Obi denies plotting to defect to PDP

Amid growing speculation of a possible defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance for to Peoples Democratic Party, Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Tuesday pledged loyalty to APGA.

Obi’s romantic relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan in recent times, particularly during the fuel subsidy removal crisis, has sent tongues wagging that his defection to the PDP was a matter of time.

Also, some of the opposition parties in the state have not ceased criticising the governor for allegedly abandoning state matters for regular meetings in Aso Rock.

But Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, told our correspondent on Tuesday that Obi had no intention to join the PDP.

He said the governor’s support for Jonathan had no political motives.

He said, “It is a patriotic duty that he has to perform for Nigeria, which is above partisan or political loyalty.

“One thing I want to clear is that he (Obi) is not working with the PDP. He is working with the President. It is just by accident that the President is of the PDP. Were that President belonging to another party, he still would have worked for him.

“He is working with the President. If they are angry that he is working for the President of Nigeria, is it the President of Benin Republic that he should be working for?

“He has said it repeatedly that he has no plans to join the PDP.”

Obi is not only an Honorary Special Adviser to Joanthan on Finance, he is also an active member of the President’s Economic Team. He had during the period of the crisis arising from the withdrawal of subsidy on petrol spent all his time in Abuja with Jonathan until the crisis was resolved.

A leader of the Hope Democratic Party in Anambra, Mr. Benjamin Okoye, urged the governor to spend more time in the state to tackle the problems facing the state.

Okoye said, “He should stop running to Abuja to salvage another man’s house, when his own house is on fire. We have not conducted the local government election here, doctors are on strike, the water corporation is not working and the minimum wage has not been settled here.

“Why does he find it easy to be in Aso Rock where he was not elected to work? Let him sit down here and tackle the problems of infrastructure and low morale among the people.”

Okoye said if the governor really had the interest of Anambra State in mind, then he should have long used his Abuja connections to attract projects like the Second Niger Bridge, completion of the Onitsha – Enugu expressway reconstruction and effective tackling of the ravaging erosion in all parts of the state.

Those who have frowned on the governor’s shuttles to Abuja have said that considering that the governor’s second and final tenure will soon end, Abuja is the next place he wants to go. They have argued that with the limited sphere of influence of APGA, PDP with its control of the centre is the most likely party that Obi would want to use in actualizing his political ascendancy.

The problem I have with Awolowo is the dancing round issues to avoid a direct and HONEST answer. The 20 pounds, starvation and property seizure he sounded like he was making it up as he went. On the issue of starvation another of Awolowo's tactics of leading people a merry go round. I see he conveniently left out the fact that the Nigerian Air Force ( which was then 100% staffed with Egyptian and Russian pilots ) will most often TARGET civilian areas in particular farms when either a bombing raid was too dangerous or they could not careless. So if Awolowo was a sincere man this is something he should have mentioned. No one is doubting there were some Biafran units who seized food but what many refuse to heed or are not told is that some soldiers also died of starvation. I suppose during a war there are no rules and then you can magnify the atrocities when it concerns Nigeria if the present situation is anything to go by then anything goes. cool
PoliticsRe: Igboman, Did You Come To Bauchi With Any Land? by ak47mann(m): 12:04am On Feb 01, 2012
Awo even in death almost managed to confuse me. What a pathetic liar. Did he block food supply Nigeria was making to Biafra or he blocked food being sent by foreign aid agencies via Nigerian soil? Did Nigeria ever sent Nigerian food into Biafra? Why the the claim that ''food we sent to Biafra was being taken by soldiers''?

Also, did Ojkwu actually stop food aid from landing into Biafra? Can anyone supply an evidence of an effective stoppage of food aid by Ojukwu? What is available in video (as far as I know) is a threat from Ojukwu that if food aid does not come in addition to money (to support the military) food aid would be stopped. No where is there any evidence of actually carying out that threat of food stoppage by Ojukwu. People have been peddling these lies and I think it is time to prove it. Apparently, the threat of food stoppage - if money did not come with food - was effective in keeping the war longer. Indeed, a foreign commentator - who presumably was a significant player at that time - in the video did imply that without those charities from abroad, the war would have been lost sooner by Biafra than it was. France responded with supply of arms, cool

North East + North West = Arewa Republic
North Central (Middle Belt) = Nigeria?
South West = Odua
South East = Biafra

Nigeria is an imaginary nation, until we wake up from the slumber, we will then realize that the country is really not one, we are left with a system which is not working and will never work, each ethnic group want to be the alpha and the omega of the country which is not possible. The country was actually not designed to last forever, the sooner you wake up from the dream the sooner you understand the true setup and re-structure or dis-integrate the country in order for each group to move its own people forward. Nigeria is the only African country presently that is still struggling with power. Have you ever wondered how many non-employed graduates we have in Arewa? Imagine if Arewa is an independent country, and as Sardauna always say "northerner first" so in no time, thousands of Arewians will be employed all over the private and public sector of the country. Banks will remain, communication companies will remain, we will still have our dignity, yet we are independent. Wake Up!!!
now you are talking cool cool cool
