SportsGateway United FC To Embark On Nigeria National League Journey With Rickety Bus by Ainaolusegun(op): 12:04pm On Oct 22, 2025
As the Nigeria National League (NNL) season approaches, the management and players of Ogun State-owned club, Gateway United FC, are facing a daunting prospect: navigating the demanding schedule of long-distance away fixtures aboard a dangerously dilapidated team bus.Sources within the club confirmed to our correspondent that the official team vehicle, which is mandatory for transporting players and technical staff across the country, is in a severe state of disrepair.

The bus is reportedly plagued by chronic mechanical faults, broken air conditioning systems, and inadequate seating, raising significant safety and morale concerns ahead of the challenging league campaign.

The NNL season requires teams to undertake cross-regional travel spanning hundreds of kilometers, journeys that demand player comfort and safety to ensure optimal performance. Instead, players are now reportedly apprehensive about the travel days, fearing breakdowns and excessive fatigue before crucial matches.

A senior player, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, described the situation as "demoralizing."“We train twice a day, every day, and we are determined to get this club promoted back to the NPFL (Nigerian Premier Football League). But how can we give 100% when we spend twenty hours on the road cramped in a bus that breaks down every few kilometers?” the player lamented. “Our bodies are tired before we even get to the match venue. It is a massive risk to our safety and directly impacts our professional career.”

"There had been cases where the players will come down to push the car while traveling to honour away matches and sometimes we get to the venue at almost the nick of the kick off, what do you expect from such encounter'

Insiders suggest that the dilapidated bus, which has been in service for well over a decade, should have been replaced several seasons ago. Multiple requests and proposals for a new, roadworthy vehicle have been sent to the relevant state sports authorities, but none have yielded positive results.

Another daunting challenge that needed to be addressed is the issue of security. The team had traveled to play away matches with the escorts of security operatives, exposing the players to imminent challenge. There is the need for the state government to provide the team with security to safeguard the lives of the players.

The club is set to kick off its NNL campaign next week, and without a swift solution, the team will embark on its grueling journey with the ‘rickety bus’, a start that has already dampened enthusiasm and cast a shadow over their promotion aspirations.

The entire football community awaits a decisive action to avert what many fear could be a preventable disaster.

CrimeOjajuni-led Interpol Nigeria Busts Foreign Kidnapping, Trafficking Gang In Lagos by Ainaolusegun(op): 5:01pm On Oct 08, 2025
Interpol Nigeria has dismantled an international kidnapping and human trafficking ring run by foreign nationals, following an intelligence-driven operation led by Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, head of Interpol at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Eight suspects, who are citizens of Ghana, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, and Côte d’Ivoire, were arrested in coordinated raids across Lagos and Ogun States.

They were arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday and remanded in a correctional facility for 30 days pending further investigation.

Those in custody include four Ghanaians, Gabriella Ewenam (25), Oscar Semekor (25), David Abban (25), and Tefutor Obed (25); an Ivorian, Dissa Latif (22); a Beninese, Gnango Gerrad (26); two Burkinabes, Niamba Kikao (23) and Kalizeta Zon (22).

Police prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the gang had lured victims from Ghana, Benin Republic, and other West African countries into Nigeria under the guise of securing Canadian work visas.

Victims were then kidnapped, trafficked, or defrauded, with ransoms paid through mobile money accounts traced to the suspects.

One victim was trafficked from Ghana after his family paid $1,007 (about N2 million) for a fake work permit.

In another case reported through Interpol Abidjan, victims were abducted and ransoms of N12.2 million were collected before they were freed in Badagry, Lagos, and Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The breakthrough was the result of painstaking work by Ojajuni’s team, who tracked the suspects’ movements with digital surveillance tools before storming their hideouts.

Inspectors Sanusi Akindele and Oyebisi Oni, both of Interpol Lagos, deposed to affidavits detailing the gang’s cross-border operations, rescue of victims, and seizure of evidence.

Magistrate Azeez Alogba granted the police request to hold the suspects for 30 days to allow Interpol to conclude investigations and obtain legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The case was adjourned to November 17, 2025.

The arrests, carried out in collaboration with Interpol bureaus in Accra and Abidjan, marked another major breakthrough against cross-border organised crime in Nigeria.
