It seems FIFA have mistakenly announced the winner of the 2015 Ballon d'Or . The winners of various categories of the Ballon d'Or are supposed to be announced at a ceremony which has been scheduled to hold on January 11. Lionel Messi and Celia Sasic 's names were placed on the top of the list of winners on the FIFA website, alongside the year 2015. FIFA on Wednesday, January 6 however momentarily placed Lionel Messi and Celia Sasic at the summit of their list of winners on their website, alongside the year 2015. Their names were swiftly removed. The names are however the favourite to win the awards, so no surprise. Messi scored 48 goals as Barcelona won another historic treble in the 2014/2015 season » . They have since added the two more trophies to that haul. He is favourite to beat his Barcelona teammate Neymar and Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo » to the award on January 11. Sasic, meanwhile, played in the women's World Cup with Germany in 2015 and was also top scorer for Frankfurt as they won the Champions League .

The Council of Obas in Ondo state has condemned the
installations of Eze Ndigbo across the South west
region, describing the trend as an affront on the Yoruba
traditional institution, Daily Post reports. A communiqué issued on Thursday, November 26, by the council in Akure, the Ondo state capital, after its monthly meeting, further stated that having another king in an area where there was one already recoginsed was an attempt to embarrass Yoruba traditional rulers. The council also frowned at the use of titles such as Eze, Igwe, Obi or any other synonym as unacceptable in the state, saying that the only chieftaincy title recognized was the one bestowed by the traditional ruler in the state on Igbo indigenes. Part of the communique read: “The continued use of Eze Ndigbo chieftaincy title and flaunting of paraphernalia of Ndigbo traditional institution in Ondo State is a calculated attempt to embarrass the Yoruba traditional rulers,” the monarchs agreed. “It is also meant to desecrate the Yoruba traditional institution. It is also an affront on Ondo State traditional rulers. It is a way of arrogating to the Igbo leaders the traditional power and equating themselves to Yoruba Obas. “It is an infraction of the penal law and indeed the Chiefs Law in Ondo State for any person to parade himself as either a minor chief or recognized chief without the requisite approval of the prescribed authority or the State Executive Council as the case may be. “Whoever wants to be a traditional ruler among the Igbos or any other ethnic groups should go to his domain for such.” Last month, the Afenifere Renewal Group had said the evolution of Igbo kings in Yorubaland is an expansionist agenda by the south easterners residing in the region. The reactions of the groups is as a result of a recent clash between youths in Ondo state and Igbos residing in the state over an alleged insult of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo. |
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board , JAMB, has
stated that it would not extend the time of result validity to
three years, like the Senate suggested. According to the Exam board, extending it would mean a distortion and delay of the future of students across the country. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde , made this opinion known in Abuja during the opening ceremony of JAMB- UNEB Benchmark on Item Banking. He argued that such a policy would obstruct the education progress of students across board. He said, “ There are complexities in this thing, until we are able to clear it. When you say you will use JAMB results for three years, is it an achievement test or aptitude test? However, are we delaying his or her life? Are we postponing his or her life by telling them to stay at home? If by next year he doesn’t get the cut off points, what happens? “I have nothing against the idea, because we will tell the children, ‘those bluffing Polytechnics and College of Education, go there and waste their time’, if it is a waste of time. ” Ojerinde also made it known cyber cafés across the country would no longer be allowed to register candidates for tertiary education examinations. “In the final analysis, cyber cafes are not allowed to register candidates for a number of reasons. Cyber cafés may have their address here today, tomorrow they are somewhere else,” he emphasised.

