ComputersHow Do USB Killers Work? by AjalaJ(op): 2:03am On Dec 06, 2016
The way it works is quite clever.

5V from the computer’s USB port is used to charge high voltage capacitors through a DC-DC converter up to a predetermined value, something in the order of 100V or higher.

Once the caps are charged, a switch then dumps the stored charge back through the USB’s signal lines and the cycle repeats until 5V is no longer available through the computer’s USB port, indicating the host computer has been damaged - dumping the high voltage back into the 5V line will damage the killer device itself; not a very smart thing to do, hence the signal lines.

How much damage it will do to a computer will be determined by how protected its USB port is - in some cases the motherboard traces will act as a fuse, or the USB controller will fry, and in severe cases the motherboard will be damaged.

A few clamping diodes will actually be adequate to protect the system, but proper ESD protection takes space that’s simply not available in modern slim-and-small devices.

Technology MarketWhat Would Happen If I Touched Uranium? by AjalaJ(op): 1:17am On Dec 05, 2016
I can give a personal answer, having held a large piece of pure uranium years ago.

In my teens (in the early 1970's) I was in a tech oriented Explorer Scouts troop. We met at the offices of a defense contractor. I noticed a cylindrical paper weight of dull gray metal on a desk, and at random reached to pick it up. To my surprise, it felt glued down.

With some additional effort I picked it up and marveled at how heavy it was. It was about the size of a soda can, and weighed maybe 15 lbs (7 kg). A bemused engineer saw us passing it around and explained it was a piece of "depleted" Uranium - that is uranium which is nearly pure U238, with much of the shorter half life fissile U235 removed.

U238 has a half life of 4.46 billion of years, which means that very few of its atoms decay in a short time, and when they do decay, they emit alpha particles. Alpha particles from the interior of the lump cannot pass through the dense material, and the small fraction emitted from the surface cannot even penetrate skin.

No one, including the adult engineers in charge of the group, expressed the slightest worry. I don't even think it was suggested we should wash our hands. So, now it is 45 years later, and I'm still here to tell you about it, and as far as I know so are all my fellow troop members.....

FoodCan Queen Elizabeth Cook? by AjalaJ(op): 12:53pm On Dec 04, 2016
Can Queen Elizabeth cook, and if so, is there a dish she cooks well?

She does not cook.

There was a special, I think on PBS about her, and the most she did once in awhile, which brought all the staff into shock is when she serves herself something.

It means that the dish is brought to her, set up, but it’s more than one serving, and she puts food on her plate.

This is as close to the kitchen as she gets.

CelebritiesWhat's It Like To Meet Eminem In Person? by AjalaJ(op): 12:48am On Dec 03, 2016
This is a conversation a friend of mine had with him on an airplane once.

Shady: Aren't you gonna ask for an autograph?

Friend: What?

Shady: An autograph? You want one?

Friend: Who are you?

Shady: *laughing* I'm Eminem!

Friend: And I'm skittles?

She had no idea who he was! Though the constant harassment from fans has steeled him to much personal interaction, he is never angry without reason. Friends of his such as Proof of D12, Dr Dre and Xzibit have described him as loyal and clever with a wicked sense of humour.

RomanceWhat Is The Most Effective Way To See A Person's True Personality? by AjalaJ(op): 11:58pm On Dec 01, 2016
The most effective ways to see a person's true personality is in 2 ways:

1. observe them in times of adversity (or high stress)

2. watch what they spend their money on

1.) I once had a coworker who best described would be something between Princess Diana and Hyacinth Bucket from the British series "Keeping up appearances". She'd carry herself with her nose up in the air, considering herself to be better than any of us, and would often tell anecdotes from her previous "very prestigious" job, insinuating that she is somebody, and we are nobodies.

Then one day she got herself a car, it wasn't new, but it made up for it in flashiness, and a certain "high quality" symbol on the front of the hood. She parked it in front of the office doors: once, so we wouldn't miss it going in, and second, so our low-life cars would not cramp the style of her 4-wheeled beauty.

At the end of the shift we all waked together to the parking lot, and............... her car wouldn't start! Golly, she jumped out, started yelling, cussing, throwing the F word left and right, kicking the tires and jumping up and down in anger like an insane person. That display was priceless! The mask was off, and we saw what's behind it, and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty! For those in our group who felt her belittling bite extra hard, it was like "Christmas in July".

2.) People spend their money on what they love most. If I were to look at your credit card statement, I could tell you right away where your life's priorities are (you can d that for yourself).
A person can tell you a thousand times that they have a big heart for the less fortunate, and their main charges are clothing, shoes, handbags and restaurants, believe the statement and not their words. ''For where your treasure (money) is, there your heart will be also''. So show me what kind of treasures you spend your money on, and I'll tell you what/who your true love is.

And that's how you take a peak behind the masks of a person, in order to see their true personality.

Cheers!

Angie

PhonesHow Do Teenagers Afford Crazy Expensive Phones? by AjalaJ(op): 12:51am On Dec 01, 2016
How do teenagers afford these crazy expensive phones and computers these days?

I'm 17 years old, and have an iPhone 7 and am currently building a PC that will end up costing ~$3500.

So how do I afford it?

Most people will say their parents, but mine have taught me that if I want something, I need to work for it. So I got a job.

I work 20–30 hours a week, mostly after school and sometimes on the weekend. I make $10.10 an hour, pretty good considering the minimum wage is $7.25. I enjoy my works, sometimes it can be a little stressful to balance it with school but I deal with it as best as I can. I maintain all A and B grades, so they do not suffer because of work.

And I get to afford the things I want without the help of my parents.

Technology MarketIs Apple A Dying Company? by AjalaJ(op): 9:21am On Nov 30, 2016
Stock is clearly down, and the company is headed by a supply chain guy. New products are incremental -- look ma, new colors! new sizes!. Further, being married to an ex-apple employee, I was surprised by the constant anti-intellectual, anti-research culture of the company, and now it seems to have caught up. While Apple is still immensely profitable, they've yet to come out with a blockbuster product lately. Further, knowing Steve Jobs from a distance, I can see him being just the kind of egomaniac who will feel happy if Apple died after him, showing the world how important Steve Jobs was to the world. Did he design the organizational structure for 'planned demise'?

