Seleka rebels disputes South African army casualty numbers

"General Hassan Ahmat, commander of the 558-strong Brigade Rouge, said in Bangui this week that he and his seleka rebel men had killed at least 36 South African soldiers and captured 46, releasing them soon afterwards."

when south africa fights a war, the truth about casualties is never known. lets quit this old topic.

Your small little head doesn't understand that the photo you used comes directly from this article. The article and the photo are inseparable. So once and for all, decide......either the whole article is true, or it is all lies. Meaning your photo is also lies. Here is your proof, from the mouths of our SELEKA enemies that we fought hard. Not ran away like you claim.

SA soldiers carved us up, say rebels
Stephan Hofstatter and JAMES OATWAY in Bangui | 03 April, 2013 00:44

“We fought very hard for one and a half days. They had very good weapons and very good fighters,” said corporal Mohamed Tahir of a battle in the capital Bangui that he took part in, which left 13 South African soldiers and apparently hundreds of rebels dead or wounded.

Several of those interviewed bore battle scars, including bandaged heads, feet and limbs. The rebels said the SA troops made it “very, very difficult” for them to take the town and sweep president Francoir Bozize from power. The fight put up by the SA troops was so ferocious he believed they were facing over 400 men – almost double the actual number.

“They had every kind of weapon that they were fighting against us with – heavy weapons,” said Tahir. “It was a very difficult battle. We lost more than half of the the men only in my unit of 500 men.”

Captain Amin Nodjokama described it as “big, big battle – it was very hot! It took a long time and the fighting was very heavy with a lot of dead and wounded on both sides”.

Your Seleka boyfriend is admitting openly that he lost over 250 men in his unit ALONE. Now you still don't believe we killed hundreds of them. Hahahahahaha....again you embarrass yourself.
do you understand english language ? i dont speak afrikaans/zulu. can we still talk ?

i said post us a neutral/non-south african weblink source to prove seleka lost 800 soldiers. i dont trust a south african news paper propaganda lie, @Msauza is an example of how much you south africans tell lies to the world.

however, note that the source you quoted says south african army was armed with heavy weapons, which you and your friends have constantly denied.

the seleka loss of 250 men is from a south african source and you lie too much, even on this thread, telling lies and deceiving people is south africa's tool for making a great public image for itself.

show us a reliable source of facts from any of Reuters/BBC/CNN/VOA/AFP/RFI/DW/etc, not a south african ego booster newspaper.

Msauza: Just check how the SA Boers defeated the British.

Nigerian soldiers replaced the British army in Burma d.eadly jungle war and defeated Japan's great army in world war II.

please leave this old topic discussed much during your absence from this forum. south africa was held to a draw in its most recent war with cuba circa 1980-1988. period. game over.

saengine: So let me just understand what you are saying. You are saying that the SELEKA commanders in that article that YOU took the picture from are lying? You're saying that those two commanders who have been mentioned by name don't exist, or they are making up the story about us fighting well. But at the same time you are willing to use the picture from the article that you claim is a lie to make your point. So everything about the article is a lie, except the part of it that you wanted to use....i.e the picture? Hahahahahaha.....what an embarrassment!! Show us a weblink of a similar picture from another source, otherwise that picture is also fake. Hahaha...wow, what a nice laugh im having
you did not pass high school final exams ? that post i made did not quote any source for the Seleka Gecko vehicle photo, how can you 'manufacture' a source for me and attach my name to it ? what kind of education do you have ? an over-rated south african school ? grin
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 8:54am On Jun 19, 2013
Msauza: Dude, I have read on the newspaper that Bozize's government offered South African contingent military vehicles to use throughout the mission. By the way what do you call that kind of vehicle since I have never seen that in South Africa?

saengine: I told him he was incorrect. And you yourself are incorrect to say its used by special forces. It's almost exclusively used by our paratroopers to move around heavy motars.
i am correct, both SANDF paratroops and special forces use Gecko, you will embarrass yourself less if you quit spending your time on how to 'embarrass' me with issues of little value.

saengine: I gave you a valid, well documented reason why SA developed the Rooivalk. Most of SA's well known weapons systems were developed because it was illegal to sell us arms. Now when you have no come back you reply with this nonsense. How sad.
south africa had same problem with Mirage 2000 jet fighter, why did she not develop a jet fighter instead of modifying Mirage into Cheetah ?