Today is the former president Goodluck Jonathan’s
58th birthday. On November 20, 1957, Lawrence and Eunice Jonathan brought forth baby Jonathan into the world and he was named Goodluck. He was born in Otuoke, Bayelsa state. The former president, who came from a humble background, joined politics in 1998 and was voted deputy governor of Bayelsa state in 1999. He held that post until 2006, when he became the governor following the impeachment of Governor Diepreye S.P. Alamieyeseigha. His star continued to shine as he was picked as the running mate to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2007 and they won the presidential election. From there, he rose to be the country’s No. 1 citizen on May 5, 2010, following Yar’Adua’s death. In 2011, he was elected Nigeria’s 14th president. He ran again for a second tenure in 2015 but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari. Jonathan is married to Dame Patience and they are blessed with children. As he celebrates his 58th birthday today, I brings you 58 of his memorable quotes. 1. In my early days in school, I had no shoes, no school bags. I carried my books in my hands but never despaired; no car to take me to school, but I never despaired. There were days I had only one meal but I never despaired. I walked miles and crossed rivers to school every day, but I never despaired. Didn’t have power, didn’t have generators, studied with lanterns, but I never despaired. In spite of these, I finished secondary school attended the University of Port Harcourt and now hold a doctorate degree. 2. Our dear nation, Nigeria, has certainly come a long way and made notable progress since our first Democracy Day on May 29, 1999 when the military finally relinquished power and handed over to a democratically-elected government, marking the true beginning of a government of the people, by the people, for the people. 3. One thing that I know and I feel Nigerians will celebrate is continuity and peace. 4. My brothers and sisters, we are all winners. In this context there is no victor and no vanquished. We have demonstrated, even in our diversity, the progress of Nigeria remains paramount for all. 5. I’m not interested in 2015, because you and I do not know whether we will reach 2015. The truth is, 2015 is really not my business and it is politically irresponsible for people to be talking about 2015. 6. So any President, whether it is Goodluck Jonathan or any other person, as long as you still have the opportunity to contest or not to contest, if you declare it too early, you create more problems in the system. If you say you are contesting, it creates more problems. So don’t force a President to declare his interest. It is not right. 7. Before the PDP administration, even directors in ministries had no phones! As Assistant Director, I had no phone. But with the PDP administration, now my mother has a phone. 8. Furthermore, under this administration, we have made consistent progress in improving the standard of elections in our country to ensure that they are ever more credible and truly representative of the people’s free choice. 9. Why should a lecturer in a state- owned university go on strike if Mr. President has done something wrong? The state universities are owned by the states. 10 . Boko Haram is not as a result of misrule; definitely not. Sometimes people say it is as a result of poverty; definitely not. Boko Haram is a local terror group. 11 . Boko Haram didn’t start in the last three years. Sometimes people talk about Boko Haram as if Jonathan is the cause of Boko Haram. I was the Vice President when Yusuf was killed, the so called founder of Boko Haram. And he was there before 2009. But it was not handled properly at the beginning. They allowed it to grow into a cancer and become terrible like crude oil stealing. But I assure Nigerians that we will bring it under control. It is a major challenge, but we are working day and night to overcome it. 12 . There can be no doubt that what we are witnessing in Nigeria today is a manifestation of the same warped and ferocious world view that brought down the Twin Towers in New York, killed innocent persons in Boston and led to the murder of defenceless people in the Southern Russian city of Volgograd. 13 . No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror. 14 . The war against terror may be difficult, but the days of peace will come again. Terror is evil; nowhere in history has evil endured forever. 15 . Terrorism is not a phenomenon a six months or one year State of Emergency can solve. 16 . We have a duty to stand firm against those who threaten the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian state. 17 . Nigeria is the only country we have and we must all work to preserve it for present and future generations. 18 . Nigerians are peace-loving people; these sad events perpetrated by those who do not wish our nation well have not changed the essential character of our people. 19 . Yes, we have challenges but we will surely overcome. Nigeria is our country. Nigeria is blessed. We will all collectively protect, defend and develop this country for ourselves, and our children. 20 . Over 70% of what are called corruption (cases), even by EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and other anti-corruption agencies, is not corruption, but common stealing. 