Traditional rulers in Cross River State cautioned the Igbos resident in the state against creating the position of Eze Ndi Igbo (the king of the Igbos) in the state, as that would amount to “creating a kingdom where they are not empowered by the law to do so.” The traditional rulers were reacting to the plan by the Igbo community in the state to “install/coronate” one E. A. Ezenweanyi as the Eze Ndigbo of Cross River State. The traditional rulers, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said, “The Igbos have every right to assemble as a community in Cross River State and pursue their legitimate rights under a leader who may be known as President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, President of Igbo Community in Cross River State, but not as Eze Ndi Igbo, a revered traditional title reserved for monarchs in the respective Igbo kingdoms. “The said leader is not to bear the titles of His Majesty (HM), His Royal Majesty (HRM), or His Highness (HH).” The statement, signed by Paramount Ruler of Bakassi and the Chairman, Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council, Etim Edet, and the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, Patrick Agbor, also warned the Igbo leader in Calabar against awarding chieftaincy title, whether traditional or honorary, to any person within the territories of Cross River State. “Igbos in Cross River State can celebrate their day as may be convenient to them and may invite traditional rulers from within and outside the state to attend if they so wish,” the statement added. The chairman of the traditional rulers’ council, Mr Edet, told PREMIUM TIMES, Wednesday, he and others sought for clearance from the councils of traditional rulers in the South-east before issuing the statement. “The response I got from the traditional rulers in the South-east was that the title of Eze Ndi Igbo was an exclusive one for kings in Igbo land and that we should not allow it in Cross River. “I now asked, ‘how about those who have been using it?’ and they told me ‘Those using it illegally have been asked to stop forthwith,’” he said. “There is this example in Cross River State, of one Elunnor who was a medical doctor here in Cross River state. He has a flourishing clinic here. He was the president of Igbo community here in Cross River State then. When he wanted to be a king he went back to Anambra State and at the last meeting I attended in Benin I saw him. He said he is now a traditional ruler in Anambra and he is there. “So, if Ezenweanyi wants to be a king he cannot be in Cross River State; he should go to his place and become a king. “You should be aware that since 2004 or thereabouts, there have been several attempts to do this (have Eze Ndi Igbo in Cross River), but the state government kicked against it. “You cannot be a king and begin to give chieftaincy titles in a strange territory. Where is your kingdom in Cross River state? Where is your clan? This is not about an association, but about kingship which is a creation of statutes. We need to protect it, hence our reaction. “We have Efik community in America, but there is no way you can have Obong of Calabar in the U.S. “Where do you derive your power from to become a king? It is either by statutes or by nature, so where do you derive yours from?” Mr Edet said the Igbo community in Cross River have accepted not to coronate anybody as their king in Cross River, and for showing such understanding he said he has directed the Cross River State council of traditional rulers to attend their ceremony to cement the relationship and encourage inter-ethnic unity and peace in the state. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/south-south-regional/295609-you-cant-have-igbo-king-in-cross-river-traditional-rulers.html |

gentlegenius:I apologize for my earlier comment. Your post shows why we may never get it right. The 48 laws of power talked about coloring choice. People see only A and B when they are many other choices. Democracy is not about voting who would win, but voting the best candidate. Almost all Nigerians know that Buhari and Atiku are not the best for the job, but almost all will vote for either of them This phenomenon is called bandwagon effect. To me the best is Mughalu, but who is better between Atiku and Buhari, to be Buhari by far. If Atiku had held the positions Buhari have (Governor entire northeast, minister of petroleum, head of army under Shagari, Head of State, head PTDF, And President) he would have been the richest man in the world. |
gentlegenius:So the educated you that want someone to do research with Google, can't use the same Google to research about Mughalu that was once deputy governor of central bank, nor could you carry out research on the over 60 other presidential candidates which includes Donald duke. You want to vote a devil because you are too lazy to find out about the angels. Is there a difference between you and the yam seller, after all, he may be richer than you. |
gentlegenius:You that is educated would leave Kingsley Mughalu to be supporting Atiku. |

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met behind closed doors with the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Nnamani said that there are moves to bring those aggrieved during the primaries back to the APC fold. He said “We are still harmonizing; in the primaries and the congresses, there were quite a few conflicts and conflicts are common in political arena. “Right now, we are grappling with the outcome of the primaries, trying to bring everybody together. “We are not asking anybody to go to hell; we are asking them to come together; if you do not do well, there is nothing to cheer; if you do well, everybody will be happy; we are still working on appeasing a number of people so that we can be happy. “APC is a national party and we should do everything to integrate our people, so that we can make progress.” he said. http://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-nnamani-meet-in-aso-rock/?fbclid=IwAR2q9ky3DCkCDSLAEArGhYNPWYkl4f0o09aIWuzNbpK76borfW1aKDvrH3A

