For him to be relating this same term, which I learnt of in my Junior Secondary School Health and Physical Education, as a battle between Devil and God on who causes accidents is really laughable, some sort of unbelievable comedy on ignorance! In case you want to know, the term "Act of God" as used to describe accidents does not have any reference to GOD or the devil. It simply refers to the fact that there are no Guarantees against accident.
Even if a plane was fully certified or fortified, the risk of accidents can never be totally eradicated.
The phrase was not manufactured by the Aviation Minister, nor is she the first to use it.

Fully fortified plane = Everything is checked and ok with the plane from top to bottom so no accident is expected structurally and humanly down to the engine. So where is this act of God accident?

So, what you are saying is, the NCAA has no statutory obligation to make sure all the planes in our airspace are air worthy and that task belongs to private entities, the airlines and operators? Don Magic Juan: So how is the Aviation Ministry the cause of both the DANA and Associated crashes?
It has been established that both crashes occurred as a result of mechanical faults and not from unsafe airways or airports.
The NCAA should be the authority to answer why these crashes are occurring. The former DG of NCAA was summarily relieved of his position after it was made evidently clear that the NCAA was not doing the job it was mandated to carry out as in the case to DANA crash.

In the case of associated airlines, the paper work shows that they complied with all safety standards i.e. from their technical audits but a combination of shoddy pre-flight checks by both the cockpit and ground engineering crew which led to them not ascertaining the current situation of an aircraft that had been grounded due to lack of patronage led to this unfortunate incidence.
Rather than critically assessing the true cause of these crashes within the last two years as being wholly as a result of lack of professionalism by the operators you have decided to look for a dog to hang in the market place.

During the tenure of Obasanjo there were over seven air crashes from 1999 till 2007. All these air accidents (apart from BellView) occured as a result of poor infrastructure for safe landings and takeoffs.
Throughout this period all the appointed Ministers were Yorubas from Agagu, Borishade and Fani Kayode.

Try and be objective in your criticism and analysis of events.

If your job is to make sure people follow rules and for whatever reason/s they are not following rules and regulation and people are dying because the people they put you in charge of to make sure they follow rules and regulations are not following the rules and regulations, it means you are not doing your job so you are ultimately responsible.

Fashola Commissions Transformer Manufacturing Company

Oct 19, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday commissioned the first transformer manufacturing industry in West Africa, pleading with the Federal Government to consider a downward review of the tariff charged on the imported components used in the manufacture of transformers.

POISED to boost electricity supply to Lagosians through an effective Public Private Partnership scheme, the Lagos State Government has commenced the expansion of its multi billion naira Elsewedy Transformer factory located in Ikorodu area of the state.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, who disclosed this during the commissioning of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) customer care centre in Alausa, Lagos recently said the transformer manufacturing company which is was commissioned in October 2010 is running brilliantly, while arrangements are in top gear to expand the capacity of the plant.

The El Sewdy transformer factory (as known as El Sewedy Nigeria Limted) is a joint venture between Lagos State Government (LASG) and El Sewedy Cables of Egypt.

Fashola had earlier said the government would commit at least $20million for the next stage of investment in the factory to the manufacture meters, adding that El Sewedy is interested in investing up to $100million in the generation of power.

Thanks for your observation. You may notice that I never knocked the Fashola administration on this initiative. I pointed out that maintenance has always been the bane of successive administrations. What he is doing is laudable, I only point out that there are a lot of other areas where this kind of focused drive is needed.

But you stated that you read the whole thread before commenting so that was obviously a lie because it was stated in this same thread that one of the investors is Doppelmayr Cable Car company, they are the best in the business and they built the one in London, this is their work and equipment and they are going to do the maintaining, not Fashola or the Lagos state government....

With the light rail for example, we see the great deal of work that has been put in already and every genuine Lagosian will know the constraint facing the State government Fashola is trying to bridge (see article below). Serious work, that has gulped a fortune, has gone into the light rail and we can all see things are advanced and on course yet some will come here to rain abuse on Fashola when most projects (Lekki Airport, FTZ, light rail et al) are private sector reliant to begin with !!!! Insulting Fashola over such is not an "opinion". It is character assassination borne of bad belle and ignorance. We all know Fashola completes projects. He would be the last administrator in Nigeria to delay a project if uninterrupted funding is available for every stage.

Relatively small-cost PPP initiatives, offering attractive ROI for the Private sector partner and which can be concessioned completely, tend to come on board quicker with minimal fuss and delay like this cable car project costing around $500 million. It is essential we criticise logically and sensibly and a lot of people are not doing that here. This is a good and needed addition to the currently inadequate transport mix that does not come as an opportunity cost to anything else.

Truth be said it's a good idea. HOWEVER, too many past events leave one wondering. Maintenance will be an issue. The current BRT bus system is a case in point. Waterways have also not been full fully explored. The current light rail system is not completed. Too many untied ropes.

We also cannot lose sight of other pressing issues. The education sector is severely lacking, health is almost non existent. Our roads are in such bad shape yet we are forced to pay for mot certification.

A lot has been done but there is SOOO much more to be done.

So, because of your pointless list of shortcomings, we should sit on our hands and refuse to allow $500 million private investments and accompanying jobs?

We should turn our backs on needed infrastructures because the metro is not completed.