21 . Don’t misquote me. I am not saying we don’t have issues of corruption but that is not our number one problem. 22 . Sometimes people take common stealing as corruption. A thief is a thief. When you steal money you are a thief. 23 . Those quoting me as saying that ‘stealing is not corruption’ have not said that the President said stealing is good. Thieves should be treated as thieves. Do not use the word ‘corruption’ to cover so many things. 24 . My political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. 25 . Nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. 26 . No matter your political interest, you must place your country first. You must show some kind of patriotism. 27 . I have no enemies to fight. You are all my friends and we share a common destiny. 28 . Where there is no opportunity for one man one vote, there will be no accountability and no responsibility. 29 . Our votes must count! One man, one vote! One woman, one vote! One youth, one vote 30 . Democracy is a journey that every nation mindful of advancing the liberty of its citizens must undertake. 31 . Any society or country that closes the vital valves of its democratic space cannot develop at a reasonable pace. 32 . Democracy calls for sacrifice and tolerance, an open ear and a strong voice. 33 . We must develop a democratic culture in which the will of the people will be treated as sacred and be immune to subversion by anti-democratic elements. 34 . It is the supreme task of this generation to give hope to the hopeless strength to the weak and protection to the defenseless. 35 . The beauty of democracy is that its practice is never final and always has room for improvement no matter how old a democratic society may be. 36 . As we strive to advance our democratic development, there will be times when our will shall be tested, our patience provoked and our belief questioned. 37 . Nobody should rig for me. I am assuring Nigerians that though I am contesting, nobody must manipulate votes in my favour. Our votes must count. 38 . You have trusted me with your mandate, and I will never, never let you down. 39 . On the football field, nobody cares who scores for Nigeria. 40 . For the PDP family, the contest for party offices does not produce winners and losers. 41 . I believe in the politics of give and take. 42 . Election is like any tournament, FIFA says March, later say April or May. The winning team will still win. No big deal. 43 . The dark patches in the Niger Delta will give way to light. 44 . I don’t need to be a lion. I don’t need to operate like the pharaoh of Egypt, I don’t need to be an army general, but I can change this country without those traits. 45 . I am not God, but I am more hopeful now than before in terms of combing the whole areas. We are working with our neighbours and we will comb the whole of that area. Just give us some time. 46 . It is the supreme task of this generation to give hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak and protection to the defenseless. 47 . Africa must turn its begging bowls into baskets of prosperity and opportunity. 48 . For you to fix the world, you must fix Africa. For you to fix Africa, you must fix Nigeria. 49 . Where we falter we must not fall. When we are weak, we must not surrender. 50 . Crude oil stealing is not done by poor people. Because, you need a vessel to lift the oil across the ocean to go and sell. And if you are to sell a stolen product abroad, you also need some connections because the refineries abroad don’t take crude oil from just anybody. 51 . Politicians are instigating some young people to act in ways not expected. 52 . It is quite unfortunate that there is a lot of wrong information in the system, especially in the social media & normal media. 53 . I don’t have the time for social media. 54 . We must not put money where people can take it, like we did with in agriculture with fertilizer. 55 . Separation of power is not separation of government. 56 . Our founding fathers did not dream of a country where neighbors and friends would exchange bullets in place of handshakes. 57. I have come to launch a campaign of ideas, not one of calumny. I have to come to preach love, not hate. I have come to break you away from divisive tendencies of the past which have slowed our drive to true nationhood. I have no enemies to fight. You are all my friends and we share a common destiny. 58 . Cynicism and skepticism will not help our journey to greatness. Let us believe in a new Nigeria. |

