this nairaland na wa. once someone says amything that is unpopular, it brings on personal attacts. its as if most people just want everybody to see only one point of view. no matter how intelligent a discenting arguement is, at best it is ignored, at worse the writer is thoroughly insulted. God help us form our own opinion based on practicalities and not just on what the press feed us |
y'all forgot to add Ajiri Avae clothing. Original. coming soon to DSTV. watch out for her designs |
i'm really sorry to rain on everyone's PDP hatefest, i truly am (especially since i'm not exactly a fan) but i think it will be evil not to point out a few things i've noticed. the front page of The Punch Newapaper of the 27th of April has a picture of a scuffle, invoving a man and a woman. its a pity that i have been unable to upload the picture but i trust that i am among honest people. the picture is captioned "Punch photojournalist, Mr Segun Bakare (arrowed) being assaulted and his camra seized by suspected members of the People's Democratic Party" i would appreciate it if y'all will look for monday's punch and take a close, OPEN MINDED look at the picture. page 68 of the same paper has a picture captioned " Punch photojournalist, Mr Segun Bakare, being beaten by suspected members of the People's Democratic Party" ( notice that the language used in the caption is such that if the PDP decides to sue, they will have a weak case because the people were described as "suspected PDP" meaning that the Punch is not saying categorically, however to the average person, the message has been passed, "it was PDP" ![]() like i said, i hate to rain on our PDP hatefest but i think i should bring this to the notice of the handful of people who are willing to keep an open mind. a close examination of the said picture looks more like a man and a woman struggling and two other men and two women trying to separate them. the picture has the Mr segun, wearing a blue and white stripped polo shirt and dark blue jeans in a struggle with a woman wearing a green and blue ankara dress. we can't see the man on his left on the front page. we however see a man in a white polo shirt and blue jeans with his arms stretched out OBVIOUSLY trying to separate them, a lady in a brown t-shirt and light blue doing the same. there is also a woman in green, blue and orange ankara stretching her hands and from her body language, seeming to be asking them to be reasonable. my question then is, how come the claim is that he is being beaten up? by whom? the woman he is struggling with? about a week ago in the same Punch Newspaper, i came across an advert sponsored by the AC where they showed pictures of people with various forms of injuries with claims that they were beaten up by PDP thugs during the 2007 elections. the obvious question was 'what is the proof. how do we know that they weren't pictures of people in hospital, or even armed robbery suspects'. also how come there are only pictures of PDP thugs. are intelligent people to believe that the AC has no thugs. the reason why i bring all this up is that it seems to me that the press, who is supposed to be an impartial, is obviously not. the press is deliberately giving a one sided story. it is easy to accept hook, line and sinker what the press feed us, but lets not forget to stop after every story and ask questions. for example, a couple of months ago, there was a story about a journalist being assaulted by the Bayelsa State Governor's security for taking pictures of the man. the question that i expect a reasonably man to ask is, 'was the picture taken, that of the Governor doing something immoral or illegal'. from what i know of the story, the answer is no. so what then would make the security officials beat him up. lets not pretend that a mad man will be put to protect a Governor. the men that secure a Governor are well trained, at least mid-ranking, officers. we are not talking about constables here. so then, what could actually have transpired. what did the journalist do. i'm not saying that it was right to beat him up for what ever reason. i'm saying let them not make it appear that the man was beaten up for taking a picture. the worse that would happen if that was the case, would have been that he would have been shoved or even pushed out of the way. i just hope its not just a case of a journalist using his position as an influencer of public opinion to exact revenge. the moral is this long story is simple, the press is not impartial. there are to many interests involved to have an impartial press.it is left for us not to allow ourselves be caught up in anybody's agenda, whether the PDP or even the AC. every story that we are told should be scrutinized from at least two points of view. |
@ poster, you spoke my mind in your first post. its good to know at least someone else sees my point of view. |
my dear racheal, you made a big mistake in coming to a public forum like this with this kind of problem. talk to the elders in your family. they are in the best position to help you if you are serious. just remember that what you want to involve yourself in may have reparcautions( at least that's what we've been told since we were kids) so think well before you involve yourself in such things. like i said if you are serious, i'm sure someone in your extended family or village can help. let us know if it works as i always wonder if such things actually work. |
