The 188-megawatt Geometric Power plant in Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, will start to generate electricity in the next two months, according to Bart Nnaji, chairman, Geometric Power Group.
Starting with one of its three General Electric brand turbines, the second will come on stream once the performance of the first turbine is declared satisfactory, by the team of engineers led by KS Energy of Turkey and Ben Caven, managing director of Geometric Power Aba Limited.
“We have completed building four brand new power substations and refurbishing three substations inherited from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), in addition to providing thousands of kilometres of cables and wires, as well as world-class tubular poles available in only highly industrialised cities such as Tokyo in Japan and San Francisco in California.
“All that remains now is to provide fuel or gas to the Geometric Power plant, through the 27-kilometre gas pipeline from Owaza in Ukwa West LGA in Abia State, to the plant at Osisioma Industrial Layout on the Aba outskirts.
- Currently, Aba Power purchases electricity from Niger Delta Power Company (NDPC). This is then distributed to its customers.
- Osisioma gas turbines expected to start electricity generation before September 2023. This will make Aba Power Limited the first DISCO to generate and distribute electricity in Nigeria.
- Customer debt to Geometric is 2.4billion NGN while Aba Power is 4billion NGN.
Some of the majority shareholders of FBN Holdings Plc are said to be joining forces to fight off Oba Otudeko from reclaiming control of the bank holding company.
Reports reaching Nairametrics suggest the decision to join forces against Oba Otudeko is in response to the declaration of a 13.3% stake in the bank.
The shareholders are reported to be concerned about the consequences of having Oba Otedeko back in control of the bank in any capacity, following the debacle he had with the central bank two years ago.
Otudeko’s forced exit from the bank paved the way for other shareholders such as Otedola and Odukale to cement their stake in the bank with all major shareholders appointing directors on the board of the bank and the holding company.
The billionaire owner of Globacom, Mike Adenuga, and the family of Arisekola are also major shareholders of the bank all with board representation.
Nairametrics understands that the major shareholders of the bank jointly own about 28% of the shares of the bank as of December 2022.

Bussy1234: Hello, I'm unemployed and going to the state with someone for a conference what do you think will be the best answer to fill as employment status and duties on the form. The other party will be sponsoring all bills
A former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, has said that members of the opposition parties in Nigeria would not fight just for the sake of it.
At a briefing after meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday in Abuja, Mr Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said opposition parties would not constitute themselves into armies of counter production to national development.
He said the development and sustenance of Nigeria should not be left in the hands of one man or party.
“I am still a member of the People’s Democratic Party, and I will never leave it for anything. However, I have to give credit to whom it is due.
“I came to see the president to commend him for the giant strides he has taken so far. This is a man that has shown a clear vision for the country and we all need to support him to achieve these lofty dreams.
Davidcorny: I normally subscribe 15k for 150gb which was reduced to 120gb now it's not there anymore. Guys is there anymore similar plans at that price or do they want people to pick 120gb for 20k?
Your best bet is to subscribe to the 6-month plan.
GreaterFuture: It occurred to me very recently that, one could be able to make a fairly large Powerbank with all materials readily available here in Nigeria (Lagos). This came to my mind as somethings took me to Alaba few days ago.
One could make his own fairly small/large "Powerbank" that can charge and power phones, laptops and day to day appliances used in the home. And it would work Perfectly well! ... that's another key point, it is not inferior in Quality or long term usage reliability to the best of names.
This, would sizeably cushion the Power/electricity issue that most of us face.
Could you please give results in hours for 1kg of LPG for the following load using a 6 - 6.5kva generator?
stagger: I did a test with the LPG carburetor on a 6.5KVA gen with water pump, ac and washing machine load.
I got 9 hours of power on 12.5 kg which I got for N7,500.
That's a cost of N833 per hour.
Same gen has a 25 litre PMS tank which runs for 12 hours (on limited load; one ac only). That's N13,500 (@ N540/litre) for 12 hours, or N1,125 per hour.
Savings per hour: N1,125 - N833 = N292 per hour.
Using the LPG carburetor and gas for 6 hours a day (assuming you want to run it from 6pm to 12 midnight if there is no power), you save N292 X 6 = N1,752 per day.
Over 30 days, that's savings of N52,560. Over a year, that's savings of N630,720.
Meanwhile, I imported my carburetor from China at a cost of 17,500. It was delivered to my house. Cylinder kept at a distance of 6 yards away. The only thing I notice is that I have to put the gas on and leave it for 1 minute to enter the system, and then I have to pull three or four times before it kicks in. Also have to return the choke pretty fast or it will go off.
Have been using this system for a month now. No issues.
I will advice not to fill your gas at roadside vendors. Air in the cylinder instead of LPG will cause the gen to start fluctuating.