Answer:

When I accepted a job offer at Apple this year, some friends were surprised I did so. I've been getting all sorts of comments and questions such as:
"Apple passed its prime. Why waste time at a company that has nowhere to go but down?"
"Without Steve Jobs, Apple won't be innovating anymore."
"There will never be another big opportunity like iPhone."
"Will Apple stock reach $700 ever again?"

Since I'm starting my Apple job soon and don't yet have any inside knowledge, I'll describe why I joined Apple and what I think the future holds. Once I start work, I'm going ninja stealth mode, so this is all you'll get from me.

Apple singularly focuses on creating products that delight customers so much that they're willing to pay above-market prices and feel it's absolutely worth it. It's like Noma (arguably the most creative restaurant in the world) versus McDonalds. People go to McD because it tastes ok and is really cheap. People go to Noma for the most mind-blowing culinary experience money can buy. I chose Apple because I want to spend my next 10 years developing products and operational practices that elevate society's standards for business. Was it really necessary to build computers out of highly recyclable aluminum? 100% renewable energy at all data centers? Accessibility features in Mac OS that most people don't need? No, but it was the right thing to do. Apple pushes the envelope because it has people who care about this kind of stuff.

Ultimately I accepted my offer because my interviewer (and future boss) was willing to take a chance with me knowing that I have passion and high standards but little direct experience for the job. There's nothing untouchable at Apple, he said (besides the vision of the industrial design team), and it's up to me to decide where in the company or supply chain innovation is needed. The people I've met at Apple have such intense professionalism that I wouldn't be surprised to find a piece of Steve Job's DNA in their genes.

With a week before I start my job, I've come to realize that Apple's future depends not on its ability to make elegant products, but rather its ability to create a platform for the 10,000 best developers to reach and serve customers via apps. The million developers out in the world can provide more and better content and services than any singular company can hope to produce, therefore the future winner is the one that can serve developers the most. As long as Apple makes the most delightful hardware and software environment, and prioritizes ease of apps development/delivery, then the future is bright. As you might know, software and media piracy is a huge problem in Asia, therefore a closed apps ecosystem like Apple's could be the only way for small Asian consumer software and media businesses to make profit sustainably there. International app stores will unleash the world's creative talent.

Future blockbusters will come in the form of new platforms through which developers can touch our lives. An iTV would enable apps for the living room. An iWatch would enable apps for the body, with its usefulness for developers pending on how many different biometric sensors can be crammed into a watch to estimate blood sugar, hydration, stress, etc. An iPhone/iPod/iPad would enable car apps once there's a way for the devices to talk with your car. Through an app, your car could automatically arrange an oil change appointment for you when needed, taking into account where you live and your schedule for the week. If I stay at Apple long term, I intend to bring apps and robotics to the home kitchen to help people manage their groceries and cook healthy meals effortlessly.

That said, I don't have any particular advice for Apple stock. It might not be until 2014 or much later for the next sensational hit to happen, so investors will need patience. The long term growth potential is certainly there, but success will take flawless execution.

CelebritiesWhy Do Some Intelligent People Like To Be Alone? by AjalaJ(op): 12:18am On Nov 28, 2016
If you are going to ask a question, it is improper to disable comments.

If you just wanted to write an opinion piece, the title would have been more accurately phrased in the form of a statement.

I used to be a social butterfly. Always went out on Friday and Saturday night. Lived with my wife and the girlfriend we shared. We went out partying every weekend and took many vacations. I had a group of 5 close friends that I saw almost daily. Then I moved to a place where I knew no one. I was used to the big Apple, NYC, where people came in all sizes and flavors. I now live in rural America surrounded by cows and horses. Most people around here are from the Mid West. They long for the good old days. Many do not curse and will not watch a movie where they curse or there is even partial nudity.

As someone who others have told is intelligent, my biggest problem is finding others who share my eclectic tastes. The guys around here want to play golf, drink, swim, drink, eat and drink. In NYC I always found guys into the same things I am but not where I live now, so I have been a loner for the last 4 years. No friends. My wife had friends so we socialize with them but I do not hang out with them without her.

My sense of humor and type of conversations I like are unlike theirs. They want to just talk about the weather, golf, where to go to eat and normal stuff. I like deep conversations about meaningful topics. Good example today. We were talking about new cars and how driverless cars are already here. I made the comment that cars that drive themselves will face ethical questions and therefore so will the software programs that drive them. For instance, what if your car is heading towards a group of school girls who darted across the road. The car has two options. The first is to plow into the girls to save your life or turn the car sharply and hit a tree at 60 miles per hour. What does it do? Would your choice be different if you had your wife and kids in the car and it was either them or some strangers? Do you risk crashing into one car to avoid hitting another?

As soon as I brought this up someone said they never thought about that and abruptly changed the conversation by saying that they wished they had driver side cameras too. I asked why wasn’t the mirror good enough as it can see as well as the camera and too many screens to look at would be distracting. Once again the conversation went to something else. I could not draw anyone into a conversation that required them to think deeply or logically. This is why I am a loner.

People seem to think there is something wrong with people who want to be alone. Like we have some psychological problem. I am very happy without being obligated to others or having to make compromises as to what to do when we go out with them. I do not need to be called up to drive someone somewhere when I want to relax or be brought into or subjected to their drama. Every hobby I have I can do alone. I do not need others to enjoy any of my hobbies. I have the internet to communicate with people who are interested in the same things I am in special interest forums. I have my TV and between Cable and Internet channels, more stuff that I can ever watch. I like my music and my work. I am very happy and can do whatever the hell I want to. I do not have to go out just to not make someone mad at me. I do not have to be careful not to slight one friend over another. I do exactly like I want to do and nothing that I do not want to do.

You are not just “intelligent” you seem to be HSP, I am, bumped into an article by chance two weeks ago and it has changed the way I see life a lot. By the way you should have enabled comments.

PoliticsThe Psychological Reasons Behind Buhari’s Last Election Victory by AjalaJ(op): 9:23am On Nov 27, 2016
This is my viewpoint, and if it doesn’t tally with yours, you may not find this article useful. I’m not a politician… This is just my observation.

