has been under maintence for a year is about to become operational again - and the Amatola will take its spot and begin refit

Also, a damaged engine does not prevent a Valour Class frigate to perform training operations in false bay (Spionkop had an engine removed when it was slated for refit in 2009 and performed training ops in the bay for a whole year while waiting its chance jn dry dock)

This is how professional navies run - maintenance, maintenance, maintenance

Maybe if you followed our lead the Aradu would put to sea once every 5 years

And as a final point, the fact that the Warrior Class OPV's have come on line and the naval base in durban is nearing the end of refurbishment means that soon the valour class will not be not be needed for 24/7 patrol of the Mozambique channel - meaning the maintenance backlog can be adressed and that wear and tare on the vessels will be more than halved

And let me remind you - 1 combat ready frigate and 1 combat ready sub is one of each more than you [will ever] have
is enough to defend against any nation in sub saharan aftica
You boasted for 3 days on this forum in November that this 2015 your 4 frigates and 3 submarines will be doing force projection inside Nigerian oceans in the gulf of guinea, now mechanics report say 80% of Mandela's navy have engines knocked out of service, your ships and submaries are being infested by cockroaches in your naval base, yet you were deceiving us that your navy rules Africa ! grin grin