An Octogenarian, Alex Ajayi has revealed he was the one that presented the much publicized WAEC certificate to President Muhammadu Buhari and other prominent military rulers in the 1960s. It should be recalled controversies arose as to whether the incumbent president actually wrote the exam or even was presented with a West African Examination Council Certificate. It was one of the allegations leveled against Buhari during his presidential campaign for the 2015 general elections. Ajayi who was born on June 28, 1930 said he became the principal of Fiditi Grammar School in Oyo State at the young age of 26 in 1956 and produced the first set of students in 1959. “ I was the principal of Fiditi Grammar School, Oyo State, at age 26 in 1956 and produced the first set of students in 1959. I ensured that the school was stabilised before I joined the West African Examinations Council.I joined the West African Examination Council as a pioneer staff. I was the first substantive Nigerian Assistant Registrar. I took over the control of the examination from the University of Cambridge. I took examiners to Cambridge for training across 10 years and trained them in Nigeria. I had the opportunity of issuing WAEC certificates to three former Heads of State: Buhari, Abacha and Babangida in the 60s. When I was in WAEC, I was put on the council of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1966 by the national government of Aguiyi Ironsi.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/11/13/issued-buhari-waec-certificate-alex-ajayi/ http://www.nigerianmonitor.com/alex-ajayii-presented-buharis-waec-certificate-to-him-in-the-1960s/

National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for South East, Deacon Austin Umahi has described Fashola’s statement of possible Power return to the South West in 2023 as an eye opener for the Igbo people in the All Progressives Congress, APC. Umahi in reaction said “That’s an eye opener to our so called brothers and sisters who are in the failed APC for their selfish interest and leaking pockets “Most importantly, it is glaring that APC is drowning in all ramifications and Nigerians hve rejected them and will demonstrate it in less than 112 days . “Rebranded and repositioned PDP does not only have Nigeria collective interest but South East in particular. Am convinced that as a party built on fairness and equity, South East surely stands a better chance to take her equity share in Nigeria project come 2023, God’s willing.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/10/fasholas-statement-eye-opener-for-ndigbo-in-apc-umahi/?fbclid=IwAR0jgY2yqDOG54-robTlkU0jSwXeZfqyR7GPSka0t31a5Gd1kRhOn4YDNGY

The Nigerian Army said it has discovered a shallow grave where a missing major general, Muhammed Alkali, was buried after he was killed. The army said the body was later exhumed and reburied somewhere else by the killers, according to the information provided to it by some of the arrested suspects. According to the army, the shallow grave was confirmed by four independent sources in the community and also by sniffer dogs. A PREMIUM TIMES correspondent who visited the area of the shallow grave reports that there is a distance of one kilometre between the main road and the location of the grave. Mr Alkali was the immediate past chief of administration of the Nigerian Army. He was declared missing on September 3 when he was traveling from Abuja to Bauchi State. He is believed to have been killed by his abductors. PREMIUM TIMES reported how the car of the missing general was found weeks ago in the community’s pond after it was drained. A blood-stained T-shirt, a boxer short and a pair of shoes believed to belong to the general were found in the car. Since the discovery of the car, there have been fears the military could attack the community in retaliation. A day after the car was found, the army cordoned off the Dura Du community and arrested 30 suspects in connection with the suspected murder of the general. Apart from the discovery of the missing car, two other vehicles were also recovered from the pond. Following the arrest of the 30 suspects, residents of the community fled for fear of military action but the army pledged to conduct the search with respect for human rights. On Friday, a major general, B. A. Akinruluyo, the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Rukuba Barracks, narrated how the shallow grave was discovered. “Please note that four different sources not known to each other at various times took us to the opened shallow grave where the senior officer was earlier buried but subsequently removed,” he said. “Furthermore, sniffer dogs that have been cultured with the personal effects of the senior officer led us to the same open shallow grave. That was the only grave we were led to by different people and sniffer dogs. We did not go to any other grave as the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence. Nigeria Army personnel on the grave site “Like I always say, the cordon and search operation is intelligence driven and that is why the operation has been conducted in line with international best practices and respect for human rights. This further explains why the (army) division did not clamp down on the entire community. Only the perpetrators are being targeted. “At this point, let me reiterate that all the actors involved in this dastardly act who are still at large are known to us. All efforts are being made to get them arrested and be brought to justice as their photographs and personal details are with the relevant security agencies. “The cordon and search operation conducted by own troops has really exposed the heinous crimes being committed by the few but fully supported and concealed by the entire community. I want to commend members of the public for their cooperation and still solicit for anyone with credible information on where the senior officer was reburied. It is the civic responsibility of the Dura-Du community to produce the corpse of the deceased senior officer and those who were involved in the killing of the senior officer. “Finally, the division also wishes to emphasise its adherence to the principles and respect of human rights in the discharge of its constitutional roles. It further calls on everyone within its area of responsibility to remain vigilant and report any suspected breach of the peace to security agencies,” the major general said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/292641-breaking-nigerian-army-locates-grave-where-missing-general-was-buried.html