Why are some people not happy that Buhari is now president? After all, he was elected in a free and fair election. It was because the media helped Buhari by giving him bad image during elections campaigns. They tried to show negative facts and things about him, especially during his military rule.

One good example of the negative news was AIT, that was spreading bad information about him. I would wonder why they dedicated long hours of documentaries to discredit him (someone who ruled for less than one year).

Clearly, many news agencies were biased against Buhari, while some spoke well of him. Most of the things they said about Buhari was really wrong. No wonder, the press is the most potent evil on this planet.

Some people were shocked that Buhari won the elections. One of the greatest factors that helped him achieve victory was the negative news that was spread about him. People of AIT and other enemies didn’t realize they were helping him to gain people’s sympathy, when they were trying to give him a bad image.

This should be a lesson to us. People spread bad info about Oyedepo, Adeboye, Joshua, etc. yet they go on from success to success; from strength to strength. Osupa sings rubbish about Pasuma, and Pasuma is just gaining more and more popularity. People speak ill of Linda Ikeji, Kim Kardashian, and yet they’re moving higher and higher.

Certain people who didn’t want to vote for Buhari decided to vote for him, simply because the press was spreading negative news about him. This is also the major reason why Trump won the US presidential elections: the Press was biased against Trump, and they helped him gain lots of popularity, without knowing it. The press contributed to his victory.

It was like the issue of a man who’s trying to bad-mouth another man, in the presence of a pretty girl, so that the girl can be discouraged. The girl still goes ahead to marry that bad-mouthed man.

LESSON: When people speak ill of you, when they spread bad information about you, when they slander you, they’re simply helping you to achieve your goals, your popularity, and your progress.

CareerHow Much Does Mark Zuckerberg Actually Make In A Year? by AjalaJ(op): 11:19pm On Nov 26, 2016
In connection with his employment with Facebook, Mr. Zuckerberg receives a $1 per year salary, no bonus and no stock-based compensation, in his position as CEO of Facebook.

During the latest fiscal year, his W-2 was 'dinged' for $610K, representing the value of his personal use of the company aircraft, but he never received that amount as a cash payment.

Very likely, he also has other income from investments, but those figures are not a matter of public record.

PhonesWhat Is The Most Embarrassing Thing You Found On Someone's Phone? by AjalaJ(op): 8:55am On Nov 26, 2016
This happened when I was 10, around 7 years ago. I was dumb and naïve.

One day my uncle (chacha) came to our home from village and his marriage was due in a month or so. There was a happy ambiance and the elders were talking about the arrangements.

I was getting bored so I asked him for his phone, I wanted to play, of course. He gave it to me. But soon I realised that he didn't have anything even remotely interesting in his phone so I started scrolling through his gallery. Sure enough, all I found was stupid mirror selfies and pictures of bikes.

But then at the end of it, there was a folder named X, I opened it. Another folder. I opened that. Another folder! This went for around 10 folders and finally what this 10 year old girl saw, shocked her. Hundreds of pictures of naked women! Not secretly taken though, these women were posing. (He probably got em from the internet?)

But in all honesty, I was more amused than shocked. I had seen naked women before (horrible memory, lol) but never thought that they let themselves get photographed! So after going through all the pictures I went to the room where all of the elders were seated and showed the images to each one of them as I laughed hysterically.

I vividly remember, at first my uncle didn't realise what I was showing to the others. When my mother's turn came to see the pictures, she looked at the phone, then at me, then at uncle, then back at the phone, and calmly said, “I don't understand what you're showing, give the phone back to him.”

This was the moment his eyes widened and he realised what I'd done.

Needless to say, a very awkward silence followed and my mom doesn't like him any longer. He is infamously tagged the black sheep of the family.

Back then I felt stupid because my mom somehow didn't find it funny. But now, I feel stupid because damn it, I was a jerk and what I did was embarrassing on so many levels!

Yeah, I was a nice kid. *Wink*

EducationLearn How To Create Gold From Scratch by AjalaJ(op): 1:09am On Nov 25, 2016
Is it possible to create gold from scratch?

YES, it is absolutely possible to create gold from scratch. In fact, it is surprisingly easy to make it if you know what you’re doing.

You will need the following ingredients before you can create it:

2 neutron stars, so dense that the mass of New York State is contained in the tip of a pinhead. These are stars that have collapsed under their own gravity but are not quite dense enough to form a black hole.

Mash them together at massive speed and gravity, so that they explode in an intense burst of radiation that can be seen right across the galaxy.

For a few seconds you will be able to create a few TONS of gold from scratch!
So you see, given the right ingredients it’s very easy to create gold from scratch!

HealthHere's Why You Get Eye Boogers by AjalaJ(op): 12:15am On Nov 24, 2016
Many do not take kindly to the thought of eye boogers — those hard bits of crust that you wipe from your eyes when you wake up each morning. But you'd miss them pretty dearly if they weren’t there.

The complex wonders that are your eyes are coated by a three-layer tear film: the glycocalyx layer, made of mucus, which directly coats the cornea; a very thin, watery layer that helps spread the tears; and an oily layer made of meibum, which is secreted consistently by about 50 glands around the top rim of your eyelid and 25 glands lining the bottom one.

Eye boogers — technically known as rheum or gound but commonly referred to as sleepies or eye gunk — are a cocktail that is mostly meibum, with some parts mucus from the glycocalyx layer and other parts dirt and debris that you catch in your eye during the day.

Normally, you blink debris away during the day — and the older you are, the more you fight eye junk. Adults blink at a rate of about 20 per minute; babies only do it about twice per minute. (There are some studies as to why younger people are less inclined to bat an eye; one notes that babies have a "smaller eye opening and a thinner layer of fats and tear film," though what mattered more as far as blinking was concerned was whether the baby was engaged with an object or activity.)

Blinking protects the eyes by squeezing the meibomian gland, letting loose the oily secretion, and mixing all layers together to lubricate the entire system with the complex lipid and protein solution that makes up your tears. The act of fluttering your eyelids is also said to give your brain a miniature rest.

