Sincere 9gerian: Dont mind the LIAR. Not only Lagos, even Rivers State is constructing a its own mono rail. Rather than build its own railway, Aregbe is using Osun Defender to claim investment in the Nigerian Railways, which is owned and controlled by FG. What I suspect is that Aregbe embezzled some funds and he is trying to use investment in NRC to cover it up.

Anyway, I'm glad that after bad-mouthing the railways, they'r now full of PRAISE for it. More and more haters must bow to FRESH AIR.
Wetin railway and mono rail get in common? See dullard.. grin

Mumushuku need to send you back to elementary school I swear..

Because the road was ceded over to the Lagos state government.

You asked a dumb question and I qualified it as such. Why ask the state to take care of what's still part of federal monopoly? Why not first ask them to release their unproductive hold and then see what we can do?

Sincere 9gerian: [s]**Crowd besiege Nigerian Railway over Osun’s free train ride

Beneficiaries express satisfaction, ask other states to emulate

Thousands of holiday makers traveling to Osun, Kwara, Kogi states, and other parts of the country, have besieged the Iddo Terminus of the Nigerian Railway Corporation as the free eid-il-kabir festival free train ride provided by the government of Osun state entered its second day in Lagos. The free train initiative of the Osun state government was to help people travelling home for the Eid-il Kabir festival. But indigenes of neighbouring states have also taken the opportunity to get to various destinations when they arrive in the state capital, Osogbo.

A statement signed by the Commissioner of Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Ismail Adekunle Jayeoba-Alagbada, said the train rideis to facilitate stress-free travelling for the people, who are coming home for the festival. The free train ride, which spans five days, commenced on Saturday 12, 2013. For the journey to Osogbo, the train would take off from Iddo Terminus, Lagos, at 11 o’clock daily on Saturday 12th, Sunday, and Monday 14th.

The return trip to Lagos, according to the statement, is fixed for Thursday 17th and Saturday 19th as the train would depart Osogbo at 11 o’clock daily. Mr Jayeoba-Alagbada said the government embarked on the initiative in the past three years to reduce the stress people go through during Easter, Eid –il Fitri, Eid –il Kabir and Christmas festivals.

“We hope our people, wherever they are coming from, Oyo, Ogun or Lagos, would make maximum use of this gesture of the government and promptly too. This is a sign that government has the welfare interests of the people at heart and would not detract from providing same as and when required,” Mr Jayeoba-Alagbada said.

A passenger, Idiat Oladosu, who said she was travelling to Oro, Kwara State, said it was a good opportunity for her to reduce her cost of travelling. Ganiyu Alimi, an indigene of Inisa in Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state, said he had been enjoying the free train ride since the inception of the Aregbesolas’ administration.

Awololo Samson, said though he is not a Muslim coming for any festival, he joined the train in Lagos to arrive in Osogbo on his way to Lokoja as he believed that would reduce his cost of travelling.

PoliticsNew Abuja City Gate Construction To Gulp Us$400million - FCTA by agbameta(op): 4:41pm On Oct 13, 2013
Abuja, NIGERIA - The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Friday said it would soon embark on the construction of a new city gate, to cost N64 billion (US$400million).

The current city gate will be replaced by a new gate which an official says 'would serve as symbol of cultural heritage' for Nigeria's capital city

https://africanoutlookonline.com/images/stories/abuja_city_gate.jpg

The Director, Public Building of the FCTA, Mr Bernard Lot, who made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Abuja said the gate would serve as a symbol of cultural heritage for the nation’s capital.

Lot said that the gate, to be located at Kuje Junction on airport road, would replace the existing one close to the National Stadium. He said the new gate which would be designed to have the Northern, Southern and Central axis of the country, was expected to be executed through Public Private Partnership.

"The Central axis will have pedestrian bridges; the Northern axis would have conference rooms, parade ground, botanical garden, five star hotel and hospital among others. The Northern axis would also serve as a place where a new president would be given key to enter the city.

"The Southern axis of the project, to be sited close to the Centenary City, will be used for commercial activities, such as shopping, amphitheatre, among others.

The FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, during his 2012 media tour, had said the project was meant to restore the city’s original master plan. The minister said the old city gate was wrongly located, adding that the project would also serve as a tourist attraction.

He said that the project would also have social and economic significance to FCT residents and visitors to the city.

With health applications and cloud based solutions..

They floated this idea last year so it's really amazing to see them follow it up aggressively all the way to the US.

Let's say a patient was seen by a doctor at any state hospital in Ikorodu and for whatever reason she shows up at another state hospital in Gbagada, her health info is just a few computer clicks away in front of the doctor in Gbagada detailing who saw her in Ikorodu, what the problem was, what test was performed, what medication was prescribed and so on, even billing is generated automatically and fully itemized.. This makes it easy for health practitioners to diagnose and treat patients effectively and apart from that, it saves time, it saves money and prevent duplications of tests and diagnostics and this ties in with other applications like the stat health insurance scheme and ID.

One thing I love about these Alahusa guys is the fact that they are always on the job, they are always on the move from on great move to the next... They are covering a lot of ground and these are the kind of leaders we hope and pray for.

The agreement is centered on four cardinal programs which are: Implementation of a citizen relationship management platform leveraging on the existing call center infrastructure, provision of IT infrastructure to support Lagos state health insurance initiative, IT skill development and Affordable mobile devices and being a premier partner under the Microsoft4 Africa initiatives which is centered on entrepreneur support
Fashola also said that as part of the agreement, the State has secured the commitment of Microsoft to help train 100 Microsoft certified applications support personnel who will not only support the Lagos State Government but other states in Nigeria to implement Microsoft application and the private sector for both Nigeria and the rest of Africa

According to the Governor, the e-governance will focus on a platform of delivering services to the citizens of Lagos State using smart phones and mobile devices while enabling him to be able to monitor the performance of each Ministry, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the discharge of services and to monitor all ongoing projects especially those around the Medium term budgetary objectives of PATH (Power, Agriculture, Transportation and Housing).

It will also be used to answer queries from citizens regarding the State services, initiate transactions and eventually to completely offer government services via on-line; constitutes another mode of communication without traveling to the Secretariat. The expected kick off date of this initiative is April, 2014.

Fashola said the health solutions will focus on delivering cloud based solutions that will assist pregnant mothers and patients at the 57 Primary care facilities which are being upgraded under the health care initiative of the State.

The cloud Serve will also include a Private Cloud for Lagos State based on Microsoft Technology. This cloud technology will support Lagos State disaster recovery strategy, enhance the existing e-Health platform, integrate existing silos of databases that houses important information such as Health, Education and Budgetary data.

The Governor team which consist of the Commissioner For Science and Technology, Mr. Biyi Mabadeje, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Nike Animashaun and the DG. Financial Management Bureau Mr. Ahmed Mustapha expressed the readiness of the state to deliver on the commitments agreed to under the terms of the memorandum as the availability of IT solutions especially in service deliver further enhances the dividends of democracy to the citizen thus deepening their resolve to embrace it as the best form of government after years of military rule.

He reiterated that ICT is a platform that any serious government committed to service delivery has to embrace and having a worthwhile partner in Microsoft to work with, will help Lagos state to meet this challenges.

Meanwhile, The Microsoft GM worldwide Jeff Fraizer who signs on behalf of Microsoft expresses the readiness of Microsoft to help finance the implementation of a health IT support infrastructure for the state existing community health insurance program which can then be leveraged to support the expected rollout of the state social health insurance program.
This is a great step in the right direction, we need technology to propel every aspects of our lives into the 21 century.
