SportsA Strong Case For Samson Siasia by AjaoMT2(op): 5:13pm On Aug 22, 2016
“You can’t argue with results,” it has been said. You may not like Jose Mourinho for his antics and tactics, but you can’t argue with his results. Neither can you say Pep Guardiola was just lucky to have coached a great teams like Barcelona with great success. The results are there. You can say Carlo Ancelotti is too nice and won’t be able to exercise control over his players yet he has had great results. Same goes for the recent successes of Zinedine Zidane with Real Madrid and Claudio Rainieri with Leicester.
We all laud these Managers’ achievements and hold them in high esteem. Yet we tragically fail to recognize the achievements of our or downplay it or attribute it to certain factors. Samson Siasia has taken Nigeria to three major international championships (and that after the gruelling African qualifiers in each instance) and has won a Silver medal twice and a Bronze medal one.
His major achievements are as follows:
Competition Achievements
2015 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Champions - Gold
Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Football 2nd Runner Up - Bronze
Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics Football 1st Runner-Up - Silver
2005 FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship 1st Runner Up - Silver
African Youth Championship 2005 Champions - Gold
2009 African Youth Championship 2nd Runner Up - Bronze

Others can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samson_Siasia

While he might not have won a gold medal on the International stage, 2 Silver medals and 1 Bronze medal are not too shabby. The argument of them being age grade competitions and hence susceptible to cheating does not really hold much water. For while Nigeria might have won the Under 17 tournament several times, how come the best we have achieved to date in the Under 20 tournament is Bronze in 1985, Silver in 1989 and the 2005 silver in 2005 by Siasia’s team. This goes on to show that age cheating seems to matter much less by the time you get to the Under 20 level , talk less of the Under 23 level, by which time the effect of age teaching, if present, would not be so relevant.
What makes Siasia’s achievements in 2008 and 2016 remarkable is that he has been able to accomplish these feats with average teams. I said average because none of those who played in the 2008 and 2016 editions could have walked into the glorious 1996 team including Mikel. In that team we had several world class players in Jay Jay Okocha , Taribo West, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amunike, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh Celestine Babayaro, Uche Okechukwu, etc. Tell me, which player have we produced in the past 15 years that would have benched any these ones? None in my estimation - though some like Yobo, Osaze and Martins in their prime might come a bit close. Just a bit. You just wonder what Siasia would have achieved if he had been able to take the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa and Odion Ighalo to the 2016 Olympics.
Yet Siasia has almost emulated Nigeria’s finest hour in football twice by reaching the Final and the Semi-Final with much weaker teams. I think we should celebrate our own. His football philosophy reminds me of the Super Eagles as we knew them in the 80s and the 90s – an attacking team with strong athletic players that uses the wings albeit still susceptible to the malaise of the momentary lack of concentration at critical moments. His failures during his two brief stints as national team manager were not helped at all (no excuses) by the fact that he was called upon on both occasion to rescue a sinking ship – when he took over from Austin Eguavon after Nigeria had already lost a match in the qualifying series and also when he took over from Sunday Oliseh when we were already at the disadvantage of being behind Egypt.
If Siasia were a foreigner, we would have been praising him. We would have tried to employ him. Remember Paul Le Guen;s rejection of our appointment as National Team Manager? Can we compare his achievements on the international stage to Siasia’s? Yet the NFF have unfortunately gone ahead to employ another foreigner and would reportedly be paying him 18 million Naira a month- a far cry from the 5 million Naira being paid to Oliseh, the previous coach. How come they are now able to raise N18 million for a foreigner when they are still reportedly owing Siasia, Oliseh, Eguavoen and the late Stephen Keshi. Some claimed that the foreign coaches were better and that we were able win the Nations cup in 1994 and the Olympic gold in 1996 because we had the until Keshi silenced them forever in 2013 by winning the Nations cup and Siasia almost silenced them in 2008 and 2016 with much less star-studded teams. You can maybe explain away Roberto Di Matteo’s winning of the Champions league with Chelsea but how do you explain away the repeated measure of success by an individual over time?
Let us celebrate our own. Let us groom our own. Let us believe in them. Let us invest in them. For them the assignment is not just another job but a matter of national honour. Siasia and other coaches that have proved themselves should be sent on refresher courses and groomed for further national assignments. According to the Yoruba adage, teni teni, t’akisa t’aatan (as the rag belongs to the refuse dump so does whatever belongs to you should be yours. This is the time for us to look inwards as a nation and let it be “Home-grown” in all our spheres of activities.
Christianity EtcRe: How Is Jesus' Death A Sacrifice If He Rose From The Dead ? by AjaoMT2:
sammhi:
your words.." raise you up as a super rat"; no sir God did not raise Jesus up a man ..but as a life giving Spirit ....He is no longer a man in heaven.
refer your illustration.. , your dad wont raise you up a Rat but as Human ...but the rat death will be focal point.
flesh and blood can not inherit Gods Kingdom.
Jesus came as man , died as man but raised as a spirit..same form he was before he came ...
Angels appear to Human in visible form but it does not mean that that body they put on is flesh and blood ...so too Jesus raised up body is his original form not the human aspect
refer your illustration,,, your dad wont raise you up as Rat but as human but to prove thAT THE RAT KILLED HAS RISEN, YOU CAN SHOW THE RAT BODY AGAIN
You didn't get my point, Sir. Remember I said a Super-Rat with a new body. Jesus is indeed now a quickening Spirit according to 1 Cor. 15. Indisputable. But he is also a man with a glorified body. Not the kind of body we have now or he had before but the kind we would be clothed with 2 Cor. 5. The kind that passes through walls as Jesus did when he was resurrected. A body with a spiritual materiality that can assume ("congeal" into) a new human form. That is what you and I are waiting for according to 2 Cor. 5:1-4. I can send you further scriptures to prove this if you want me to.
Christianity EtcRe: How Is Jesus' Death A Sacrifice If He Rose From The Dead ? by AjaoMT2: 8:58pm On Mar 28, 2016
It is a big mistake to think that nothing was lost because Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus came to earth as a man. He was not initially one(Jn.1:1-5, 14) and he was not an angel (Heb. 1:4-14) and so the question is what was he , if not God?
Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

