A senior official of the Labour Party, Dr Abayomi Arabambi, has launched a fresh attack on former presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi, accusing him of dishonesty, political inconsistency, and betrayal of party loyalty.

Speaking in a statement dated January 5, 2026, Dr Arabambi, who is the National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party for the South West, criticised Mr Obi’s reported move to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, describing it as a continuation of what he called Obi’s “nomadic political history.”

Dr Arabambi recalled that Mr Obi allegedly made public vows in 2010 while serving as Governor of Anambra State, pledging before the Igbo deity Amadioha never to leave APGA, and again in April 2024, when he reportedly promised not to leave the Labour Party.

He described Obi’s latest political move as a betrayal of those vows.
The Labour Party chieftain further alleged that internal failures within the party during the 2023 presidential election were responsible for its defeat, not the Independent National Electoral Commission or the judiciary.

He accused Mr Obi and members of his campaign team of failing to deploy sufficient polling unit agents nationwide and of mishandling campaign funds.

Dr Arabambi also referenced the outcome of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, noting that the court dismissed several claims made by the Labour Party candidate due to lack of evidence, procedural lapses, and failure to substantiate allegations of rigging.

On economic matters, he accused Mr Obi of misrepresenting Nigeria’s debt profile in recent media appearances, claiming such statements could undermine investor confidence and damage the country’s economy.

Dr Arabambi further criticised Obi’s comments on national security issues, particularly in the South East, arguing that a potential national leader must demonstrate greater clarity, balance, and responsibility when addressing sensitive matters.
