Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, yesterday, commissioned a cassava flour factory, aimed at tackling the growing food insecurity in the state, especially as the state population increases.

Fashola also commissioned a 50, 000 capacity automated five unit broiler houses, 64 tonnes per day feedmills, 200 unit of two bedroom apartment for farmers and 2.34 kilometre road network, within the Agric Training Institute, Araga, Epe.

The governor, who spoke at the graduation ceremony of 286 trainee farmers and the inauguration ceremony of the projects at the Agric Training Institute, Araga, Epe, said that the factory could produce 32 tonnes of cassava flour per day.

He stated that these showed that the solution to increased food production locally was about developing new ideas that will create opportunities for the citizens.

He added that there isn’t simple solution to the problem but what is required of us, is to continuously be innovative, focus, truthful and honest about what we are doing.



Lagos to produce 150,000 eggs daily by January –Fashola

Lagos State would, through its farms, produce 150, 000 eggs daily as from January, next year.

Fashola also commissioned cassava flour factory set up as part of efforts to ensure food security.

He assured that his administration would do its best to ensure food security in the state.

The governor spoke at the graduation ceremony of 286 trainee farmers at the Agric Training Institute in Epe.

Fashola also commissioned a 50, 000 capacities automated 5-units broiler houses, 200 unit of 2-bedroom apartment for farmers and 2.34 kilometer road network within the Agric Training Institute.

All these, the governor said, were parts of efforts to increase food production locally.

Fashola stated that the idea behind the Agric- Youth Empowerment Scheme (Agric-YES), “is very simple idea but it has been rigorously developed and unflinching implemented.”

He added that the objectives of establishing the youth empowerment programme was to address the food challenges by engaging youths

The governor said: “The 32 tonnes cassava mills are meant to provide cassava flour, to supplement what the flour mills are using in their production. It is a small beginning, but it shows that an idea that was started four years ago has become a reality.”

Federal Government will soon build a huge petro-chemical facility in Anambra State.

Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egboga, disclosed this after a courtesy call on Governor Peter Obi at the Government House, Awka, last week. He said he was in Government House to share ideas with Governor Obi whom he described as the best Governor Anambra State has had.

Dr. Egboga said the facility which would be sited at Igbariam area, when completed, would be the biggest gas plant of its kind in Africa with the capacity of creating more than 10,000 employment opportunities for the people and make the state the centre of gas business.

The presidential adviser, who stated that gas exploitation will soon commence in the state, noted that the state, especially the Ugwuoba-Awka area has the biggest gas zone in the country.

He explained that the planned National Gas Pipeline System is connected from the South-East to the North through Calabar, passing through Ajaokuta to Kano on to Sahara and will form part of the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline that will take the country ’s gas to Europe.

According to Egboga, the system is equally connected from South West to the North with a connector from South East to the West.

He said part of his discussion with the governor was on measure to ensure early exploitation of petroleum products in the state and commended the governor for his remarkable achievements in every sector.

Nigeria finds oil and gas in commercial quantities in Anambra

About 30 tcf of gas and 1 bn barrels of crude oil has been found in the Anambra River basin in Anambra State, the Director of Engineering standard in the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mr Patrick Onwumere, said in Awka.
Mr Onwumere who led a team of experts to assess the volume of gas and crude reserves in the Anambra River basin as well as gauge the preparedness of the state government in the establishment of an indigenous refinery through its oil company, Orient Petroleum Resources, said the team was impressed with what it saw on the ground.

His revelation was coming on the heels of a confirmation by the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum, Engr. Nnaemeka Nwawka that a large hectare of land for the construction of the refinery which would be sited at Otuocha in Anambra East Local Government area of the state had been mapped out. Nwawka added that the only thing delaying full acquisition of the land is the state governor's signature on the certificate of occupancy (CoO) for the land.
According to Onwumene, his team's visit was a preliminary move which has to do with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the area, the level of land acquisition promised by the governor, and the examination of the extent of work done so far by the Orient Petroleum Resources.

Onwumene also said he and members of his team were interested in seeing that the exploitation of oil and gas takes off earnestly in the state and expressed his team's satisfaction on the state's preparedness to accomplish their exploitation. He said Anambra State had three sources of oil supply which included, the existing local reserve from the Brass/Agip, import from Venezuela as well as the already discovered wells at Oroma-Etiti in Anambra West and Otuocha in Anambra East council areas of the state.
Onwumene said his team found that the state's oil company, Orient Petroleum Resources had maintained good relationships with the host communities, especially those bordering where the refinery would be sited. He added that with the take off of exploitation of oil reserves in the very near future, a lot of jobless indigenes of Anambra State would be gainfully employed.

Some governments in igboland have even privatized radical elements of government. Rochas Okorocha has sold all government enterprises, and has pressured universities to fund themselves by starting their own palm plantations. Anambra and Abia have handed the states schools back to churches and missionaries that build them


Poverty is not as stark in igboland as it is in Yoruba land. Most people can sustain themselves and earn an income. You won't see beggars. Thus the government doesn't need to maintain an expensive welfare state. The state's with the most poverty in Igbo land, Ebonyi and Enugu, as a result have to use more government intervention and thus per capita their IGR is higher because the government does more. Anambra, government or not, will function the exact same way because it's highly republican and entrepreneurial. Abia even more so.



So the end result is the IGR of igbo state can be low and tax policy low to encourage entrepreneurship and do so. The Igbo populace don't like the idea of tax, credit and debt. The igbo states thus have low taxes, don't borrow (except with the mismanagement of Rochas Okorocha who is considered a radical element), and have the lowest debts in the country.







Both methods work, but they're just different philosophies of how to govern and the beauty of federalism is it allows the country to be a laboratory of ideas and different methods. Let the best man win, the competition is healthy, but it's unfair to us IGR to measure economic strength. We all know Ebonyi isn't economically stronger than Anambra so it's a fallacy. If Igbos began using debt to prove wealth they would be the richest, and Lagos the poorest.

....but reality on the ground today = Your entrepreneurial people prefer to exist and perform their entrepreneurial duties in societies where they pay taxes and not your own states where lousy tax collection and evasion is allowed.