Editor’s note: An open letter of apology to the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, apparently authored by a Nigerian, Michael Joel, is becoming viral. From the former president’s exit from power, to the seeming non-fulfillment of electoral promises by the All Progressive Congress-led federal government, the author makes an unreserved apology and expresses hope on Jonathan’s return. Our Dear Goodluck Jonathan, I write on behalf of all Nigerians to tender an unreserved apology to you for unknowingly voting you out of office as the president of “once upon a time” giant of Africa, Nigeria. I know many will shy away from accepting this fact, especially those from the Aggrieved People Caucus (APC) who are commonly known for boasting of what they cannot or will never do. Before your unfortunate exit, we Nigerians used to buy fuel at N87.00 per litre. Who knows, maybe by now you would have brought it down to N22.00 per litre had you not been voted out. Your Excellency, believe me, we have all learnt the lesson and we promise never to repeat such a blunder. It may interest you to know that we have finally come to terms that President Muhammadu Buhari’s primary ambition was to be a petroleum minister, but he was tricked by the known scammers to divert from his ambition to presidency for reasons not yet made public. In view of this discovery, we are currently on a round- table negotiation with PMB to accept your unconditional return to presidency, and for him to rather concentrate on the Ministry of Petroleum till further notice. Accept the assurance of the fact that once the “old soldier” signs the memorandum of understanding, we will communicate same to you. While re-emphasising our regret as regards your exit from power, we are hopeful that you are currently on the drawing board to re-strategize and do what you know how to do best ahead. Please accept our sincere apology. Michael Joel, Yours truly. |

The Late Emir of Borgu, SEN. (Dr.) ALH. Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III was a man of integrity who lived his everyday life trying to work in the service and benefit of humanity. He would be greatly missed and remembered for his uprightness, honesty and steadfastness. Indeed, the late Emir was a man of character and progressive political orientation who was described sometimes ago by APC Chieftain Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a Pan-Nigerian. Late Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III was a nobleman, an administrator, a politician and a statesman per excellence who had a rewarding career in the public service and politics. He was a former incorruptible minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who did not own a House in the nation’s capital and was also a Senator of the Federal Republic amongst many others before he ascended the throne on November 26, 2005, when he succeeded Isiaku Musa Jikantoro. Born in 1938, the Late Emir was the 3rd and last child of his parents. As a leader and father of the people, he brought inspiring positive change to the Borgu Kingdom. Nigeria in general but Niger State in particular, has lost a courageous Royal Father who stood by truth against all odds. The Late Emir attended Elementary School at Old Bussa from 1945-1949; and proceeded to Pakata Elementary School, Ilorin (1950) and Baboko Senior Primary School, Ilorin (1950-1953). While in the primary school in Ilorin, little Dantoro lived in the Zango area of Ilorin and covered the 9-mile distance each school day for four years. From 1953 to 1955 he was at the Ilorin Middle School (now Government Secondary School), Ilorin, Kwara State. On completion of secondary education he opted to study administration at the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. He studied three programmes from 1957-1958, 1959-1961 and 1969-1970. In the course of his later life he attended a quite number of professional and policy related courses within and outside the country. Dantoro later served for ninety days as minister, FCT in 1983 under President Shehu Shagari led National Party of Nigeria (NPN) Federal Government; went to prison after the December 31, 1983 military coup that ended the second Republic. After the coup of 27th August 1985, he regained his freedom and was elected Distinguished Senator for Zone C comprising Borgu and Kontagora in 1992 on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC). It was during the short-lived Third Republic Senate that he met with and became friends with the Asiwaju of Lagos, then Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu who was elected on the platform of the rival political party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He, however, had a brief stint with the late General Sani Abacha’s military government before he finally drew curtains on his political adventure. He served as the Deputy National Chairman of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN). The erstwhile governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili was the National Secretary of the party. Saleh Hassan was the National Chairman, while the late Lamidi Adedibu was the National Vice Chairman (South West). The Late Royal Father, who was recently decorated as Life Patron by the Association of Tourism Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATAN), died at a German Hospital after a brief illness. He was a peace-loving Emir who had a strong forgiving spirit and positivistic approach to the issues of national interest and co-existence. Late Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III was the overall 315th Emir of the Kingdom and the 16th in modern times. His demise would be felt by all, especially the State Council of Traditional Rulers where his contributions had been legendary. INNALILLAHI WA INNAILAIHI RAJI’UN. May Allah grant him eternal rest and make Aljanna Firdausi his final abode. Certainly, every living being must taste death.