Rooivalk was targeted at a world market as a 'better' helicopter gunship made in south africa, but it failed. let me tell you why, and go tell DENEL to learn from its mistake :

the rival Mi-35 hind was a market success because it is a modular weapon. Rooivalk is not modular. learn and be wise.

saengine: Hahahahaha. What I love about this picture is that its taken from the article in which a Seleka commander cleary states we killed hundreds of their men, and fought very well. Explain that please agaugust? You claim we ran away, and yet the link you use quotes our enemy stating we fought bravely. You have shot yourself in the foot.
you fist explain the fact that your country man @Msauza denied that Gecko is a south african military vehicle....and bury y.our head in shame grin

show us a neutral/reliable/non-south african web-link source where seleka says hundreds of its soldiers died while only 13 south africans died. that kill ratio is unheard of in modern war when you are outnumbered ratio 10:1, then y.ou kill in ratio 60:1 and you still say you were less armed and not using your highly rated weapons....even american world best army rangers could not kill local somalia rebels in ratio 60:1 during black hawk down...check war history, stop F00LING yourselves.

saengine: And the point of this essay is what? To somehow convince yourself that the F-7 jet is not obselete by today's standards because it was made by the Chinese? If you want to live in a delusional world, then so be it. If this debate was taking place in the 1980's then you would have a fighting chance with regards to defending the honour of your F-7's. You'll be firing your missiles at who exatcly? Because any 4th and a lot of 3rd generation fighter jets would have shot you out of the sky before you even knew they were there. Buying the F-7 was the biggest mistake the NAF has ever made.
nobody has said F-7 jet is a great jet, and the manufacturer built it for a purpose....low cost, low maintenance, low threat war zone jet fighter and it does that job perfectly.

nigeria did not make a mistake to buy it, F-7 jet is a temporary aircraft for nigerian air force.

F-7 jet is not great but deadly, and some of it carries the same radar as american highly respected F-16 jet and PL-9 one of the best air to air missiles in the world today. lets be serious on this thread and not call a wolf a cat.

F-7 jet speed, range, altitude, gun/cannon is about equal to a Gripen jet. F-7 is deadly for its designed role/duty. F-7 jet is far superior to Russian MiG-21 jets.

F-7 jet is currently in use by some of the great top 15 air forces of the world today...

China 360 units of F-7 jet

Egypt 74 units of F-7 jet

North Korea 180 units of F-7 jet

Iran 21 F-7 units of jet

Pakistan 150 units of F-7 jet

F-7 jet is still being produced as at today year 2013 and being sold with European/American radars, HUD, BVR capability, etc.

if anyone is serious on this thread and wants to learn, that a brief about the F-7 jet, Gripen jet is a leopard, F-7 jet is a wolf....Su-30 MKI Flanker is a dragon.

NaijaPikinGidi: what will the AU's function be in an extreme situation whereby the Egypt vs. Ethiopia spat degenerates into a full blown war? Can the much talked about African Standby Intervention Force be drawn into taking sides in the conflict or being a third party altogether in the matter?

What could be the possible scenarios in the matter ... viewed along sub-regional lines or military alliances? How will continental counter-forces be aligned in order to inflame or douse the potentials of war?
any AU or UN intervention military force that goes in between a raging Egypt Vs Ethiopia war to make peace, will end up in pieces !

NaijaPikinGidi: CraigB will call Chinese products substandard yet close to 85% of finished products in South Africa are sourced from or made in China. To Mr. SAEngine and CraigB ... stupid talk is cheap ... use the links below to see what China is to South Africa. Uninformed South Africans like CraigB continues to despise China yet he fails to understand that South Africa can't do without China ...

http://eandt.theiet.org/news/2013/jun/hisense-south-africa.cfm

I don't have to remind you that China is the big "C" in BRICS that SA recently became a member of. China was instrumental in the critical military supplies to ANC fighters during the Aparthied era. Just like South Africa's Indians.

My point is ... don't for any reason try to give China a second-class position when they are globally by far more advanced economically, technologically and militarily than most of Africa combined. Nigeria recognises the importance of bilateral partnerships and understands military economics better, hence we know what we need and from who to get our needs -- based on long or short term threats or national expediencies. When a rated missile from any Chinese made platform is unleashed ... may the heavens help any obstacle on its path.

CraigB ... I am terribly amazed at your empty comments here and I have every reason to believe that Mr. AndrewZA is a fairly better proposition for a South African debater on military issues.

To conlude ... PS:: Please check out the inner label on whatever you are wearing now and stop being in your stupid state of denial.

could be a typing error, and again @Patriot4 is very much a french speaker and is based in france not nigeria, 100% balanced use of two languages for bilingual people is very rare. all south africans on this thread make errors in english spellings and we dont insult them for that because we assume they are bilingual and speak afrikaans or dutch, or others.

Hezron Lorraine: again.its either a win-win or a no-no on both sides.
the country with the better army wins. check war history 1939 to 2013. only an army can occupy land, and nations exist on land. i have not seen a country that is hanging in the air like a balloon or floating on the ocean like a sail boat.

an army on land can be safe from an enemy navy on sea, and if it can repel an enemy air force coming from the air...it wins by taking over the enemy's land territory and the enemy navy has no sea port to dock and refuel, and the enemy air force has no airport to land and refuel.

america/allies/NATO war on iraq started from air and sea, but could not be won until the army got a victory on land.

the army holds the key to final and total victory in war. what do nations fight for ? open air ? empty ocean ? no, occupied land. check war history.