i've watched the 'Gospel of Judas' on history a few times and heard about the customes of that time and i'm convinced that he was a hero.his depiction as a villian i think is just a bias. |
@server34. if i came across as taking it personal, its because i'm aware that you are 'trying to explain' ie, giving excuses for an industry that used to employ you. and for men and women you used to work with. my dear, when an establishment is dealing with people's money, there should be a high level of care taken to ensure that very silly and unneccesary mistakes are not made. if a cashier were to replace one N1000 notes with a N100 note in one hundred bundles or even ten bundles, do you know how much he has made for himself or herself? (and don't tell me that it was brought in like that because tellers who collect money will usually take the money out of the pack and examine the notes under flourecent light to ascertain their authenticity). in this day and age of digital tech how many people still manually count their money at the counter after the casheir has handed it to them. some of these 'mistakes' are so dumb that if they are really mistakes, the supervising officer of any staff that makes them should be quarried, because he or she should have recognised he had a fool working under him. |
@ server34, my dear you are part of the corrupt system, and you are obviously an inteligent fellow so the damage control you are doing is only expected. i have good friends who work in banks and i know about the level of corruption that even 'civilians' can't even begin to imagine. why do i pay legal fees to a company that has a legal department that they pay salaries to at the every month. what do they have the job for. to gist in the office? why should i pay any more than N500 to confirm my signature. does it involve anything more than going through files or the computer system to see what the customer's signature is and then writing a letter which is signed by a bank officcial. why would any bank (Diamond) charge ten thousand for that. we need to talk more about stuff like this so we know the banks to avoid and the ones with the best deals. i was going to open a current account with BankPHB but the customer service guy in their Akoka branch was so rude (because i look young and was in jeans and a t-shirt, he thought i was a Unilag student) that i walked out and took my business elsewhere. why will a bank still charge you if their staff was the reason your cheque bounced. is that not enough reason to return the money you were charged? if it was America, that move would affect your credit score. you should be compensated for that mistake, not charged. my dear, as far as y'all are concerned, you hold all the cards and your customers can't do sh*t about it so now we need to bring it out in the open and blacklist any bank that is taking advantage of its customers. |
my bank, which means the top of something, charged me 3,500 four months after i opened my account for 'search'. when i asked the operations manager why, she told me it was to pay the lawyer who went to CAC in Abuja to make sure my company is really registered. funny though, because every bank has a legal department and that is what the lawyers there are paid a salary to do. if i'm paying for the search, then why in heaven's name do you pay someone a salary to work in the department. |
sweetheart, go to Game at The Palms Shopping Mall but if you know Lagos Island very well, go to Oke Arin market. walk from Oke Arin towards Idumota. just before you get to the part where they sell plastic wares wholesale is a little corner where they sell pots pans and other cooking utensils. goodluck finding it |
Ogaga4Luv:sweetheart, i'm sure i speak for most women here when i say that any man who is uncomfortable with the fact that a woman is doing it for herself and needs to be dating a broke ass woman to feel good about himself can walk the other way. men who shy away from women because they are successful have issues they need to deal with. i'm still on the side of poor girls but not on the side of guys who date them because of their low self esteem. |
Mim-kwase:that's exactly what a group of my long time, guy friends said to me last night when i brought up this topic. they believe it's only an immature or irresponsible man that has a problem with providing for his woman (their words, not mine- so nobody should start wilding out on me, ok) |
@ phemzy, you still don't see the other side, do you. if she complains about money, then it means she places value on it. when a man can't provide it, he is not the man for her, simply because there is a difference in values. you don't have the right to say that her values are less valuable because they are different from yours. if a man finds that he is in that situation,he should see it as a lack of compatability. simple. then get to stepping. either that or live with your decision to stay. p.s lets not forget that the fact that a woman doesn't have a skill doesn't mean she's useless. a wife can also be useful by being the one who gives him the push towards his greatness. some women are like their husband's chief strategist and you don't need to have an education or skill to contrbute that. also, being a home maker is contribution to the family. focusing all your attention on kids is hard. i've tried that, its exhausting. |
