drag_on: speaking about opvs',i just checked the military budget(official).It has 2 opv's paid for 2013. check here:good job my man. i see many quotes of military weapons purchases fro this year with no specific details, just says purchase of new military equipment many times. no wonder SIPRI database said they have information on many nigerian weapons purchases for this year but will only publish them in phases when delivered in phases too. i noticed local purchase of army APC maybe about 50 units in one quote, others may folow. also, there can be funds to buy weapons from special security cash reserves outside the budget. thanks for this document you posted. |

souldust: why do people rate ethiopia better than Nigeria considering the fact that we have more weapons than them, have a defence complex which they do not have or is not as vibrant as ours yet, have better technology than them including the satallites, spy ballons etc that have being shown here. We have a far greater defence budget than them, have contributed more to peace support and enforcement therefore more experienced. So whyare they rated higher?Ethiopian air force cannot survive current Nigerian air defenses not to even mention our new Akash missile systems coming from India. Budget is a major confusion in ranking as Nigeria buys a lot of weapons with money outside regular budget. Most of the 300 new modern fast attack/assault vessels of Nigerian navy were paid for by Nigerian national petroleum corporation,NNPC, not the navy, and over 250 of the 300 vessels cannot be found registered in any arms transfer log like UN, SIPRI, IISS, etc, they go unnoticed and affect our rankings. Ask my opinion, I have googled myself tired for rankings of African militaries, the best is the rankings on this very thread on nairaland forum. Nigerian military is not rated high on many websites because we keep quiet too much about what we have both imported and home made. Nigeria is currently building 70% of a modern Type 056 stealth guided missile light frigate in Lagos dock yard first of such big project in all Africa. Why should Nigeria not be rated highly ? No reason other than ignorance and lack of fact finding. Nigeria is on top level in Africa and will give Egypt competition on her number one spot. I will post a summary of Nigeria vs Ethiopia in military Weapons head to head during this week just to compare strength. Currently Nigeria is the best ally to help Ethiopia against an Egyptian army invasion through the usual red sea route as in 1875 war. This is the kind of war where the brown water Navy will wipe out invading enemy forces, but Nigeria will NOT help Ethiopia, not even to donate one single bullet. Ethiopia did not support Nigeria in B.iafra war, we got a whole air force of latest jet fighters and bombers with pilots from Egypt, Algeria, Sudan. . |

It may fool a civlian navifastion radar.have you personally carried out that test on the sea ? Internet forums is not the place where military weapons are tested by typing on a laptop. Any weapon that is not south African us always being tested on internet by typing private bedroom opinions. Even south African Valour Stealth Frigtes will be detected by radar according to the stealth experts, google information is free, the Valour warship only looking smaller than its real size on radar screen but it will be very much detected. I am not talking about that Sea Eagle vessel's stealth again. Period. |