When you sleep, your eyes remain shut, and as you rest, a mixture of debris is free to gather. The main meibum component, which is a liquid consistency at during the daytime, dries up because your body temperature drops slightly at night — enough to turn those tear-protecting oils into a solid.

Meibum has the important job of keeping your tear film from evaporating, and it also prevents tears from constantly streaming down your face all day (unless you're highly attuned to your emotions). Without sufficient meibum, you're left with dry eyes, redness, struggling vision, and an impressive used tissue mountain. Be thankful for the eye boogers.

Foreign AffairsWhat Would Happen If Someone Spat In Queen Elizabeth's Face? by AjalaJ(op): 9:43am On Nov 23, 2016
I can tell you for sure the soldiers guarding The Queen will beat you to a bloody pulp.

I recall an incident back in the 1980s when H.M. was returning on horseback from some parade, and some random nutter just lunged forward. The nearest soldier just went Full Metal Ballistic at the nutter and tackled him down as flat as a pancake. Then the constables came along and flattened him a bit more.

The rest of the onlookers were as described — looking on with approval.

You’ll have to search the Internet for that incident — it’s in the news at the time.

The newspapers later interviewed the soldier. If memory serves, he was quoted as saying that he “felt that raw anger” at seeing H.M. on the verge of being attacked.

I don’t think it would be much different today.

FamilyWhat Are Sneaky Ways To Get Pregnant? by AjalaJ(op): 9:16pm On Nov 22, 2016
A former close friend of mine did something that I only found out about after the baby was born in January. She had an IUD in and took it out without telling anyone. Then she got the father drunk and they had sex and well…nine months later a beautiful baby girl was born.

She told me originally that the IUD fell out and she had no idea. Then she told me she was happy she got pregnant because she would get another kid that would love her for 18 more years. It was actually really creepy the way she said it. She has a 16-year-old daughter already with a different man and her daughter hates her. I’ve been even closer friends with her daughter (she’s like a sister to me) and she is leaving to go live with her dad in the fall because of how terrible her mom is to her.

She was using the fact that she had 85% custody to trick her daughter into staying with her but finally they had a hearing the other day and now my friend can get out of that toxic environment for good. Mom’s still guilting her though..says if something happens to the baby then it’s her fault, how could she be so selfish to leave her with a newborn, etc etc. News flash: that newborn wouldn’t be there if she hadn’t lied and secretly planned this pregnancy.

I know I’m getting off topic but I just want to explain why getting pregnant was a horrible thing to do. First, she did it purely out of her own self-interests. Second, she deceived someone who thought she was on birth control. Lastly, she is a drug addict. She abuses barbituates, benadryl, and benzodiazepines and I only realized this when her new baby came out and started going through withdrawals. The nurses found a lot of pills in her purse that she was taking on top of the meds they were giving her and CYS was called. I found two more bottles of benadryl that they missed later.

She also is faking that she has MS which is even more horrible but I won’t go into it. Basically, she gets so high on drugs and abuses her prescriptions to the point where she will fall asleep while in the middle of a sentence, her texts look more like “fdjhgwega” and make no sense, and she also falls asleep in the middle of taking care of and while holding her new baby. She’s pretty much forced her other daughter (my friend) to be the mom. My friend has missed school to take care of the baby and hasn’t been able to be a teen anymore. CYS and police have been called so many times and it’s infuriating how they are so clueless.

Anyway……. sneakily getting pregnant is a terrible and selfish idea because you are not only hurting yourself in the long-run. It takes two to get pregnant and once the baby comes, you better have your life together or it gets rough really quick. Babies are not accessories and they should never be put in a situation where they could be hurt or even killed.

Foreign AffairsWill Hillary Clinton Go To Jail? by AjalaJ(op): 9:31pm On Nov 21, 2016
There is some discussion of bringing felony charges against Hillary Clinton. What is the nature of these arguments and how likely is it to occur?

Donald Trump said if he got elected she would be in jail!

Answer:
For all the crimes she has actually committed? She will, as Joss Whedon says, be deservedly sentenced to hard labour in a room that doesn’t even have any corners. Which is precisely what she deserves at this point.

If you have evidence she has actually committed a crime, please forward it to either the FBI or the Republican Party. They’ve been trying for years on a wide range of topics to prove she’s committed a crime and they haven’t found anything significant yet.

Foreign AffairsWhy Are Europeans So Ignorant About America? by AjalaJ(op): 10:41am On Nov 21, 2016
“Americans are fat, stupid, racist, war lovers.” Remarks like this are all over the internet, on FaceBook, YouTube, even on Quora, and are often left by Europeans. Why are you guys so judgmental? In a nation of 320 million not all people are the same or fit stereotypes the world has about Americans.

ANSWER:

Really?

I will never forget the night I was with my students in the Youth Hostel in Nuremberg and we started talking with a group of same-aged Germans.

“Where you guys from?” they asked in English.

“Minnesota,” my students answered.

“Jesse Ventura. How do you like your governor?” they asked.

One of the more observant of my students asked this: “How would you know that? Most of us couldn’t even name the current leader of Germany and you can come up with the name of our governor?”

Jesse Ventura was the opener. Next, one of them asked whether we thought NASA should be privatized. None of my university students or their teacher had even considered the idea. Now a German kid from Munich was schooling us on US policy choices.

“It is more important for Germans to know what it going on in America than it is for Americans to know the same about Germany,” said one of them finally. No truer words were ever spoken.

So when I read a question like this, which is totally unaware that just the opposite is true, I have no particularly polite way to say that the question is really off base. Actually ignorant. I just spent three weeks in Spain and France. Everyone was talking about two things — Donald Trump and the Chicago Cubs.

Think for a moment about Melania Trump, our new first lady. She is from Slovenia. How many Americans actually have any concept of Slovenia? (How many know that it is not the same as Slovakia?) While my former European classmates had spent years studying geography in school, I remember learning some basics in grade school that were virtually never addressed again.

Foreign AffairsIs Abraham Lincoln Overrated? by AjalaJ(op): 11:25pm On Nov 20, 2016
Think about it, 620,000 soldiers died! Don’t you think the sitting president of the most American deaths could have been a better diplomat? Barring what the issues were it seems like there could have been a better way. The Union won because of money and population more than any great strategy.