As an analogy, try to imagine your earthly father as having special powers. Imagine that he created rats. Imagine the rats infected by a virus. Imagine that you are the one who was sent to save the rats. For this, you have to cease to be a human being and become a rat (uninfected) as you need to be one of them to communicate with them and to be a sacrifice for their sin. You have to give up your humanity and all your special powers you had like your dad. The infected rats would kill and devour you and you would lose your life as a rat and not as a human being. Now your father raises you back as a super-rat with a different body with special powers but never again as a human being. The interesting thing now is that we have a MAN (heb. 8:24,25; Heb 8:1-2 ) in heaven representing you and I, a new kind of man- the God-Man. When you plant a seed (and the bible uses this analogy concerning Christ's death) doesn't the seed lose its life in the soil? The mere fact that the seed produces an harvest does not mean that it was not a sacrifice and nothing was lost. Moreover, the sacrifice was an atonement for sin and not just a losing something but I will stop here for now.

SportsFifa Under-20 World Cup: Mali Knocks Out Germany by AjaoMT2(op): 6:21pm On Jun 14, 2015
Tournament favourites Germany have been eliminated from the Fifa Under-20 World Cup after losing on penalties against quarter-final opponents Mali.

"We didn't lose the match because of the opponent, we lost it because of penalties," said Germany coach Frank Wormuth. "It's luck to win."

Mali won the shootout 4-3 after a 1-1 draw in Christchurch, New Zealand, and face Serbia in Wednesday's semi-final.

Senegal meet Brazil in the other last-four tie, also on Wednesday.

Julian Brandt had given Germany a first-half lead before Mali's Souleymane Coulibaly equalised after the break.

Hany Muklhtar missed a penalty when Wormuth's side were 1-0 up while Brandt and Niklas Stark failed to score in the shootout.

