Abok1: I can't help but be amused at some comments by the pro GEJ guys in this thread. It is not out of place for Fashola to take pictures with the Microsoft executives because he is a Diplomat and protocols demands that he shows courtesy by taking pictures. Microsoft is a major player in the technological sphere, and as part of their corporate social responsibilities, they need to give back to the less privileged, which in this case Africa easily comes to mind. By taking pictures is a form of documentary evidence for the archives of the corporation. I'm quite taken aback by the pessimistic tendencies of some pro GEJ pundits who would rather celebrate the bletcherous policies of the aeoliststs in power than commend the efforts of a governor that has the goodwill of the people behind him.

Based on their lust for pandering to their gluttonous appetite, they would rather make gambrinous statements and castigate a governor who has chosen to be proactive in the face of dissenting voices, at a time when looting the national treasury seems to be a thing of pride among the other governors.

They can not help it, thy have to display their lousy complex, ignorance and insecurities especially since they are not uses to progressive and productive governance, they've been so basterdized with corruption, ignorance, incompetence and lousy governance.

Are Nigerians so disillusioned that we have began celebrating governors for taking pictures of themselves governing? How many classroom teachers take pictures of themselves grading tests and how silly would this be?

jazzydee: Why are the apc sycophants defending the indefensible? Who in his right mind will support the looting of 3.2 billion naira in the name of supplying a 10MW of electricity generator to a state, bearing in mind that that same generator will still incur other cost such as gas bills, maintenance cost and administrative cost for effective running, hence adding to the already over inflated cost per unit MW.

If this does not strike anyone as placing the state in economic slavery by its corrupt state administrators then nothing will if 42% of the total 3.2billion contract sum went into the pocket of the corrupt officials then,

i will not be supprised if tomorrow we discover that the cost of Gas supplied to the 10MW plant in lagos is 42% more expensive than the one supplied to similar plants across the country.

I will equally not be suprised if we find out that the adminstrative cost of the 10MW plant is also 42% higher than what is obtainable anywhere else.

The 42% markup will be the amount that goes in the pocket of the corrupt state officials.

This is simply outrageous and every right thinking Nigerian should be appaled by this corruption by our public officials that might end up strangulating all of us.

Well, in the article presented by Mr. OP, he kept realing out the generating capacity of the FG built plants in multiples of 125 MW. I beleive these capacity are the size of each generating units and it will foolish to start comparing a 12MW to a 125MW unit in terms of cost. There are certain things that must be common to both plant irrespective of size. Also to note is the 'power factor' (effeciency co-efficient in layman's language) of the plants in question, the kind of fuel consumed, cost of maintenance, and many other technical factors that may affect cost.

PoliticsBoy,9, Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Microsoft Certified Professional by agbameta(op): 10:57pm On Oct 11, 2013
https://edge.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Boy-360x225.jpg

A primary six pupil of Role Model School, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, has emerged one of the youngest pupils to obtain the Microsoft Certified Professional certificate, SAMUEL AWOYINFA reports

A nine-year-old pupil of Role Model School, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, Jomiloju Tunde-Oladipo, has emerged the youngest Nigerian Microsoft certified professional.

He came tops among 21 pupils who sat for the professional examination in Lagos.

He is now a Microsoft office specialist in office word 2010.

Jomiloju scored 769 out of 1,000 in the examination held in August.

In his examination score report, the slim-built boy performed well in Sharing and Maintaining Documents, Formatting Content, Applying Page Layout, and Reusable Content, among other subjects.

By the feat, Jomiloju has joined the league of young Microsoft certified professionals, including Nigeria’s 10-year-old Anjolaoluwa Seyi-Ojo; an eight-year-old Indian, Lavishnashree, and two Pakistanis, named Arfa and Thobani.

Microsoft Certified Professional is a certification programme provided by Microsoft Corporation. The certification is tailored towards building skills on Microsoft business solutions, focusing on client-end operating systems such as windows XP, Vista, Windows7 among others.

Jomiloju, whose certificate was signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Corporation, Steven Ballmer, says he did not achieve this feat easily, but through persistence and hard work.

He says, “It was not all that easy, because I had attempted the examination last year, I did not make it then. But I remained focused and I put in a lot of hard work.

“At home and in the school, I am always on the computer. After school hours, if am not doing anything, I will go to my Information Communication Technology teacher, to learn more.”

Jomiloju sat for the examination when he was in primary Five.

Relating his experience, Jomiloju says, “In all, I answered 20 questions, after answering a question, the computer takes you to another one. And at times, there will be an instruction to skip the next question. But the programme still directs one to come back to those questions one had earlier skipped.”