Donmedrac:You are talking as if only you is the all Edo people. If you are truly Edo, you would know only Edo north can give Buhari the 25% of the votes. I laughed when you were talking that we would vote PDP because of South East. You must be a learner. As an Edo man, I would tell you on free and fair election, Buhari would not win Edo, but would get about 40%. But with federal might, state might and thugs like Tony Kabaka. APC would easily win Edo. |
The All Progressives Congress says it has right to submit names of its candidates for elective positions in Zamfara State for the 2019 general elections . The APC National Publicity Secretary , Mr. Lanre Onilu, stated this while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, saying it was without prejudice to the Independent National Electoral Commission’ s stance. The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that INEC had , on October 10, said that APC was not eligible to field candidates for Governorship , National Assembly and State Assembly positions in Zamfara State in the 2019 elections . The Commission, in a letter signed by its acting Secretary , Okechukwu Ndeche , said the APC was not qualified to field candidates because it failed to conduct primaries in Zamfara State within the stipulated time frame . SEE ALSO: Married man posts nude photos of ex -girlfriend on Facebook The APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole , while reacting to the development, had insisted that the party held primaries in Zamfara State, contrary to INEC ’s stance . He , however , said that primary election was not the only mode prescribed for producing party candidates for elections in the 2010 amended Electoral Act. “We submitted list of candidates for legislative elections in Zamfara state, if INEC did not take it , it is a different thing . We have a right to submit and INEC has the legal responsibility to receive . “INEC cannot disqualify candidates we all know that . We have said clearly that whatever claim INEC is making is not correct and it is not a true representation of what happened, “ Onilu said . He added that the APC would, however, continue to take progressive steps to ensure that INEC did what was right ahead of the 2019 general elections . Speaking on the Supreme Court ruling on the Rivers APC governorship primaries , Onilu noted that the ruling had been subjected to different interpretations , adding that the party had yet to take a position on it. “ We have a legal department and they ( officers) will look into it and do what is right on it . The party will come out clearly on its position after studying the judgment, “ he said . On court ruling on the submission of governorship candidate for Imo , the APC national publicity secretary said the party would comply with the court decision . He , however, noted that the submission of governorship candidates to INEC falls due on November 2 , saying that the party still had time. “We will only decide who will be APC ’ s governorship candidate for Imo by November 2 , “ the APC spokesman said . The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not have the full results of the highly controversial 2007 presidential election — and this is official. The presidential election held on April 21 that year is the first and only in Nigeria’s history in which there is no state-by-state breakdown of the candidates’ scores. Maurice Iwu, a professor and INEC chairman at the time, declared Umaru Musa Yar’Adau of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a figure of 24,638,063 votes without giving the detail. It remains the highest vote ever amassed by an individual in a single election in Nigeria. By comparison, Olusegun Obasanjo scored 18,738,154 to win in 1999 and 24,109,157 to be re-elected in 2003. In 2011, Goodluck Jonathan scored 22,495,187 while Muhammadu Buhari had 15,424,921 in 2015 to unseat him. ‘GO TO 36 STATES TO GET DATA’ Poll analysts and journalists have, for years, searched for a breakdown of the results in order to map voting trends in the fourth republic but have never been lucky. Ahead of the 2019 general election, TheCable decided to send a freedom of information request to the electoral umpire for a state-by-state breakdown of the 2007 presidential results. In the INEC response signed by Okechukwu Ndeche, acting secretary, the commission, said it is not in custody of the information requested for. “You can however obtain the information from INEC State Offices in all the 36 states and FCT,” he wrote in response to TheCable. This, ordinarily, is an in-house issue that would not require TheCable going to every state of the federation. The electoral commission always announces results state-by-state before declaring an overall winner. Previous efforts by TheCable to get the full results had been futile as INEC sources said they were not with the commission. However, snippets of results showed that in Rivers state, Yar’Adua scored 1.8 million votes while Atiku and Buhari polled a total of 109,000. In nearby Delta state, Yar’Adua received 1.2 million votes as against 42,000 for the other 17 parties. There were allegations, denied though, that INEC merely wrote the figures. https://www.thecable.ng/incredible-inec-does-not-have-full-official-results-of-2007-presidential-election/amp c |
Okonjo-Iweala, who was a Managing Director of the World Bank and currently sits on Twitter's Board of Directors, also said the greatest danger corruption poses for a nation — beyond the diversion of public funds — is that it corrodes its value system. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former Minister of Finance, has identified a very small percentage of Nigeria’s population — the “kleptocratic elites” maintaining a “stranglehold” on the country — as the ones giving Nigeria a very bad name. She stated this while speaking at a plenary session tagged ‘Promoting Good Governance for Peace and Security’ at the 2018 International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) going on in Copenhagen, Denmark. She noted that this realisation — and for majority of people — made her commit to fight corruption. Nigeria's two-time Minister for Finance said the fight against corruption should not be left to the government alone but individuals must be involved as well. “We, Nigerians, have to commit and it’s not just government; each individual has to make commitment to try to fight,” she said. Okonjo-Iweala, who was a Managing Director of the World Bank and currently sits on Twitter's Board of Directors, also said the greatest danger corruption poses for a nation — beyond the diversion of public funds — is that it corrodes its value system. She said: “People get passionate about the issue of money diverted that could have been used for education or health. We all talk about it, but let me tell you that the worst thing about corruption is the way it corrodes the value of a society; the way it insidiously undermines integrity, trust, and the very fabric of society. “What I found in my country now [is that] it is very difficult to get a young person that believes they can actually achieve something on merit. The person wants a job, they look for someone who is going to introduce them to someone and that is because of that. “We cannot allow a small minority to undermine the majority in a country, so that is the issue and we cannot allow the young people to lose hope because we have got a vibrant, interesting country and we have got a vibrant interesting continent and we have to fight for it. “When we talk about fight corruption; we focus on punitive... and on getting the people who perpetuated it and not allowing impunity and that is very important; that matters and we must do it. But, it is not all, because if we don’t fix the underlying system that allowed the corruption in the first place, you will just get a new set of people and a new set of corruption. “The difference between developing and developed countries is not that the developed countries have more integrity or more morals, it is just that over time they have built stronger institutions and we see that even that can be undermined. “Institutions matter in both developed and developing countries to fight corruption, and the minute a society turns its attention away from safeguarding its institutions and values, it is shooting itself in the foot. So, what I found is that in my country, we had weak, very weak institutions to non-existent institutions.” She added that while institutions might not solve all the problems, they reduce the likelihood of corruption. Okonjo-Iweala also said an independent judiciary and strong civil societies are other ways to fight corruption. Going further, she acknowledged that building a strong institution is not as easy, hence the need for national and international organisations to work together. http://saharareporters.com/2018/10/23/few-kleptocratic-elites-giving-nigeria-bad-name-okonjo-iweala-laments-copenhagen