CareerRe: Is It Right For A Pastor Work In An Alcohol Manufacturing Company? by AjaoMT2: 6:16pm On Apr 23, 2015
This actually happened to me. I lost an employment opportunity at a beer manufacturing company several years ago because of my "beliefs". I however know better now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with alcohol just as there is absolutely nothing wrong with(for example), coke. The issue has to do with drinking in moderation. Whoever knows he can't control himself should avoid it at all cost before it becomes a serious addiction. If a man drinks from time to time (mind you, I don't drink because I don't like it), what is wrong with that? What harm will it do to his body? When you take more than you should it harms your body and shames you. But taking too much of any substance does the same. Coke, salt, pepper etc. Anybody aspiring to work in an alcohol producing company or tobacco company should realize this and take the job. People are most of the time hypocrites in such cases. A person addicted to sex will look down on an alcoholic because his own addiction is not as embarrassing or not shameful. An addiction is an addiction. Most of the time, they harm or destroy us and others physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially. There is nothing wrong with alcohol or working in a place where it is produced. It is all about MODERATION on the part of people.

I think the Igbos need to do some soul searching. Could it be that they are the architect of their own "misfortunes" ? While even the Yorubas, whom the Igbos believe are unreliable, appear to be more objective of recent while the Igbos attitude appear to be questionable. The same South-West that voted GEJ in the last election refused to vote for him this time around. Why? Because they believe that GEJ did not meet their expectation. The voting was not on tribal lines. Do you know that if Jega should contest against Akala for the presidency right now that the Yorubas would vote for Jega and would not use sentiments like "Akala is our son." I believe the SE and SS as well as many of the Igbos in Lagos voted mainly on such sentiments (as well as the news that Mr Presido was in Lagos a week before the elections giving out dollars) and we really need to move on now as a nation. we should not allow the elites to use tribal and religious sentiments to blind us during elections while they continue to rob us blind. The Igbos need to change and be more objective.

Even if other constraints had come up by the 10 am he mentioned, he or somebody else should have come up by 10 to tell us about any postponement instead of keeping us waiting. We still have a long way to go as a nation if people of his calibre cannot keep their words.

eagleeyez:
I believe most of you will understand what I mean

Its really saddening when you see ladies over the age of 30 still single. I don't feel its about character as I have seen many ladies with terrible characters get married.

Most these ladies are accomplished. Even with the programmes for singles in churches, stilll no show. The muslims also have programmes where they assist singles in getting married, still no show.

Please, don't state that they want rich men as we all know what is going on now,our women are practically becoming bread winners. Some earn higher than their husbands

These single ladies don't mind getting married to men who are of a lower earning capacity.

What is then the problem?!?
Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but it is this kind of thinking that has gotten many ladies in trouble and still keeps getting them in trouble. Somebody close to me lost her life recently because she felt she was getting old and made a wrong choice of which she was strongly warned not to. I have noticed that our women, given a choice between not getting married and living a rich and fulfilling life and getting married and suffer and even die there will prefer the latter because of the pressure our society put on them to marry at all cost. Why are we not talking about 30+ unmarried guys? Why are we not concentrating on these ladies achieving personal fulfillment first? Many ladies because of societal pressure would get married to the wrong person just for the sake of being married. We normally groom our girls for marriage first and in so doing make them sell out their own personal desires and aspiration. We directly or indirectly encourage them to settle for anything in the choice of their career since "they will eventually end up in a man's house. We treat them like second class citizens and brainwash them right from birth that their entire life purpose is for marriage. Yet marriage is not an end but a means to an end. It is a journey that two people have decided to undertake as a team as equals with the man as a functional leader. It is a relationship based on synergy, i.e., the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. For such to happen, we need to move from dependence as children and teenagers into independence before we enter into interdependence(relationships). Only a truly independent person should enter into interdependent relationships of which marriage is one. Let us encourage our girls (I am raising up my daughter that way and I am a man) to develop themselves to the highest level first and continue to enjoy their lives until the person they believe is right for them comes.