how come it's ok for a man to want beauty and brains, a woman with connections, and the ability to help you expand your business and yet a woman who wants a man who can pay her bills is considered a ho. that's hypocracy. why is one ok and the other wrong. are they not based on the same basic ideology of a marriage being for some level of profit. where does love come into all these requirements or are we saying that we don't know any guy who really, really likes a woman who has proven her love and loyalty to him but walks away because she comes from a poor home. y'all can pretend all you want but i know a few. seanT21 you talked about these poor women just being runs like you don't know any intelligent, ambitious, progressive women who end up being runs. who is a 'runs' anyway. is it not any woman who is not a guys main chic. how many guys date 2 or three 'nice girls' at ones. what does that make the others who are not 'wifey'. or are you saying that men only treat poor women badly. let me remind you about Chris Brown and Rihanna. did Barbara Walters, one of Americas most powerful women on tv, not write in her book about being a 'runs'. besides the mentality of these women mean most of them are fine with laying on their backs as long as the men are paying bills. they are not trying to be marrying you. they are more concerned about making sure that their families break the chain of poverty. didn't you get the memo, "aint nothing going on but the rent". after they have stepped up, then they can think about marrying. also why the assumption that only dumb women are looking for game. it takes an incredible level of intelligence to bag a rich man. don't you know rich men are the most suspectious. they tend to have trust issues. in the same way intelligent, good, loving women get dissappointed in relationships, poor, 'connectionless' women too get dissapointed. at least the 'runs walks away with money in the bank. like i said before, gold diggers can be found among middle class, working women. let's not talk like poor women have a monopoly on it. if men hate the fact that these woman are after bigger, better things, then stop leave them the hell alone. don't go after them and then turn bitter when they knock you. its not personal, its just business. the way you need a woman with beauty and brains on your arms is the way they need a man to get them out of poverty. you are no better than them. they don't hate on you because you discriminate against them for not being useful to your ambitions, why hate on them for when you are not useful to theirs? they are not looking for a guy who wants to sleep with them but can't even help out with the bills. they are looking for a real man who knows that its his job to provide for his woman, not someone who is looking to split the bill and then wants her to be submissive on top of it. i thank God that i'm from good family pedegree and that we can afford stuff that the average home can't but i'm not going to knock some chic because she's trying to get out of a bad situation in her own way. these women provide a service for which they choose to be compensated. |
this sh*t is hillarious. are y'all for real. what's this, whining time. y'all need to stop. i've always said that a beautiful woman doesn't need character. why should she? everyman wants her. then you expect her to be ambitious? you guys are a trip. independence is for ugly women, women who have no choice. you know plain, colourless women. the type that y'all never even notice. you say that these women don't have any ambition. i beg to differ. they are the most ambitious there is. do you know how hard it is to 'arrange' a husband. the commitment involved. the patience. the hit song about 'runs feeling like a star' was done by a bitter young man who obviously has had his fair share of rejection at clubs by women who he felt he had a right to but whom had their eyes on bigger, better things. nothing kills a man's ego more than being rejected by a woman he feels should be easy for him. and do you know how i know this. the venom. if these woman are so unimportant, why the song. why the whining. any man who finds himself dating or trying to date these women should not complain. they are interesting aren't they? that quality that makes a woman sexy. why then should they not use what they have to their advantage. seriously. i'm not being sarcastic now. why can't they. i've never heard of a man who turned down an opportuntity to get ahead if what was required was sex. and don't even decieve yourselves that gold diggers only comprise of the obvious women. you'll be suprised how many lawyers, doctors, bank workers, multinational workers are on the prowl for game. or how many so called 'omo mummies' are schooled by their mothers on how to bag that rich man in the most subtle ways. your father might own a mansion in Ogudu but is he as rich as a Folawiyo or a Dangote or a Muri-Okunola? lets not think that gold digging is restricted to poor girls. its even easier for you to bag a rich man if you at least have something to bring to the table. if guys regularly drop 20-50k when you don't have a car, can you imagine what they will drop when you have a car, a flat in Ikoyi and work in Zenith bank. no man in his right mind will even consider giving you less than 1 million. so lets not act like these women are neccesarily bad. they are just going for the life that they want, just like the rest of us. |
