According to him, there were no abductions or deaths inside the school. “I asked the school’s principal if there were abductions or deaths in the school and she said no. “I am not unaware of the rumours going on, l want to appeal to the press and the society to please cooperate with the security agencies in this situation,” he said. The commissioner said the security forces had pursued the insurgents in a new location where they were reported to have been seen. One of the greatest challenges facing Nigeria is the pricing of petroleum products, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, said yesterday, emphasising the need for the country to urgently address the issue. Speaking at a special session at the ongoing Nigeria International Petroleum Summit (NIPS) in Abuja, Kachikwu said that unless the problem of appropriate petrol and gas pricing was addressed, fixing the existing refineries and encouraging private investors to build new ones would not solve the country’s downstream problems. The minister who addressed industry stakeholders on “The 7 Big Wins-Short and Medium Term Priorities to grow Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Industry” however, said that care must be taken in any attempt to review the prices of petroleum products so as to ensure that people did not suffer unduly. He said, “Everybody wants power, available gas and freely delivered fuel with no queues, but people are not willing to make the sacrifices that are essential for these things to happen. “However, if we get refineries back by 2019, does that solve the problem? No, it doesn’t. You still have to deal with the pricing issues, because nobody is going to build a refinery and sell products at a loss,” he said. Also contributing, the President of the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA), Eng. Dada Thomas, called for a consensus in the price of gas that is acceptable to both buyers (gas consumers) and sellers (gas producers). https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fuel-pricing-our-greatest-challenge-kachikwu.html |

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has imported 9.8 million metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth $5.8 billion to combat the fuel crisis that resurfaced since late last year. This was disclosed by the Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, during a public hearing by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Tuesday. In a presentation by the GMD who was represented by the Chief Operating Officer, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Abdulrazaq Isiaka, NNPC stated that it carried out the massive importation in fulfilment of its statutory role of supplier of last resort to ensure that Nigerians do not suffer as a result of product unavailability. According to the GMD, the corporation’s provision of 9.8 million metric tons of petrol so far has helped a great deal in ameliorating the suffering of Nigerians. According to a statement by spokesman of the corporation Ndu Ughamadu, the GMD said the corporation’s intervention became necessary following the inability of the major and independent marketers to import the product because of the high landing cost which made cost recovery and profitability difficult owing to the regulated price regime. While assuring the public of adequate product supply, the GMD, however, pointed out that cross-border smuggling due to price disparity between Nigeria and neighbouring countries where a litre of petrol sells above N350 per litre as well as logistic issues in trucking products to different locations across the country remained serious challenges in the quest for fuel queue-free situation in the country. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fuel-crisis-we-have-imported-5-8bn-worth-of-petrol-so-far-nnpc.html |