But was he really scared having failed once to meet the cut off mark? He stresses that he was really afraid due to his earlier experience but he was optimistic of having success, because according to him, he has prepared well.

He also gives kudos to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tunde-Ladipo, for their support and imbuing in him the ‘can do’ spirit in achieving the success.

He says, “My mum and dad were very supportive. They always tell me never to give up and eventually it paid off. Moreover, they had bought the latest Dell laptop. Again, I am always fascinated about computer. The way it works and the process, and the way it organises data.”

Jomiloju who is a left-handed writer, according to his parents, has been a gifted child. He has always been in love with gadgets. His mum, Toyin, says, “Jomiloju since he was baby had loved playing with gadgets, he was never interested in toys. He would pick up remote controls for both TV and air-conditioner, and he would correctly use them for their specific functions.”

His father adds, “It is not that we are unnecessarily indulging him but he is such a brilliant child. He’s multi-talented. He plays the saxophone, he’s good on keyboard, he acts very well and he’s a good swimmer.

“Each term, he participates in school drama and quiz. He also gets prizes in other subjects, apart from ICT.”

Does Jomiloju want to pursue a career in software/hardware project like Bill Gates and Steve Job? Spotting an innocent smile, the youngster nods his head in affirmative.

His school administrator, Mrs. Adesimbo Banjo, who speaks glowingly about Jomiloju, says the feat recorded by her pupil is a tonic for other pupils.

His ICT teacher, Mr. Mathew Alo, also commends Jomiloju for the feat.

He adds, “Jomiloju was taught all the necessary things he needed to know and he came out as the most outstanding among 20 others from different schools in Lagos.

His class teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Ogunrinola, says Jomiloju takes his studies seriously. She states, “He is not only good in ICT, but in other subjects. He is hard working and well behaved.”

For Jomiloju, he’s not resting on his oars yet, as he says he is still going to seek more Microsoft certifications.

“I still want to sit for more examinations. I will still do excel and power points,” he says.

jazzydee: Aso Rock disclosed at the weekend that its power intervention contracts to the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) contractors were worth $8 billion.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NDPHC), James Olotu, who disclosed this during the commissioning of a transmission facility in Ayobo area of Lagos, said the contracts are to guarantee 4,774 megawatts of electricity.

The contracts, according to him, cover 10 power stations, gas pipelines, hundreds of thousands of transmission lines and other supporting equipment and services.

The Federal Government had voted this amount for the NIPP which began in 2006 and was earlier scheduled to be completed in 2009.

In the framework of the projects, several power stations will be built.

They include the Ihovbor Power Station, Benin in Edo State, with capacity of 4 x 125mw, Calabar Power Station in Cross River State, with capacity of 5 x 125mw, Egbema Power Station in Imo State, with capacity of 3 x 125mw, Gbarain Power Station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with capacity of 2 x 125mw, and Sapele Power Station in Delta State, with the capacity of 4 x 125mw.

Mediocrity is Nigeria producing less electricity that it produced nearly a decade ago and still can not guarantee any hospital or public institution uninterrupted power supply.

1. Can your federal government guarantee our hospitals in Lagos uninterrupted power supply?

2. Can your federal government guarantee our streets in Lagos uninterrupted power supply?

3. Can your federal government guarantee our water works in Lagos uninterrupted power supply?

4. Can your federal government guarantee guarantee our bridges and public institutions in Lagos uninterrupted power supply?

5. Can any other government in Nigeria guarantee anybody or entity in their states uninterrupted power supply?

Of course they can not, only Lagos state government can and this is the idea behind these power plants, they are designed to do what your federal government or any government in Nigeria can not do?

Even other states with all their 400MW can not guarantee anybody or any of their institutions uninterrupted power supply because every MW they generate goes into the National grid which is pretty much useless.

Fashola devised a creative method to go around federal obstacles to provide and guarantee uninterrupted electricity for our our critical infrastructures.

We have almost 50MW and we keep every single MW with miles of underground cable to transmit and distribute far far away from your obsolete National transmission grid, something no other state in Nigeria can do.

This is not about the amount of MW generated, it's the targeted purpose they serve on behalf of the people.

Lagos state built the first IPP in Nigeria @ 271 MW which was a mistake since we didn't get to keep in Lagos state because the FG feeds everything into the useless National grid, it was a terrible mistake and lesson to learn, but we devised a creative approach to get around your mediocre federal government and their BS.

Shebi, a little over 1 year ago it was just 10MW Island project, but today it's almost 50MW and another 114 is in the pipeline so who says we can not reach 1000 or more in no time?

The joke is on you, def not on Lagos state.