green and yellow |
the only thing i'll like to add to this is that, when ribadu was going after people and they went to court to get an injunction to have the proceedings against them stayed and the injunction was infact granted, ribadu put the law into his own hands and still proceeded. now he wants the same judicial system on his side. this is a lesson in, be careful the bridges you burn. |
how many times have you been driving down the streets of lagos, minding your own business when you come face to face with a group of "officers of the law". how many times have you, coming upon such a situation, felt the bile come up from your stomach because you know these people are only looking for people to extort money from. how many of those times have you just not been in the mood for that brand of nonsense. on days like that, anybody that stands in front of your car does it at his or her own peril. my people, lets call a spade a spade. these police people went to police college. they have been taught how to identify criminals. (believe it or not, The Nigeria Police is one of the best trained in the world. argueably the best in Africa.) a woman driving alone in broad daylight can hardly be suspected of being a criminal. if she was a suspected criminal, believe me, they would not be trying to catch her in that manner, if in other countries police personel are treated with some degree of respect, its because they don't cheapen themselves by turning into toll collectors. if thier pay is so bad then they should strike. i'm sure Nigerians will back them up. if they are being owed thier salaries, they should petition whoever is in charge both with the efcc and with the house of reps. or better still, the press. those people are always looking for a story to overflog to sell thier newspapers. besides, has mike okiro not said on several occasions that the police should dismantle all checkpoint. does it not then amount to insubordination, and a disregard for his authority that they are still prowling the streets seeking whom to destroy? is mike okiro no longer in charge? if he has no control over them, then he has no business being the inspector general. |
thanks tpia. i think it has to do with the weather. like i said, everybody i asked experiences the same symptoms these days. |
hello everyone. please humour me, i'm just trying to see if there is a trend here. how many of you have noticed that a few minutes after drinking water you feel thirsty, and then you drink again, and then you feel thirsty. on and on it goes until you feel like you will burst from so much water, and yet you are still thirsty. p.s. everyone i have asked is going through the same thing. please i will like feedback on this. |
this is why there is so much religious intolerance. what is the big deal that a Fashola went for holy ghost night. the man was probably invited by the G.O and honoured it. do we prefer leaders who will refuse to honour other people's religion. i'm a christian woman but i go to mosques when ever i'm invited for weddings or special programs by my muslim friends, does that make me less christian? let's get it together people and stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. the man went to church, good for him. it just means he is not petty about religion. if he doesn't have a problem with it why should anybody else. |
i keep my sunglasses, hand sanitiser, card holder, phone, makeup, hair brush, comb, wallet, hand cream, powder, jotter, pen, measuring tape, small pack of tissues. |
thegame, whether we like it or not, peugots are assembled in nigeria. hondas and toyotas are not. at least that way, most of the money will remain in the nigerian economy, unlike if it was a wholely foriegn brand. |
sky blue, i guess we are both approaching this issue from two very different points of observation. while you are looking at the allegations in isolation, i am relating it to a much larger political picture. as for your need for a press conference held by bankole to tell us if keyamo is correct in his accusations, maybe the reason why i don't seem to share your enthusiasm is that the house committee on media and public affairs has given us the side of the house leadership, pan has given us their side and the matter was under investigation by the ethics and privileges committee even before keyamo became aware of it. before you say that it is bankole who needs to address us and not the committee, let me remind you that as much as the whole thing has been sensationalised by personalising the matter, it is actually