The Isoro cult and head of all deities in Ile-Ife, Oba Olajide Ifaloba has revealed that there will be no human sacrifice to herald the installation of the new Ooni Of Ife. Recall that Prince Adeyeye was announced the next Ooni of Ife yesterday, October 26, by the the Osun state governor. Ifaloba explained that Adeyeye’s emergence as was “divine,” and other contestants must see him as “product of grace.” Explaining that the installation rites will be done at nights, Ifalode said: “We rejoice with him and thank the creator for giving us a monarch in his class. Those that vied for the throne with him must now see Oba Enitan as father that must be supported to lift Ife. We pray for him a long life and good health to administer the town and the entire Yoruba land. The new Ooni would have spent three months in Ilofi before his installation, but he would be spending 21 days instead, because of the forthcoming Olojo Festival.” The new Ooni’s father, Pa Ogunwusi also revealed that the emergence of the new Ooni was foreseen, even before his birth. He told Nigerian Tribune: ”We thank God. It is the Lord’s doing. We are grateful to God. This is because out of over 40 contestants, God has really singled him out to do the job and carry the load of Yorubaland. I pray to God in his infinite mercy to grant him the grace and wisdom to do the job successfully without any problem or blemish. “Ife people would know peace and prosperity during his reign by the grace of God. Before we gave birth to him, a man of God came to our area in Ibadan. That time, he told us prophetically that we would soon be blessed with a child and that child is going to be a child of glory. He is going to be great and that man of God told us the exact time of his delivery. That was how it came to pass. His emergence is the fulfillment of God’s prophesy,” The chairman of Ife central local government area of Osun State, Dr Taiwo Olaiya, also revealed that the kingmakers picked Adeyeye out of the 43 princes who contested because of various things. He said that although Adeyeye has traveled wide but he is still in contact with his roots. He has also warm the hearts of locals through his entrepreneurial skills. “Ogunwusi’s understanding of the Yoruba culture, despite being widely travelled and his generosity, even when he had not shown interest in becoming Ooni also worked in his favour. He also exhibited unmatched humility and calmness that was hard to come by among all the contestants. The fact that the business tycoon made his money without being linked to any party or government also counted in his favour.” https://www.naij.com/618898-human-sacrifice-installation-new-ooni-ife-head-deities-said.html |
I am coming to the throne to set a good example • Predictions on my son have come true, says father FOLLOWING his emergence as the Ooni-elect, only coronation-rites away from occupying the pre- eminent monarchical stool among an estimated 60 million Yoruba worldwide, Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, yesterday said his ascension to the throne was a divine call, as “only God chooses kings.” The Ooni-elect who spoke to The Guardian in an exclusive interview yesterday, expressed his appreciation to God, who made his emergence so peaceful. He spoke against the backdrop of several efforts to thwart the process that led to his emergence which had led to uncertainty in the ancient town since the passage of the last Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse II, on July 28 this year at Saint Mary Hospital London at the age of 85. Kingmakers who had thought the new Ooni would be announced 42 days after the death of Sijuade were wrong as several interest groups raised allegations against either the families due to produce a new Ooni or Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi himself when, they somehow found out he was the candidate to beat. Before his selection was announced, Prince Ogunwusi had told The Guardian of his shock at the allegations, saying he was never involved in any sharp practices, stressing that he believes “it is God that actually appoints kings. “My brother, can people be this bad?! How can they be maligning my character with all these spurious allegations, which I am not aware of or connected with? Well, I believe that in a matter of days, everything would be over and that the will of God will be done,” he had said emphatically. Two months before, when some friends expressed concern over his bid for the throne, he simply thanked them but said: “This is beyond me; it is a divine call and I cannot do otherwise. This is the biggest challenge I have ever faced in my life.” Through it all, the Ooni-elect even as a candidate never failed to express his confidence in God, in the integrity of the kingmakers and the government of Osun State. ‘Predictions have come true’ The Ooni-elect’s father, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi, who suddenly finds himself, socially and culturally lower than his offspring, expressed happiness at the fulfillment of predictions long ago that his son would one day wear the crown. He called on others who contested with the new monarch to forget the past and begin a new fiesta by joining hands with the Ooni-in-waiting in building new Ife to the joy and satisfaction of all. Thoughts after A few hours after his emergence, Ogunwusi said he was very happy that the process turned out peaceful, despite several challenges. Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, he said: “I thank God that it was peaceful all the way. This is dedicated to God and Nigerian youths, particularly, our youths in Ife. With my emergence, our young people now have a voice in nation building and development. “In the course of my aspiration to be the Ooni stool, I faced stiff opposition, but I thank God that at the end of the day, it has turned out this way and I give glory to God.” Prince Ogunwusi, who as of yesterday was in Ibadan, would be entering Ife triumphantly today or tomorrow. In his acceptance speech, the Ooni-elect said: “I am not coming to the throne to pass judgment on those that have maliciously wronged me. I am coming to the throne to set a good example and show the world that I am truly called by God to lead Ile-Ife into a state of tranquility, conscientiousness and prosperity. “It is my ardent prayer that the Lord will continue to guide us all and bestow us with great wisdom to carry out our incumbent tasks. I use this opportunity to call upon all the sons of Ile-Ife that were alongside with me in the race for the stool to heed to my call that we work harmoniously to align our goals for the sake of posterity and Ile-Ife. Together we shall not lose sight of the values and tradition that have made us the greatest nation of black people on earth.” Goodwill for the Ooni-elect Meanwhile, Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, yesterday congratulated Prince Ogunwusi and advised him to concentrate on further solidifying the role of the Yoruba people in national unity. Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, wished the Ooni- elect a long and peaceful reign, sound health and many years of service to his people. Saraki assured the new monarch that the Senate, under his leadership, would continue to hold the traditional institution in high esteem, considering the role they play in ensuring peaceful coexistence among the people, promotion of worthy cultural values in the society and sustenance of national traditions. Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated the new Ooni-elect. In a congratulatory statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, Dogara said the role of traditional rulers in nation building could not be over-emphasised and that such institutions must be restored to their former dignity if Nigeria was to make any meaningful progress. The Speaker urged the Ooni-elect to emulate the works of the late Oba Sijuade whom he said left an indelible mark in the history of Nigeria as a peacemaker and a bridge between different peoples of the country. While assuring of the cooperation of the House of Representatives, Dogara said the legislature was open to the wise counsel and invaluable support of the Ooni-elect in its quest to effect change and reposition Nigeria for enduring peace, security, accelerated growth and development. The Speaker also appealed to the ruling houses in Ife and citizens of Kingdom to unite behind the new Ooni and give him the much-needed support. Also, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday, urged the new Ooni of Ife to prioritise unity of the Yoruba. Ambode, in his congratulatory message, said the stool remains the rallying point of the ethnic nationality and should among others be used to strengthen the bond among all its people. Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko spoke in a similar vein in a congratulatory message. Addressing reporters over the appointment, the Laadin of Ife and Secretary of Ife Traditional Council, Chief Adetoye Adewole, affirmed that, the choice of Ogunwusi was ordained by the gods of the land. Adewole described the Ooni-in-waiting as a man of dignity with impeccable character, stressing that he was single-handedly fished out by Ifa oracles and gods through divination. Also, the Lowa Adimula of Ifel, who is the chairman of kingmakers, Oba Joseph Ijaodola, said due process was religiously followed before the selection and recommendation of the newly appointed monarch was made to the state government for its official endorsement. Oba Ijaodola noted the choice of Ogunwusi came after a painstaking and rigorous exercise taking into consideration the enormous task before the kingmakers. He said Ogunwusi was the best among other candidate, saying the Ooni –elect possesses the qualities expected of a personality