Whatever you enter from the left or right should give you the answer but as we can see you have two answers 12 and zero depending on how you enter the values.

This is not a linear equation that results in two possible values but a simple straight arithmetic equation that has only one answer which is 6!

The problem most of you shouting 12 have is that you are applying algebra sign rules to simple arithmetic where all values as absolute!

The negative or positive sign does not apply numbers on each end of the number scale but rather is the main mathematical operator!

Try and understand first and foremost the difference between algebra and simple arithmetics then you will see the answer is 6!

In mathematics, what you have written as A+B=B+A is called the law of associativity which holds for multiplication and addition only!

For subtraction and division, it doesn't hold

A-B is not equal to B-A

So whatever you have on the left doesn't give you What's on the right

Let me simplify it for you by substituting the value 3 for x

You will get the following :

X + X^2 - X + X

Note this is not a linear equation that must be equal to zero hence the rules of bodmas must be applied.

Therefore we must multiply first, then add before subtracting finally.

Hence we get:

[X + X^2] - [X + X]

[ X + X^2] - 2X

Substituting values for X = 3

[3 + 9] - 6

12 - 6

= 6


There is a reason why the OP stated that 95% of you will fail this simple test.

Olodo if you math is up to scratch, simply assign Y as the answer then do the differential in the substitute equation.

Thus:


Y = X + X^2 - X + X

dy/dx = 2X

Where the differential is the point value on a static linear scale i.e. the value on the x axis since we are not dealing with a linear curve


Substituting X = 3 we get the answer 6!

Go school una no gree go.

Try using the same calculator working from the right to left of the equation and see if you get the same answer.

You will see that your answer will be zero.

The correct answer is 6.

Treat each value as absolute and use bodmas.

I hope you know that 3+3*3-3+3 is not the same thing as 3+3-3*3+3!

In the later case case it becomes 3+3-9+3 (multiplication has highest precedence)

We receive nationwide orders from 20-30 distributors daily each order with approximately 22 lines each line ordering from 5 products to a few hundreds.

The orders come in excel format.

Also each product has a stop-ship date (date beyond which the product cannot leave the warehouse) and expiry date. Each product has a master data specifying the number of products cases in a pallet as Well as how the stop ship and expiry is calculated. Expiry dates are in the Julian calendar format.

Using ur solution, can massively import the orders without having to retype them again?
Can I set up product master data including expiry date calculation?
Does ur product split order picks into full pallet and less than full pallet picks?

With BODMAS, division and multiplication are done before addition and subtraction. When either of division/multiplication or addition/subtraction are being considered, they are performed left to right in the order they occur.

3+3*3-3+3 becomes 3+9-3+3. Evaluating from left to right, it becomes 12-3+3. Which leads to 9+3 and eventually 12

(3+3) × (3-3+3)
= (6) × (3)

If you do mathematics for a living you have been wasting your employers time. Multiplication is a binary operator so it takes the immediate operands surrounding it, in this case it is 3 on both sides.

You have modified the rule o! Division and Multiplication have a higher precedence than Addition and Subtraction. You solve the Multiplication and division before addition or Subtraction. If however only Multiplication or division are involved, you solve from left to right. If Multiplication occurs before division while moving from left to right you do d Multiplication first before the division. Same holds for addition and Subtraction.

Solving from L-R
3+3*3-3+3=3+9-3+3 (Multiplication has highest precedence