an allegation against the house leadership and its following due process. if the house was already investigating the matter, why then did keyamo sensationalise things if his intentions were good. while you may believe that his intentions do not matter, i strongly disagree. it makes all the difference. you say you don't understand how this issue is connected to the report on the probe. let me explain it this way. when the house leadership decided that it was going to start to take its oversight functions seriously, and look into how money allocated to the differrent organisations that make up "government" was spent, let me assure you that, hardly anybody in that system was happy about it. there was a time in my life, between 1999- 2004 when i frequented abuja and hung out with civil servants. if you don't have direct contact with them in their official capacity, then you have no idea the corruption that goes on in our civil service. forget what you hear, i got to see it. so let me assure you that by questioning how moneys were spent, many toes (interests) were stepped on. to add salt to injury, these small boys (the house) went so far as to insist on finding out where all the money spent on the power sector went. can you imagine all the people that will be fingered in the report. i don't want to believe you are naive enough to think that the interests involve will stand back and watch while they are publicly shamed. even if nobody gets arrested and no money is returned, the fact that the report is allowed to come out will forever change the way government contracts are handled. how many of these interests do you think can afford to let that happen. the house has been under pressure not to come out with its report. the first casualty was elumelu who was accused of being bribed. that was done with the intent of discrediting him, the committee and therefore the report. when he was cleared of the charges, there were threats of law suits. obviously that did not work so now they are going after the main guy, bankole. with him out of the way and their man in, end of discussion. before you dismiss this as being irrelevant to whether the report comes out or not, remember certain key factors. this is politics. most (if not all) of the people involved, both for and against, are members of the same political party. at times like this there will be a lot of lobbying by the different interests to infleunce which way the matter goes. every member of both the committee and the house has a political carear to protect. so my dear, its not an open and shut matter. this is a monumental matter and a controversy like this is designed to check mate the house. |
my brother, may you live long. may your name remain on this earth long after you are gone. like i said in my second post on this topic, when a man with a reputation as a thief runs into the market shouting "the palace is on fire", wise men will first ask, "what can this man's intentions be". the answer most probably is that he is just trying to attract attention away, so that he can carry out his evil acts. unfortunately, most of the villagers will suffer the loss of stolen goods. like i said, i will not be decieved. they should bring out the report of the committee. enough of this drama. let us know who the thieves are. even if you don't arrest them, give us their names. if our representatives have gone as far as to investgate, then the least we deserve is to know the result. power is too key a sector in our economy for us to allow this madness. the integrity group has supporters out here. there are those of us that stand with them. elumelu, we are praying for you. bankole, the son of alani, make us proud. bring out their names. do not forget us in the niger delta. explain to us how this was allowed to happen. so many trillions. how many zeros? where are all the men who have always told us that they are on the side of the common man. insist on our behalf that the report comes out. abi, were all your sweet sounding words just rhetorics? all you our freedom fighters. isn't it hypocritical that none of our elders in the niger delta is insisting on the probe. those of you that set out to manipulate us for your personal agenda, and in so doing, sell our birthright by covering up for people who have run down our economy, putting us in pepetual darkness, repent. repent. repent. |

there is a fine jewelry store in sivlerbird. its in the floor directly under the cinema. there is also another one at the palms. its in the corner opposite polo, the watch store. good luck. |
the best designer, by my estimation,is ajiri avae who makes the loveliest formal and casual ankara and/ or linen beaded skirts and dresses. next is ellie saab, who makes the most luxurious, stunning, feminine dresses ever. third is the one and only, dior by john galliano. the ss 2008 collection was just breath taking. |
i use st ives collagen and elastine cream because, once a woman has crossed the 30 year mark, she needs that extra boost for her skin. |