sThe High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo , Abuja, ruled on Tuesday, that the Federal Government ’s alleged looters ’ list released earlier in the year does not constitute a violation of the rights to presumption of innocence of those named . Delivering judgment in a suit filed by the proprietor of the African Independent Television and Ray Power Radio , Chief Raymond Dokpesi , seeking the court ’s declaration of the looters ’ list as void , Justice Olukayode Adeniyi , held that the suit lacked merit. The court ruled that the disclosure of the alleged looters ’ list by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on behalf of the Federal Government earlier in March does not carry any force of law as the minister is neither the judge or the prosecutor in the criminal case pending before the Federal High Court against Dokpesi . The judge held that if aggrieved by the possible injury done to the plaintiff , he should rather seek a remedy through a libel / slander suit. Meanwhile , the court on Tuesday adjourned the libel suit initiated by Dokpesi against the minister till November 9 . The court earlier dismissed the minister’ s objection to the libel suit due to non - appearance of the lawyers defending him in court on Tuesday and fixed November 9 for hearing of the substantive suit. https://punchng.com/breaking-looters-list-not-a-violation-of-named-persons-right-court/amp/

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo , Anambra State Chapter , has described the Igbo Presidential candidates in the 2019 general elections as midgets. The Igbo socio - cultural organisation at a press conference in Awka , Anambra State, likened such candidates with “somebody trying to go to Lagos from Awka by bicycle. ” Speaking at the conference, the State President of the group, Damian Okeke -Ogene , said the chapter had decided to support a former governor of the state, Peter Obi , who was nominated as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Atiku Abubakar . Okeke -Ogene said , “You know in this presidential race that some contestants are like somebody trying to go to Lagos from here by bicycle, while others are like somebody trying to do the same journey by aircraft. “ So , we have chosen the person we shall support in that election based on his acceptability, capacity and chances to achieve result. ” SEE ALSO: Rowdy session as PDP , APC senators clash over Akwa Ibom Our correspondent gathered that no fewer than four Igbo men emerged as presidential candidates of various political parties in the current dispensation.
