$40 million Rooivalk fires Mokopa missile and MISSED target.. Proudly made in South Africa

[/size]

Obsolete Rooivalk helicopter launched the over-rated 10 km range Mokopa missile at a range of 8 km, which followed the laser beam from a Gripen jet, but missed the target.

South Africa desperate for Nigeria's partnership to help develop and produce Rooivalk Mk 2

"Denel Aviation is interested in seeking partners and clients in the development of a new generation Rooivalk...In this process, significant opportunities exist for technology transfer as well as production and MRO participation. He said February's demonstration was aimed at talking to the broader community about the Rooivalk, with interested countries present at the demonstration, including delegations from Nigeria."

What you fail to realise is that we missed at target at a range that most attack helicopters cannot fire their missiles.

Other countries were not making false claims of a 10km air launched ATGM.

You were deceiving the world by claiming a long range that was beyond the capacity of South African technology for an ATGM. Learn your lesson, Denel should be honest next time.

1. Tests.

2. Not production missile.

3. The Hellfire and the Nag ATGMs did miss targets in tests.

Denel said DEMONSTRATION FOR INTERESTED BUYERS not test.

Tests had been done repeatedly before now. Stop lying, its a marketing show to alleged interested buyers not an internal Denel laboratory experimental test.

If the Mokopa had hit target, you wont come here and tell us it was a test. We are not kids or fools here, mister Mike.

No, stop trying to slither away and change the argument

You said it missed an easy shot

So 8km is easy range then?

Plus list attack helicopters that can engage targets at that range

Ps: Mokopa has been ordered

No evidence of any Mokopa order anywhere for SANDF.

Yes, 8 km is an easy target range for a guided missile, it is guided to an electronically marked, programmed, and connected/linked, and already known target.

Yes thats easy target....but visiting air force officers saw a real failure. Sure Denel is embarrased for telling lies in marketing.

They attended for fun?

Yes, as it happens all over the world. Thousands of air forces officers around the world attend many aircraft demo shows and buy nothing.

A demonstration is not a purchase contract. Even the far cheaper T-129 ATAK we have attended demo show and not bought it. There is no Rooovalk talk from any NAF officer. Only Denel is saying it.

Actually the marketed range is 10 km, so why was Denel deceiving the world? I have always said the Mokopa was not ordered because it will not work long range effect, now I am proved right. Surely it will even miss target at 6 km.

Wtf are you talking about?

It said "narrow miss" - so how do we know a soft skinned vehicle would survive?

Also, targeting was done by a Grip - how do we know Rooikvalk would miss if it targeted?

Dude, your argument is ludicrous!!

Marketing propaganda to save face in front of foreign potential customers....narrowly by how many metres? How many metres off target?

ATGM can only kill a tank by directly hitting target.

If the distance is off target by a number of meters, even a soft skin Toyota will escape alive because Mokopa warhead is small, and missing target does not mean it hit the ground beside the target, it can just glide closely beside it and pass by to keep flying aimlessly till missile fuel finishes.

Who will use expensive Mokopa to kill terrorists rag tag old model second hand used Toyota soft skin that costs $5,000 ? The missile probably costs 10 times more than the target. What kind of battlefield tactics is that? Who can afford the financial costs?

None of those potential customers who watched the marketing demo will come back for any reason. They saw combat failure of the Rooivalk, they saw the exact opposite of Denel marketing claims, they saw a $40 million Rooivalk fail to hit a well known and already revealed target with an expensive guided missile that was used even not up to it's claimed range.

Okay, you now say Gripen has poor laser designation capabilities. I see. I agree with you, Gripen is a $60 million jet that CANNOT designate target with the acclaimed and advertised Link ZA superb tactical datalinks that we are told has made Gripen and Rooivalk capable of exchanging target information 'effectively' and the LITENING advanced laser targeting pod, and the 'advanced' Rooivalk cockpits targeting systems, upgraded, state-of-the-art, and the high performance long range many years tested, market ready Mokopa guided missile, and the $40 million Rooivalk allegedly praised for 'super performance' by the UN in Congo DRC, is now missing target, clearly marked, designated, pre-confirmed, Denel planted and location disclosed target that the Rooivalk did not even have to look for....and still fired and MISSED AN EASY TARGET !!!!

African air forces should just do what africaken has said, use $40 million to buy 10 units of Gazelle or Fennec type of scout attack helicopters at $4 million each and go kill Al, Shabab, Boko Haram, Ansar Dine with guarantee of hitting target, cheap air to ground munitions are in the world market.

"Mike Kgobe, CEO of Denel Aviation, told defenceWeb that the demonstration was based on renewed interest expressed in the helicopter, especially following its performance with the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He said February's demonstration was aimed at talking to the broader community about the Rooivalk, with interested countries present at the demonstration, including delegations from Poland and Nigeria. Poland is currently seeking new attack helicopters under its Kruk programme while Nigeria has an urgent operational requirement for attack helicopters to combat Boko Haram militants.