Buharism showed me that Christianity is not a mere religion but sincere love for human beings, regardless of the faith they profess. It showed me that truth and justice are the foundation on which God's throne was founded. It showed me that a person need not profess Christ to be used by him to better society. It showed me that God could still replay the story of Cyrus in rebuilding a fallen nation of Israel in our present political history. Despite my conversion to Buharism, I remain a Christian. But a Christian with a clearer grasp of the person of Jesus Christ. I am now a Christian that is not bound by mere religious sentiments or parochial mindsets. This is what I believe a lot of Christians become when they come to know and support the candidacy of Gen. Buhari

it is easy for the school owners to proffer the use of hand sanitizers as solution. Many private schools might probably carry this out. What about the public schools? Do they think that they will be that painstaking with the measures they have proffered? In one of the popular boarding schools in Nigeria last term, only one student brought "apolo" to school. Almost all the students were infected including the head of the school, a Colonel. That was just "apolo." Do they think we have the resources, patience and knowledge to manage ebola right now? Many students have gone to different parts of the country for their holidays. Don't we think that they can be easy vectors of the disease should school resume now?

Luis Suarez has been sent home from Brazil - and now his billboard image has been removed as well.

One insult follows another, it would seem to the striker himself, but the advert bearing his face had become somewhat of a farce in Brazil.

Adidas have taken down the poster of the snarling striker after it turned into a bit of a Copacabana tourist attraction post-bite saga.

With teeth bared and a ferocious expression, visitors - including roving rent-a-quote Chris Kamara - were eager to pose with various parts of their anatomy apparently between his jaws.

mazaje: Stop spreading lies, chinese, indian , mayan and egyprian recorded history dates back to more than 3000BC, there were people living in china, india, and egypt for more than 10,000 years. . .What the hell are you saying?. . .Provide any historical document that show that there weren't people living in Egypt about 4300 years ago(time of the flood) or remain a liar. . .
No need to get abusive or unnecessarily aggressive. This is supposed to be a discussion. Why take things so personally? I showed quotes from a book and I gave you the title and the author's name. It is up to you to disprove them. Why not provide your own historical documents to disprove them.
This is from Wikipedia: Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of Northeastern Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt. Egyptian civilization coalesced around 3150 BC (according to conventional Egyptian chronology)[1] with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh.[2] The history of ancient Egypt occurred in a series of stable Kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods: the Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age.

Sarassin: The Mesopotamian "Epic of Gilgamesh" containing a flood story which the Genesis accounts closely follows is dated to around 2500BC. You can read up on that anywhere.

The most generous dates we have for the authorship of the Book of Genesis is around 1445BC. Actually many biblical scholars now consider Genesis to have been written no earlier than 5th century BC by "Yahwist" authors resident at the court of Solomon.
Kindly also check up on this link and read the 5th paragraph. I believe it throws more light on the issue. Thanks.

Sarassin: I think you missed the boat...no pun intended. Most of the other traditions about the great flood precedes biblical accounts in most cases by a millennium.
Also, the mere fact that precede the Bible does not make the biblical account wrong.

“Take a look at Sumeria. The appearance around 3000 B.C. of Sumerian civilization was likewise sudden, unexpected and out of nowhere.
“H. Frankfort (Tell Uqair) called it ‘astonishing.’ Pierre Amiet (Elam) termed it ‘extraordinary.’ A. Parrot (Sumer) described it as ‘a flame which blazed up so suddenly.’ Leo Oppenheim (Ancient Mesopotamia) stressed ‘the astonishingly short perio the civilization had arisen. Joseph Campbell (The Masks of God) summed it up this way: ‘With stunning abruptness...there appears in this little Sumerian mud garden...the whole cultural syndrome that has since constituted the germinal unit of all the high civilizations of the world.’”
“But I’ve also been examining the evidence unearthed in Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro,” Ed stated. “They were the key centers of the Indus Valley civilization. These also appear to have suddenly sprung up with no clearcut traces of having evolved from primitive beginnings. Your third coincidence.”
“You see, the Maya of Central America are in it, too. The Mayan calendar goes back to approximately the same time (c. 3000 B.C.). And sure enough, at the outset of Mayan culture, their script was already perfect.”
“Indeed there are. The megalith builders of northwest Europe appeared at precisely the same time. The achievements they demonstrated were identical, that is, the ‘simultaneous discovery of Pythagorean triangles, a precise calendar, a true compass-bearing for north, knowledge of the movement of celestial bodies (possibly including knowledge that the world was round) and a minutely accurate system of measurement.’