Answer: The Confederates shot first. It was not an accident, not a unit that went rogue, and not short-lived. They kept it up for days. When a ship arrived to relieve the United States soldiers they were shooting at, they shot at it too.

Was there an apology? Reparations? Punishment for those who fired on Fort Sumter? None of the above.

Abraham Lincoln was bound by his oath. He came into office prepared and willing to negotiate. The traitors did not give him the chance. There was nothing else he could do.

Don't shoot at American soldiers. Ever. You will be made to regret it.

FamilyWhy Do People Give Birth To Children They Don’t Need? by AjalaJ(op): 8:07am On Nov 20, 2016
This is an objective article, not a subjective one.

There are those who really need children? They want children and they are able to take care of them. May the desires of their hearts be granted.

A newlywed couple would normally desire children. A couple with only one or two kids may desire one more. This is a logical reason.

There are those who need children for logical reasons. There are those who need children for strange reasons. This piece is about those who need children for strange reasons.

Who are those having children for irrational reasons? Let me give you a few examples out of numerous.

A case study: Someone has had 7 or 8 boys, but they keep on having children by the same woman or second woman because they need a girl. Does he want to take that girl to his grave? This is also applicable to someone who has 7 or 8 girls, and is desperate for a male child? Who tells him that female children aren’t even better than male children?

Example 1:
One man has 5 kids through the first wife, who’s now estranged and separated from him. He married a second wife and has two kids from her. One kid is dead, one is alive. The second wife is now dead, and the man, who’s currently old, has started cohabiting with another woman (who happens to have kids through previous relationships). They now plan to have another child because they think their affair means nothing if it produces no children. And this is a man that can barely feed himself, not to mention paying his young children school fees. His older children are living on their own, but they’re not buoyant enough to assist their dad.

Example 2:
One landlady has 3 kids, and the last born is 13 year old. But because a newlywed couple packed into one of their rented apartments, and the new wife got pregnant, the landlady became jealous and got pregnant for her husband again (at an advanced age). She puts her life at risk because of inordinate jealousy.

Example 3:
One woman has 2 kids through a previous disastrous marriage. Her former husband has rejected those two kids, though they’re his. The woman later married a polygamist who already has numerous children from two women. She became the 3rd wife (and she’s a Pentecostal Christian). The new husband built a house for each of his wife, and the 3rd wife has another 2 kids for him: a boy and a girl. The 3rd wife is doing all in her power to prevent their husband from marrying the 4th wife. The husband has built another house and the 4th wife is already there, expecting a baby. Because of this the 3rd wife became jealous and got pregnant for their husband again, knowing full well that this man believes more in building houses than in paying his children’s school fees. Is this new baby needed?

Example 4:
2 female neighbors who’re extremely jealous of each other are competing with giving births. They both get 5 kids, and when one gives birth to a new baby, the other one would give birth within the next 9 months. The competition is ongoing. These women don’t have rich husbands, and they keep on blaming the federal governments for their financial woes.

Example 5:
Another woman who’s already had 6 children they’re struggling to feed, recently got pregnant again because she sensed that her husband is sleeping around. She wants to use the pregnancy and a new baby to “tie” her husband down and attract his attention. This is what some women are doing. Does this strategy work?

These are couple and cohabiters who can’t feed themselves, and they keep on giving birth to children after children after children.

They think God that created man has created what the mouth would eat. Is a fulfilling life only about eating? At the time of writing this article, close to 800 million people are seriously hungry worldwide, and about 30,000 people died of hunger on November 5, 2016 alone. Why didn’t food fly to their mouths miraculously? Superstitions have really put us in bondage.

Superstitions are one of the factors contributing to problems in Nigeria. We read about great people in the past; but we read about them because of what they achieved, not because of the children they had. 2 hundred years to this time, it won’t matter again whether you had children or not.

In some European countries, the governments take care of housing, health insurance, education and more. Yet their citizens don’t give birth anyhow. In Nigeria, you take care of all responsibilities yourself, doing so with your blood and sweat. Yet, you bear children indiscriminately.

At the end, people would blame the government for the results of their own actions. Nigerians do stupid things and blame others for it.

Some older people have children who can’t take care of them because those children aren’t financially OK.

Why do people have children they don’t need? The children they can’t take care of, with the hope of a brighter future. Years ago, people had this hope and what was the result? Population explosions with increasing poverty and social atrocities. Clearly, illusions aren’t a good thing.

CrimeHow Can You Tell If A Soldier Is Fake? by AjalaJ(op): 10:47pm On Nov 19, 2016
How can you tell if a person is pretending to be a soldier?

Well…

Here are dead giveaways.

They don’t know the Jargon. Scuttlebut is a water cooler and also gossip. Blouse is shirt. Trousers are pants. Cover is hat. Semper Fi is Semper Fi. You get the idea.

Over patriotism, overly nationalistic. Yes. Soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen are generally patriotic, nationalistic, and proud of America. However, they’re not verbally overtly crazy about it. Trust me, you’ll know when you see it…

F**ked up uniforms. Uniforms, when worn, are supposed to be amazing and professional and sharp. So if its all scruffy, medals and ribbons are upside down, someone’s wearing an Army medal on a Marine Corps uniform, etc, you’ll know. Sometimes, though, they’re tough to detect. Look at the video. Something just looks… Wrong… Scroll down. See, he’s got a CIB on his uniform. Now, this might be feasible… I mean, MSGT? He could have been in Army but re-enlisted, easily. He could have been in combat, gotten the CIB, etc. But look at how young he is… Kinda young for Master Sergeant…

Unique to Marines: Wearing MCCUUs off base. The MCCUU, or Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, is the Marine Corps utility uniform. Its either in a greenish or tannish camo, and if its being worn in public and its not an emergency like a car broken down or a Marine running from a nearby base to help, something is wrong. Marines are only allowed to wear the MCCUU while on base. They can’t even wear it for the 10 minutes to get a flipping coffee at a Starbucks! An anecdote from a gas station employee, she said that if you looked out the window you could see Marines changing in their cars, out of their MCCUUs and into t shirts and jeans. Pretty much the only times: At recruiting events, at Fleet Week, on base, or in an emergency.