i think its important for a woman, especially if she's attracted to the guy, to look extremely feminine on a first date. remind him that you are a woman. that's the fastest way to get him to feel those manly feelings towards you. because i was a tomboy earlier in my life, i made the mistake of projecting a very low maintainance vibe. you know, jeans, t-shirt, flats, hair up in a pony tail, no makeup. now i know a woman should wear a dress, high heels and have grooming exactly right. men appreciate the effort. even the ones who like their women looking natural. believe me, a man wants a woman to look like a woman, except he has gay tendencies. i'm not saying wear all the makeup in the world and tallons for nail, that will just make you look like a drag queen. just make the effort to look like a woman should. |
in the punch newspaper of november 3 (monday) on page 11, i read of how note books and 17 transformers donated by bankole were rejected by his local government. when i read it, i knew that its implications were ver, very deep but i didn't want to be seen as a conspiracy theorist so i didn't mention it here. as somebody who has occasionally attended ward meetings of the different political parties in my community since 1998, in order to have a better understanding of grassroot politics, i can assure you that at the ward level, they are just plain hungry. all they do at that level is leach off their leaders. believe me, when transformers (especially) are rejected, its deep. it was obviously an order from above. from my understanding of ogun state politics, i knew that this was the mastermind of gov. gbenga daniels. maybe with the support of obasanjo. MAYBE. when i mentioned the transformer issue to a friend, he too was convinced that it was a key element in house of reps saga but i still didn't want to seem like i was making a big deal out of nothing. from my second post, i have tried to make you guys understand that this matter is a lot deeper than we realise. i have repeatedly said that keyamo is working in concert with individuals who are trying to remove bankole in order to install somebody else and individuals trying to ensure that nigerians do not get the report of the elumelu led power probe nor get to the bottom of the niger delta allocations worth trillions of dollars. i know that there are still some of you who have judged the bankole guy guilty and will continue to do so no matter what. that is life. there will always be doubters in this world. did thomas not doubt. however, i have lived long enough to know that this life is deep. kayode amusan has been trying to become speaker from the begining of the 2007-2011 legislative term. to be honest, he was my main suspect as the instigator, along the lines of individuals trying to install a puppet theory, but i didn't feel the need to express that opinion because i felt it would be jumping the gun. now i know that i was right. talking about the character that is kayode amusan is beyond the scope of this discussion but let me assure you that his being tied into this matter as one of the masterminds is an understatement. he is the main tool being used by those that are determined to suppress the power probe report. its like a game of chess. keyamo was the pawn. he made the first move by going to the press with allegations. the knight's (amusan) role is to declare war and fight, with the intent of being crowned bishop later in the game. what is still up in the air are the identities of the king and queen (those who are indicted by this controversial report). my fellow nigerians, at this point in time, i'm done being decieved. as far as i'm concerned, if the government is really fighting corruption, then the sss needs to pick up keyamo for interogation. i'm tired of innocent people being harrased when the likes of keyamo are still on the streets. if nothing else, he needs to explain how he got the documents that he used to stir up this controversy in the first place. who gave it to him. forgery or not, persons in the house are behind him. those persons are working to protect the interest of the enemies of nigeria who were supposed to provide us with light. those of you that choose to continue to allow yourselves to be distracted can be my guest. there is too much at stake for me to fall into that group. the house needs to bring out that report. also, they need to start their investigations on what happened to the trillions of dollars that has gone into the niger delta. those of you that believe that probes don't solve anything, let me assure you that we are slowly but surely getting to a point of accountability thanks to these probes. if not, then why are they so hell bent on stopping the report from coming out. if it didn't mean anything, why bother. can you imagine the time, effort and funds spent on creating and keeping this controversy going. also let me appeal to well meaning nigerians to pray for the members of the integrity group so that the plans of these enemies of nigeria fails. i can only imagine the pressure they are all under to suppress the report. if these enemies of nigeria can go as far as to go after bankole in this manner, can you imagine how they would have been pressurizing the others. God bless the federal republic of Nigeria. |

.the women are not like men and they really deserve satisfaction and get what they needed.