We were not allowed to buy military equipment from America or Europe or anyone, so we had no choice to make it ourselves. And now it doesn't make any sense to buy a foreign attack helicopter, since our infrastructure to make more Rooivalk is available.

CraigB: Aaah! Nice revelation. So, in other words, the Russian AK47 story is Bolluks? Wow, thank you Donian007 for further discrediting your researcher.

If you go back a few posts, you'll see why he was told to go to sleep grin. He'd said the Russian AK47 and Rs are copies of each other. Lovely and thank you.

Now, he also said the Rs are being made without "copyright" (he said) - confusing copyright and patent law shocked (some researcher in the land of "intelligent" people)

Now, your lovely "revelation" leads to a sweet little read about modified weapons that are manufactured under licence. What might those weapons be?

Thank you very much, Donian. I did say your fake researcher got his degree from a Naai-gerian university.

You, on the other hand have just become the hapless chap who's given the family jewels away. You proved your fake researcher wrong on all three counts.

What is it with Naai-gerians and fake credentials anyway? Fake credentials. Fake intelligence (proof being you right now). Fake achievements.

grin grin grin

Oh before we forget, we haven't forgotten about the hapless Chinese jets that Naai-geria bought, which started the whole discussion in the first place. I see the boast around the jets has been abandoned. Rightly so, I say.
many guns copied AK-47, including the FN-FNC of belgium and israeli Galil, so i am still very correct.

if you make childish schoolboy posts, i will not reply. my time is precious to me, and also i dont want to turn into a kid like you. this forum is for mature people who want to discuss intelligently, not a comedy show.

way you are going, you may end up like @gingerbeer on this forum who was ignored by everybody...50 post he made, zero replies he got. none of us wants to engage in replying a person who shows no wisdom, just wants to play comedy.

this is a military thread and so far nobody has gained any military thing from your many posts, so whats your value ?

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
Hezron Lorraine: let's make use of what we have on ground now.let's say the invasion of SA waters is tomao.we should see how our system can fight back.
nigeria invading south africa, it would not work, no navy with year 1980 blue/green water warships will attack a navy with year 2005 blue/green warships. nigerian navy will lose to south africa in blue waters as at today 2013, year 2014 nigeria will win because our news stealth warships have a face to face combat advantage nobody has notice on nairaland.

however, nigerian navy will defeat south african navy in brown waters/coastal waters/inland waters because no navy with 30 units of year 1980 fast attack boats will attack a navy with 300 units of year 2010 fast attack boats.

the game is a one-one draw draw for navies on both sides, they are built differently because their 22km territorial waters are very different by nature, nigeria is shallow and swampy, south africa is deep and clear.

land warfare nigeria is superior to south africa as at today and will defeat south africa due to more artillery firepower about 1,200 against 500, satellite and spy balloon great recce 100% advantage, and the hundreds of more modern modular infantry fighting vehicles, more soldiers about 120,000 against 40,000 then nigerian army's mixed combat tactics built from super powers nations armies in training, and nigeria's better war experiance/track record. nigerian army will absolutely uproot and delete the south african army from the earth's surface.

this is very key to ranking military power because the army owns the land takes the land rules the land. a navy with good ships and submarines will be useless on land, an air force with good jet fighters will be useless and have no airport to take off and land after their army has lost the land battle.

argentina has a better air force than britain in falklands war but had to surrender after the argentine army surrendered to british army.

america and the allies could not defeat iraq until their army moved in to uproot the iraqi army, only an army can occupy land.

Gripen jet threat ? Nigerian army will swallow up the 8 or even 26 Gripen jets with an overwhelming air defence system and the 100% recce adavantage from spy tech from space. south african airforce lacks the capability to execute a SEAD on nigerian military, only super powers can do it, or the lesser powers like Israel, Sweden, Pakistan, Ukraine, etc

based on the above i confidently say nigeria has a better military than south africa.

egypt is the only power to fear, and if they dont execute a lightning strike/blitzkreig, nigeria will bounce back with 'game changer' modular weapons and hold egypt to a draw. nigeria's rapidly growing local defence industry producing rifles, body armour, GPMG, mortars, armoured vehicles, rockets/missiles, robots, drones, spy balloons, stealth missile warships....she can sustain a very long war.

....and egypt may lose to nigeria in urban/city warfare based on experience, manpower, and mixed combat tactics.

saengine: Have you heard of economies of scale? Just because you can do it, it is still too expensive to make it locally (unless you had no choice to do so). Otherwise every country would be making their own products and there would be little trade. So you only manufacture products that you can produce cheaper than your competition and buy the rest.
so what economies of scale made south africa develop and manufacture for its own air force use a tiny fleet of 11 Rooivalk helicopters instead of buying from America or Europe ? and DENEL ran into heavy debt because of it grin grin