Egypt is also believed to be potentially interested, especially after the United States delayed the delivery of AH-64 Apache helicopters following the military's removal of Mohammed Morsi from power. Although Egypt recently ordered 46 Ka-52K helicopters from Russia, these are earmarked for its Mistral class vessels and the country still requires land-based attack helicopters."

So what have we learnt kids? That those who came did so because they expressed interest in Rooivalk.

As part of the revitalised Rooivalk Mk 2 programme, Denel is moving forward with certifying the Mokopa missile on the aircraft and two missiles were fired during the Rooivalk demonstration on 3 and 4 February, 2016.

The Rooivalk launched the acclaimed 10 km range missile at a range of 8 km, which followed the laser beam from the Gripen, but narrowly missed the target.

Guided missile Mokopa of 10 km range MISSED TARGET at 8 km firing range, so what will happen at 10 km ? What will happen if an attack helicopter missile misses a radar guided anti-aircraft SAM system like Pantsir in real war, not against rag tag rebels ?

Lmao...it turns out Nigeria was part of the international delegation that came to view our "crappy, obsolete" Rooivalk during the demonstration a few weeks ago. I wonder why the Nigerian Air Force would waste their time viewing that machine's capabilities if the experts on here have already stated it's a piece of crap grin grin

Bwahaha grin

Nigeria was invited and we went like others went. Egypt has about 40 Apaches, they wont buy a lesser rated Rooivalk that has not seen 1% of the wars Apache has fought in 20 years of combat history. Nigeria is looking at several helicopters, NAF wont spend $40 million on Rooivalk when T-129 ATAK costs only $20 million and has latest 2014 avionics and design.

Lol, Denel is desperate to find buyer for Roovalk and is inviting countries to look at its show.....Nobody has promised to spend $1 on the Rooivalk, they all looked at it and walked away back home. grin

Where is NN likely to build big ships? Lagos or Port Harcourt? The industry seems growing too fast for the navy's pocket to buy such big ships and oil companies are used to doing lease from overseas. Lagos LADOL shipyard is expanding to build 40,000 tonne ships. I see overcapacity risk. Gotta go slow, NN is only building one landing ship this year.

Our doctors don't just want to be paid peanuts in government hospitals that's why SA has more private hospitals than public hospitals just like in highly developed countries and even when you close down public hospitals, SA health system will not collapse.

I live in USA, there is NO reserve of private clinical practice for local indeginous doctors. Many immigrant doctors have just private clinics where they are their own boss, because it is easier work.

@AUGUSTUS....COORRUPTION RUNS IN YOUR BLOOD

Former aide-de-camp to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe has said another Dasukigate may be imminent if he reveals what transpired in that administration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) picked up Adegbe on Wednesday in Lagos where he was interrogated before he was flown to Abuja yesterday.

It was gathered that ongoing interrogation of the former ADC by operatives of the EFCC could open up a new can of worms, which “could surpass what is now called Dasukigate.”

In December 2015, the Department of State Security (DSS) arrested Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki and turned him over to the EFCC over his role in the $2.1 billion arms purchase scandal.

The money, meant to purchase arms for the military fighting insurgency in the North-East, was allegedly diverted by the office of the NSA as 2015 campaign funds for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was the ruling party then.

EFCC sources said the former ADC may soon give details of all he knows with regards to financial transactions and the dramatic personae involved in the last administration.

Preliminary findings, including recovered documents, were said to have hinted of large-scale questionable expenditure with funds sourced from and outside the arms purchase deals.

Another source said “most of the funds were reportedly diverted soon after the election was postponed from the originally scheduled date of February 14, 2015 to March 28, 2015…”

Among the active participants in the alleged sleaze, was a top official of an agency set up to discourage militancy in the South-South, who is currently outside the country.

At the centre of the interrogation of the former ADC, who has been moved to Abuja, Daily Sun gathered, was the “mind-boggling spending” during the two weeks’ extension of the general election, “which runs into several trillions of naira, when converted from foreign currency.”

Sources said many top Nigerians, “including some very close persons” to the former president, may likely be called to explain and defend their roles in the handling of the funds, a chunk of which was sourced from the agency.

Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren could not be reached for comments on the arrest before press time

Col. Adegbe, who was arrested in Lagos a few days ago, was said to be attending a senior officers course outside the former capital city, but on a visit, when he was picked up for interrogation.

Before him, many serving and retired military officers had been interrogated in connection with the arms purchase deal during the Jonathan administration.

They include former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh (retd) and the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Amosu (retd) as well as some top politicians.

After arresting Dasuki, the EFCC arrested former chairman of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Chief Raymond Dokpesi, former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and former national chairman of the party, Alhaji Haliru Bello Mohammed and his son, Abbah.

The anti-graft agency also arrested former governor of Kaduna State, Brigadier General Isa Jafaru, former minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, and the director of Finance and Administration in the Office of the NSA, Mr. Shauibu Salisu
