It also has a narrow range of flammability, that is, in concentrations in air below about 5 percent and above about 15 percent, natural gas will not burn. The high ignition temperature and limited flammability range make accidental ignition or combustion of CNG unlikely.

The fact that CNG is lighter than air further enhances its safety. Unlike other fuels such as diesel, petrol or LPG, which are heavier than air, and pools on the ground creating a fire hazard and potential pollution to waterways. Should a CNG leak occur, the gas will disperse rapidly upwards into the atmosphere and dissipate.

The group in a statement issued by its President, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq in Benin City, the Edo State capital, said it has observed with dismay, the unfair related party trade practices of GSK UK, which is aimed at shutting down GSK Consumer PLC local production of its drugs and vaccines in Nigeria.

“As was previously reported, GSK UK who are related trading partners of GSK Consumer PLC has deliberately refused to supply the Nigeria market its life-saving medicines- Asthma, Antibiotics and critical vaccines. This action has led to an attendant astronomical increase in the prices of the drugs and vaccines in a way that makes these critical medicines beyond the reach of the ordinary Nigerian.

“We are also aware that this action and the plan to shut down GSK Consumer PLC operations was rejected by some board members and has led to the resignation of one of the oldest board members on the GSK Consumer PLC Board – Mr Samuel Kuye. Mr Samuel Kuye is a chartered accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) who has served as an independent executive director on the GSK Consumer PLC board for 9 years, resigned due to the coercive plans of GSK UK. With Mr Kuye’s resignation and the appointment of 2 GSK UK employees as board members, GSK UK now has the majority of board members on the GSK Consumer PLC Board.

GlaxoSmithKline UK (GSK UK) has dropped a scheme to increase its stake in GSK Consumer Nigeria, following opposition from minority shareholders.

The decision to abandon a scheme of arrangement that would have increased its indirect ownership in the unit to 75 percent is a fresh setback for Britain’s biggest drugmaker, which is battling a corruption scandal in China.

The company said on Monday it had agreed to consult shareholders and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about the proposal, including whether it should be implemented by way of a tender offer.

SEC is reported to have barred GSK UK from voting during court-ordered general meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to consider its proposal to raise its stake from 46.4 per cent to 75 per cent in Glaxosmithkline Consumer Nigeria Plc.

SEC is also reported to have fixed the company’s share price for the possible tender offer at a minimum of N60 per share, compared with the N48 initially approved.

GSK UK had last November come up with the proposal to invest more in its Nigerian subsidiary but that investment would only come after increasing its holding to 75 per cent, which the board of GSK Nigeria accepted.

Minority shareholders however opposed the move, saying it is a ploy to alienate them and delist the company from the Nigerian Stock Exchange in future just like the way Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company South Africa used its controlling stake in Nigerian Bottling Company Plc to delist the company last year.

Taiwo Oyedele, a fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), has resigned from his position in the organisation.

Mr Oyedele announced his resignation via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.

He explained that the move was to enable him to focus fully with undivided attention on his new role as the Chair of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee.

Earlier in July, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of a Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and appointed Mr Oyedele as the chairman of the committee.

The government said the establishment of the committee reflects Mr Tinubu’s commitment to addressing challenges and bringing about transformative reforms in fiscal policy and taxation.

The committee’s primary objective, according to the Nigerian government, is to enhance revenue collection efficiency, ensure transparent reporting, and promote the effective utilisation of tax and other revenues to boost citizens’ tax morale, foster a healthy tax culture, and drive voluntary compliance.

Announcing his decision on Wednesday, Mr Oyedele said: “After over two decades at PwC, I have made the hard but necessary decision to exit the firm.”

He said: “This is to enable me to focus fully with undivided attention on my new role as the Chair of the Presidential Fiscal Policy & Tax Reform Committee, which I consider an important national assignment.”

Since his appointment, there have been concerns over the propriety of Mr Oyedele’s dual positions as chair of the government’s tax reform committee and PwC Africa tax leader.

Shortly after his appointment, some Twitter users raised concerns about conflict of interest and other ethical issues that may affect his ability to perform well in both positions.

On Wednesday, Mr Oyedele noted that his resignation would erase all ethical concerns raised by critics since his appointment.

“This decision will also prevent any potential distractions from real or perceived conflict of interest. Thank you all once again for your support, best wishes and prayers,” he wrote.

“May God bless you all, and may God bless Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Oyedele joined PwC as an associate in 2002, immediately after completing his NYSC.

He rose through the ranks of Senior Associate, Assistant Manager, Manager, and Senior Manager, Fiscal Policy Partner and West Africa Tax Leader.