People are pointing out to me he has 3 CIBs! Normally 3 CIBs on its own is unique, and the space in between Vietnam and the War On Terror is something of 48 years. The most badass guy in existence, Chesty Puller (don’t bother convincing me otherwise) only had what, 34 years?

Most triple CIB recipients have earned it in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Looks kinda young for a WWII vet…

Cy Birr has pointed out to me the person, Nick Androsky in the photo does indeed have a mental disorder, which took his like in ‘14. Before that, he was a proud servicemember.

Mr. Androsky’s disorder worsened, and that was what caused him to act that way.

Now, we should still keep a sharp eye out for fakes and frauds who would do that to get free discounts and free stuff. But at the same time if someone isn’t right in the head, lets feel bad for them. They might not know what they are doing is wrong.

FamilyShould I Tell My Husband That The Daughters He Loves So Much Don’t Belong To Him by AjalaJ(op): 12:05pm On Nov 19, 2016
Should I tell my husband that the daughters he loves so much don’t belong to him?

My husband loves both of his daughters a lot, but he isn't their father. Should I tell him?

I am love married for 15 years now and living happily with my husband and two daughters 14 & 13 years old.

He is not their real father and he is not aware of that.
From my college days when I was dating him, I used to have casual sex with guys around.

Please don't ask me about counts.
After marrige I became a housewife and was less social.
But this didn't change me.

I still get to meet guys when my husband was out which included his cousin, friends, laundry man, neighbours etc.
So in short I did it with multiple guys.

And I have no regrets,I still do it but less frequently.

When my daughters where 5 & 6 I got their dna tested and as expected came to know he isn't their father.

He is a good man though, but I feel if I tell him,he will leave me, and that will affect my daughters life financially.

So what should I do?

ANSWER:

I’m going to assume this is a joke post. Assuming it isn’t—big mistake on my part—here’s my answer and it’s going to be somewhat harsh.

What you did before your marriage is your business. I fooled around quite a bit before I got married, had multiple girlfriends, enjoyed life, and I don’t have a double standard where men sleeping around is okay while for women it isn’t. Women are free to do what they want and more power to them, but…

Men don’t get pregnant. You did. From other men. And your attitude since you found out has been nothing short of hypocritical. You continued having extra-marital affairs, had two children with different men, and you are using your husband as an ATM machine.

He loves his children….he doesn’t know they’re not biologically his. Have you given a thought to how he feels or how he would feel if he knew? I don’t think you have, at least, not much, according to your letter.

You care for your daughters, but don’t care enough to be faithful to your husband or at least tell him the truth. So FWIW, you owe him the truth. If he leaves you, he’s more than justified, IMO. If he doesn’t, you should be thankful and you should leave, as he is the superior parent in this situation.

Foreign AffairsWhat Do We Do Now That Trump Has Won? by AjalaJ(op): 9:53am On Nov 16, 2016
A billionaire businessman with no political experience, virtually no serious policy proposals, and a surreal campaign built upon the ugliest elements of human nature has won the nation’s highest office.

So what happens now?

One immediate effect is a drastic shock to the world’s financial system. Even earlier in the night, when Trump appeared to have momentum but was nowhere near to securing the presidency, American futures markets and international stock markets were crashing, as was the value of the U.S. dollar.

This is entirely in line with experts’ predictions: For months the prospect of a Trump presidency has represented volatility, and his stated economic views are widely seen as disastrous for not only the American but the global economy. A Trump presidency would “likely cause the stock market to crash and plunge the world into recession,” Simon Johnson, an MIT economist, predicted, The New York Times reported.

Many have compared a Trump victory to Brexit—the surprise decision of the United Kingdom to separate from the European Union—which also had global economic consequences. Only Trump’s victory was much more unexpected, and likely much more consequential, considering the size of the American economy.

What about the first days of a Trump presidency? What will it look like?

In his first 100 days in office, Trump has pledged to build his famous border wall, renegotiate or withdraw from NAFTA, appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton, repeal Obamacare, and initiate mass deportations of undocumented citizens, among other things.

But can he actually do any of this?

To some extent, yes. Even without the support of the congress, Trump can lean heavily on executive orders, particularly to repeal executive orders issued by President Obama. And analysts have predicted he will.

“He’s going to try to start with a bang by taking as much of Obama off the books with a stroke of his pen as he possibly can,” William Galston, with the Brookings Institute, told CNBC.

In particular, Trump has repeatedly vowed to get rid of Obamacare on “Day One,” promising to have Congress convene a special session. But even with a Republican House and Senate, any repeal of the law would be complicated and likely take months, experts say.

Swift presidential actions are often much harder in reality than in theory. “I’d be careful what you target first,” Susan Dudley, who served in the George W. Bush administration, told CNN. “I think there could be large reforms, especially working with Congress, but recognize that that will take years, not 100 days.”

And many of Trump’s promises, of course, are utterly implausible. Mexico will not be paying for a wall, for example.

What about foreign affairs?

It’s ugly. The only question is how ugly.

Ian Bremmer, a global research professor at NYU, predicted in an analysis for Politico Magazine that one immediate effect of a Trump win would be an immediate turn on the global stage away from the U.S. and towards other powers, particularly China. “Allies in Asia will hedge their bets on American staying power with a stronger China,” he said.

There could be even more dramatic and dangerous events ahead. Because of Trump’s extreme anti-Muslim rhetoric, his "presidency would make the United States, its citizens, and its assets the single most attractive target for Al Qaeda, ISIL, and other Islamic militant groups,” Bremmer said.

Meanwhile, throughout Trump’s candidacy, white nationalist and other extremist movements flourished, emboldened by the businessman’s tacit and explicit encouragement. Back in August, Buzzfeed reported that the chair of the American Nazi Party, Rocky Suhayda, called a Trump victory “a real opportunity for people like white nationalists.” Now that he’s the president-elect, these forces will likely continue to grow, no matter what he does in office.

TV/MoviesWhy I Hate Chinese Movies by AjalaJ(op): 10:15am On Nov 14, 2016
When I was young, especially during my teenage years, I loved Chinese movies so much. Talk about Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and others.

