PoliticsOtunba Adegbenro Urges Caution In Politics, Warns Against Pull Down Syndrome. by Ainaolusegun(op): 2:53pm On Aug 19, 2025
Security expert and peace advocate, Otunba Adejare Rewane Adegbenro, has urged politicians and commentators to exercise caution in their remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning against statements that could inflame tensions in the polity.

He gave the warning in an interview programme on ITV in Abuja.

Reacting to a recent remark credited to Lauretta Onochie that the president is running the country like a WhatsApp groups, Adegbenro expressed disappointment, stressing that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) must avoid divisive rhetoric. “The party is APC, the president is APC. Irrespective of whether you are for Buhari or Tinubu, you shouldn’t say such a loose and callous statement to whip sentiment. Many of them are only looking for ways to get back into government,” he said.

He added that President Tinubu deserves the space to govern without distractions. “It hurts me that a lot of people do not know Asiwaju. If you know him, you would know he’s never distracted. It’s his turn, let him lead in peace and stop stoking enmity. You don’t have to like the president. If you don’t want him, then go contest against him in 2027 instead of this pull-down syndrome,” he declared.

Addressing criticisms from the opposition, Adegbenro insisted that President Tinubu inherited a severely weakened economy and has taken bold steps to restore stability. *“What has the president done to deserve such destructive criticism? The president met a decayed economy. No one else would have taken the audacious steps he has taken to get the economy back on track. There’s no way anybody could have fixed that level of decay in just two years. Tinubu means well, but for Nigeria to move forward, we all need to be involved,” he argued.

He dismissed persistent attacks from commentators as unhelpful, urging them to engage constructively in nation-building. “The armchair critics should join politics. I’m glad the president is not distracted by the naysayers. He’s focused on the assignment at hand, and the gains of his steps are already trickling in,” he noted.

On the issue of delayed ambassadorial appointments, Adegbenro explained that the decision was based on priority. “Appointing ambassadors is not cheap. The president is prioritising poverty eradication, which is why interventions at states and local government levels have increased significantly. Scrutiny is ongoing and at the right time, ambassadors will be appointed,” he said.

Commenting on reports of opposition parties forming a coalition, the security expert said such development was welcome. “Opposition is good for democracy. Let them run,” he concluded.

CrimeOtunba Adegbenro Faults EFCC Over Raid On Obasanjo Presidential Library by Ainaolusegun(op):
Security expert and peace advocate, Otunba Adejare Rewane Adegbenro, has condemned the recent invasion of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The sting operation, which took place in the wee hours of Monday , August 11, 2025, led to the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters.
Speaking in Abuja during an interview with ITV, Adegbenro described the operation as heavy-handed, arguing that it fell short of the procedures expected when dealing with a facility associated with a former Nigerian president and retired army general.
“Looking at the operation network, you are not dealing with an ordinary Nigerian. You are dealing with a former president, a retired army general. I expected EFCC to get in touch with the former president or the CSO of OOPL. He would have worked with them to fish out the cyber fraudsters," he stated.

Adegbenro emphasised that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has consistently demonstrated zero tolerance for corruption and fraud, noting that it was under his leadership that the EFCC was established. "We know Chief Obasanjo has zero tolerance for fraud. His disgust for fraud made him establish the EFCC. No one is saying EFCC can’t operate, but there are processes, and the processes should be followed,” he said.

The security expert expressed strong disapproval of what he termed the “Gestapo-style” raid, stressing that while some cybercrime suspects were arrested, innocent fun-seekers at the premises were also unjustly picked up, with some sustaining injuries.

He also highlighted the financial and reputational toll of the invasion, saying damages inflicted on the OOPL facilities run into billions of naira.

“This is draconian. Such operations have no place in a democratic setting. They should learn from the FBI,” he warned.

Though the EFCC has denied that the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was the target of its sting operation, claiming that the operation followed intelligence reports. However, the OOPL management demanded N3.5bn in compensation as well as public apology unless it would go to court

The incident has triggered national debate over the commission’s methods, the importance of due process, and the need to balance crime-fighting efforts with respect for democratic institutions.

InvestmentOgun SSG Charges Cooperatives To Think Beyond Loans, Become Financial Powerhouse by Ainaolusegun(op): 10:04am On Aug 07, 2025
Ogun State Cooperative Federation (OGSCOFED) and its members have been charged to think beyond issuance of loans, expand their horizon and look towards becoming financial organisations capable of building and supporting business enterprise that will last a lifetime.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi gave the charge in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during his decoration and award as the Patron of the Cooperative Movement in celebration of the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, urging them not to relent in their efforts to achieve the goal of a prosperous future for all.

Talabi, who expressed his admiration for cooperative organisations in empowering people to achieve their goals and aspirations, described Cooperatives as a permanent intervention vehicle for adversities, which anyone could look up to at any given time, noting that they are business model driving other interventions and initiatives.

“One thing I have always admired about cooperative movement is the fact that you empower people to achieve their goals. It is like a permanent intervention vehicle for adversities and for anyone to build capacity. These are what people are trying to mimic,” Talabi stated.