to occupy the throne. Also, former Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Youths and Special Needs, Mr. Biyi Odunlade, an indigene of Ife, described Ogunwusi as an intelligentsia of note with outstanding achievements. Odunlade urged those who contested with Prince Ogunwusi to see his emergence as divine, saying all of them should join hands with him in taking Ife to greater heights. Omo Oba Sikiru Adetona Ayedun of Giesi Ruling Family (Moniki –Lugba} who is one of the contestants congratulated the Kabiyesi-elect, saying as the 51st Ooni, Ife people would rally round him to enhance rapid development of the town. ‘‘I equally wish you a memorable and eventful coronation in advance. Igba re atuwa lara. (Meaning your tenure would bring peace, comfort and development) ‘Goldfish have no hiding place’ True to the proverb: “Gold fish have no hiding place” young Ogunwusi’s penchant for excellence could not be hidden from the world. Often described as ‘an astute entrepreneur’ driven by turning ‘impossibilities to possibilities,’ his powerful imagination had somehow, set him on the throne of his fathers, long before yesterday. Former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said that the federal government should provide facilities such as grazing areas for Fulani herdsmen so as to put an end to the endangerment of lives and properties. While speaking during the reunion of the Government College Old Boys’ a$$ociation, Kwankwaso also urged the government to educate the Fulani herdsmen so that they can introduce modern means of cattle rearing in the country. He said “I am a Fulani man. My father was educated; I am educated. So, I don’t think if I have cattle, I will go into the forest to find food for them. Education is important. These Fulani should be educated. “They should be settled and by that, they will develop the modern way of keeping livestock. Go to Britain, America or other parts of the world, you don’t see cattle roaming about. In Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria, Fulani herdsmen run around endangering their lives and cattle in the forest. It is not good for the economy, security or anybody. “For today, I think it is important for the government to provide facilities because we require their services. Facilities like grazing areas for the cattle and other facilities to make sure that we manage the situation should be provided. In the North, we used to have all these grazing areas. “We used to have cattle ranches, where they go from place to place without going into the farm. Probably because of the population now and other issues, all these places have been taken over by farmers. Therefore, it becomes very difficult for any cattle to roam or go to places without going into farms.” While reacting to calls for the banning of the herdsmen in the South-West, he said “It is not only peculiar to the South-West. We just have to have a lot of understanding of the situation. Some of the issues being raised by the people, especially politicians, do not help anybody. “If you sack the Fulani from here or you fight them, maybe it is because you are here. If you are a Yoruba man based in Kano, I don’t think you can contemplate sacking the Fulani. “I am from Kano, but right now I am in Ibadan. Anywhere you are is your home. Today, Ibadan is my home. God forbid, if something bad happens here, it will affect me. But for today, I think it is important for the government to provide ranching facilities, such as grazing sites, because we require their services. It now calls for understanding among Nigerians. To that extent, therefore, politicians should stop over- blowing the issue.” cc:lalasticalala

Embattled Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has said
popular online news platform, Saharareporters is out to
“malign and bring to disrepute” his person. Saraki, who spoke through his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, denied report by the news platform that the senate president engaged Hon. Justice Alfa Modibo Belgore (Rtd) to compromise judges on the panel of the Court of Appeal hearing Saraki’s appeal concerning his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal with the view of influencing their decision in favour of Dr. Saraki. The statement said Saraki will not get involved in transactions, discussions and actions aimed at destroying the judiciary or muffling the voice of justice. Saraki described Justice Belgore as a honourable jurist, incorruptible judge and a man of integrity. Saraki added that he will continue to “alert members of the public to the antics and poor taste of the Sahara Reporters and its handlers and sponsors. This medium is nothing but a purveyor of lies, falsehood and represents the greatest dreg of the professional genre it pretends to represent.” Read The Full Statement Below Lies, if repeatedly told without a rebuttal, would be assumed to be