The way they fought, the film tricks and effects, all fascinated me – even till my late 20s.

Now I hate Chinese movies. Why?

I’ve grown older and have had many experiences in life. I know that those movies are often full of things that aren’t realistic. They can’t happen like that in real life. Why should I waste my time watching only fantasies?

Now, I’ve many logical and rational things to do with my life and for the benefits of others; and definitely, Chinese movies aren’t one of them.

Another thing is: Chinese movies plots sound like rubbish to me now. Senseless fights. Fights that have no meanings. In reality, can one strong man beat and subdue 100 dangerous thugs?

Two persons meet each other on a road and one say: “I’m stronger than you.” The other person replies: “No, I’m stronger than you.” And they both start fighting. Do you see any sense in that? These used to intrigue me as a young person, but that’s no longer true.

That’s part of the reasons why I don’t like Chinese movies anymore. Movies that portray rationality, logic, and realities make more sense to me now.

EducationA Gross Misconception About Father Christmas by AjalaJ(op): 9:39am On Nov 13, 2016
You know who a Father Christmas is.

People wrongly think Father Christmas gives free gifts. Most importantly, they refer to him when they want to talk about giving things free – giving things for nothing.

A boss may tell his employees: “What have you produced this month, to warrant salaries? Do you think I’m a Father Christmas?”

Someone may say: “Don’t expect me give you something for nothing. I’m not a Father Christmas.”

Clearly, people think of a Father Christmas when mentioning someone who gives gifts to people free. They can’t be more wrong!

Look, Father Christmas doesn’t give free gifts! Not in Nigeria. Have you ever seen one of them giving gifts to people indiscriminately, who’ve not contributed anything before? When you want to see a Father Christmas, you would pay a fee, and it’s from that the gifts you receive come from.

What your Children get as gifts aren’t free, and you know that. These people are making money from you. They collect N2000 to give you things that are worth only N1000 or N1500. They’re doing business. They make money from you.

Christmas itself is business. People use that opportunity to swindle others, to hike price unfairly and wickedly, putting more burden on people, in the name of Christmas. People run a rat race and make life difficult for themselves.

So, if you want to talk about free gifts, you can use another metaphor. Please don’t mention Father Christmas; he doesn’t give free gifts. He’s a businessman – or an employee of a businessman. He may even be an atheist or an infidel who doesn’t go to church. It doesn’t matter.

The masses has a gross misconception about Father Christmas. Father Christmas doesn’t give free gifts: he gives people less then what he collects from them.

TravelCan I Stick My Head Out Of A Flying Airplane Window? by AjalaJ(op): 7:58am On Nov 12, 2016
If an aeroplane window could be opened, what would happen if you stick your head out of it when flying?

Well there has been one incident that happened on British Airways Flight 5390, a BAC 1–11.

On this flight from England to Spain, the maintenance had used the wrong screws to fix the cockpit windshield, as you see, they screwed up (pun intended.)

At 17, 400 ft, the windshield blew off, sucking the captain out of the cockpit.

Luckily, the flight attendants reacted just in time to hold him back, the captain was also clinging on to the yoke with his feet pushing the plane down.

Amazingly, the co pilot was able to make an emergency landing in Southampton, with no loss of life and no injury. The only injury was the captain.

Now to answer your question: What would happen if you stuck your head out of the window during flight? First you would get sucked out, and like the captain, you would get bruises, frostbite, and shock, maybe even worse. He also got many fractures as well. The flight attendant who held him in got a dislocated shoulder as well as frostbite.

Christianity EtcIs Homosexuality Wrong? by AjalaJ(op): 9:24am On Nov 11, 2016
YOUNG PEOPLE ASK

“Growing up, one of the most difficult things I had to deal with was my attraction to others of the same sex. I used to think it was just a phase, but those feelings plague me still.”—David, 23.

David is a Christian who wants to please God. Can he do that while feeling attracted to those of the same sex? How does God really feel about homosexuality?

What does the Bible say?
Does that mean . . . ?
But what if . . . ?
What does the Bible say?

Attitudes about homosexuality may vary from one culture to the next or from one time period to another. But Christians aren’t governed by popular opinion or “carried here and there by every wind of teaching.” (Ephesians 4:14) Instead, they base their view of homosexual conduct (and any other kind of conduct, for that matter) on the standards set forth in the Bible.

The Bible’s standard regarding homosexual acts is clear. God’s Word says:

“You must not lie down with a male in the same way that you lie down with a woman.”—Leviticus 18:22.
“God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, . . . gave them over to uncontrolled sexual passion, for their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature.”—Romans 1:24, 26.
“Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom.”—1 Corinthians 6:9, 10.
In reality, God’s standards apply to all people, whether they have homosexual desires or heterosexual desires. The fact is, everyone must exercise self-restraint when it comes to urges to engage in conduct that displeases God.—Colossians 3:5.

Does that mean . . . ?

Does that mean the Bible promotes hatred of gays?

No. In fact, the Bible doesn’t promote hatred of anyone—gay or straight. Rather, it tells us to “pursue peace with all people,” regardless of their lifestyle. (Hebrews 12:14) So it’s wrong to engage in bullying, hate crimes, or any other type of mistreatment of homosexuals.

Does that mean that Christians should oppose laws that allow same-sex marriage?

The Bible shows that God’s standard for marriage calls for the union of one man and one woman. (Matthew 19:4-6) However, discussions of human laws on same-sex marriage relate to a political issue, not a moral one. The Bible tells Christians to remain politically neutral. (John 18:36) Therefore, they neither advocate nor oppose governmental laws involving same-sex marriage or homosexual conduct.

But what if . . . ?

But what if someone currently practices homosexuality? Can that person change?

Yes. In fact, some in the first century did so! After stating that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit God’s Kingdom, the Bible says: “That is what some of you were.”—1 Corinthians 6:11.

Does that mean those who stopped practicing homosexuality no longer felt any inclination toward their former lifestyle? No. The Bible says: “Clothe yourselves with the new personality, which through accurate knowledge is being made new.” (Colossians 3:10) Change is an ongoing process.

But what if someone who wants to follow God’s standard still has homosexual urges?