The State Scribe noted that the present administration led by Gov. Dapo Abiodun was genuinely committed to the socio-economic wellbeing of residents and investors in the State evident in the various initiatives, such as the “Oko’wo Dapo and Owo Irin’se Dapo” aimed at improving the financial prosperity of traders, artisans and others, saying government looked forward to partnering with the umbrella body of Cooperatives to achieve its aims of enhancing individual prosperity and the state’s economy at large.

"There is a lot that the State is doing, and you have to find a relevant space. I am really impressed about the amount of money circulating within your organisation and there are quite a few programme like OSAMCA, supporting people with funds, as well as other initiatives like Oko’wo Dapo and Owo Irin’se Dapo. I strongly believe that with the kind of awareness you are creating, partnership will come in, which will, in turn, grow everyone involved.”

Talabi also commended OGSCOFED team for putting in place a youth arm, which according to him would encourage active participation of the younger generations, saying that they are the future, who are technology savvy and would technologically improve the running of the cooperative movement in the State and country at large.

Earlier, Commissioner for Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Balogun, who led the team intimated that the year 2025 celebration dedicated every day in the year to celebrate and propagate the gospel of cooperative movement all over the world, saying “This year’s celebration is unique because every year we celebrate International Day of Cooperatives every first Saturday in July, but this year, every day of the year is for the celebration, so it was called International year of Cooperatives.”

Also speaking, President of the Federation, Alh. Wasiu Olaleye, who informed that the year 2025 celebration themed “Cooperatives Build a Better World” was jointly declared by the United Nations (UN), and the International Cooperatives Alliance (ICA), said it focused on four thematic areas including Identity, Leadership, Partnership with Government and Youth Involvement, explaining that ” this year’s celebration was jointly declared by the United Nations and the International Cooperatives Alliance, with a focus on four thematic areas including Identity, which showed that we are a Cooperatives business model and not a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). The second one focuses on leadership, while the third is where we are expected to partner with government to promote policies that will enhance cooperatives movement activities and goals, and lastly, youth involvement to ensure sustainability and continuity.”

Olaleye who commended the State government on its supports towards the progress of Cooperatives movement in the State through the supervising ministry, appealed for the release of revolving loan, revealing that the federation had in the past supported business owners with 60 billion naira in loans, while also assuring that it would be used to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and paid back into the coffers through OGSCOFED.

“We are also soliciting for support. We have discussed with our mother agency for a release of revolving loans to aid Cooperatives movement in the State, which we believe the government is working on. This would be used to support MSMEs. It has happened in both Osun and Lagos States. They supported cooperative movement through their Federation via a revolving loan, which we know would be paid back as long it passes through the Federation. In 2023, the Cooperatives movement supported MSMEs with revolving loans to the tune of 60B. It will surely be recovered because we have done this over and over. We have the audited account as evidence, and we give our assurance that the loan would be recovered. It is to be used to support young entrepreneurs in boosting their businesses. It is not a grant but a loan,” he said.

PoliticsBetrayal Of People's Trust: Sikirulai Ogundele's Shameful Exit by Ainaolusegun(op): 7:51am On Jun 29, 2025
Kazeem Oluwanisola

In a stunning display of self-serving opportunism, Sikirulai Ogundele, former PDP Chairman in Ogun State, has dealt a devastating blow to himself with his utterances exposing him as a politician lacking in integrity, character and ideology.

As the former number one member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, there is no doubt that other members entrusted in his hands their destinies and the right to lead them to the promised land.

His declaration that the PDP is "dead and ready for burial" days after is inglorious move to the All Progressives Congress is a stark revelation of his ingratitude and desperation.

*A Legacy of Ingratitude*
Ogundele's betrayal of the PDP, the party that nurtured his political career, is a testament to his questionable character. After benefiting from the PDP's platform for years, serving as local government chairman and member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Ogundele's decision to jump ship to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC is a stark indication that he prioritizes power and wealth over the welfare of the people.

*Lack of Conviction*
Ogundele's statement that the PDP is "under a spell" is laughable, considering his own role in the party's internal crises even when the party did so well in the last elections if not for the 'abracadabra' that took place.

His lack of conviction and principles is evident in his willingness to abandon the PDP for the APC, despite the party's obvious flaws.

This lack of ideology and character is a recipe for disaster and Ogundele's actions will not go unnoticed.

*The Price of Betrayal*
As the 2027 election approaches, Nigerians will see through Ogundele's self-serving motives. The people will hold accountable those who prioritize power over their welfare. Ogundele's betrayal will not be forgotten and his decision to join the APC will be seen as a slap in the face to the many Nigerians suffering under the APC's leadership. Is it the economic hardship, the insecurity and the many anti-people policies of the ruling party that would make any right thinking member of the society to join the APC, which Sikirulai himself had condemned and criticised over the years. Is it not worrisome that integrity is lost, when someone like Ogundele who has condemned the many policies of the APC now sees the party as a safe haven? It is simply a self serving individual with no pride that would swallow his vomit, while approbating and reprobating.

*The Verdict*
Sikirulai Ogundele's exit is a shameful display of opportunism. His lack of ideology, character and integrity is evident in his actions. The PDP will survive and thrive despite his betrayal. The people will reject the APC's policies and politicians like Ogundele who prioritize power over their welfare. Ogundele's legacy will be one of betrayal and self-interest, a reminder to Nigerians of the dangers of politicians who lack conviction, ideologies and principles.