true. It is for this reason that once again, we found it necessary to refute one of the malicious and false stories emanating from Sahara Reporters, an online newspaper. As it is constant with the online newspaper in its calculated attempt to always malign and bring to disrepute, on all issues and at all times, the Senate President, Dr. Abubukar Bukola Saraki, Sahara Reporters on Monday, October 19, 2015, maliciously and falsely wrote that the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Alfa Modibo Belgore (Rtd) was engaged by the Senate President to compromise judges on the panel of the Court of Appeal hearing his appeal concerning his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, with the view to influencing their decision in favour of Dr. Saraki. This malicious report by the Sahara Reporters is part of the desperation of the online newspaper to always drag the person of the Senate President in the mud where the owners and sponsors of the medium naturally dwell. Apart from the fact that Dr. Saraki will not get involved in transactions, discussions and actions aimed at destroying the judiciary or muffling the voice of justice, those who know the relationship between the duo, know that the former Chief Justice of Nigeria is not the type that will put his hard-earned reputation in jeopardy by getting involved in any attempt to subvert the cause of Justice. Justice Belgore is known generally as a honourable jurist, incorruptible judge and a man of integrity. He is known to be an apostle of due process and would never stoop low as to rubbish his hard earned reputation, his integrity or that of the court. The mention of his name in this manner and in connection with this case reflects the limitless desperation by Sahara reporters in their bid to pull down the Senate President. This medium do not care if in the process of accomplishing its devious objectives, it rubbishes the name and hard-earned integrity of an eminent jurist as well as the institution of the judiciary. It is pertinent to alert members of the public to this dangerous trend of blackmail of judges and the judiciary using the media. The same Sahara Reporters was the one that made spurious allegations which led to a judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja withdrawing from a case filed by Dr. Saraki . This ugly development deserves that both the judiciary and legislature take a look at this issue and move swiftly to address it. We will continue to alert members of the public to the antics and poor taste of the Sahara Reporters and its handlers and sponsors. This medium is nothing but a purveyor of lies, falsehood and represents the greatest dreg of the professional genre it pretends to represent. Signed: Yusuph Olaniyonu |

Parents out of fear for what the community or society
would say, tell their daughters to lower their goals,
expectations and settle for the norm. They tend to forget that she’ll be a woman someday, pa$$ing what has been taught to her down to her daughters and the circle goes on. Phenomenal women who have recorded their names in history books, stepped out of that vicious circle, never settled for anything less than they deserved and were the odd ones who decided not to be called average. According to Lifehack, teenage girls should be given better advice by their parents rather than hearing these words. 1. “That’s a man’s job”: Our society has stereotyped certain roles, jobs, occupation and careers to males. A woman who tries one of these masculine role, is therefore seen as odd. Parents should learn to tell their daughters there are no specific jobs or career men, it makes them broaden their thoughts. 2. “You are wasting your time”: There’s nothing worse than a parent not willing to give their teenage daughter a chance to prove herself. She can only carve a niche for herself when she tries her hands on different things. 3. “That’s very unladylike of you”: Our society has stereotyped girls as just being pretty little things adorned with beautiful ribbons, acting right and waiting for the man who’ll whisk her off. Parents should let their daughter try unladylike stuffs like wearing baggy clothes instead of forcing her to be feminine always. 4. Your cla$$ is too high/low for him: Your daughters cannot become stronger if they don’t get rejected once or twice. As weird as it seems, that the harsh truth of life. Shielding your daughter from certain life lessons especially on love, relationships and $exuality, can cause more harm than good for her. Just be there to give then good advice rather than condemning them totally. 5. “Why can’t you be more like her?”: Telling your daughter this will bring out her insecurities, she’ll feel the only way to be accepted is by copying others because you constantly compare her to other girls out there then an unhealthy competition begins. She can only be the best version of herself and no one else