As with any urge, a person can choose not to nurture or act on those urges. How? The Bible says: “Keep walking by spirit and you will carry out no fleshly desire at all.”—Galatians 5:16.

Notice that the verse doesn’t say that the person will have no fleshly desire. Instead, armed with a good spiritual routine of Bible study and prayer, he or she will have the strength to resist those desires.

David, mentioned at the outset, found that to be true—especially after he confided in his Christian parents about his struggle. “It was a tremendous burden off my shoulders,” he says, “and I probably would have enjoyed my teen years a lot more if I had talked to them sooner.”

In the end, we are happier when we conform to Jehovah’s standards. We are convinced that they “are righteous, causing the heart to rejoice,” and that “in keeping them, there is a large reward.”—Psalm 19:8, 11.

Foreign AffairsHow Should Soldiers Behave When They Are Captured? by AjalaJ(op): 9:21am On Nov 10, 2016
During the war in Bosnia I once saw a soldier sitting all by himself in the chow hall. He didn’t talk to anybody, didn’t touch his food and I saw that one of his ears was missing. Later on, one of my comrades told me his story:

This Croatian soldier was fighting in a dense forest when a bullet hit his leg. Separated from his unit he was captured by the enemy. Although wounded and bleeding he was severely beaten up. Then the enemy dragged him to the next Serb city where a mob of civilians was already waiting for him. They wanted to burn him alive and just when they got a big fire started and were ready to throw him into it, the military police showed up and saved our man.

He was then put on the back of a truck and brought to Banja Luka, which was the capitol of the Bosnian Serbs. During the drive more prisoners of war were uploaded and at every stop they were all beaten with rifle butts and iron rods. When the truck finally arrived at its destination half of the prisoners had died.

The captured soldier then came to a military prison where the beating went on. The Serbs mistakenly thought that he was a brigade commander, so he got interrogated and beaten even more. Finally they realized that he wasn’t the big fish they expected him to be and he was somehow treated a little better, but he still got beaten up at least once a day.

The Croats negotiated his release and after a couple of months and after paying a 30,000 dollar “fee for his lawyers” he was released. Being a tall guy and a former boxer he was down to only 45 kilos and had lost one ear and all his teeth.

Later on I met more guys who were prisoners of war. One of them was taking 5 showers a day and was washing his hands every 5 minutes. During his time as a POW he had never been allowed to clean himself up and was now overcompensating for it.

Near the end of the war I found myself in a POW camp in central Bosnia, not as a prisoner of war, but as a espionage suspect, which didn’t make things any better. Luckily I got cleared after a month and a half, but it was still a very bad experience.

I also received my fair share of SERE (Survival, Resistance, Evasion and Escape) training during my time as a paratrooper in the German army. Based on this training and what I saw in Bosnia and later in Kosovo, here are some general observations about what to do when getting captured:

Prepare yourself. First of all, during a combat mission, don’t carry anything on you that might harm you when getting caught. This means not only military information, but family pictures, home addresses and everything else that makes you vulnerable.
Tattoos that are depicting unit emblems, political or religious symbols might also get you in a lot of trouble. “Semper Fi”, “Kill them all- let’s god sort them out” or “I love Jesus” might not go down so well with the Taliban. These tattoos might even haunt you years later. A lot of Croats who live in Bosnia still have to cover up their “Ustasa” tattoos when travelling across the country, even years after the war. A Swedish volunteer who served with me in Bosnia got stabbed by some Bosnian refugees in his Swedish home town after they found out that he was fighting against their people.

The first hours after being taken POW are critical. This is the most dangerous time as you are often in the hands of trigger happy combat soldiers pumped with adrenaline. They might just kill you for one false move.

These first hours are also the best opportunity for you to escape! Combat units are not trained to guard POWs and often they don’t have enough soldiers to spare to properly secure their prisoners. Later on you will have to deal with military police or specialized units which will make an escape much harder. Further, if you decide to escape from a military prison or an insurgent camp your enemy will retaliate and kill your comrades that you have left there.

Don’t expect a special POW status. In modern conflicts which are often counterinsurgencies, the Geneva conventions for the treatment of prisoners of war do not exist. You might be banged up with common criminals or civilian hostages.

Therefore:
Most of the “informal” prison rules are also valid for POWs. For example: Mind your own business. Avoid eye contact with other prisoners and guards, but especially:
Don’t trust anybody. You might have some cell mates you don’t know. They might be spies to hear you out or simply try to take advantage of you for their own survival.

During interrogations don’t think that you can outsmart your opponent. And don’t play dumb! Most of today’s regular and irregular armies have sophisticated intelligence organizations. You will deal with professionals who know what they are doing. As there is probably not much what they don’t know already there is also no reason to play the hero: Spill the beans and tell them what they want to know. Forget the “Name, Rank and Unit” thing.

Even after having provided them with information you might get beaten up, raped and tortured just for the pleasure of your captors. They enjoy hearing you scream in pain. There isn’t much that you can do, but some POWs succeeded in pretending that they had passed out. Then the torturers usually gave the victims a break to recover.

After the torture and interrogations there will be extended periods of boredom and isolation. Try to keep your mind busy by remembering events, books and movies, songs or prayers.

Never give up hope! You might be saved much sooner than you expect.
Try to take care of your body! Most probably you won’t have enough calories in your food to allow you to do much sport, but try at least to keep your body flexible with some stretching.

Use every opportunity there is to clean yourself, especially your teeth, your feet and your behind.

You might get sentenced to death or to a long prison term for “war crimes”. This is most often a bluff and serves to destroy your morale. If your captors have kept you alive for that long you will probably have more value for them alive than dead.

The main problem will be to stay mentally healthy. There isn’t much you can do against the physical torture anyway.

What you do after your release is also very important. Don’t hesitate to ask for psychological help. Often the family of a former POW plays an important role in his recovery. It’s important to have somebody to listen to your story.

Don’t think you can shake this off easily. Aside from being killed, being a POW is the worst thing that can happen to you in a war. You might feel mentally strong after your release, but the problems will come sooner or later, sometimes after months or years.

Having been a Prisoner of War will change a person completely. Accept that you are not the person you were used to be, but somebody different and explain this to your loved ones.

Good luck!
