As a prospective PhD Student (fully funded); while applying for my study visa, I intend to apply with my family (wife & kids) at the same time. Appreciate any advise...

A sound SOP must be well paragraphed and each must serve a purpose. It must contain the following:

Brief introduction of yourself, your academic background and work experience.

Your intending program, school, start date and duration.

Reasons for choosing the program. Reasons for choosing the school. Reasons for choosing Canada instead of doing the program in Nigeria. How will the program benefit you? Narrow the benefits to economic, academic or career.

Is your undergrad degree related to the intending program or your work experience? This must be addressed.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Have your traveled out of Nigeria before? If no, why?

How do you intend to finance your studies in Canada? Scholarship? Self-sponsor? This must be stated with proof (SOA or sponsorship letter) shown.

Make a checklist of all the documents you're submitting with your application.

A well written SOP addresses all the denial reasons: purpose of visit, travel history, insufficient fund, home tie, asset & current employment situation etc.

June 2016 for Fall 2017 resumption - there was no supervisor at that time; my application was moved Fall 2018 session.

Finally got admitted- PhD Engineering (Oil & Gas)@ MUN with funding..... thank God for this phase - it will end in praise.

Officially - No. But I was contacted yesterday by a Prof in Oil and Gas Engr who asked me to immediately change my course from Ocean Engr with graduate school ; that he would be reviewing my application as he sees I posses the relevant skills to work in his research group and that there is a high tendency that he wld be accepting me for Fall 2018. He further went ahead to tell me the specific area I would most likely be researching on - which I noticed is very connected to ocean engr and also my current job role - fingers crossed.

Any info from your end??

Since I am not yet in Canada and do not have an address, what can I fill in the column 'ADDRESS IN CANADA'? Appreciate you help on this ; especially those who have applied for student visa with accompany family.

MUN guys in the house - any update? I called the grad office (engineering) yesterday and they said my application is still pending on when they know about 'possibility of grants / funding' but I should expect a final decision soon-hmmm.

I think you might be eligible for the course based program; all you need to do is apply for it from link provided. In this case, you don't need to provided supporting docs again - just contact Christine. What department did you apply to? I still dey await decision ooo Ocean Engineering

which means fac of engr MUN have started responding to applicants. We can only hope for the best - Ocean Engineering applicant here and still waiting (Fall 2018).

Contact the school on both phone and email, they will tell you whatever the reason for the delay. I did the same in MUN

As long as you file an application for admission and all outstanding documents before the deadline, you will be fine. The scholarship decision is made concurrently with the offer of admission. Scholarship decision cannot be made in the vaccuum until there is an active application for admission. If you are accepted, you will be assigned a student number and access into the full panoply and universe of USASK network and database. As for your chances, I am not privy to your life story and work you have done. High GPA is only one of the criteria. But your life story and the work you have done, scholarly and volunteer humanitarianism, also counts greatly. So concentrate greatly in writing a great thesis proposal and statement of intent. Support them with great recommendations from employees and at least one of your professors. You will stand a good chance.
